@@WoodenItBeGrand my pleasure my friend. No, I noticed that you were hitting the wrong buttons at first. If you'll notice, when you do finally hit the correct jump button, there's a noticable amount of time (I'd say 60-75ms) between the sound of the button press, and the character jumping. Sir, you've just inspired me to make mine... a couple of months ago I bought the joysticks, buttons and usb interfaces... I have a rbpi 3b and everything else, but lazyness got in the way. Now watching your enthusiasm I'm up to make it! Thanks for sharing, yours resulted in a beatiful cabinet.
LOVED this video!! What a beautifully made machine, in both form and function. Never seen a cabinet that had such charm and personality. - 48 yr old Galaga fanatic
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Greatly appreciated. And here's another 48 year old Galaga fan. Maybe not fanatic, but I loved that style of game. 1942 was up there for me too. Thanks for dropping a comment! Truly made my day. 🙏🏻
This video joins both woodworking and retro gaming hobbies of mine. Fantastic job. Love how you fabricated it all. I built a MAME cocktail cabinet 23 years ago with the help of may father-in-law. He taught me a lot about the process. This makes me want to build a super slim 2 player stand up cab. Electronics are so small these days that the control panel is the widest item.
Wow! That's awesome! You were way ahead of your time with MAME back then. I built my first cabinet about 10 years ago & it was definitely a learning experience. One of the reasons I wanted to build this one. And this is already fairly slim. I guess it depends on the angle of the monitor you choose to use, but yes, I think it could definitely be a lot slimmer. Thanks for the input! 🙏🏻
Thanks a lot! I'm really looking forward to seeing the other entries as well. The creativity with these challenges is inspirational. Cheers for stopping in.
Thanks a lot. To be honest, I almost scrapped the edge banding & was tempted to revert back to black computer arcade T-molding. But then I would have needed to get the side panels to a consistent thickness & with a broken thickness planer, that would have been hard work.
Being able to replace components so easily got me to thinking if it would be difficult to make a variety of control panels (where the joystick and buttons are) and casing fronts (the panel where the coin slots are) that could be swapped out for a variety of games. For instance, swapping out the controls for a steering wheel, and removing the casing front to reveal a space with pedals available, so the arcade cabinet can be easily used for a racing game. I've been watching a handful of these homemade arcade cabinet videos, and I'm starting to think that it might be a better route than my original idea (trying to find a broken arcade cabinet for sale to hollow out and replace the innards with a Raspberry Pi setup) since it would provide more flexibility if I can incorporate ideas like that.
Yes, if you want the flexibility to change between all of those different game styles then component construction makes the most sense. My first cab had 2 x 8 way joysticks with 6 buttons each, a trackball in the middle, another 4 way joystick with 2 buttons & room for a spinner. The control panel was oversized to fit it all, and it didn't really work. This cp is so simple to remove and/or replace. I've also added a piece of thin ply after the video under the cp (above the keyboard drawer) and it just means I don't have to stress about perfecting all the cp wiring. I can just drop the cp in and not worry about the keyboard drawer contents catching on anything. Would love to see what you end up building! Good luck! 🙏🏻
I built a bartop arcade cabinet a few years ago. Its certainly a great project for anyone wanting something a little challenging but not too challenging. Most of the workworking is fairly easy to do, no need for fancy joints and the kits with buttons and joysticks make the electronics not too hard even for the novice. Other than that everyone has different ideas on what to add etc. I love the keyboard idea, but i opted to put USB ports on the front of mine to attach a keyboard/mouse or attach other controllers. Hopefully people who watch the video will give it ago. You really don't need plans, just grab some butcher paper and draw up a side panel design on it cut one, then trace it to cut the other side panel. Also watch excellent videos like this one :0-)
Thanks Justin, and I agree. Just give it a go. And a bartop arcade is a great introduction into getting started building one. Thanks for your encouraging comments & I hope others will try to build one of their own. Cheers! 🇦🇺 🍻
Besides just how incredibly legit this project was/is, you inspired me to make something of my own. Instead of dealing with the Pi and all that, I want to make a cabinet that houses all my vintage systems with side door panels to access the consoles and swap games all made of clear acrylic to be able to show off the systems. Route the controllers to the front, or simply make a chase way of sorts for the cords to slide through so you can sit in front of it and still be able to play and not be hindered by a short cord. Call it Cabinet: Curated or something like that, where you have your favorite game from each system ready to go. Make an addition to where you have the speakers at, and just add in a box switcher for inputs and Voila. Obviously make it look sick along the way like yours. Definitely loving this video man. From the start I was getting ideas and that's why I love these videos. Always something to take away from it, whether it be a 100% project dupe or simply inspiration. Thanks for sharing this! BTW this is the first time I've seen one of your videos, Instant Sub Mate!
