Alright, so the comparison has been made more than enough. This video does have some similar takes to one made by Jessie Tribble's. If you haven't seen his video, I highly suggest checking it out. He made some excellent points--- some of which I never even thought of. I did not see Jessie's video or know of his channel before my comment section made the comparison. I have since watched and even subscribed to him. I did not copy his video... upon watching the two you can see we don't see eye to eye on everything. A lot of work goes into these videos... so being "called out" for "ripping (Jessie) off" is kind of a slap in the face after rewatching the show's last 4 seasons, taking notes, scripting the video, recording audio, and then finally editing this together for 4 days. I would not copy another creator's work--- I try to bring my own perspective and shitty jokes to everything I create.

They doubled down on the Pam-Jim fiasco. They must have had a lot of fan mail hate, because in the finale, Pam is questioned by all the women in the audience at why she would be such a horrible wife to a perfect husband like Jim. And what does Pam do? She trashes Jim, while on stage and insinuates there were things he did when the cameras weren't on. What a trash show this ended up becoming.
@@diegodealejandro2480 They made him regional manager and really developed his character to this regenerated man who wasn't a jerk anymore. Then since he had to leave to be in the Hangover part 3,he came back being a Jerk again and really ruined the whole purpose of season 8
@@RunRandolphRun Well Yea obviously it didn't feel the same after he left , just the office actually tried to develop more characters instead of replacing them like they did in that 70s show, community, two and a half men, and more. Then they screwed that also and went for another season
@@bountyhunter3443 yeah it was real inconvenient cause that came right after them trying to push him as basically the main character after michael left
They couldn't do much about Andy on the boat though. His actor had to film hangover part 3. And I feel like it was more NBC who killed Michael scott as they never offered him a new contract even though later on people close to the show said that steve Carell wanted to stay and the writers (who were also the actors) wanted him to stay aswell. So blame NBC and The hangover
Every main couple in the show ended up together, even Ryan and Kelly. Yet after 3 years of buildup Andy and Erin didn't. That's how much the writters hated the character.
@@marichatismynameandladynoi1990 Andy's actor went away to film hangover 3. That's why he went on the boat trip. And then they had to do something with erin. I assume they would've ended up together if they were able to build a proper story together
They set him up to fail when they did that dumb storyline where Erin finds out he was engaged and wants nothing to do with him (only to want him back after he's happily dating again). I hate Erin.
It`s natural. Michael being written off 2 WHOLE SEASONS before the finale is only one of the examples where comedies totally run out of ideas and think that major shifts will revive it again. Sure, it is good to see the more personal sides of all the other workers in the later seasons but all the ridiculous stuff and all the edgyness was already washed out after middle to later seasons with all that change in the CEOs in corporate
They had to develop Dwight beyond a simplistic kiss-ass. Imagine how limiting and tiresome he would have been if they left him that way for the run of the show. Besides, character growth is rewarding if done right.
Yeah and he was only a kiss ass because he has a respect and appreciation for authority. Which is why early on, he attempts to take Michael's job because he yearns for that authority, even though he appreciates Michael as a person.
I agree that they needed to develop Dwight but the show doesnt really give a reason of why Dwight would grow, he just kind of changed. He just kind of goes from Michael's number one ally to someone who sometimes likes and sometimes just trashes on Michael. They didnt do it right
Why do so many people hate that Dwight changed in his relationship with Michael and started putting his energy towards his own esteem? Angela hit him so hard with the Andy thing that he toughened up and (kinda, you know what I mean) smartened up. I liked seeing his character become less of a joke
dwight was cooler when he was not this loyal cartoon mut to mike's nonsense cause it made him seem more real and less like an idiot.....new leads literally has them fight in a junkyard cause dwight is tired of mike's shit like everyone else...and he lets loose feeling like he could of done more and mike limited his potential..which I agree with....mike has an ego and for some reason he could not handle dwight surpassing him as we saw in the speech episode...from then on mike was shown for who he really was...thats why he could never promote him it feels like..jealousy...this is why I like dwight ...he took it all in stride...pam phyllis andy jim and mike were the worst to him and he just did not care..he kept striving
Yeah I actually kinda liked this dynamic a little better, they turned him into like this real ladies man who actually didn’t complete depend on micheal for his own self esteem and worth. He was just tired of putting up with Michaels shit
It’s because Dwight genuinely liked Michael and despite Michael being ignorant a lot of the time you could see that Michael too liked Dwight. You saw in the finale too how happy Dwight was to see Michael so seeing that whole thing between them for 2-3 seasons was so odd. Also Dwight was meant to not really understand people which he still didn’t really know when he was finding Michael annoying
I think the relationship is a red herring. Obviously people will prefer one or the other but I think it's more about the character. Dwight did more than smarten up -- he became a entirely different person. People become guarded, deliberate, bitter -- all that is fine -- but how often have you seen an adult who couldn't read basic social cues turn themselves into a person who could manipulate others? The very fact that you're socially inept precludes you from even knowing that it's a problem to fix. It's just not realistic. For a lot of people it breaks the suspension of disbelief. Especially when you're binging it.
Dwight and Andy starting off dueling for Erin's attention and ending up ignoring her and bonding while singing country roads is one of my favorite scenes in anything ever 😂
I think Nellie is the worst "new character". They introduced her as a very hateable person and then they tried to make us sympathize with her. But it was too late. I didn't want to feel sorry for her and I didn't want to watch Andy make her feel miserable either. Then there's that late and pointless Jim and Pam marital problem... Last few seasons are simply uncomfortable to watch.
