“I rang the BELL made of JWELLS to inform the OFFICER that due to the lack of SUNSHINE the AIRCRAFT crashed into the PYRAMID near the PARLIAMENT.” Such inspiring words…
"East Richmond still doesn't exist it's all just government propaganda" that just brilliant line 😂
What is an East Richmond?
Funny I have stopped a train many times. Was it my imagination? LMAO
@@topher1976au Timing stop to account for other delays on the line. Happens on bus routes too.
I always found it very strange that on weekdays Alamein trains wouldn't stop at East Richmond. You'd have to get a Gken Waverley train from the city or Richmond to get off at East Richmond. Never found out why?
The reason that there’s train services twice on Sundays to Sale is probably because there’s a large prison there and visiting is on weekends
1:18 wild how they name a swim centre after someone who drowned
we still don't know for sure... Holt could've been an alien lol
@@blue.square , and living in china.
Wild but such an Australian thing to do 😂
Harold Holt was a renowned swimmer who unfortunately drowned. Just goes to show that ocean swimming can be treacherous.
supposedly he was kidnapped by a Chinese submatine.
7:03 Moe is pronounced "mow-ee"
8:04 Eildon is pronounced "eel-don"
"Mow" 😭😭😭😭
qazzy might be a 3 stooges fan.
@@vsvnrg3263 well I am laughing as much as i would watching a 3 Stooges short!
@@savvastzionis9112 , part of the pleasure of this channel is the mispronunciation.
That's how I do it, not sure where the other version came from.
When I hear stuff like that I immediately think the video was voiced by AI.
love this.... i'm impressed that though you mispronounced moe (mow-eee) and eildon (eel-don) you got wycheproof correct! The mid-road train line was one of my favourite sights on family drives between melbourne and mildura
great video as usual mate, somany interesting facts one small correction at 4:39 there is also a set of tunnels in-between Heidelberg and Rosanna stations. Keep up the great work
Great video! 4:53 Upper Ferntree Gully is also a 2 platform station on a single track section
and Belgrave. Although if we count the narrow gauge, then Belgrave has 3 platforms
I used to be qualified on the UFG panel.
So doubling as passing loops
if belgrave counts then i think lilydale does as well, unless the recent station upgrade included duplication (it's been a long time since I've been out there!)
Good fun video to wake up to today!! I wonder if there's enough useless info for another 10 minutes. We're going to have to have an inquiry into East Richmond - I'm sure I saw it not long ago 😄 Did lol at the 'straight' platform graphic!! Well done, another great video.
5:24 the line was built to 1600mm 5' 3" broad gauge, like the rest of the victorian train network. The trams are 1435mm 4' 8½" standard gauge, so they were completely incompatible with the rest of the network, and an entire dedicated fleet and depot was required to run it. The ultimate reason the line closed was because of a fire at the depot that destroyed a large amount of the trams. There is one preserved at the Ballarat Tramway Museum that survived
"The Greatwinter Trilogy" by Sean McMullen is set in Victoria a couple of thousand years in the future. They're still arguing over what is the best rail gauge.
*Victorian Train Network.
Unrelated but harold holt swim center is wild
And that was the best 11 minutes of my days. I just hope you're next over guess for 12 minutes but thank you heaps for the process information. Loved it
I can't remember where I read or saw it but the story I heard on tram 2100 / 2102 was that the Transport Minister wanted to make a big deal about the 100th B2 class tram, and since trams 2001 and 2002 were the prototype B1 trams, they renumbered 2102 as 2100, and tram 2100 became 2102.
11:06 small correction, you would actually only need about 100m of extra track, although you would have to go up to Inglewood and comeback down via Bridgewater. The Inglewood-Eaglehawk line is booked out of services although reopening wouldn't be very difficult
I used to travel to Inglewood as a kid. Reopen the station, and maybe they'll reopen the Railway Hotel. 🤣
9:17 Nunawading didn't open in 2014 and wasn't a Ballieu/Napthine Coalition government project. It opened in 2010 under the Brumby Labor government.
