    If Hyde and Jackie ended up together I could’ve tolerated the last season. And honestly I felt like Donna’s affection for Randy felt forced and had no chemistry at all. They built her as a strong independent woman throughout the show who didn’t need to be with a man despite dating Eric long term. Jumping to the next guy immediately after Eric dumped her, just cause he had a few similarities to Eric, was so out of character. They really watered her down until she was a less cool version of herself.

      It is not a good way to analyse the world.
      In retrospect, feminism does the same. They compare themselves to men.
      If you are a ``strong independant women`` you will quickly realise that you have wasted your time trying to pretend you are something you are not.
      But, you are probably the type that envies the ``strong independant woman`` type. Whether you are male or female. Only you fail to realise that, at least sooner or later, they all, in fact, cry in the shower.

      Donna was just the worst main character in general. She was always my least favorite character, she just became worst once she turned Blonde, as her worst traits got magnified. With Donna, she comes off as a hypocrite who uses feminism to get her way in an argument or some other aspect of her life when she has shown she's not above acting like a stereotypical woman if it benefits her somehow. The fact that she often overacts to some of the smaller things Eric has done and treats him like crap even when he really hasn't done anything wrong and never gets called out on it doesn't help. I also think she constantly treated Eric like crap.

Later in S8 they bring up again that the money existed, for a very stupid reason, but is not like they forgot It. • @CarlosSuarez-uv3mt
    @CarlosSuarez-uv3mt 3 роки тому +30

    I have a couple of things to say about the show in general. To me the decline started mid-season 5, that's where the episodes had started to become very hit or miss, plus Tanya Roberts (Midge) and Lisa Robin Kelly (Laurie) had to leave the show due to personal reasons; Tanya wanted to spend more time with her husband who was terminally ill back then and Lisa straight up had personal alcohol problems that started once she had a miscarriage, both they were absent for many episodes, with Midge being absent for seasons 4 and 5, and with Laurie only appearing in a handful of season 5 episodes, not appearing at all in season 4 and the showrunners ultimately replaced her with another actress, Christina Moore, for season 6 only for them to write Laurie out of the series entirely, she didn't even show up for the series finale, and even Eric came back for that one. There are also some continuity issues that tend to go unnoticed most of the time, such as the confusing timeline; T70S supposedly took place over the course of approximately 3 years yet every season had a Christmas episode, like how is that even possible? Celebrating Christmas 7 times in 3 years, and there's also this one time Donna's 14 y/o sister showed up and was never mentioned ever again.
    Now, don't get me wrong, I love this show, and I have many good memories of me watching it and enjoying it, but after a few seasons it wasn't the same anymore. I don't really know how awful season 8 is, because by the time I had reached season 7, I was disinterested, I didn't want to watch it anymore because it wasn't making me laugh the same way it did before.

What they did to all the characters, especially Red, still infuriates me even to this day. All those characters were slowly and surely annihilated. I can't find it in my heart to go past the season four finale anymore. What started as a sweet show devolved into a nasty parody of itself where it's just unpleasant for me. So the last half of the series simply "didn't happen." End of story. I find it a far better show if you cut it off after the season four finale and I've stuck with that for a long time.

      +HardcoreKing52-Because they really had no idea what to do with these characters anymore. Eric spends an entire season just effing off, selling off his wedding ring to afford a year of doing absolutely nothing (which is particularly egregious, even if they called off the wedding because they were too young, Eric always knew he was going to marry Donna one day and until he stood her up at their wedding, he never had any hesitation that they were always going to be together. If the writers were actually paying attention, that was the whole reason Eric and Donna broke up-Eric wanted to have a solid commitment because he knew what he wanted in their relationship. Donna didn't). And then he randomly decides he wants to become a teacher, something he never expressed any remote interest in, and that to become a teacher, he has to commit a full year of study and teaching in Africa. . .Okay. . .
      Topher Grace wanted out of the show at the time that came in but still, I would think the writers would've done a far better job handling Eric where he got a better ending than that. Even when Eric returns in the series finale, he admits going to Africa was a mistake and he and Donna are just left with a lot of friction and tension. . .Whoo. . .Nothing is resolved with Eric in the series finale and he couldn't have been more than an afterthought when he is supposed to be the main character of the series. The main character. . .fleetingly comes by five minutes into the last episode.