I thought the marital problem was interesting but could have been better. I still shed a tear when they hugged and when they added the wedding flashback. I didn't mind Nellie in s9 tbh. What I didn't like is what they did to Andy.
@@mandyfrommars8789 yeah it kind of ruined Robert California from to take no crap kind of guy who then just got won over because he wanted to sleep with Nelly like it just kind of didn't fit for me. Kind of broke the realism that the show had.
Agreed, I'm fine with stuck up characters, but she was just overly stuck up, smug and annoying I couldn't stand her and did skip most episodes that she was in
Things that ruined the office: when Michael left, the way they ruined Andy’s character, Pam and that boom mic guys weird relationship thing, Sabre, nellie Bertram was just annoying, not enough classic Dwight, and the jokes weren’t offense and dark like they used to.
@@scaryscavenger Robert California was awesome in the Halloween episode. I think the problem was that they took someone who was supposed to be this dark, mysterious, eccentric millionaire and tried to make him into a mainstream character. He was great in small doses. Had he popped in on only some episodes and been that sort of creepy, weird-but-not-kooky shadow like in thr Halloween episode, it would have been great. He wasn't great as a Michael replacement. He just came off as a an unpleasant boss more than anything interedting.
Honestly, I wished they would've done more with Erin. She was an extremely clever idea of a character, but they just did her wrong. I loved her, but not putting her with Andy and throwing her to a bunch of guys in the office was just disappointing. Also, Andy on paper would probably be my favorite character, but they make him an absolute psycho and just overall obnoxious jerk. He had his true Andy moments and you can tell when it's really him, but they made him so unlikable. And for the two together, I'm a little upset they didn't end up with each other. Erin was a very happy person despite her extremely sad childhood, and Andy was a very happy person despite his anger issues and how people treated him. They deserved each other and would've been a pretty loveable couple. Those two should've gotten better.
Right? Erin at first just seemed like a ditz but they did a good job giving her layers with the orphan stuff and her general intensity. And her and Andy really were perfect for each other until they nuked him. What a shame.
I was so angry and uncomfortable how many times they tried to make a bunch of dudes come onto Erin. Especially Clark, Pete, and Gabe. (No, I don't like Pete. He's just Jim but far more unlikeable). The way Clark to tried to videotape her in a skimpy dress was disgusting, I hated seeing Erin's character get taken advantage of so many times after Michael left. Clark is the worst.
I actually liked the transition of Dwight not looking up to Michael. He grew as a person, he realized Michael wasn't as amazing as he thought. So I felt like it worked well.
I always thought he never saw Michael as a genius. He just thought Michael was great because he's the Regional Manager. If you remember the time Dwight snuck on Michael's back to talk with Jan about a possible promotion? He immediately turned on Michael when he got the (fake) news that he would replace Michael. Also, the time when Michael is getting roasted, Dwight said, "Don't you ever talk to me that way you short, pathetic, little man. You don't have any friends, or any family, or any land." then he laughed extremely hard when Pam said that, "Michael is a great delegator. He never does the work himself ever." Bottom line, I think Dwight knows how incompetent Michael is and is just being a responsible employee.
I agree with you. I also thought that Jim's promotion was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak, and sent Dwight down the path of not worshiping Michael because he finally realized that Michael didn't respect/like/appreciate him.
They jacked up a lot of characters, but the one character I feel bad for is Kevin. I swear Kevin had a brain damaging accident somewhere along the line. He started out as a normal guy with a stepdaughter and some poker magic skills, and in the end he talks about Cookie Monster and doesn’t know his letters. What happened?!?!?
Well there are smart Kevin moments like Dallas and how he got away with a lot of financial problems, despite his gambling problem. I mean he owns a bar now.
I agree.....I always felt like he got mroe stupid every season. I used to root for the guy then he just became a goon. But thank god Creed was always badazz.
Ikr they barely mentioned him 2 times after he was gone. I feel like The Office would've been way more succesful if they had kept Michael. I understand that Steve Carell (the actor who plays Michael) wanted to let other characters develop but leaving wasn't a good solution and it's one of the reasons the show died. I would have loved to see Michael and Holly's wedding and how he becomes a father. 🥺
I honestly think them not really mentioning him makes sense. I mean why would they? He's gone, life moves on, I think the way they handled it made sense and was realistic.
@@traviss9583 The fact that they tried to convince us that the guy who literally drove to a different state for Erin would also neglect her literally 1 season later is so stupid. It's always annoying when people act like s8 ruined Andy when he was great there, just went to show how much s9 shits on s8. Just stuff like there being an episode in 8 where people tell Andy that they liked him as manager, just for 9 to have them say they don't a manager, just one by one s9 kept adding stupid choice after stupid choice, and while the final 3 episodes are great the documentary actually being released is really stupid.
@@er_hunt season 9 has some of the worst episodes but some of the best as well ..its not as bad as 1 7 and 8...i think people forget how bad season 7 is...its like the show forgot how to write a show and just put filler episodes into the series and pulled ideas out of a hat they were never suppose to do..at least 7 eps that season were filler....maybe more...
Thanks for pointing out Erin's lack of chemistry with both Gabe and Pete. To this very day, I maintain that she should have stayed with Andy, but they made him deranged and psychopathic, to justify why Erin should prefer the more comparatively bland Pete. 😢
I still don't understand why or if it was mentioned why she ditched Andy for Gabe after spending almost a whole season teasing them two getting together
@Adam Price yeah that's my bad. i was just explaining why she broke up with andy. but the reason she started dating gabe is so stupid. her character was so back and forth, breaking up with andy infront of the office and throwing a pie in his face, then too scared to say no to gabe.
