A J30 was my first car! I found out first hand how good it was at drifting, on accident, on public roads, several times lol. I've always wanted to get another.
I can't wait for an actual box Volvo 245 to have drift tax applied to them. The 740/240 are so absurd that even though they're RWD, I don't think drift tax can really even happen.
As someone who daily drives an S10, this was really cool to see one make the list. I have recently gotten into Initial D and everything they say about the AE86 reminds me of my S10. Old, underpowered and not tuned for drifting. Plus mines an ‘86 so it just adds to the feeling as if they’re talking about me too 😅
Hahahahah My MAN!! My buddies and I used to do that in my first car I had. Was a total pile, 87 Nissan Sentra. Never had so much fun in my life before "drifting" -I use the term VERY loosely- in parking lots with the McDonalds or Wendy's trays under the back wheels, e brake cranked to the max..
Tsuiso Sim Drifting I was about to say something similar. The trays get shredded in like 2 minutes tops. Some kid my friends knew used too do crazy ass shit with trays. Spinning around Ike a mad man. Then I seen him one day behind the Safeway when we were skating and he made some things that he put his back wheels on with a couple shopping cart looking wheels on there and it was even better than the trays.they didn’t brake the one time I seen him using them .

Except the 944 is not cheap...the most expensive 944 you will buy is the cheapest one you buy. Not kidding. The parts aren't cheap, the maintenance requires a lot of disassembly, meaning a lot of stuff that can break on a 30yo car, and require a lot more work per mile. Especially the variocam DOHC versions. I love mine but they are not what people think they are going into them. Which just makes my first statement become even more true, as the cheap ones are the uncared for masses of porsches that people bought because they thought they were cheap.
I’m not kidding, I literally went gravel road drifting in my 02 Outback (the 4-door sedan of course) and eventually ended up destroying a chain link fence about 12 hours before this was posted. Fortunately in my state, 1 in every 10 cars at the junkyard is an early 2000’s Subaru Outback, so I replaced all the parts today for basically $80. As for drifting them, even the 4-speed autos can drift pretty well with the stock AWD setup (though life of the AWD system may or may not be reduced..) The 4-speed autos use hydraulic-actuated clutches to both ends to split power. It is a wierd sensation when they are in stock trim. If you yank the E-brake, the computer detects it and will momentarily disengage rear-wheel power as the wheels lock up, but the instant you release the brake, it diverts almost 100% of torque to the rear for a second or two, ripping the tires loose on the rear until they catch up to the front tire speed, while allowing the front to pull the car in whatever direction they are pointed. (The changing torque transfer can lead to severe, fence-busting overcorrection if you aren’t ready for it though) The earlier 2000’s manual trans AWD is actually less effective at this because it has a viscous lsd that can’t disengage and therefore impedes awd drifting. The more you know...
The thunder bird is actually a great car, my friend had the Super Coupe (super charged). It did manage to blow a head gasket though and has many oil leaks, but I blame that more on the prior maintenance of the vehicle.

