Steam OS is so far ahead of windows for gaming optimization; I just don’t see Microsoft ever overcoming the difference… that said, there’s probably no downside to this all happening; unless, Microsoft intents to buy any portion of Valve as part of the partnership…
I wouldn't exactly say SteamOS is a TV like OS. It's a read-only partition containing Arch linux with Steam itself booting into a Gamescope session. Of course, that might not sell as well.

He seems many people just regurgitate what others say, to ride the band wagon. I just purchased my Rog Ally X, operating windows on a handheld is no where as difficult, buggy or glitchy as you guys like to claim. This super simple. Right triggers for mouse buttons and in desktop mode, analogy stick controls mouse. Nothing difficult or a hassle about it😂
@DavidBerger-g2h I would understand that if their statements were to the comparisons of SteamOS vs Windows OS on a handheld but typically it's not. Yes everyone are doing "comparison" videos on the 2, and some touch on the fact that SteamOS is just more seamless than windows but when it comes to addressing windows on a handheld, their statements are usually standalone. Just basically saying its a hassle to navigate windows on a handheld and thats its trash on a handheld, when in facts its so simple, lol. All the videos actually had me leary. On my way to Best Buy Im like "damn, Im probably going to hate nagivating windows but I'll try to get over it". Get device home and cleary discovered that majority of ppl are just hopping on the band wagon, that's what most do, like to take the stance of the majority. Its not difficult or a real hassle. Yes, its subjective, opinion based obviously, but still, people are exaggerating.
Took people so long I did not think it would ever happen. I just came to assume that people who pay Ubisoft/EA consider that treatment as part of the service.
Legion has 2 forms of mouse built in and a touch screen. I really dont get peoples complaints about navigating windows on handheld. Still want steam OS to do well mind you. The better it does the more pressure windows will get to tighten up the windows mobile game, everyone wins
Were you just trying to convince me that your name is Champagne? Sounded more like you're trying to convince yourself. CES: you want to go there, you don't want to go there for work.
I have no issues using windows on my Rog Ally, Steam UI is what makes it good nothing else in big picture mode, I'm using the Xbox gaming app on my Rog Ally and it's working flawlessly the UI is simple clean and easy to navigate unlike Stem.
I’m excited that I just took your advice and bought Rogue Trader. I’m telling you, if this is even half as good as you sold it. I’m bank. I picked it up on CDKeys for $16. Now I just need a Christmas miracle discount on Indiana Jones.
On the Legion Go S The Steam button won't launch an entirely new OS / Boot. It will run Windows and have Steam (windows x64) as a shortcut on the button. I'm excited to see the mod community put proton/steam OS on it...
As a owner of a Rog Ally X, I can easily say that these complaints about using controls for navigation are a bunch of over exageration. Yes, it's better to navigate in Big Picture mode than windows, but it's nowhere as bad as these creators make it to be. If you want to buy one and think this is something that turn you off, don't let these make you not buy it. There are plenty of better reasons to not get an Ally, like Asus RMA.

Id really like anyone in the comments to chime in on wether i should get the steam deck oled 1tb, asus rog ally x, or the legion go. Ive been having a super hard time deciding. Im leaning towards the deck and game 99% on steam, the only non steam game i play is fortnite and i kinda wanted to try black ops 6 i havent played cod since black ops 2 but thats not a deal-breaker. Ive been agonzong over this choice for weeks and just want to decide. Is the performance really drastix between the deck and the others? Or is a marginal difference like 5-8 fps? Which one will i be happiest with to play during my hour lunch and hour carpool? Which is the best for unplugged performance? I could be plugged in at home but it would be like 70% - 80g unplugged. I do plan to get a dock too for home. Whats the best controller? Im afraid ill make the wrong choice and there will be a huge performance loss or something if i get the deck. I'm ok if its like 35 fps on deck vs 43 on ally x/legion go, but if its like 35 on deck and 65 on ally x/legion then it seems the choice is clear...but i cant find many direct comparisons like you see for new pc gpus showing all the fps comparison charts... I really need someone to help me make this decision. The most important thing to me is just that my games run well and i dont regret it because this is basically the only time ive ever had the funds to get something like this so whatever i get I'm going to have to stay with i can't get both. Which device is best? 😅
If you have 1 Hour Break than Battery Life does not seem to be that Important for you. If you want to tweak then go with Windows Handheld bit every Game works not out of the Box sometimes. If you want Plug and Play choose Steam OS on Steam Deck or the new Lenovo Handheld with Steam OS but not every Game works. I personallly habe the Steam Deck Gamer Nexus has a great comparsion how much FPS diffence there is on Low Power Mode the Steam Decl is better but normal power consumption the other Handhelds win with lkke 20 fps more. In you case if you dpnt scare away from tweaking with Wkndows choose the New Lenovo Handheld thats gonna come out because if you dont like Windows you can put Steam OS on it or Dual Bpot both Windows and SteamOS :D If you have Questions just ask.