Similar useless information, planning for the grade separations for Gardiner, Ormond, St Albans and some of the Cranbourne/Pakenham grade separations began under the Ballieu/Napthine Coalition government. However a change in government saw these projects constructed under the Andrews Labour government. For this reason Gardiner was the first 'level crossing removal project' station to open. The scope for Ormond was expanded to include McKinnon and Bentleigh, while the scope for St Albans was expanded to include Ginnifer.
The original plan for the Cranbourne/Pakenham grade separations was to rebuild only Carnegie, Murrumbeena & Hughesdale stations into trenches under the Napthine Coalition Government. The change in government saw the project completely rescoped to also rebuilt Clayton & Noble Park by building all the grade separations as elevated 'skyrail'
When Noble Park opened in 2018 it was the first new elevated station constructed in Melbourne in 37 years. The previous elevated station constructed was Tottenham in 1981. You could probably include Laburnum which was rebuilt in 2006, but the old Laburnum station was elevated too.
hughesdale was not in the orignal plan, it was only going to be murrumbeena and carnegie
Amazing video Qazzy (Some of my facts maybe have entered this video)
the train station at hughesdale (now actually not in hughesdale, thanks lxrp) was named after a local resident Mr Hughes who lobbied for the station to be built.
What is better than 10 minutes of useless Melbourne transport information?
11 minutes of useless Melbourne transport information!
Morkalla now closed was the longest distance from Melbourne at 413 miles. The longest hypothetical rail journey was from Morkalla to Balranald via North Geelong.
At Langi Logan between Ararat and Maroona in broad gauge days was possible to have two up trains (or two down trains) cross.
Love getting home from work to watch this
I absolutely love these types of videos. Can you make a few day trips using public transport
Wonderfully useless information 🤣 Great video, loved it 👍🏽
Could you please make a video on the point cook train line that should be built and part 4 for strange train stations. Love your videos btw
I used East Richmond Station for years, when I used to work at Siemens (now Xerox) in Church Street - a 3-minute walk from the station. Unfortunately, it was not well served by the Lilydale/Belgrave line. I would have to change at Burnley, then Camberwell to get a train to Box Hill and vice-versa. The reason being that East Richmond was only served by the Glen Waverley line and Box Hill trains ran express Richmond to Camberwell. I used to work every Saturday and so I'd just take the Express and get off at Richmond for an 11-minute walk to work - which I didn't mind. That was 45 years ago and I remember that station very well.
Bunbury street tunnel also has the overland go through it
there is a few on the regional network
With that 27km of track, you could run a train from Echuca to Geelong via Bendigo, Ballarat, and all stops in between...
Or you could use 23km of that track to run a train from the Mel-b’n to Donvale, stopping at Vic Market, Parkville, Carlton, Fitzroy, Vic Park, Chandler Hwy, Bourke Rd, Bulleen, Greythorn, Doncaster SC, Victoria St, and Tunstall Sq
10:33 One of the routes is Shepparton to Mooroopna operated by Jacobsons Coach Tours and the other route Is Entirely in shepparton Operated By Dysons
For a video full of useless information, that was entertaining! 😊
A few things I noticed in the video:
At 0:47, you mention that A class tram number 280 is the only one left with the old livery. There is a website called tram detective, and the service history showed a few months of no service earlier this year so I think it’s already in the PTV livery.
At 1:49 the Z class tram you showed, number 116, was withdrawn at the beginning of April this year. The oldest currently running Z class is actually number 123, which entered service in mid February 1980.
Fun fact: Fawkner station is the only station that used to have a graveyard railway on the network
They should return passenger trams to Bendigo using the soon to be retired trams as the G-Class roles out. Surprised Jacinta Allan hasn’t proposed that as it’s part of her electorate.
