    I love the implication here, that even if things had gone Danny's way from the start, even if he managed to get the diamond and escape from Africa, he'd never fit in to Western society. As much as he'd hate it, he'd yearn for Africa.

    When I was a kid, this was my least favorite scene from the movie, because I thought all the talking was boring. Now that I'm older, this is one of my favorite moments from the whole film. Archer might not have liked to admit it at the time, but deep down inside the Colonel was right, and he knew.

      I believe the inclusion of those animals was in fact intentional on the director's part. Pure-blooded rhodies are VERY expensive "trophy" dogs for many well financed pet owners, and in conjunction with his massive estate, armed body guards, and personal vineyard, it goes to show just how much money the man has made off of the death and suffering he visits upon his own countrymen.
      The pure bloodline of the dogs might also be a metaphor as well.

    • @Tremulousnut
      @Tremulousnut 6 років тому +39

      It's based on Executive Outcomes, though a biased take on the company.
      In the movie, the Colonel from the movie was an ex-SADF 32 Battalion man. Then 32 Battalion disbanded, he took those that were unemployed and started his company, trading military services for concessions. It's just like how things were with the company Executive Outcomes - After the end of Apartheid many units of the SADF disbanded, many professional fighting men were left without a job, so the mining company hired them to be advisors and soldiers for their military branch.

In the colonisation of Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas. It would be mature and honest to acknowledge history accurately I think. To call other people animals based on the farm killings without acknowledging the evils of Apartheid seems also myopic. Apartheid policies to fuel fighting in black community resulted in the accumulation of unregistered firearms now awash in SA. Apartheid practices are far worse than current killings and that's not to condone but just to state the facts

    My Chana (not my china) the word Chana comes from Zulu word umshana. I would be surprized if ex white Rhodesians even used the word Chana its more common to be used by white English speaking South Africans from Johannesburg or Durban who learned it from the Zulu people. The word Chana or Umshana means friend, mate etc. (white Capetonians do not use this word and if they do they say it incorrectly and they use it in the incorrect context)

    Its Chana its an african Zulu word from umshana its not China (trust me) go to Johannesburg and Durban they are the only white people who pronouce it correctly. When white Southern African people say this word Chana its has atleast two meanings one is friend but if said in a sarcastic way it could be say friend when you not their friend because it could be said during a disagreement when said in a sarcastic way its a real insult to the other person. If said in a friendly way it really is implying friend. Chana comes from the Zulu word Umshana meaning friend or mate.