The writers seemed to keep the Erin/Andy relationship at a position of near misses. Just close enough to be able to make an attempt, but one little wrong word or preconceived idea would derail the whole thing. I know the writers were recreating what they had with Pam and Jim, with the tension of waiting and waiting for them to get together, but abandoned them at some point. Ellie Kemper and Ed Hearns are remarkable performers and wished they had a better storyline.
Even though Jim & Pam wouldn't have cheated on each other, there was still potential for good drama there. Imagine Jim confronting Brian about his feelings or Pam confronting Cathy for making her move. But no. These storylines went nowhere. That's what bugged me about them. Brian and Cathy stopped appearing without any real explanation. Can these even be called "storylines"?
if i'm honest i stopped caring about anything related to jim and pam's lives after they got married. i can see why they felt the need to continue to give them conflicts but none of it was compelling to me, just felt like them going through the motions
I don't think Cathy and Brian were meant to be "storylines" because instead they simply represented tension or conflict in the overall storyline of Jim and Pam's relationship. We lost the ability to root for Jim and Pam getting together after they became married, so it makes sense if the writers wanted to bring some of that feeling back in the final season. It was like the writers saying "Remember how emotionally invested you became in the relationship between these two characters? Remember how that used to be a major part of our show's appeal?" So they set up some conflict (Cathy, Brian, Jim's new job, etc.), then later give us the payoff (Jim and Pam's dedication to each other, reminding the audience why we become so emotionally invested in them in the first place).
@@tik5150_ I don't see that as a payoff, though. There's a difference between "Going back to how things were" and "Pretending things have always been the same way"
@@VicenteTorresAliasVits I don't think they were shooting for either of those. I think they were simply trying to tap into our nostalgia by reminding us of our emotional connection to Jim and Pam's relationship. Whether or not they were successful is debatable, but I think they did a decent job.
Seasons 2-4 are the peak of the show. Season 5 was still really good, but it had its first few signs of a show going on too long. And then once Michael left the show really struggled.
I just don’t understand why Cathy was there at all. There wasn’t anyone to did Pam’s job while she was on maternity leave the first time and why did she stay after Pam got back? Her whole character just doesn’t make sense.
I think she stayed for the same reason that Ryan did in Michael's last year, when he did practically nothing in the office, nobody told her to leave and they kept paying her, why leave?
i liked gabe though, I like how uncomfortable it was to watch him fail every time. and erin was one of the sweetest characters in the series, her relationship with michael was so wholesome. in everything else, you got the point.
I actually really liked Erin when she interacted with Michael and Phillis. She should have ended with Andy. That was the only added character that was a great replacement for the original. And we just don't talk about D'Angelo and Robert.
I loved Erin because she was actually a different character than most of the other new or old characters. Like she was the receptionist but she was very different from Pam. Her and Andy were meant to be together. Like near the same level and Michael and Holly if not on that level. Andy got destroyed as a character and I don't forgive the writers.
Robb Noble Honestly I think Pete was a pretty good character. He wasn’t super out there and pretty reserved, meant to essentially resemble a new and quiet Jim I’m assuming.
Bro Nick the IT guy was supposed to be forgettable, that was literally the point of the character. When he left nobody knew his name. That said, you're spot on with everyone else.
Gabe walking into the conference room after Andy saying “you’re gonna like this surprise guest” holding a single mini cupcake with a candle in it and saying “happy birthday to Gabe” will forever be one of my favorite moments him wishing himself a happy birthday in front of other people only to be met with “oh get out Skelton man!” will forever make me laugh
Here’s my overall consensus for the office Season 1: tried to be to much like uk version and didn’t have its own identity. Season 2: the show finds its identity and has classic episodes. Seasons 3-7: consistent a tone of just rewatch able goodness. Season 8: still hanging on to the magic and isn’t horrible but still isn’t anything like the seasons before it. Season 9: completely lost the magic and just sucked ass but thank god the finale of the series out everything back together and ended things well. So yeah even though I hate season 9 it’s still my favorite tv show ever.
I don't know. On one hand I think the derailment of Jamie Lannister was worse. I mean they made a genuinely hated by all character into a fan favourite due to the way they progressed his character, gave him a major redemption arc, and then shattered it by bringing him back to Cercsi in the end anyways. However, the decline of Andrew Bernard's character was done over multiple episodes and was in my opinion like slowly ripping off a bandaid, while Jamie's was like just getting kicked in the face and your jaw broken, if that makes sense.... To be fair though, I never liked Andy to begin with, so maybe that's why I don't hate his as much
TheReverseEffect I know he’s a Game of Thrones character but I’ve never watched the show. By the time I was old enough to watch I heard from my cousins the show had gone downhill
I kinda felt the show started it's decline with Michael Scott Paper Company in S5, that was when they'd long run out of "realistic" plotlines and had to start using gimmicks to keep the show interesting. After that the show has its moments, but always felt 1-5 was the show at its peak.
Seasons 2-4 were the best for me. I really think the writers strike basically killed all the momentum the show was getting. It was an okay show till season 8, I still don't see the logic in character building Andy just to make him a complete ass last moment.
Season 5 was when they started “jumping the shark” which is very common for comedies running out of ideas. Characters started to turn into caricatures. Kevin got stupider, Dwight got extremely robotic, etc.
The Dwight change was good imo, it showed him developing as a person through his Frenemy with Jim and Friendship with Pam was good. It showed how he could develop, in the same way Jim became more serious and professional, Pam became more decisive etc. It would be stale for Dwight to stay the same throughout all the seasons. It made when he became Manager better as he had grown up and earned it.