Idgaf if chase stated what the ending meant either way it was bad writing 101. rule number 1 about ending a story is you don’t fade to black and you don’t make the story turn out to be a dream. It’s a cop out way of saying you don’t know how to properly end a bunch of storylines. David chase dick riders defend that ending and I just don’t get it if anyone else ended a show that way nobody would ever forgive it. Bro, no one has ever said the last season of the Sopranos was bad or even the last episode, but only the ending scene of the last episode, which has actually grown on most fans. The last season of the show is probably the greatest season of television beside season 3.
    The fact that there are people that haven’t seen the Sopranos is just sad. You’re doing yourself an incredible disservice 😢

    Well, good news is everyone feels the same as you, I even think a writer of seasons 1-7 said in an interview that season 8 was an alternate universe to him. Least the majority of the show is good and most of the internet have come up with basically the same alternate ending than season 8. Eric and Donna get married, Hyde and Jackie too, Kelso ends up with his daughter’s mom, and Fez ends up with someone who makes him happy. It’s always a good feeling to know that the majority of ppl feel the same way about something you despise.

      +Lone Rider-I'm one of the people who actually despises seasons five-eight. Seasons five-seven was a slow burn of misery. Season eight was just the free fall of it. I never got on board with Jackie and Hyde and I hated that they turned Kelso into a 1D cartoon version of himself (which includes knocking up someone and being allowed not to take full responsibility for something that big.) So in my eyes, most of seasons five-eight never should've happened anyway. I hate the majority of the storytelling decisions they made for the last half of the series. But if you want to stick to the whole canon of the series, you would stick to what you mentioned. Eric and Donna getting married would be a given. Eric wouldn't have stood her up on their own wedding day, that whole unpleasant war with Red over the wedding never should've happened either (which is why Eric and Donna were forced to rush their wedding in the first place), but after they proposed, they agreed their wedding wouldn't be until at least after college. When Donna is well into her career and Eric finally figures out what he wants to do.
      They all should've went to college. That would've been something new and unique. Kelso may still have met the "mother" but he found someone mature and loving enough to put up with him but stubborn enough to make him a better person, something Jackie never could do. Either he got back with Jackie where Jackie and Hyde never happened or they commit to Jackie and Hyde where Hyde agrees to marry her. Hyde reconciles with his actual birth father from the first few seasons and resolves to be a better dad himself. To have a life and career.
      Fez matures. Nina's breakup with him is a whole lot less dickish. They just agree they weren't right for each other. And he does find someone that makes him happy. A new woman. Kitty and Red move out of their house and decide to go live quietly and comfortably in retirement. Red would struggle with it and be bored out of his mind but he and Eric would develop a better bond where Red resolves he wants to have a better open relationship with his son for the rest of his life. Especially whenever the grandkids come around. He wakes up and realizes how evil Laurie is where he stops coddling her. Laurie gets her just desserts. And the series ends not exactly where it began but where everyone is on a new path and new directions heading into the 1980s.

      Fera Flauna Interesting! I personally liked where the show went up til about the end of season six. Eric shouldn’t have did what he did to Donna on their wedding and they should’ve shown them as an actual married couple, that’d have been great character development. I am true shipper of Hyde and Jackie, and think their relationship was the best and loved seeing it’s progression. Hyde really acted likes the anchor Jackie needed and Jackie managed to chip away at the hard exterior Hyde had and showed his soft side. The two made each other better people, if they didn’t date each other, they’d have turned into worse versions of themselves which actually happened in season 8, and why most ppl hate that season. Kelso held the show together with his comedy and I feel like his relationship with Jackie needed to run its course to show that there’s more to a relationship than being attracted to each other. That being said, giving him a responsibility was the way to go, to show him that life isn’t all fun and games. Fez, ok you can hate me for saying this but I feel like the show didn’t need him. Most of the time he’s either saying something embarrassingly stupid or failing to have anything good happen to him, and I didn’t find it funny or build any connection to him. I don’t hate him, I just feel like he was unnecessary since we have Kelso as the comedic relief. I didn’t really care about Laurie, I’m kinda glad they dropped her. I like your interpretation! But most ppl I know and seen on the internet feel the same way I do and pretend like season 8 never happened and the couples I mentioned end up together.

