109 should be at least 9/10. You forgot to mention the best thing about the route: outside of box hill central a man was sipping on cask wine heading down to balwyn mcdonalds i was on the 109 me and some guys from school heading down to north richmond we had to go through victoria street where everyones on heroin oh when i look back now the tram always seemed to take forever stopping at victoria gardens with daiso and hoyts cinema all thanks to the 109 one man is sniffing on paint thinner another man smells like glue i spent my evenings on the 109 tram and thats when i met u standing up at the tram stop opposite the kew tram depot u had just been to the skinny dog oh we got the tram together and we both got a myki fine we were on the 109 we were on the 109 on the 109 adahdahdahdahdahdah the 109
I would agree too, despite being a busy route with a couple of a class trams running in this service. I would assume that the introduction of the new g class trams would displace some of the b class trams to run in the 109 service. That way overcrowding in trams ease a little despite the b class trams having double the capacity as the a class trams as well as them being the largest fleet member of the tram network.
I feel like the 86 deserved higher. The two reserve track sections on the route, allow trams to pick up some speed (especially on Plenty Road). To be honest, it's actually very similar to the 75. Great video!
the speed of plenty rd is only useful if you need to go out there, which most people don’t expect for the two unis. otherwise it parallels the much faster 11 and mernda line, especially on high st and the preston section of plenty rd.
I agree with all the ratings, except the 109. You need to factor in the getting stabbed by someone on Victoria St, which raises the rating to a 15/10. Great video, as usual!
I used to work at the RMH and live in North Melbourne. I caught those 59/55/57 trams so often. I’m living in Perth now and this video has made me so nostalgic! I remember there was a Facebook group about the 57 tram and its unsavoury characters. It was called “the good ship 57” or something like that.
I agree that the 72 is a poor line overall but it has one very good strength that was not mentioned. The 72 has interchanges with Belgrave, Lilydale, glen Waverley, Frankston, and P/C train lines. Meaning that if it is one of the few tram lines in Melbourne the can actually replace a car and unlock massive amounts of the city.
Yep, the 109 is quite slow, particularly through Collins Street and Victoria Street/Parade... I use to work close to Southern Cross station and initially caught the 109 to work, however I then switched to catching the 109 to Box Hill and then train to Southern Cross. Occasionally, while I'm on the 109 to Box Hill, I would mental note down the tram number of any 109 I pass going towards the city to roughly gauge how long it takes to get to my office. Usually, I would be able to get to Southern Cross, walk to the office, go up the lift to my floor, setup my laptop, chat a bit, then go back down to get coffee and as I'm walking to coffee, the 109 I made a note of would have just passed! A total of 20 to 30 mins later!
Thanks for the video. Being a "born and bred" Melbourne girl, it's lovely to see the trams from another perspective. Even my Qld hubby found it interesting, as I insist that we trams whenever we visit ! He kept saying " oh, I know that place!"😂 My favourite routes have to be the 86 and 96, but that's because growing up, they are the 2 I used the most ....although back then, the 86 used to just in from the corner of Spencer and Bourke Streets , and terminated at the northern end of Plenty Road, before it veered right. ....it was the 70's 😂😂😂
Great video again mate! My two cents again 😊 Wowzers only 3/10 for the 72! It has a lot to offer in my view. Its main drawbacks to me are low frequency and the class of trams which are deployed. For me at least, additional pluses are that the 72 also connects to Camberwell station and Toorak Station (in addition to Gardiner station) and the fact that it services the Alfred Hospital which is always one of its busiest stops. In fact, all of the stops between Hawksburn and St Kilda Road are always extremely well patronised. It’s also not as slow as it might seem at first glance. Keep it up mate 😊
i'm not sure if it's weird to be patriotic for a tram route, and i really don't care about patriotism as a concept, but i've used 58 most of my life so i'm happy to see it do well here!
i love the 75 tram it gets me to swinburne everyday but there have been 3 times this year the driver missed my stop at kooyongkoot and stops on glenferrie rd which is two stops after please i beg you driver hes literally geriatric :'(
Z-class trams must be extremely rare on Route 58, as I've worked near William Street pretty much daily for 18 months now and have yet to see one go past, mostly E-class and B2-classes, unless they run on weekends only which would make sense as to why I don't see the Zs.
Completely disagree with 58's rating. It's my local route and I can't express how much I hate using it. The Toorak rd section is horrendously slow due to shared traffic and on-street parking which causes delays further up the line towards Coburg. Not only this but the Kings Way section is one of the most unsightly areas on our network and the stops are hard to get to. Lastly, the Royal Park section is nice during the day, but is essentially pitch black at night which makes it a terrifying place to end up after a night out.
I'm an 86er, and i have to agree with the rating. The shared Plenty/ High/ Smith sts just slow down what is quite a long journey. If you're just doing a short section, you probably wouldn't even notice.
In the morning peak it's about 5mins quicker to take a train from Southern Cross to Collingwood and walk all the way across to Smith Street, than it is to take the 86.
96 is my favourite line too. Small correction though: I've been on C2 Trams on the 86 twice this week alone. So it's not true that line would exclusively use E Class Trams. Frankly I think the 86 and 96 both interchangeably use C2 and E
The 57, 59, and 82 will be served by G Class. The G Class will replace the b Class on Route 57, 59, and 82. The B Class will be Cascaded to Replace A and Z Class Trams.

