  • Part 3 of 10. In this fascinating series, Steve Davis leaves no stone unturned as he delves into the history of snooker. This episode tells the story of the famous billiard player Walter Lindrum, who didn't even like snooker, but if his dominance of billiards hadn't been so total that he all but killed the game off, then perhaps snooker wouldn't have taken over...

I'm not sure billiards would translate to TV quite so much as snooker has. Especially if Walter was at the table. Still, I can see Jack Karnehm being riveted by a match between Tom Newman and Walter Lindrum - he was that kind of person.

I remember there used to be a bit of billiards on in the 80s when Steve Davis had a go at it but no TV company or sponsor would touch it today. There's a lot of skill in it and we used to play a bit on our 5 foot table!

@@SnookerBreak I can see that happening in the 80s - the desperate hope that by getting Steve Davis, ahem, interested in having a go that maybe there will be a resurgence in the game. It certainly takes a lot to be that precise but a game lasting two weeks would make people who think test-cricket boring think again.