      @@angel_in-black No, I get why people view Fez as extremely annoying. He can often be extremely one note but in the early seasons, there was a charming, almost pure innocence to him. He was very sweet and a kind hearted person. Having him finally lose his virginity to someone he loved and cared for, that was one of the decisions in the later seasons I really liked. If they went anywhere with it and had Fez build that relationship, and move past his puppy dog crushes and lusting and learn what a mature relationship is. But Nina screwed him over in the worst way possible and they basically turned him into a hornier slut than he ever was. Someone unwilling to stay committed to anyone for any reason, sinking into even more toxic relationships that never go anywhere, and cements his floozy lifestyle until he randomly decides he has feelings for Jackie. Someone he clearly didn't ever any true feelings for and at that point in the series, realized all his feelings for her was just a puppy dog crush and nothing more. They kept on circle jerking around with Fez all the time between his slutiness and falling for the wrong women all over again and he just wasn't likable at all at a certain point. Not only was the relationship with Jackie out of nowhere and unbelievably forced, they were such rotten people at that point in the series, you just didn't care about either one of them.
      And I'm sorry but I never got on board with Jackie and Hyde. The idea is there and it could've been something very sweet if it was set up properly and wasn't just thrown in there. And Jackie and Hyde got together off screen between seasons because they were bored and horny at the time. After Hyde made it perfectly clear he wasn't remotely interested in Jackie before and he didn't even see her as a good friend. I think if they slowly built up that relationship, I would've warmed to it a lot more. And if they didn't insist on the hair-pulling, "Who's Jackie going to choose: Hyde or Kelso?" I DESPISE love triangles and always did even back then.There was no point to doing that, it was unnecessary, and it is infuriating that they dragged it on for so long just to unceremoniously drop it.
      Kelso being incensed about finding out about Jackie and Hyde's relationship was understandable. I actually liked a lot of that where he was left devastated, betrayed by his best friend and the woman he still had feelings for. And he wasn't mature enough to handle that Jackie had moved on. It was touching when Hyde offered Kelso to punch him in the face for Kelso to get all his anger out and Kelso refused to do it because Hyde was still his friend, he was just hurt. I think that was where it really needed to end right then and there. Jackie telling him that she moved on, Kelso would learn to accept it, no matter how difficult it is, and learn to be a more mature person willing to have a stable, healthy relationship with someone else. To give someone the relationship he never could give Jackie. He would always love her but accepted that he didn't treat her well and he lost his chance with her.
      If the show handled the characters far better than it did in the later seasons, a lot of this wouldn't have been a problem, or as much of a problem to me. But things like this were done just because the writers got bored and couldn't think of anything better. Some of the ideas are solid: Hyde willing to shave his beard to show Jackie he loved her because he sucked at saying it was genuinely touching. Donna and Eric finally engaged was something that really needed to happen in the series. It just shouldn't have done largely the way they did it. And that's really my problem with seasons five-seven. Some good ideas that weren't done properly and a lot of decisions that never should've been made. The ball finally dropped in season eight but honestly, in my eyes, for the first three seasons before that, it was clear the writers didn't really know what they were doing.