@@reubenab6005 I tried proposing that a while ago about ballarat. There would need to be some major expansion of the network and duplication in more places for it to be a viable alternative to driving. It also wouldn't meet DDA requirements which might make it infeasible or impossible, but Bendigo is absolutely big enough for trams
@@m31tdown & the buses around the cbd are pretty well used, a long term extension to Lansell Square & Weeroona College would cover all the main bus corridor.
@@m31tdown it's a pity... a non-compliant network would be better than no network.
@prodigalretrod Well, yes, but DDA is actually the law, so it can't really happen at all. That certainly doesn't mean they shouldn't be preserved at Ballarat and Bendigo so that they aren't all just scrapped, but they will never ever see commuter service after they are withdrawn from Melbourne
transport for NSW have their colour coded transport modes: orange is trains (but it should had been blue) buses are blue (should had been orange) ferries are green, light rail are red, and metro are teal. PTV can't put their rail signs there, but mid year, they did add all their bus stop signs for Beechworth and v/line coaches.
6:00 I'm no expert but it think you're meant to sit on those seats
Great video. Entertaining + more useless info!
fantastic video. vale the tram route 69. rip king
Love the post mate.✌️
Eildon, eel-don, moe, mow-ee
RE: Your last shot of a QR Train, I think I might have seen you filming
11:02 its also the only bus that goes over the Westgate bridge!!!
Here's more useless but factual information. When I was young I was addicted to railways. On sundays in the early 80s I would live out my dream of being a station master by turning up at Heyington, Jolimont & West Richmond stations, usually on platform 2 with my homemade wire hook and gate key and operate the train destination signs as I knew the timetables backwards.
On one occasion on a saturday afternoon at Jolimont platform 2 I even locked the gate when a train arrived and had the cheek to re-ooen the gate once the train departed and ask the passengers to show their tickets and most did.
I was never an employee of Vic Rail either.
Fun times.
In NSW they wanted to do exactly the same as Victoria, cut every long distance rail line. As if it would be ALLOWED to happen
I propose that they rename East Richmond station to Cremorne (to make it more accurate and less government active)
I believe that the suburb of Croydon is also named after the station.
From the book "Croydon Then and Now": "The name Warrandyte was given to the new stopping point. As this was more than 10 kilometres from the village of Warrandyte it gave rise to much confusion and many complaints. The railways and Lillydale Shite Council sought to resolve the problem in 1884 and called on those interested for a suitable name for the station. Gregory Lacey, who owned a large area of land near the station proposed the name Croydon after the English town where his wife originated."
The History of Maroondah page on Croydon says it was also called South Warrandyte between being called Warrandyte and Croydon.
@@benwilliams4699 as an ex council employee i approve the typo "Lillydale shite council" (and props for remembering the extra L!)
@@melm4251 I'm glad you picked up on that. It wasn't a typo :) It always feels a bit strange to correctly spell Lillydale Lake, knowing it's assumed I've spelt it incorrectly.
1:38 Eaglehawk says hi. Back in 2020 a platform extension there happened and it was built slightly curved.
There’s a Z class in the MET livery at Membrey’s Dandenong
As a recent move to Melbourne, this was actually really useful lol
Highpoint 2nd Entrance, I use that to every commute to Highpoint 💀
Corrections: There is a tunnel between Heidelberg and Watsonia, but it still means the Hurstbridge line has the only traditional rail tunnels.
Also the wait at Eltham is often 7-8 minutes
Thanks quazzy made a hard day a lot easier
D class trams do show the stop name its just abbreviated shorter. The stop you mentioned is shown as 'Harold Holt Swim Ctr' on the PID, but maybe its D1s show nothing because ive never noticed that on D2s
my god vic needs to sort its trains out especially regionally like conect them up on the outa fringe like most places in the wold
3:38 brown tram looks nice
5:57 There is wheel under seat. most of low floor tram has this feature because wheel can't be more smaller
7:00 Moe is actually pronounced "Mo-ee", just an FYI but yeah, many people who are not Gippslanders tend to pronounce it wrong.
Also Eildon = "eel-don", rather than "eye-l-don"
I was sure someone would have already commented about these two!
someone actually named a swim center after harold holt, who drowned. no way.