For me there are four stages of the show 1) Dark period: first season 2) Golden age: from "The Dundies" to "Niagara Falls" (when Jim and Pam get married) 3) Silver age: from "Niagara Falls" to "Goodbye Michael" 4) Decay...
Original plan was for them to get a divorce but the director’s wife thought it would be better for them to work it out to show the strength of their relationship
and what sucked the most was his at first he was actually kinda funny. but after a certain point his entire joke just became...*sex* almost every scene he was in revolved around him being a total sex freak and it got super tiring
Not enough is made out of how they wrote him out of the show.. He manages to somehow talk Kathy Bates character out of her own job as CEO and we as viewers don't even get a scene depicting it..
Robert California in his first appearance was amazing. The problem is that the writers never intended for him to be a permanent character and had no idea on what to do with him.
Andy and Erin were actually a good couple, they had such great chemistry. Their love for the goofy, the silly, just general basic and simple... they really excited each other. The office writers breaking them up made zero sense.
Plus like he basically gave up his job to ride down and win her back like that’s pretty romantic and for what then he just suddenly turned into an asshole
@@revolzyy exactly. They are basically Michael/Holly as a couple or as an individual character. Andy being more Holly type while Erin more Michael type.
The biggest plot hole on the office Is when dwight got a dna test of phillips dna and came back negative and later in the season angela says that Phillip is dwight's son
It was stupid because the whole season heavily hinted at Phillip being Dwight's son. In that episode, Angela frantically chasing Dwight was a major giveaway, but then the writers tried to pull out of that decision, because Dwight was possibly getting a spinoff. All such a mess
I constantly forget Will Ferrel was even *in* The Office, and I re-watch the show at least once a year. Every single time without fail, when he pops up I’m like “oh right, Will Ferrel was in this”
My mom passionately hates anything Will Ferrell. I’m not a fan at all either, less hate though, but he was awwwwful in the Office. I was hoping he’d leave every time I saw him.
How did he even drop it lol. I keep rewatching it and he’s carrying it well and then it just slips lol. Reminds me of when my sis dropped a watermelon down the stairs and it exploded
The IT guy not being a part of the office people, but just a forgotten piece of background is actually the joke. Very on par with the day to day of an office.
TheMineEmerald I didn’t like her at all. She did a really crappy thing and tried to take Andy’s job, and she comes in unlikeable and not funny. And once Andy comes back, we’re supposed to feel bad for her?
BizzyIzzy87 well it’s commonly believed they didn’t renew the contract because they assumed he’d ask for too much. However the fact remains they never asked
Poor Steve Carell, imagine the show we couldve gotten if he never left (or was fired, whatever) Andy wouldnt be ruined, Will Ferrel wouldnt show up, Nelly would be gone. But what's done is done.
I think the show had three stages of decline. First was right after the Michael Scott Paper Company ark came to a close. This is when things started going downhill. Once Saber came in, it accelerated the decline. Then Michael leaving was then nail in the coffin. Things like Pam becoming a salesman and the entrance of Erin seemed odd. I think the biggest loss of the later seasons was Dwight loosing his devotion for Micheal. They had such a funny yet genuine chemistry that once it was over, made Dwight just seem mean. I can't say anything about the last two seasons, since I've only watched them once, over a year ago. The golden ages of the show were seasons 2-5, and everything after was just a shell of the shows former self.
@@nont18411 NO. Brooklyn Nine Nine is better written. Pam and Jim's character got boring after their marriage. They should have ended the show at season 7. They should have prepared it when fcking NBC didnt sign Steve Carell.
I know that the pam jim storyline in the last season was weird, but i feel like they did it because even from the start of the show, jim was wanting something more than being a regional salesman for a mid range paper company. and the reason they did that was to show that even the most perfect relationships face struggles every now and then. they showed that struggle to make their relationship even stronger. to show their loyalty. and otherwise, two of the four main characters wouldn't have any drama.
Nick the IT guy being only remembered when there are IT problems or IT issues ti fix is so relatable of a real office environment, that's why I found the fact that they chose to have such a character very realistic and funny
Unpopular opinion: I liked Jan (original Jan) and wanted her to end up with Michael. But at some point they made her batshit crazy and completely unlikable.
yes! I just atched the sereis for the fist time and I was telling my friends I was rooting for michael and jan and then they really changed her character and it was disappointing
@@baileyvw I think it was an honest depiction. A lot of corporate workers try to look normal but are batshit. Corporate life is cutthroat and miserable.
@@RunRandolphRun bruh ask me any questions about the series and I can answer it. Also I can tell y the show became worse:- 1. The whole Jo Bennet character was good but Robert California sucked. 2. We all knew Jim nd Pam were meant to be together so why to create drama? 3. They ruined Andy 4. They introduced Nelly. 5. S9 was a step up as we saw the characters receive an ending which were gr8. All in all I saw the show twice and I still think the moment the office died was the moment Michael Scott left.
Wow I’ve never heard people who actually like Robert California quite a bit he’s personally my least favorite character of the show but hey I’m glad you can like him.
Yeah I'm surprised at how many people here actually like him. To me his character felt pointless and the reasoning for him becoming the CEO of Sabre is really stupid.