    Mila Kunis was only fourteen when she auditioned for the show. The casting directors required that any interested actors be at least 18 when auditioning. When producers asked her age, she misled them by saying, "Well, I'll be eighteen on my birthday." and neglected to say what year.
    Mila Kunis (Jackie) had her first kiss in real life at the age of 15 as an actress on this show with Ashton Kutcher (Michael Kelso). She and Kutcher got married years later and have two children.
    The filming of the final episode, "That '70s Finale", was frequently delayed because Laura Prepon (Donna) couldn't stop crying. She had become extremely emotional as the realization that she would no longer be filming the show with the cast and crew she had started to consider as family, hit her really hard.
    The fifth season episode titles are all Led Zeppelin song titles, the sixth season are all The Who songs, the seventh season are all The Rolling Stones songs, and the eighth season's titles are all Queen songs.
    In many scenes, Mila Kunis (Jackie) had to wear platform heels, or sit down, just to appear in the same frame as Laura Prepon (Donna), due to the height difference.
    Kitty's cigarette smoking was slowly phased out after season three, due to Debra Jo Rupp kicking the habit in real life.
    Jackie Mila Kunis and Kelso Ashton Kutcher were one of the show's main couples. In 2012, six years after the end of this show, Kunis and Kutcher started dating in real life as well. In 2014, Kunis had the couple's first child. They got married in July 2015.
    Despite popular belief, Jackie's eye color is said to be brown, unlike Mila Kunis, who has a rare condition called heterochromia, meaning one of her eyes is green, and the other brown.
    Red's middle name is Albert. His full name is Reginald Albert Forman.
    Although they play brothers in the show, Ashton Kutcher and Luke Wilson only share one scene during the whole series.
    In many episodes there are references to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), mostly by Eric Forman. Much like Eric, Topher Grace is a big fan of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) and Star Trek (1966).
    Some songs playing during the scene changes, or bumpers, are snippets from famous '70s songs such as "Fly Like an Eagle" by the Steve Miller Band, "Magic Man" by Heart, and "What Is and What Should Never Be" by Led Zeppelin.
    The reason behind Midge's reduced role throughout the series is because of Tanya Roberts' personal struggles. At the time, her husband, Barry Roberts, had been battling encephalitis, and she left the show to take care of him.
    The rock group poster often seen on the wall in Eric's basement is of Paul McCartney and Wings.
    Ages of the main six when the show started:
    * Mila Kunis - 15
    * Wilmer Valderrama - 18
    * Laura Prepon - 18
    * Topher Grace - 20
    * Ashton Kutcher - 20
    * Danny Masterson - 22
    The song by supergroup ABBA, "Fernando" was released in 1975 as it is played as the song that Hyde has his first dance with Donna in season 1 episode 8 "that disco episode" in the year 1976
    The theme is actually Cheap Trick's cover of an old "Big Star" single from 1972
    The theme song is originally a Big Star song called "In the Street." Cheap Trick covered parts of it for the theme song.
    Bret Harrison as Charlie Richardson was intended to be the replacement character for Eric Forman once he left for Africa (and Topher Grace left the show). However, Harrison had won the leading role in Reaper (2007) and could no longer commit to the show, and so he was killed off by having him fall off the water tower fatally. Josh Meyers was then recruited to fill in for Topher Grace.
    The only core male teenager throughout the series with whom Jackie (Mila Kunis) never has a romantic relationship is Eric (Topher Grace). Their hostile nature towards one another is pointed out sporadically throughout the series. When Eric leaves for Africa, he is genuinely shocked that for the first time ever, Jackie calls the house specifically to speak to Eric, stating she always considered him a close friend.
    The series finale, during the New Year's Eve party, ends exactly at 11:59 PM on December 31, 1979 as the characters count down the clock. The show ended 1 second before the beginning of the new decade (the 1980's).
    Like Kelso, Ashton Kutcher used to be a model

    More little details to why the last couple seasons lost the magic was, the lighting was too harsh and made everything look too crisp (in contrast to the fuzzyness before that helped it look aged) but also made it look too much like a "set" and seem less authentic than the way it looked before. And it seemed less like a lighting you would see inside a house. Basically, the more they modernized it and made everything look more crisp and bright the more modern it looked and it ruins the old 70's nostalgic feeling and so on.
    Also, they used to play some background music during scenes, especially at the basement, to make it feel even more like a group of friends hanging out having fun and listening to music, it brought more magic and life, they stopped doing that.
    And i have to mention something you noted which i agree on and it's their hair, everyone's changed. Even Jackie, her hair didn't look like 70's anymore, sometimes it looked just like any other girl in the 2000's hair.