Honestly I have all 3 and the Steamdeck is the only one I ever play. It’s so satisfying, easy, requires less troubleshooting than the other 2 devices. I use it more than my gaming desktop, laptop, and Xbox x combined. It’s just so convenient and well made, if you have a big library it’s the perfect device to play through your backlog with. It’s the only one of three I’d wholeheartedly recommend and would buy again in a heartbeat
Legion Go S will likely not have the Z2 Extreme if the rumors about it being Zen3+ and RDNA2 are true(6800HS/7735HS) Thats not to say it cant have the Z2X I am leaning towards it being 7735HS based this would mean native SteamOS should work without issue right out of the box where as Zen4 and RDNA3 based APUs take extra work. This also means you get 8 cores and 12 of the same GPU cores in the steamdeck while being price competitive with the Steamdeck. I could see a 24GB VRAM 512GB SSD coming in at $550. I do hope they put a 1600P screen with better support for freesync and integer scaling. The idea of being able to play old games at the beautiful 1600p144hz but scale down to 800p for newer games was a great idea, just too bad integer scaling just does not work on the Legion GO's screen, also freesync AFIK doesnt actually work as i see tearing alot, its not quite as bad because its vertical so much smaller but when its right on the crosshair its very noticeable. The Legion GO2 might have the Z2 Extreme which i assume will be an HX370 but with way outdated drivers (FYI i just got the latest drivers for the Z1X today, they're from 5 months ago and are something like 7 versions behind what a 7840HS would be able to install) I would personally prefer AMD either completely drop the Z series of processors(because of the driver issues) OR allow end users to grab drivers from AMD rather than rely on manufactures who may abandon the device.(yes i have manually installed AMD drivers, it breaks things on the Z1X)
What i really want from a Legion GO S with 7735HS is the ability to drop it down to 4-6 cores and dedicate 8 of hopefully 24GB total RAM to VRAM With Zen3 you double the L3 per core, and also have a unified CCX, now the unified CCX doesnt make a difference on the steamdeck because it is only one CCX, but the Steamdeck does only have 1MB of L3 per core, where a 7735HS with 4 cores disabled, would have 4MB of L3 per core depending on the game this can greatly improve efficiency, and free up RAM pressure allowing the GPU to suck up more bandwidth this latter part about segmenting VRAM shouldnt be required on SteamOS but on Windows most games will try to stay within the virtual VRAM, my Legion GO is set to the minimum... 488MB(its a weird number not a full 512 , 384, or 256 is all i remember) but this is only because windows just needs a minimum of 16GB of system RAM and i'd take the bad frame pacing of 488MB over the freezing and crashing of only 12GB of CPU RAM
i find it interesting to test games with my monitor docked... it made me realize that "low end gaming" doesnt mean bad picture quality at all + the input lag is so much superior vs consoles... even with series x and stuff you have so much input lag the vrr commercial argument by microsoft is a joke... it doesnt help the massive console input lag... in the last days i tested fallout 4, fallout london and enderal... and all of them look feel and run PERFECTLY FINE.... im comming from a 6950 xt and yes it has a crystal clear image but with my playing distance and seeing how the games look with lower resolutions and settings makes me think that its crazy that a handheld can output huge open world pc games just like that... today i tested the ascent on my monitor and wow... full hd 90 percent res scal ingame (think its fsr2), does an amazing job, settings a mix of ultra (textures), medium and high... and OH MY GOD it looks so good its an UE4 game... would love to test atomic heart but this device also makes you see bad optimized games, but these are rare... 7 days to die for example, its just not a steamdeck game because its the game that has its problems... a processor and gpu 5 times stronger just doesnt care but a steamdeck... too weak for that (desktop performance is also really underrated, it matches my i7 6740HQ, i know old mobile processor, but its a handheld... plus this processor wasnt slow and isnt slow by today standards... most people would say its snappy and it is...