NGL, I love when all these car youtube channels mention each other. The Straight Pipes once used "MO POWEH BAYBE" and i remember sitting there like that pointing Leonardo DiCaprio meme.
I love that Donut finally mentioned the w203 but they missed the opportunity to talk about the c55 which comes with an NA 5.4 V8 and a 5tronic super quick shifting and bullet proof transmission.
My father used to have one and I learned to drift on one of those 😂😂😂they are super comfy and slides sick if you flick it lil bit harder haha PLUS MERCEDESES HAVE EXTRA STEERING it’s not much but it helps deffo for learners - after it I bought my e46 so thanks to Benzi benz I learned how to drift haha
LOL That's kind of what went through my head too when you showed the Outback Legacy. Those suckers are impossible to slide (they tend to start sliding then quickly grab traction). That being said, this video may actually address a problem I have been having (that I recently learned, my AWD doesn't always seem to engage). I also agree, I love that car. I love mine, still had it for over 10 years, and hope at least 10 more
Seeing the s10 on this list is heart warming, still remember being an 18 year old ken block drifting mine with my older brother in his supercharged Nissan Xterra😂
But no need to weld the diff on the Mercury Cougar v8, it has limited slip diff, I can drift even on straight streets. Or the S10, well not sure about the S10, but I tried a GMC pickup and it had limited slip diffs and I accidentally kept drifting in the rain. Or the infinity, my friend always took his out to the parking lot to do donuts.
C230 is a fun car to drive. Very comfortable too. I drove the automatic version for 5 years. 1 thing I didn't like was that they have electrical issues pretty often.
The problem with drifting the C230 is that it has an electronic e-brake. Boooo. Plus, just finding a manual Mercedes is a chore. Manheim tonight lists thousands of them for sale at auction, but only 2 are sticks. The problem with drifting the Infiniti J30 is that motor can't handle sliding... the oiling fails which blows the motor. Same holds true for the Z32 (but not the Z31) 300ZX. Likewise, don't try to drift the MR2. Sadly, several of those cars can make and hold sick slides until after a few passes the motors all die from no oil. You'll also see that fate if you try to drift any Suburu other than the WRX (which is a pain because it is 4wd).

I can definitely attest to the outback. my freind had the outback sport package, welded center differential, and the front axle disengaged and it was damn fantastic. it got 2 misfires though, may it rest in peace.
Another free way to drift: On foot If you have a spacious hardwood floor, socks, and good coordination, you can drift while running. I learned how to, and it’s pretty fun, but tiring after a while
Wahoo! I got the 1993 Mercury Cougar v8 haha. I like it. I meet a lot of ford fans and thunderbird/cougar fans on the road. The limited slip diff does ok for stock-oem drifting. There been few times the rear-end was using the left lane and front end using the right lane even on a straight away street (no corners needed). There was a time plenty of these cars sold for $600 on craigslist and the only problem was the mass air flow sensor which you can clean that out with some cleaner/rust remover, but they became a rare now.... I think what happens, this happen to me, the --what is is called-- oil dip stick stem(?) that you put the oil dip stick in, it wasn't in the motor all the way so when you check the oil it will always read low, and so you keep putting oil in it and oil in it every few days and it will start burbling out the oil dip stick stem and out the air-intake-umm-oil-hose-from-the-engine and will clog up the mass air flow sensor and air filter and will cause the car to die out at red lights and stop signs, so I was always cleaning that mass air flow sensor. After a couple years, I was tinkering under the hood and I found out it was just that stem thing wasn't in all the way!!!!! Another issue. After some researching. I find out that they use some kind of plastic part on the timing chain tension-er or guiding the timing chain to keep tension. Over time that plastic will wear out and screw up the timing and your engine will be running really loud and vibrating the whole car like crazy but it still has power to drift. Then once that plastic part breaks the car will stall out and wont be able to start again until it is fixed.
I'm a german and I've a E39 530d wagon as my dailybitch (412287km on the clock). It goes sideways pretty good. 2,2bar tire pressure in the front, 3bar in the rear tires. Opendiff life.. But when it's wet, doesn't matter😅

My mom had a 1994 V8 Thunderbird, a 1997 V8 Thunderbird and a 1998 V8 Lincoln Mark 8 which is also a MN12 variant. Absolutly love these cars. They handle great if you redo the suspension. By now if you buy one, all the rubber bushings are sure to be shot to shit. But put in some delrin bushings and new shocks and struts+springs and youve got a very capable car. Thanks Donut!

16:00 I mean why not? There’s already seen Model S’s stripped about to be ridiculous drag cars. We’re bringing back the Electric Slide.
As far as I know... Tesla shouldn't really be on the list since only the most expensive Performance version has a race mod or track mod that allows a little bit of sliding. All other trims are equipped with absurdely strict traction control systems
That and the panels are already half way off, so stripping the car is easy

NGL, I love when all these car youtube channels mention each other. The Straight Pipes once used "MO POWEH BAYBE" and i remember sitting there like that pointing Leonardo DiCaprio meme.
I've seen Mo' Powa Baby on a bunch of different channels - James Pumphrey is iconic
I love that Donut finally mentioned the w203 but they missed the opportunity to talk about the c55 which comes with an NA 5.4 V8 and a 5tronic super quick shifting and bullet proof transmission.