      Season 7 would have been their first year married and renting an apartment across town so they could still hang out at the Foreman house and their friends. And season 7 would have been the final season and when it ends Eric and Donna leave Wisconsin where Eric gets a job working for one of the big three car companies and Donna gets offered a radio job that puts her through college to get a degree in communications and before the season is over Jackie and Hyde are engaged and Kelso chooses to move to Chicago to be closer to Brook and Betsy. Fez decides to stay in Pointe place with Hyde and Jackie so the group doesn't completely split up. The irony is the writing staff of Season 8 was largely the same staff who had been there since the earlier seasons (only three of the writers in Season 8 had joined the show after Season 5). Creators Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner and Mark Brazill stepped down in Season 7 (Bonnie left entirely before returning as an executive consultant alongside the other two in Season 8). They passed on the showrunner reins to Jackie and Jeff Filgo (who had been there since Episode 2), only for them to pass the reins to Rob DesHotel, Dean Batali (both of whom joined in Season 2) and Mark Hudis (also an original staff writer) for Season 8. Basically, the creators were the creative glue that held “That ‘70s Show” together as Eric and Kelso were the glue that held the main characters together, and the remaining legacy writers couldn’t maintain the momentum in trying to reinvent the show with Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher’s departures, focusing on the other characters and adding Josh Meyers (while inadvertently causing Randy to end up the Scrappy, instead of writing him as a close to acceptable replacement for Eric and Kelso).

    The last season of The Soprano's was excellent. Most people (including myself at the time) just didn't understand the final scene. The ending makes perfect sense when you pay attention to all the details throughout the entire season and, importantly, the use of perspective from the moment the final diner scene starts.

      @@tmanokc yeah but they failed miserably to make a coherent season. It was like they were just throwing darts at a board and forming episodes based on what it landed on. "Who hasn't Jackie slept with yet?? Fez! Sure that makes sense!!!" Don't even get me started on the Shoe-Horning of Randy.

    One thing that really pissed me off about the show was the inconsistency of the timeline. They were juniors in season 1 but there was like 4 Christmas episodes how is it possible to have that many Christmases in 2 school years.

      @kollie79 You can tell they weren't sure how long the series was going to last since the first season took place relatively within a year. 1976-1977. I believe seasons two-four was 1977-1978. Seasons four-seven was 1978. And season eight was 1979. So you have Eric and Donna proposing to each other, graduating college, Eric standing her up on their wedding day, and Eric completely effing off for a "year". . .within the same year. Oops. They screwed up the gang's ages a few times. Kelso is actually supposed to be a year older than everyone else since he had to repeat a grade. (The writers probably forgot about that entirely.) Honestly, the goofy inconsistencies like those are often forgivable. It's just in the later seasons where they really put a strain on the entire thing where the show was just obviously going on way too damn long. That 70s Shows probably would've been far better off, especially with how they handled the characters in the later seasons, if they were put on a limited run. At most five seasons. The storytelling really took a nosedive after season four anyway and having a "limited run" would've made everything tighter and much more stronger and focused.

    This show nailed my teenage experience so precisely I feel like I could have written it. The group I hung out with; growing up in a generic, nowhere place; the family room at my best friend's house; his dad being a big scary monster, while his mom welcomed and fed us; the circle. Hell ... three of us even passed around the same girl for a while.
    The adventures were exaggerated, to be sure, -- and we didn't have a foreign kid -- but I recognize almost everything in this show.

    The series should have ended like this: Eric and Donna actually got married, and they decided to move to their own house, so there is no point in going back to the basement. Then they just tell you what happened to each character without showing it, like those teenage movie endings, like: Hyde found his real dad and started working at a record store, Kelso went to live with his daughter, etc. And all this happening during the last days of the year 1979.