How old are you and how many movies with David Spader have you seen? Because I think you’d have had to experience some of those to appreciate what was of value of Robert California character in the show. This I know because I watched with a 23-25 yr old who hasn’t and it was quite clear why he didn’t understand why and the points of RC. Check out -Sex, Lies, and Videotape-, and -Secretary- there’s more, those just stand out as examples of the kind of characters he does. (To my knowledge anyway) Besides that, we saw managers in this show as largely useless didn’t we? As in, mostly, but not completely. He brought a different weird vibe and a bit of philosophy. Not nearly as hard to take as Nellie, she was such a brief blip as a manager.
The reason Plop and Erin are disliked so much was because they destroyed Andy’s character for them. Regardless of what people think about Andy, there is no denying that he was one of the shows most popular characters and the writers spent years building him up, only to tear him down for a half baked relationship
I hated Plop before I knew much about the show. My first judgement on him when I found out about the show and watching random clips in no particular order that I hated him. First I thought he was a brother to Erin but It felt forced. Later on I found out his actually trying to win Erin and took advantage of Andy's depression and manipulate Erin which made me hate him even more. Also his face is cringy, his voice, and his very presence. Plop is Toby but without the comedy timing. Plop is just there unlike Creed which makes Creed iconic, funny, and mysterious. Plop just makes me want to punch him in the face and shoot him twice if I had a bullet and had to choose who to kill if I could kill Hitler, and Bin Laden.
Absolutely hated Brian and that whole debacle. It felt so out of place, like I was watching a soap opera. And the development of his character just felt like some fan fiction.
I think that Dwight’s development was kind of realistic, however I don’t understand why they had to completely destroy his relationship with Micheal. I also think that Pam’s doubts were also realistic and their martial problems showed that in the end their relationship was strong. I think both of their character progression was interesting and made them more compelling.
Not much to be done for a character with such poor writing. She had no natural or coherent place in the cast, and the writers couldn't decide if they wanted you to like her or hate her on any given day. That said, Catherine Tate is easily one of the most talented performers the show ever had. Makes the weaknesses of Nelly as a character frustrating.
I liked her. She was almost like a exaggerated early season Andy. Crazy and annoying at first but after a big issue(anger management and being demoted to special projects manager) they are nice, good characters
@@James58262 I feel the same way about Nellie being similar to Andy, which is why I never cared for Andy as a character. Loud, angry, and needs attention. /Yes yes, unpopular opinion blahblahblah
Totally surprised that you didn't mention Angela and Dwight in-depth. Angela almost let Dwight walk out of his own son's life (because of the possible spin off), because she was petty and revealed to be insecure
The way i see it is that in season eight the overall quality of the show decreased solely because of michael leaving, and none of the other characters decreased in quality. But in season nine, the overall quality of the show decreased, AND the quality of the characters decreased.
My problem with Andy beingbthe boss was every episode becoming and episode of Glee. Its like it was in Ed Helms' contract he had to have the opportunity to sing in the episode.
Ironically, I thought there was not ENOUGH singing. Andy randomly breaking out into song is one of his defining, most endearing qualities, yet they downplay that significantly when he becomes manager.
Robert California didnt fit the tone of the show AT ALL, they botched that as badly as will ferrell imo cuz they kept Robert California around way too long without really seeming like they had any real plan for him
they spent so much time trying to build the relationship between andy and erin until they decided to make andy crazy and randomly decided to pair erin and pete
I stop binge watching when Michael leaves. For me the show ends there, and there rest is a absolutely waste of time. I genuely dislike everything after Michael. The romances, the bosses. They ruined Dwight mytical figure and his surroundings, showing his family.
Gabe has grown on me after watching this a dozen times... especially when he’s interested in Val and says she’s going to be screaming her own last name. And then asks her out by saying he’s going to take a bottle of wine to a cemetery
I feel like they screwed with Gabe's character. Gabe was a nerdy job focused guy in his late 20s with a love of Japan, and then they made him a weird creepy stalker. Poor dude just needed a vacation
I agree with the jim nitpick except where ryan looked at the camera after he said "hit him toby" and micheal said "whos side are you on" it has me laughing to this day
21:45 "His character did a 360." You mean 180. 180 is a half turn and 360 is a full turn. EDIT: I didn't listen correctly and got it wrong. This comment will be left up for my shame.
“Michael Scott is not someone who you would invite over for dinner to meet your family, but he’s not someone you’d cut entirely out of your life either” This is why I love Vee, best description I’ve ever heard of Michael Scott
I remember Michael leaving, tuning out for a little while, and coming back to find a half dozen new characters I had never seen before. It felt like watching a completely different show and felt very alienating, especially as The Office is kind of an inoffensive comfort show.
23:39 I've heard that they intentionally ruined Andy's character because he went off into movies... spiting Ed Helms by turning his character into a failing aspiring actor because he (shootski) is starring in movies seems like something the WWE writers would do, lmao
The Office never died because even when it was bad, it was still better than the majority of other comedies. Season 8 is a difficult watch because Andy is written as a bad version of Michael Scott, however, Robert California is a true gem and the Florida arc is actually a highlight of the entire series run. Season 9 is a lowest point for me. There was mileage to be had for Jim suddenly deciding he wanted more from his work and Pam wanting everything to stay the same. Jim had never really saw himself staying at DM for most of his career and only stuck around for Pam. Then they got married, had a couple of kids... you can totally buy that once those stopped being these massive things in his life, he would take a look around and be motivated to get a better job. But the way it was written was fairly terrible, for example, Jim, the guy who is chronically non-confrontational, blows up at Pam over the phone, making her cry... it didn't ring true for either of the characters and felt absolutely forced. My biggest criticism of the show (which I absolutely 100% love, by the way) is that it leaned in to the framing concept of it being a documentary too much. It meant that characters would disappear (Cathy is the biggest example here) and storylines would just end (like Jan / Michael after "Dinner Party") because if those characters weren't involved in the Office, they weren't in the show. Parks and Recreation started with the same fly-on-the-wall documentary style but leans out of that concept, using it purely as a style rather than making it a fundamental part of the show. I do have one criticism of your video: I don't agree with your view on Michael/Dwight. Dwight absolutely worships Michael in the beginning but you can see their relationship breakdown. Its written into the show, coming to a head when Michael doesn't recommend Dwight for his job. That's when Dwight goes from seeing them as genuine friends to looking down on Michael for "not having any land". Still, great video.