Gotta love a dime, mine makes me smile every day I drive it
The title of this video should have been "Dope cars to weld the diff on"
But no need to weld the diff on the Mercury Cougar v8, it has limited slip diff, I can drift even on straight streets. Or the S10, well not sure about the S10, but I tried a GMC pickup and it had limited slip diffs and I accidentally kept drifting in the rain. Or the infinity, my friend always took his out to the parking lot to do donuts.
Thanks for crushing my dreams of owning a 944 after releasing this. They gonna go up 10 times in price now
Dream bigger
Jk
Eh they've been steadily going up in price for years
C230 is a fun car to drive.

RE Chevy S-10: V8 swaps in these seemed to be extremely common/normal back then so finding one with a V8 should be fairly easy.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but was not the Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme equipped with a V8 engine from the factory?
@@paxhumana2015 That is what I was thinking as well
@@paxhumana2015 Nope, 4.3 v6 was the big motor and they also offered a 4 banger.
When I was 13 my friend gave me an 88 s10 with a 350 in it lol no title no tag. But i learned how to drive and drive fast in it xD
@@stephendavis1837 That was big. I suppose the plethora of 350 or 383 V8 swaps into those both Xtreme and non had me confused since I only saw a stock V6 model once and never saw a 4cyl ever in one.

...But can you make the Reliant Robin a drift car?
My brother had an 01 528i I believe, but thing only had 80k miles, owned by an older lady the life of the car. I got to drive it once, and the car was smooth as hell, quiet on the interior, had good audio system for 2001, was pleasantly suprising.

He’s like a “live rear axle isn’t good for sliding” (James earlier), lists hachiroku as one of the best drift cars.
Timothy Wenzler lists S10 right after that
I chuckled a bit too
and live rear axle isnt even that bad in drift
I was looking for this comment
It's easier to slide a live axle than IRS, wtf is he on about?
4:55 so happy to see this. I still own my '97 gmc sonoma with the 4.3l v-6 vortec.
That vortec is bulletproof, i drove mine 300k+ and the only reason I stopped was because I got a mazdaspeed 6.
Another free way to drift: On foot
If you have a spacious hardwood floor, socks, and good coordination, you can drift while running. I learned how to, and it’s pretty fun, but tiring after a while
Im pretty sure that if enough people ask Elon Musk directly to add drift support to Tesla's he 100% will 😂
what do you mean there is a drift mode
James: "I know gonna be a bit squirrely with the short wheelbase, but you guys all love Miatas"
I havent had a laugh like that in a bit.
I'm a german and I've a E39 530d wagon as my dailybitch (412287km on the clock). It goes sideways pretty good. 2,2bar tire pressure in the front, 3bar in the rear tires. Opendiff life.. But when it's wet, doesn't matter😅
I used to drift my 86 Chrysler Fifth Avenue, definitely needed momentum
First favorite car: Chrysler crossfire hemi, all because of a blue hotwheels model I had of it
I still remember James saying
"I've ridden an elephant. A lot of times. Don't ask why".
I love drifting Miata nc, The balance of the car really let me know when the tires break the traction

Man Im so happy you mentioned the MN12!!!! I had 2 of them for my first and second car. 94 V8 Thunderbird and 95 V8 Thunderbird. My sister had a 1990 V6 Tbird and then a 1994 V8 Tbird.

Fun part is that Tesla really shouldn't be on the list since only the most expensive Performance version has a race mod or track mod that allows a little bit of sliding. All other trims are equipped with absurdely strict traction control systems. They maybe have fixed that allready but about half a year ago it was true

@@Pythnn I'm not claming I'm an expert. Maybe you're right. They could've added a ney mod recently. There's the Engineering Explained video called "regret buying mid-range" where he mentions unswitchable traction control on lower trim Model 3s.
