Thank you for sharing this. This is a very clever way to do it! I appreciate that the method also helps the students to hear the fifth interval over and over to help with their own tuning ability. Bravo, Mr Radspinner!

@@williamsportorchestras5031 No problem, thanks for posting! I've seen this protocol before, but need a concrete example to decipher and copy. We never know what impact what we share has. And I think I just made a connection, coming back to this comment and seeing your email in response to another comment... what are the chances you're related to Mrs. Radspinner, of awesome-beginner-orchestra-playalong fame? I had my 6th graders playing Stayin' Alive a handful of times now and didn't close it fast enough and they saw "Ghostbusters" and got really excited, guess which one we'll do on Wednesday? Thanks for posting this! Really well explained alternative to the approach full orchestras follow (tuning to the oboe).
You are welcome!

Thank you so much.
Always wondered about this. Thanks for explaining.
Of course, as a member of the pianist master race, we are above such primitive necessities.

Any suggestions for tuning an orchestra full of elementary students?
Any chance to record a Tuning Sequence without talking? It is for my music class!!
send me an email at mradspin@wasd.org
Science...
Another word for quiet is piano. Piano means soft.
The E string on the double bass is much lower and deeper than the E string on the violin.
5 octaves lower

Could you possibly do this without talking?
But he has talk, he has to instruct every member of the string orchestra. Orchestra directors sometimes talk to instruct the orchestra members.
Probably a bad idea to get the violas to tune so early. I would put them last :p
Stop masking your orchestra. It is dehumanizing and is antithetical to the concept of music-making and expression.
Hello, this was filmed when the school required us to wear masks. Students are no longer required to wear them.
@@williamsportorchestras5031 don't worry. I reported the offending user for misinformation. Masks help save lives.