i'd be happy if i can have windows as well to boot up from a device because I'll be honest I have both the steam deck and the rog ally and I end up using my ally more than my steam deck OLED because of game compatibility there's mods that I like to play that I just simply can't install on steam OS like James Bond goldeneye source and then other games like Mario 64 Co-op DX ends up being a pain where it's just simply easier to install on windows so until Val gets up off of the thare butt and fixes these issues I'm staying on windows from the main operating system I still love the steam deck for the controls and I believe it's val's future they just need more time in the oven to really start competing with windows
I am only interested if I can use gamepass ON steamOS, not windows. I downloaded windows on my deck (yes I know I should've dual1booted, but I didn't) and it kinda made me hate using it until I reinstalled SteamOS.
Ubisoft launcher has prevented me from buying certain games and even downloading them on my deck. I cant think of anything in gaming i hate more than Ubisoft dog crap launcher, maybe denovo and drm but its pretty close to a tie.

But one of the coolest things to me about Steam is that they're still around. I have Half Life 2 in my library from when I bought it 20 freaking years ago! And I don't have to dig out some crusty old hardware to play it.
Super Woden GP2 reminds me of RC ProAm for today's hardware! Thanks, will buy!
Does the steamdeck also support Discord? I am a truck driver and it would be cool to just easily play games with friends on breaks
Discord works on Linux so yes
Steam OS is so far ahead of windows for gaming optimization; I just don’t see Microsoft ever overcoming the difference… that said, there’s probably no downside to this all happening; unless, Microsoft intents to buy any portion of Valve as part of the partnership…
I wouldn't exactly say SteamOS is a TV like OS. It's a read-only partition containing Arch linux with Steam itself booting into a Gamescope session. Of course, that might not sell as well.
Im always excited for more PC handhelds. Still gonna stick with my steam deck as the track pads are just too good to give up
the legion go has a trackpad though, and i imagine the next one coming out will as well.
@dylangirard4670 I actually did not know that! That's probably the only hand held I'll consider to replace my deck then. Definitely gonna wait a few years for a generational uplift in performance as I can play so many games on the deck.
@@ethanplayzz1870 ya the steam deck is really a phenomenal piece of hardware. I could never buy a gaming device again and be content with the steam deck. I am looking at the legion go 2 with steam os. I have an ROG ally with bazzite but the battery sucks on it and the X I don’t think is worth it if you have the original. Plus no trackpads. I only really use them for civilization but a pc handheld feels incomplete without trackpads.
@@dylangirard4670Literally any RTS game or any game that has a cursor in game is a nightmare without a track pad. Trying to play Hotline Miami with sticks is a nightmare. The Legion GO is the only non-Steam Deck handheld I'd consider, but that's a huge price jump for me. 😅
@@ADMONIUSya I see the leaked price is supposedly $900. That’s pretty steep. For that much I could upgrade the gpu in my pc but the price could turn out lower who knows. If it is priced more competitively I would consider it
Can you do me a favor? Can you put the names of t he games on the screen when showing them? I have no idea how that race game is supposed to spell out when searching for it.
15:48 Super Woden 2
@shawnlacey7038 ahhh ok cool thanks. Just bought it
Great, we're having BSOD for Steam Deck as Well 😂
I love my deck, i love my legion go😂 both are exceptional Devices!
I hope valve can get over the number 3 complex
I have a Steam Deck, but I don’t see the issue with Windows on a handheld. I enjoy my Ally as much as my Deck.
Nothing difficult or a hassle about it😂
Its about comparsion of the amount of work compared to Steam OS.
I barely needed to do anything with settings in some Games.
Ubisoft just needs to launch a new Division game.
Feel sorry for the devs of that prince of persia game. The game was great, one of the best games I've played this year a solid 8/10 👍🏻
Does the windows versions not just open in steam big picture mode which I thought was what the steam deck launches into?
Were you just trying to convince me that your name is Champagne? Sounded more like you're trying to convince yourself.
CES: you want to go there, you don't want to go there for work.
I have no issues using windows on my Rog Ally, Steam UI is what makes it good nothing else in big picture mode, I'm using the Xbox gaming app on my Rog Ally and it's working flawlessly the UI is simple clean and easy to navigate unlike Stem.