Wow CJ, thanks for the feedback! And that idea sounds awesome! I have a couple of projects planned that combine acrylic and wood, but nothing as elaborate as your idea. What a sick project! And thanks honestly for the support. Means a lot to me. Cheers!
Yes, so much easier than reaching up through the bottom to change settings, or having to pull the panel out. It's only on the left now, but I'll change the right one soon enough.
Wow, this brings back memories of yesteryear when I could just have fun and play the space invaders' game over and over again!!!. You do realise you now have to build an air hockey table to complete the collection of items that we played with when we were youngsters!!! Great build 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Thanks Simon! Oooooh, I have been entertaining the idea of building a pool table, but air hockey didn't even cross my mind! Very cool video. Brings back memories. I got into video games around the mid 80s. Arcade games a little while later. I liked time killers, golden axe, altered beast, and mortal Kombat.
I'm looking up Time Killers & Altered Beast but loved Golden Axe & Mortal Kombat. A tabletop version of Moon Patrol was one of the first machines I remember playing in the 80s! Cheers for watching!

This is so far the best Arcade Cabinet I have seen so far. I might not have the tools ( neither the experience ) but It drives me in the right direction. With enough pointers to do my own. Thank you
I built my first cabinet many years ago from mdf with only a jigsaw, a power drill & eventually a router. The extra tools just make the job easier & faster to complete. Thanks for stopping in, and be sure to share when you do build one!
Great Video. I made mine a few years back and I really appreciated seeing something done outside of MDF, very satisfying to see the keyboard tray. I added a 2 USB ports to the front of mine so I could swap over to a USB controller for different systems to mine which I found to be very helpful.
Thanks Wesley. I did purchase external usb ports on Amazon with the intention to add them but they never arrived & I wanted to complete the build & video & get it out into the world. I can always add them in the future if I change my mind. The beauty of self-builds! 😁 Cheers for watching.
I don’t woodwork at all, I landed here cuz I ❤ retro games. But my dad did a lot of woodworking when I was young and we watched a lot of shows about woodworking together. This hit on those fond memories. Subscribed!! ❤
I glad you discovered the video Annie! Thanks for watching and I'm happy I was able to reach across genres. And appreciate the Sub! 😀 Lucky number 500!
Some pallets also have smooth sheets of plywood over the top to slide loads off and on with ease. This type of pallet would also benifit a cabinet build.
I built a similar bartop a few years ago. Wife complained about previous bartop so I made something that looked more like a piece of furniture! Proper wood is miles less messy to work with than MDF as well.
Agreed! No fine mdf dust to compete with. I also built a similar cab to this one out of mdf many years ago & I'm glad I could use the flush trim bit outside. Would love to see what you did with your real wood cabinet. Cheers!
Thanks. A necessary addition until I have the time to dial in the button controls enough that the keyboard is not needed. But it's always nice to have here.
Awesome! Thank you! Yeah, I'm starting to play around with some laser cutting projects and I think the extra hard wax tins are going to really come in handy. Cheers for watching.
I'll have to check that video out. Thanks for taking the time to watch this one. I hope you noticed the TRON inspiration on the PalletCade marquee. Cheers!
That's amazing!!! Love this. I don't have the talent to build something like this, or the creativity/brain to design it, but it's still cool seeing this done by someone who does have all of that. Well done. Thanks for sharing all that info too.