Whenever I rewatch, I watch until Goodbye Michael, then skip ahead to the last few eps of the show. I wish Deangelo never happened, and that the ending how they had it was pushed forward (minus evil Andy) I kinda wish the whole Jim athlead thing was condensed into a few episodes instead of a long time bc it ruined their relationship. I wish that they had the Michael finale, last 3 eps like they did in season 9, and finished out the show on a high note.
Derrick Hayden and then they ruined andy, brought nellie, ruined the best healthy marriage in tv history, the mic guy, cathy, robert california and didnt let andy and erin end up together.
@@malex027 yeah that pissed me off why they did Andy like that. I wasn't surprised when they made had Jim & Pam's marriage start having problems that I agreed with because it made the relationship look more real.
@@malex027 agreed there was no need to do that to the Andy Character guess it was a good way to ensure the ending of one the greatest TV shows of modern day Television
I don't even feel like watching Jim and Pam's marital problems. The first time I saw the episode where they're saying how they appreciate each other made me squirm.
I think im the only one that liked jim and pam having problems. But I liked it bc of the result. Personally, I fell in love with them. It was what hooked me to the show. So after they got married it felt stale. But then this happened and I was really invested. And boy, when they hugged and said "I love you" at the same tine, dude, I started crying like never before. And no show has ever made me feel that. So I appreciate that arc.
For me, having Jim and Pam have marital problems is a good closing arc for them, a way of showing they can withstand anything (even if this was set up in Season 6 with the divorce of Pam’s parents). But it just drags on for far too long. The climax for me should have been their phone argument. Pam should have NEVER doubted that Jim loved her and NEVER indulged in a guy she barely knows. That took it too far. The arc should have ended a lot sooner, similar to the Leslie and Ron feud towards the end of Parks and Rec.
Jim and Pam are still iconic, and when they made up it was cute. But if they needed character development for Jim then there were so many other ways to do it.
Alright, so the comparison has been made more than enough. This video does have some similar takes to one made by Jessie Tribble's.

He made some excellent points--- some of which I never even thought of.
I did not see Jessie's video or know of his channel before my comment section made the comparison.

Just my opinion.

@@RunRandolphRun Well Yea obviously it didn't feel the same after he left , just the office actually tried to develop more characters instead of replacing them like they did in that 70s show, community, two and a half men, and more. Then they screwed that also and went for another season
they definitely did :/
I'll never forgive them for turning Andy into a villain.
he was stupid and boring anyway
It almost seemed like some of the writers truly hated him and/or Ed Helms. They spent the last two seasons just crapping all over him.

Kelly was actually a lot better before Ryan, she was better off with Darrel tbh
“I just….. couldn’t do better than Kelly”
Different strokes for different folks. They’re certainly just meant for each other
When Michael left, they’ve put the show in a coma. When Andy left on the boat, they’ve officially killed it.
They couldn't do much about Andy on the boat though. His actor had to film hangover part 3.
They didnt do it right
I think the his ark was great
Plus Michael does have his back and that is why Dwight changes
Dwight is better as a lackey
Last few seasons are simply uncomfortable to watch.
i hate gabe more. i forget nellie was even there
I thought the marital problem was interesting but could have been better. I still shed a tear when they hugged and when they added the wedding flashback.
I didn't mind Nellie in s9 tbh. What I didn't like is what they did to Andy.
Nellie was great when pranking Dwight doing the radio show though

Those two should've gotten better.
i agree 100 %
Right? Erin at first just seemed like a ditz but they did a good job giving her layers with the orphan stuff and her general intensity. And her and Andy really were perfect for each other until they nuked him. What a shame.
I agree!
I feel like Erin was just brought in at the right time
I was so angry and uncomfortable how many times they tried to make a bunch of dudes come onto Erin.
I thought so too.
He never does the work himself ever."
Bottom line, I think Dwight knows how incompetent Michael is and is just being a responsible employee.
I agree with you. I also thought that Jim's promotion was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak, and sent Dwight down the path of not worshiping Michael because he finally realized that Michael didn't respect/like/appreciate him.
Hollow Cliche there was a lot of things in this vid I didn’t agree with but we’re entitled to our opinions
Hollow Cliche it was so weird and way too sudden
They jacked up a lot of characters, but the one character I feel bad for is Kevin. I swear Kevin had a brain damaging accident somewhere along the line. He started out as a normal guy with a stepdaughter and some poker magic skills, and in the end he talks about Cookie Monster and doesn’t know his letters. What happened?!?!?
Yeah like he was a little dum in the beginning but why did he have to become braindamaged over time
you're right but to be fair it was hilarious lol. and it's not like he was miserable, he seemed pretty happy :)
Kevin was like a caricature by the end. I feel like they never really knew what to do with him.
One other thing that bothers me is that when Michael left , they tried to act like he never existed which is ridiculous
Ya I felt the same
Ikr they barely mentioned him 2 times after he was gone.