as the 109 is my local tram, I approve of this message

Just because it’s slow on High Street shouldn’t mean the route 86 should get a 5/10. Am I right?

Never not seen a druggo when I’ve taken the 109

And Alamein! Whoops
The 86 should be higher for its part as the inspiration for the song 'Northcote (So Hungover)'

Ah, that beloved Melbourne institution... the Montague Street Bridge.
>Today I will be rating Melbourne's tram routes from 58 to 109
Wow, that's one heck of an idiosyncratic rating scale
Great video! My local tram in the 59 and I agree it deserves an 8/10
i'm not sure if it's weird to be patriotic for a tram route, and i really don't care about patriotism as a concept, but i've used 58 most of my life so i'm happy to see it do well here!
Route 96 supremacy let's gooooooo
i love the 75 tram it gets me to swinburne everyday but there have been 3 times this year the driver missed my stop at kooyongkoot and stops on glenferrie rd which is two stops after please i beg you driver hes literally geriatric :'(
The 96 is tops for most interesting. The 86 takes me back to my uni days. 😅 And I used to commute on the 109 every day. I got so many books read lol

If I ever came to Melbourne, will you be my tour Guide for public transport?
86 should be 10/10
86 on totp
86 on top
Fucking glorified cattle van.
Good to see the 96 get the place it deserves. Best tram line in the world
Rank the metro lines in your opinion.
Haven't seen many Z's on route 58 lately. The day I rode it end to end it was all B's & E's. Did not see one Z the entire journey.
If you search up the Montague Street Bridge on Maps, the first two photos are actually the things that go on over there. :\
Edit: 59 8/10 woohoo
gotta rep my dailys the 70 and 75
My favourite is the one in footscray
64 should have scored lower because it only runs partial routes after a certain hour, from East Brighton to meet up with the 5 on Dandenong Rd
an 8/10 for my local route the 59 is pretty fair. Although now that I drive I seem to always get stuck behind one
Cool videodude
86 is pretty good in my opinion and should be rated higher ecause Collarts, a creative arts university is a 5 minutre walk away from one of the stops.
96 is my favourite line too. Small correction though: I've been on C2 Trams on the 86 twice this week alone. So it's not true that line would exclusively use E Class Trams. Frankly I think the 86 and 96 both interchangeably use C2 and E
C2's are run out of southbank depot only tho, and 86 is a preston depot route. so really that should be impossible
they had C1 trams on the 86 a couple times this past week which is a really rare and unusual occurence but you would never see a c2.
How is the 109 a 2/10?! Seriously though, the 109 is pretty great if you're closer in than Balwyn but not for those much further out due to traffic.
The 57, 59, and 82 will be served by G Class. The G Class will replace the b Class on Route 57, 59, and 82. The B Class will be Cascaded to Replace A and Z Class Trams.
B classes don’t run on 57-59 , it’s the z class
Only 59 runs b classes
14:17 meanwhile that's union road/Whitehorse 💀
Can someone explain the *meow* on the 86 line once it turns onto plenty road? I feel like it's a joke I'm not getting
it was my cat meowing in the middle of the recording
@@QazzyTransport oh, I missed that 😆 watched it again and I heard it
86 is iconic sorry
Too hard on the 109. the small trams are rare enough that it’s a bit of a thrill when one pulls up. But for sure it is slow and crowded nevertheless
86 needs to be rated higer bruh :(
You’re biased for 96. It isn’t a 10/10 for the simple fact it goes through St Kilda.