Optimized Steam OS would be awesome to throw on older and lowered powered machines
Good episode, my guy. I’m almost ready to resub. You may not be the best but you try the hardest.
I’m excited that I just took your advice and bought Rogue Trader. I’m telling you, if this is even half as good as you sold it. I’m bank. I picked it up on CDKeys for $16. Now I just need a Christmas miracle discount on Indiana Jones.
If valve wants to be serious with the steam deck they need to begin selling them out here in Puerto Rico in retail stores.
Now if we could get steam os working on desktop pcs eith nvidia gpus i would be excited
I want both steam os and windows os on the SAME device!
On the Legion Go S
The Steam button won't launch an entirely new OS / Boot. It will run Windows and have Steam (windows x64) as a shortcut on the button.
I'm excited to see the mod community put proton/steam OS on it...
I’ve had game pass but hate losing progress when I later buy the game for dirt cheap on steam.
Baldurs Gate 3 falls apart at the end? Did you play it recently? 🤔
Dual boot ftw. Windows runs great. It would be even better if the official geforcenow and xcloud apps ran natively on both OS
I just bought a Steam Deck (oled) so I could play, among other games, BG3... and now I hear it has issues later in the game as you play? Can someone fill me in... lol
I have it for PS5 but I wanted to be able to play it on-the-go or laying back in bed etc.
I also got it for my skyrim and other games but really excited for bg3..
Where the best place to find refurbished steam decks, every time I go to steam it shows sold out
MMW before it's over SteamOS will be shipping on everything, including smart TVs. Valve is doing it right this time.
a chance to make microsoft look like their name micro and soft count me in. first steam deck i've ever purchased will be the one announced here.
It be a game changer if steam gets in with Microsoft
I can't believe this! Got a steam deck a few weeks ago and I really wanted to play gears 4 but no microsoft store support and ubisoft games that won't need a separate launcher. I refuse to buy any ubisoft game because of the separate launcher
Oh never mind lol. No ubisoft launcher...... at launch 😂😂😂
Several years back, i heard that MS wanted to have a Linux kernal for base windows. I was hearing a lot of chatter, and then it went quiet.
I'm not sure what to make of it now.
I think Windows can run Linux apps, maybe that’s what you were hearing about?
For a while there it could run Android stuff but I think they pulled or are pulling Android app support
I want Steam OS 3.0 to work on Rog Ally Z1 Extreme.
Super Woden GP 2 is a safe bet for any racing enjoyer, your opinions are completely validated.
Brooo i jus want them to sort the anti cheat situation out
Bro just go rediscover CES on your own. Make new memories 💪
Everyone wins if this happens honestly. We all should want it
why pick between which OS you want on you Lenovo handheld when you can just duel boot and have both, it will be days before people are rocking with both official images on one device
In you case if you dpnt scare away from tweaking with Wkndows choose the New Lenovo Handheld thats gonna come out because if you dont like Windows you can put Steam OS on it or Dual Bpot both Windows and SteamOS :D
If you have Questions just ask.
I would appreciate A steam OS cube to plugin and get stuff done with
I would totally get a steam os device. But my favorite game (Desitny 2) doesn’t support it
Power plus all of my monthly subscription are available are why I got an ally and got rid of my stem deck.
Your assumption is that Microsoft and Valve are showing up on stage together…to compete with each other?
"Good job on having bare minimum basic features."
Brilliant😂
Hey dude in your opinion ff7 rebirth its playbe in release at steam deck?
i don't really care about the hardware but i think we might get steam os realease soon and i think that would be great.
fellow michigander, no wonder i stick to your channel for steam news 🤝
Witcher 4 will work on the steam deck Oled? Or maybe the lenovo legion go s maybe fix their d pad buggy and could be better?
Valve needs to win and Microsoft needs to sober up
Legion Go S will likely not have the Z2 Extreme if the rumors about it being Zen3+ and RDNA2 are true(6800HS/7735HS)
Thats not to say it cant have the Z2X
I am leaning towards it being 7735HS based this would mean native SteamOS should work without issue right out of the box where as Zen4 and RDNA3 based APUs take extra work.