The writers seemed to keep the Erin/Andy relationship at a position of near misses. Just close enough to be able to make an attempt, but one little wrong word or preconceived idea would derail the whole thing. Michael constantly performed for the camera

Season 1: tried to be to much like uk version and didn’t have its own identity.
Season 3 was The Office at its best. Season 8 was already bad and continiuously became worse until season 9 was just utter trash.
Michael left, show died. End of.
Catherine Tate was a great addition, but generally speaking, yes.
Why use lot word when few word do trick

End of what? You said "michael left, show died, "end of"
Ok no one will get that but it's a reference to when dwight said "part of my duties are to"
I still liked Season 9 overall but I feel Andy’s character derailment is the worse I’ve ever seen in any show
I don't know.
TheReverseEffect i always thought Andy was the worst part of the show.
Rowdy Rob Gaming regardless of how you feel about him is throwing away 5 seasons of character development a good idea?
I kinda felt the show started it's decline with Michael Scott Paper Company in S5, that was when they'd long run out of "realistic" plotlines and had to start using gimmicks to keep the show interesting.
After that the show has its moments, but always felt 1-5 was the show at its peak.
1 wasn't good
Hey, cafe disco was one of my favorite episodes.
I loved the Michael Scott paper company arc.
For me there are four stages of the show
1) Dark period: first season
2) Golden age: from "The Dundies" to "Niagara Falls" (when Jim and Pam get married)
3) Silver age: from "Niagara Falls" to "Goodbye Michael"
4) Decay...
I thought it was weird how they tried to practically break up Pam and Jim. It felt strained
Original plan was for them to get a divorce but the director’s wife thought it would be better for them to work it out to show the strength of their relationship
Jim and Pam marriage ruined it . Showed a horrible side of them
The only thing I really disagree with is Robert California. I hated his character and it felt like they tried to hard to make him weird and pompous.
omg he genuinely made me real life uncomfortable i hated when he was on screen
and what sucked the most was his at first he was actually kinda funny. but after a certain point his entire joke just became...*sex* almost every scene he was in revolved around him being a total sex freak and it got super tiring
I’m the f**king lizard king.
They were like Michael and Holly, goofy, silly, general basic and simple
Plus like he basically gave up his job to ride down and win her back like that’s pretty romantic and for what then he just suddenly turned into an asshole
@@revolzyy exactly. They are basically Michael/Holly as a couple or as an individual character. Andy being more Holly type while Erin more Michael type.
The biggest plot hole on the office Is when dwight got a dna test of phillips dna and came back negative and later in the season angela says that Phillip is dwight's son
I Think he took one of Pam’s kids
Angela tells dwight that she lied
he took Pam and Jim's kids diaper instead of Phillips, making the test for the baby being his come back "Negative". This is proven by the writers
Same!
I hate him too!! I just skip when is is there. He also ruined the 9986000 minutes song for Micheal/Steve, and I hate him for that
Paige Twitchell i don’t remember what that song is
@@Arob4343 it's a play off a song from Rent. the office sang it for Michael when he left for Colorado to be with Holly
I literally hated him in The Office. Like HATED him. He ruined that song so much. Fucking idiot.
Erin and Andy should have stayed together. End of story.
They would if Andy didnt turn into an asshole. Erin deserved to be with someone who treated her right
Kazoo kid 2.0 Exactly, the writers messed up big time.
This is weird to me. Even before Andy became an asshole it was a weird relationship. Andy looks like he's about 25 years older than Erin.
@@blainehancock same I actually hated the idea of andy and erin together
@@vinylbuff1515 i personally think erin is super annoying. idk shes basically an irritating plot device
Kevin dropping the chili literally made me cry for hours. 😭
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Still one of the funniest moments in television history. I couldn't breath because I was laughing so hard.
How did he even drop it lol. I keep rewatching it and he’s carrying it well and then it just slips lol. Reminds me of when my sis dropped a watermelon down the stairs and it exploded
It's the crying noises he makes as he tries to scoop it up that slays me 😆
The Office died when the characters started becoming caricatures of themselves. And when Michael left.
The IT guy not being a part of the office people, but just a forgotten piece of background is actually the joke. Very on par with the day to day of an office.
I hated Nellie when she took Andy's job, but I liked her when Andy came back.
TheMineEmerald I didn’t like her at all. She did a really crappy thing and tried to take Andy’s job, and she comes in unlikeable and not funny. And once Andy comes back, we’re supposed to feel bad for her?
@@mojonel but you did like Andy when he returned from anger management? He undermined Dwight too, got him fired.
Steve Carrel wanted to do series 8 and 9 too. The production crew just decided not to renew his contract - he didn't decide to leave.
Yeah I am sure money had nothing to do with it... 😏
@@LiveHedgehog razor sharp edgy ouch
@@whodatninja439 I hated Nelly so much, legit will watch up to the point she shows up and boom back to the beginning
Brooklyn Nine-Nine are getting the same fate, man. Their golden age are also season 2-5.
@@nont18411 NO. Brooklyn Nine Nine is better written. Pam and Jim's character got boring after their marriage. They should have ended the show at season 7. They should have prepared it when fcking NBC didnt sign Steve Carell.
i think the only thing i disagree with is erin entering the show, because i liked her a lot. other than that, very agreeable
It’s not that deep bro.
YES!!!!
Yee
I actually only liked Jan once she became an abuser because I was rooting for micheal to get out of the relationship
Oh we all know the day Michael Scott left was the day the office died.
No
@@RunRandolphRun yes.