Thanks mate, lovely comments. But I also must say I was surprised with the results & I'm sure you'd surprise yourself with what you can do too. Hope you give something similar a try!
Good day Jamie! Happy to subscribe. What really gained my attention is your kind joyful personality in the first half minute. Great work, nice video, intro, clear voice etc. Hi to all our Aussie friends! I'm sharing your built on my discord server, 3rd party projects!
Thank you so much for your positive comments! Greatly appreciated. Looking forward to making a lot more videos & I'll try and continue focus on the quality elements. Looking forward to getting back to Australia in July to continue. And thanks for sharing on your discord! Hoping to inspire like-minded people with the same interests. Thanks! 🇦🇺
To be honest, it came up a lot better than I originally imagined! 😁 Very glad to have tried this method & I'll likely do something similar in the future to match. Cheers!
Thanks! Until the palletchallenge came up, I honestly probably would have built a plain, standard mdf cabinet. But I'm really happy with, as you say, the rustic style. Once I tweak the inner components it'll be a cabinet for life!
This is great work. I manage a mirror and shower door company and we have so many pallets and ive been trying to find a use for it besides burning it while sipping my whiskey on Satuday nights. We have alot of tempered glass that ends up being trash so i may try incorporating that and some LED strips into my cabinet. Thanks for the inspitation. Super pumped to create something super cool 😎
Amazing to have such a great supply for you to work with. And something like a glass & wood creation would be great for your clients. They'd love it! And you had me at Saturday whiskeys by the fire! 😂 Cheers!
really neat project.. turned out great.. I personally would've skipped the space invader embellishment, but I really like the wood joystick tops. really nice touch!
I've been on the edge of building my own machine for a while now. I actually have a Nintendo Unisys cab that needs some tlc, and I didn't want to gut it for a MAME cab. This vid is brilliant and just got me super motivated to get going on mine. I've gotten some really good ideas from this video. I'm really excited to make mine now!
For sure! DO NOT MAME GUT THE UNISYS! 😳😳😳 Take the time to give it the TLC you think it'll need & I doubt you'll ever be disappointed. And have all the fun with the mame build. Would love to see what you come up with. Thanks for Watching!
Yes, I understand. I made this video more of a 'how I made it' than a 'how to make it', but I think you could do it with a lot less tools, albeit taking more time & energy. I'll be making a video on using minimal tools in the near future. Cheers!
Yes, with all the extra space inside the cabinet using a pi, I considered adding a home brew beer tap & fridge. But liquids & electronics never mix well if I have anything to do with it! 🤣
Yes!!! I've seen a few old jukeboxes pop up on marketplace and the dream is real! But where do you stop? A pinball machine? And old one-arm bandit slot machine? Ahhhh, Nostalgia! Thanks for stopping in. 🙏
That's one reason I used a monitor and not a CRT, just to keep this a bit slimmer. But you could always build a bartop cab if space is limited. And I've also seen some genius foldaway ideas too. The inner components don't take up too much space anymore. Good luck! ✌🏻
Cheers David! TBH at the start of Covid the workshop was just an empty garage. I bought most of the tools on FB marketplace, covered the walls with ply (insulation off marketplace) & built the cabinets from ply, formply & Tassie oak from hammerbarn. Had a great woodwork teacher at high school, learned the rest from university of UA-cam!
This is one of the best cabinet builds I have ever seen. The engineering and materials that you chose were incredible. I'm glad the algorithm brought me here.

ME GUSTA TU PALLETCADE ESTA MUY BIEN CONSTRUIDO Y SI PUDIERA CONSTRUIRIA UNO IGUAL.ES EXCELENTE EL TRABAJO QUE HICISTE CON LAS MADERAS QUE SON MUY DIFICILES PARA DARLE FORMA PERO PARA VOS FUE UN PASEO TRANQUILO EN EL PARQUE POR TU GRAN HABILIDAD EN EL MANEJO DE TODAS LAS HERRAMIENTAS.ME GUSTA ESTE VIDEO Y ME DA ANIMOS PARA CONSTRUIR MIS ARCADES.MUCHAS GRACIAS POR TU VIDEO.SALUDOS
Nice build. You scratched two of my biggest itches. Woodworking and retro gaming!