The Legion GO2 might have the Z2 Extreme which i assume will be an HX370 but with way outdated drivers
(FYI i just got the latest drivers for the Z1X today, they're from 5 months ago and are something like 7 versions behind what a 7840HS would be able to install)
I would personally prefer AMD either completely drop the Z series of processors(because of the driver issues) OR allow end users to grab drivers from AMD rather than rely on manufactures who may abandon the device.(yes i have manually installed AMD drivers, it breaks things on the Z1X)
What i really want from a Legion GO S with 7735HS is the ability to drop it down to 4-6 cores and dedicate 8 of hopefully 24GB total RAM to VRAM
With Zen3 you double the L3 per core, and also have a unified CCX, now the unified CCX doesnt make a difference on the steamdeck because it is only one CCX, but the Steamdeck does only have 1MB of L3 per core, where a 7735HS with 4 cores disabled, would have 4MB of L3 per core depending on the game this can greatly improve efficiency, and free up RAM pressure allowing the GPU to suck up more bandwidth
this latter part about segmenting VRAM shouldnt be required on SteamOS but on Windows most games will try to stay within the virtual VRAM, my Legion GO is set to the minimum... 488MB(its a weird number not a full 512 , 384, or 256 is all i remember) but this is only because windows just needs a minimum of 16GB of system RAM and i'd take the bad frame pacing of 488MB over the freezing and crashing of only 12GB of CPU RAM
Cyberpunk 2077 is great on steamdeck
I avoid R* and Ubi games like the plague on the Steam specials page. I can excuse CDPR because the --skiplauncher option is available
i find it interesting to test games with my monitor docked... it made me realize that "low end gaming" doesnt mean bad picture quality at all + the input lag is so much superior vs consoles... even with series x and stuff you have so much input lag the vrr commercial argument by microsoft is a joke... it doesnt help the massive console input lag...
in the last days i tested fallout 4, fallout london and enderal... and all of them look feel and run PERFECTLY FINE.... im comming from a 6950 xt and yes it has a crystal clear image but with my playing distance and seeing how the games look with lower resolutions and settings makes me think that its crazy that a handheld can output huge open world pc games just like that...
today i tested the ascent on my monitor and wow... full hd 90 percent res scal ingame (think its fsr2), does an amazing job, settings a mix of ultra (textures), medium and high... and OH MY GOD it looks so good its an UE4 game... would love to test atomic heart
but this device also makes you see bad optimized games, but these are rare...
Where can i get the super woden text file
PC handhelds have replaced gaming laptops
I am only interested if I can use gamepass ON steamOS, not windows. I downloaded windows on my deck (yes I know I should've dual1booted, but I didn't) and it kinda made me hate using it until I reinstalled SteamOS.
Hey has anyone been having issues with hltb plugin on the steamdeck?
I'm also a Michigander.
Ubisoft launcher has prevented me from buying certain games and even downloading them on my deck. I cant think of anything in gaming i hate more than Ubisoft dog crap launcher, maybe denovo and drm but its pretty close to a tie.
Denuvo is truly despicable but it at least works with the Steam Deck without needing to create a Account or something else.
EA and Ubisoft really ruin their Games with these Choices the only way is to get the Older Version.
Is that racing game on Switch?...
I just wanna play COD without the run around
The only thing I need from valve is a gamepass competitor, I would 100% double down on linux gaming with steamos3.0
Buying Kingdom Come right now.
3:30 I hope nobody wins. Choice and options are good for consumers. I want Microsoft and Valve to succeed.
Ubisoft has a lot more problems than their launcher sucking
I’m just convinced that anyone who says windows and Linux are annoying to deal with may not actually like one or the other and haven’t tried much.
If we could just find a way to make steamos work with anticheat steamos would be unstoppable...
Whale hello, Deckers!
Refurbs have been out of stock for weeks :/
What was your steam replay like?
Serious Sam.
Only Online Playtime got considered sadly so it did not shpw my actual games :(
@DavidBerger-g2h lol it doesn't show non steam games so I had much lower numbers than what I could've
While it's good for customer it sucks that we can barely count any real Valve competitors.
Bazzite makes the ally x superior to the steam deck. Have t touched my deck in months
More SteamOS devices! More Bazzite by default devices! We need as many Linux devices as possible
Love my Steam Deck but would actually consider (also) getting something like Lenova's device IF it was running Steam OS. I use Linux as my daily driver for work and every time I have to jump into windows for something....ugh. So running it on a handheld? No thanks.