@@ishaankhandelwal7059 you probably didnt even watch this while taping only netflix so stop it
@@RunRandolphRun bruh ask me any questions about the series and I can answer it. Also I can tell y the show became worse:-
1. The whole Jo Bennet character was good but Robert California sucked.
2. We all knew Jim nd Pam were meant to be together so why to create drama?
3. They ruined Andy
4. They introduced Nelly.
5. S9 was a step up as we saw the characters receive an ending which were gr8.
All in all I saw the show twice and I still think the moment the office died was the moment Michael Scott left.
Yeah he was a big part of the show and maybe the funniest part but they could have saved it if they just didn’t ruin Andy.
I found him quite funny. And the whole everything is sex just never got old to me.
(To my knowledge anyway)
Besides that, we saw managers in this show as largely useless didn’t we? As in, mostly, but not completely. He brought a different weird vibe and a bit of philosophy. Not nearly as hard to take as Nellie, she was such a brief blip as a manager.
@@ophidianblack Agreed. I love David Spader. And I liked him as RC. He was a weird genius, and it was perfect. A lot of younger viewers don't get him.
@@ophidianblack spader is amazing in Blacklist
Zach Woods (Gabe) is literal comedic genius. His character is the one that worked with the casts antics.
The reason Plop and Erin are disliked so much was because they destroyed Andy’s character for them. Regardless of what people think about Andy, there is no denying that he was one of the shows most popular characters and the writers spent years building him up, only to tear him down for a half baked relationship
Yes. Exactly, thank you.
Didn't like Andy the character, but they did him terrible in the last season. He deserved a lot better, so did Erin.
I think both of their character progression was interesting and made them more compelling.
the best relationship on the show is between Phyllis and Bob Vance (of Vance Refrigeration)
Bob Vance? What line does he work in tho?
Nellie absolutely did negatively impact the show. She stunk to high heaven, completely unfunny and impossible to listen to.
She did have any personality at all. All it was is "i want bebe i spend to much money". Such a boring character.
I would've preferred Donna Noble as a character on The Office.
It was gasping for air when Michael left, then Robert California walked in and stood on its throat.
SteelCityKing731 well this comment didn’t age well
Fishersss Yo fax
When Steve Carell left, that was the beginning of the end.
Stephen Joens he was so bad
Totally surprised that you didn't mention Angela and Dwight in-depth. Angela almost let Dwight walk out of his own son's life (because of the possible spin off), because she was petty and revealed to be insecure
i love how it’s on peacock but everyone forgets
The way i see it is that in season eight the overall quality of the show decreased solely because of michael leaving, and none of the other characters decreased in quality. But in season nine, the overall quality of the show decreased, AND the quality of the characters decreased.
I completely disagree, I think the overall quality of the show started declining in season 6, and by season 8 it was terrible.
Robert California didnt fit the tone of the show AT ALL, they botched that as badly as will ferrell imo cuz they kept Robert California around way too long without really seeming like they had any real plan for him
Dylan Cyr robert california was good for the interviews but that’s it
they spent so much time trying to build the relationship between andy and erin until they decided to make andy crazy and randomly decided to pair erin and pete
Well Andy's actor did have to leave. So they were in a pickle
"Someone finally put the Quaker oats man in his place" had me laughing pretty hard.
I'll say it. Nellie negatively impacted the show. That's a bad character, that helped Andy become a worse character.
It was fairly safisfying to watch how Andy treated her when he got back as manager. He literally owned her and I enjoyed every bit of it.
I stop binge watching when Michael leaves. For me the show ends there, and there rest is a absolutely waste of time. I genuely dislike everything after Michael. The romances, the bosses. They ruined Dwight mytical figure and his surroundings, showing his family.
@Stephen Joens You're either delusional or have really bad taste.

Gabe has grown on me after watching this a dozen times... especially when he’s interested in Val and says she’s going to be screaming her own last name. And then asks her out by saying he’s going to take a bottle of wine to a cemetery
Yeah I like Gabe, he was just used poorly
He was mad funny “Shut up about the sun! SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!!!!”

You mean 180. 180 is a half turn and 360 is a full turn.

“Michael Scott is not someone who you would invite over for dinner to meet your family, but he’s not someone you’d cut entirely out of your life either”
This is why I love Vee, best description I’ve ever heard of Michael Scott
I watch the office season 1-7.
I hated Nellie at first but I grew to like her towards the end.
@CloudyGaming ugh pete was so boring why did poor erin have to end up with him
same
she was really sweet to erin when andy rejected nellie’s adoption letter thing, and she was nice to pam about her art abilities
Was it the episode where Pam teaches her how to drive? That’s what made me start kind of liking her
As an aspiring director, I would despise having you as my producer.
Why where there two unknown female characters at the cast pictures at 8:04?? Who were they??
Gabe was EXTREMELY annoying, I started to like the show less when they put in like 50 new characters. Erin was good though
Ye she was good and its funny how her name is Kelly but changed it to Erin
Whenever I rewatch, I watch until Goodbye Michael, then skip ahead to the last few eps of the show. I wish Deangelo never happened, and that the ending how they had it was pushed forward (minus evil Andy) I kinda wish the whole Jim athlead thing was condensed into a few episodes instead of a long time bc it ruined their relationship. I wish that they had the Michael finale, last 3 eps like they did in season 9, and finished out the show on a high note.
When Michael Scott left that's when The Office started to die but it wasn't dead yet the show was kicking into survival mode.

The first time I saw the episode where they're saying how they appreciate each other made me squirm.
tobys obsession with nellie was the only thing that got me through the last season
Same, they're the ones that made me believe in a real-life kinda love
YES