Glad to hear! Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers for watching.
For sure! It could have been used in the base, the keyboard tray, and even furring strips. Great idea! Cheers. 👍🏻

Excellent build. Amazing work, and tons of details.
Thank you! I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Every day's a learning day! 😊
Love your attention to detail. DIY Wooden edge banding? *chefs kiss*
Thanks for noticing. And I did have fun (and learned a lot) creating the edge banding. Cheers! 🙏🏼
Cheers!
Amazing build from scratch and top tier content. Can’t wait for the next project 👍
Wow! Appreciate the compliment.
Thanks for watching and I hope to have more to follow it soon enough. Cheers!
Wow! Awesome work! I wish I had this talent. Simple t-molding kicks my butt.
😂 Believe me, T-molding kicked my butt first time around too. Thanks for the comment!
The keyboard tray was a very surprising and very cool add!
Thanks. A necessary addition until I have the time to dial in the button controls enough that the keyboard is not needed. But it's always nice to have here.
Awesome project, love the look of the cabinet! Great job!
Excellent work! God bless you and yours praying for you
Cheers!!! Appreciate the feedback & thoughts! 🙏
Well that just blew me a2ay Jamie, mate fantastic build…. Just the wire up did me ….well done.
Thanks Dave! Had a lot of fun with this one. And always love a Dainer challenge.
Cheers for checking it out.
That is just.......AWESOME!!!! I LOVE IT. Superb craftsmanship!
Thanks for saying! I truly appreciate it.
🙏🏻
Still have a few wax tins from bunnings. Love your project
Awesome! Thank you!
Yeah, I'm starting to play around with some laser cutting projects and I think the extra hard wax tins are going to really come in handy.
Cheers for watching.
So well done!
Thank you!
See your awesome organised workshop makes me happy
I just wish it resembled the organisation of my life!!! 😅
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great vid! Very inspiring, would love to see you do a virtual pinball machine build to match!
I'd definitely love a virtual Pb cab & it definitely would be cool to match. Something to seriously ponder. Thanks.
Dude! This is insanely good! Not only the wood work but the video Edit! Well done and congrats!
Love it and can’t wait to see the next project
Thanks a ton! Going to be hard to top this one, but I've got a few projects on the go. Cheers!
One of the most watchable videos on UA-cam! Well done Jamie. Super cool editing
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the great compliment. Baie Dankie!
A long time ago I was inspired by the Nostalgia Tron video on UA-cam. I always thought this would be a cool idea to use pallet wood! Great video!
I'll have to check that video out. Thanks for taking the time to watch this one. I hope you noticed the TRON inspiration on the PalletCade marquee. Cheers!
this channel is so high quality. i crave more pallet videos
Thanks! I'm out of the country until November but have many more projects planned that I'll make videos of when I get home.
Thanks for tuning in! 😊
Thanks! 🇦🇺
That's a cool idea. It's like it's built out of barnwood or something, deliberately lo-tech. Looks gorgeous though.
To be honest, it came up a lot better than I originally imagined! 😁 Very glad to have tried this method & I'll likely do something similar in the future to match. Cheers!
Great videos Jamie. Hope to see more.
Thanks Dennis! Working on something Japanese-inspired for the next one so hopefully not long now. Hope you're both well! ⛩🙏
Fantastic video! Amazing arcade! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for taking the time to comment! Appreciate the support. Cheers! 🙏🏻
I like the rustic style you put on this arcade.
Cheers!
I'm gonna make an arcade cabinet, And my idea is to put a raspberry pie as well.
Thanks for the video!
Glad to have inspired! Make sure you share it when it's done, and most importantly have fun during the build. 👌🏻😁
really neat project.. turned out great.. I personally would've skipped the space invader embellishment, but I really like the wood joystick tops. really nice touch!
I did wonder if the space invader was overkill, but I'm happy I did it. I need to use my chisels more anyway! 😉
Veramente complimenti!!!!
Bellissimo progetto.
