  • This is an interesting take on the seldom-modded Subaru Outback. Travis not only lowered his, but also converted it to 100% RWD! Oh and BTW, he daily drives it!

I don’t know why he did this but I support it cool to be different and the Mustang Wheels set it off

Ole pony wheels. I got some old cragars I keep trying to convince my wife to throw on her black pearl 19 outback but she won't do it haha.
The new bolt patterns are Ford dodge Toyota etc.
The old outback here had to use spacer adapters or I woulda long done this to mine w some steeds rims or something

Or just cut the wire coming from the center diff and it will fully engage.

      really?

Hehe oh yeah. Ok first of all I'll explain how it works in the 4eat. 4 speed automatics. Probably 5 speed autos also.
The center diff is actually a hydraulic clutch, and it controls it with an electronically moved valve to control the fluid pressure. So it's not a simple on and off normally, it can vary just like a foot clutch depends how far up you let loose depends how much slippage you allow. But here's the deal. Like a foot clutch works in a stick shift, it uses the transmission line fluid pressure to RELEASE the clutch varying amounts.
The best way is to route the wire to 12v DIAL knob. You can then over ride the ecu and manually ALLOW it however much lock you want. From full fwd to full ECU control. BUT if you run the same signal wire from it to a toggle switch, you can ALSO turn the switch off, fully cutting signal and FULLY LOCKING the center differential into 4 wheel drive.
It helps off road. A lot. ESPECIALLY if you happen to have a limited slip rear.
I learned all this when my center diff control valve got grit in it and got stuck leaving it in almost 50/50 front to rear, causing it to drag a back tire when trying to turn super sharp on asphalt.
Anywho, I took the whole center diff off and could see how it worked. It's one wire, a hot wire. The solenoid is grounded out already on the metal assembly. Your ECU and all under the hood does the voltage control so depending on demands and such, it sends whatever to the wire into the solenoid which opens and closes a little a lot some whatever... And let's it constantly control center diff clutch grabbiness.
Yeah a huge mod off roading was just... Running a toggle switch between em. And writing 4wd above the off position, and AWD on the On position. And then if u do a dial like I said, you can tweak it however as you drive. Or go full front wheel drive for ridiculous burnouts.

Um, no. That can work for automatica but that's not how it is for 5 and 6 speed cars. You have to take the diff out and weld it. I am the owner of the car so I would know if there was a wire or not when I took the trans apart. But I appreciate the input but unfortunately you can just cut a wire on the manual cars.