A pool in Canberra is named after him too. He absolutely loved swimming so he would probably be happy about it
love it!! 😄😄
Thankyou for including lots of facts from the werribee line, I barely see any :)
East Richmond is like that platform from Harry Potter...
Sydney has a much more modern tram system and sydney is rapidly extending its system. Robert.
I thought you were going to say that Broadmeadows was most dangerous because of the high concentration of runaway trains.
Harold Holt swim centre, LOL.
I can remember we did go from Ballarat to Bendigo on the Train of Knowledge it was via some route I still don't know?
3:19 Is Broadmeadows the most dangerous because of the two runaways?
When are we getting 12 mins of useless information?
I'm pretty sure the tunnel is also used by the overland, along with the XPT and Albury services.
Absolutely correct.
Useless, thank you Qazzy
You missed a pasanger service that goes through Bunbury street tunnel the overland uses that tunnel as well
Curved platforms illegal?
Melbourne must be even flatter than I thought 😳
Even Sydney Metro will have curved platforms.
I'm not sure if they are actually illegal, but it's at least policy to not build any new ones.
Yeahhhh Westona!
@@djackmanson Westona!
Lol - love the "homophobic much?" comment - You're very witty :D
7:03 moe! not moe!
4:36 you forgot about the Rosanna tunnels
"homophobic much?" hahahaha. Nice one!
hey i grew up in stawell!
sandlants also runs the vline service to halls gap once a day in either direction, and they make a good deal of their money from school traffic i believe (multiple buses go between stawell and ararat every day, at least for the catholic high school in ararat.) i took a bus driven by sandlant himself for a while, he was a bit of a dick! also my usual bus driver drank red bear vodka premix on the job. the bottles were on the dashboard in plain view. country towns hey?
I had to book someone from Albury to Adelaide return, they were in Adelaide for less than 8hrs and on the bus for 36hs. Why?!
1:18 Sunbury station doesn't have V/Line signage.
Gippslander native in here to correct how you pronounce "Moe". It's "Mow-eee". And is an acronym for "moccasins on everyone"
So Warnambool to swan hill is possible if that track was built
2:52 I bet you tram stop patronage data is still collected, and thus, you could put Freedom of Information Requests in periodically to get it from them
why aren't train horns fitted to trams?
Hello Quazzy ! There will be a Pakenam end project celebration on Saturday 16th November 2024 go to Victoria’s big build and go to community events
Then press on Pakenam end of project celebration there will be a steam train activity’s and a farewell please go and make a blog of it thank you QUAZZY!😊
Unless facts about closed lines in Victoria edition?
You forgot upper Ferntree gully asa a2 platform with single trak
Have I got Deja Vu or was this already released yesterday
Released for members yesterday
0:37 and also The Overland
The people of Moe want to know what you have done with their town name.
Eildon also.
6:04 PTV Had One Job and Still Failed
Bro qazzy is goated can you do 12 min
This is a good video but do remember that Melbourne is a city and Victoria is a state, and it's wrong to use the former to refer to the latter. A lot of these facts are about Victoria despite the video's title.
"We used to have the tram route 69"
Not nice :(
WARBURTON MENTIONED
7:32 it did when St Kilda and South Melbourne lines were running. And it kinda still does, it's the Arbory so definitely a good place haha
4:28 legit saw someone do this in front of me for the first time.. now i know!
6:46 um not jus bayswater ringwood east? union station?
bayswater rebuild was unique because of the near by maintenance facility, so the rail line was lowered slightly, and the road raised slighty, union for example only had it lowered, the roads were not altered.
@@2_pelicans yeah that makes sense, i feel like the statement I the video could've been clearer
Mo-ey
tram 59 has 59 stops.
2:25 *Sharpest*
does the overland go through the Bunbury street tunnel??
Yes it does
“Moe” is pronounced “mow-ee” like David Bowie, not “mo”.
Eildon is “EEL-d’n”
Its Mo-ee and Eel-don mate