Un saluto da Torino

Coolest arcade cabinet ever! Great job!
Thanks for saying & thanks for stopping in to watch. Appreciate it! 🙏🏼
I Loved your work on this arcade.
Thank you very much, and thanks for taking time to comment. Much appreciated!🙌
Wow. Absolutely incredible craftsmanship!
Thanks Darren! Still so much to learn, but having fun doing it. Cheers!
Fantastic build!
Glad you like it!
this is the coolest idea for pallets. wish it was just easier to do with common tools. awesome job though!
Yes, I understand. I made this video more of a 'how I made it' than a 'how to make it', but I think you could do it with a lot less tools, albeit taking more time & energy. I'll be making a video on using minimal tools in the near future. Cheers!
This build was outstanding!
Thank you so much! Appreciate the comment. 🙏
This was a fun video to watch. Cheers!!
Thanks Matt. Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the comment.
Hot damn! That was amazing and inspirational. Thanks for posting!
Thanks JP!
And thanks for shining a light on Retro Gaming. Cheers for stopping by!
Such a good watch!
Thank you for your comment. These comments keep me motivated! Cheers.
I want to make one it's crazy funny how small a pie is for such a big arcade I absolutely love it thanks for sharing
Yes, with all the extra space inside the cabinet using a pi, I considered adding a home brew beer tap & fridge. But liquids & electronics never mix well if I have anything to do with it! 🤣
I need one of this with all the classics, I also want a cd coin jukebox to have my cd collection ready to be played!
Yes!!! I've seen a few old jukeboxes pop up on marketplace and the dream is real! But where do you stop? A pinball machine? And old one-arm bandit slot machine? Ahhhh, Nostalgia!
Thanks for stopping in. 🙏
Such an amazing video! Share this man, people!
Appreciate the support Matt! Thanks for watching. 🙏🏼
this is awesome, I'd love to make something like this myself when I have the space for it!
That's one reason I used a monitor and not a CRT, just to keep this a bit slimmer. But you could always build a bartop cab if space is limited. And I've also seen some genius foldaway ideas too. The inner components don't take up too much space anymore. Good luck! ✌🏻
Great build, and I really like how you kept the woodgrain!
Thank you very much! And yes, I still like that you can still clearly see it was formerly some pallets.
Wow! This is wonderful!! Congrats!!
Thank you so much!
@@WoodenItBeGrand you're welcome! A beautiful and diferent Arcade Cabinet!
Amazing job! I wish I had access to that workshop! And half the woodwork knowledge. Brilliant project!
This is a good video. It's nice to see woodworking and technology being combined
Yes, I love seeing creations that combine the two. Cheers for watching!
Great job together with very good explanations...this is how videos need to be
Glad you liked it! Trying my best to cover all bases. Thanks for watching! 😎
fantastic job on this build. Loved the finish of the cabinet
Thanks Russ! Yes, the final look turned out pretty good. Cheers!
Great build. Looks really cool.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Amazing work! What a beautiful, high quality cabinet!!!
Thank you very much! I had a blast making it. Glad you checked out the video. 👌🏻
Nice looking cabinet! Really enjoyed watching this.
Thanks a lot, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Excellent build, well thought out. Brings back memories. Good score that wax oil. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony 👍 - Glad you enjoyed it. And yes, now I have to find new projects that I can use that oil on.
This is so awesome my friend
Thank you so much!
Impressive. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Wow, a tremendous amount of work, and I'm sure it gets many hours of good use and fun!
Thank you, and not nearly enough time on it as yet. Currently travelling but looking forward to getting back to it.
Absolutely awesome video and awesome work. You did a good thing
Thank you very much! Glad that you stopped in to watch. 🙏🏻
Amazing work
Thanks a lot 😊
This is one of the best cabinet builds I have ever seen. The engineering and materials that you chose were incredible. I'm glad the algorithm brought me here.
Thanks so much for commenting! I'm glad the algorithm brought you here too, and I'm happy you enjoyed the video. Have a great day! 😁
Simply beautiful... Congrats!
Thanks mate! Really do appreciate it.
