Let's Build a Mortal Kombat 1 Arcade Cabinet

- This is Madness! No, this is the Electric Starship Arcade where we make dreams come true. Our resident madman, Mike Murray, decided he was going to build not one, but two full size Mortal Kombat arcade machines. With the release of the brand new MK1 imminent and the chance to see a legend grace the arcade once again I was more than happy to lend a hand.
What an absolute unit. That cabinet is solid. Well done guys, especially Mike. That is quality craftsmanship. 👌
That's awesome Mk1 arcade game 😅😮
Your mom's an absolute unit
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e i love your mom
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e Do you think she plays MK1?
@@user-vi4xy1jw7eyour so lame 😂
These aren't cabinets. These are works of art.
💯 agreed man I remember hearing the sounds of MK2 at my local mall😂👍
Xbox Rocks 💪 😎 CRAPstation 5 SUX 🤢🤮
@oliverpunset9537 no one asked.
They certainly seem well built, but calling them art is a reach.
My older brother just bought a Arcade1up Marvel vs Capcom 2 cabinet, and it’s got me contemplating putting my 18 years of construction experience into building something like this.
No time like the present to do it.
Betting anything you build would be better than an Arcade1up.
Ever start? I'm planning to make one with my older TV. Going to make the tv tiltable to double as an entertainment stand. Probably router in drop in controller holes so I can grab them if I feel like playing from the couch.
Imagine finding this cabinet at the arcade back in the 90s. It would literally blow peoples minds.
Lmfao , I think it even had the online , crazy
there would have been a literal Fatality!!!
I was thinking the same thing
If I saw this exact game but in the 90s I’d believe in magic
Cabinets back then had beautiful CRT screens, wonderfum bezels...etc
So I'm not sure about that
these guys are historians keeping a once popular culture alive
I was just speaking about their cabinet making. I'm not too familiar with the new mortal kombat, can you tell me what is woke about it? thanks@toetagcommies
@toetagcommieswhat does it mean? too much dark element?
@toetagcommiesbruh
@toetagcommieswhat ? Go take a nap little buddy, you sound restless !
@toetagcommies If you're going to make wild accusations like MK1 being woke, at least give examples...
This could actually be a fun business idea for new releases. Companies could pay you to make custom cabinets of their latest release and have them at their office or at public events. Amazing work guys, I'm subscribing!!!
I AGree that would be a nice business to have
Yes that would be amazing for gaming convention events, totally agree!
Isn't that what 1Up Arcade does?
@@applejuicejunkie316 yes, but this is a triple-a title in an arcade cabinet
@@applejuicejunkie316don’t think they do it with brand new games but I’m not sure
I love seeing modern fighters getting this type of love in custom arcade units. The FGC is more console based now(for good reason), but it's nice to see these builds because it brings it back to the roots
Yep same I agree
You guys should put a glass or plexiglass on front of monitor for protection & it would look better if you put clear t mold with leds (looks great guys )
Wall of Kombat
Those are absolute quality, professional builds! Amazing work guys.
Fantastic looking machine just needed a sheet of plexi or glass in front of screen as you have that shelf in front covered in dust but otherwise some skills for sure
Great build, guys. Mike's workmanship is fantastic.
Wooohoooo!!!! Peeling off the protective film was such a feelz!!!!
My wife hates when I pull off the peelies from electronics. It drives me crazy.
The cabinet is fantastic. The only thing I might have change was player one buttons and joystick colors to red that way it would not only different the players side but also represented Liu Kang's red and blue fire dragon sides. But either way the cabinet is absolutely awesome.
imagine having color sync to the char. amazing.
Beautiful stuff, just in a nutshell. The quality of it all looks pristine. The stereo sound comes through real well on my headset so i can imagine it's better in real life. 27:32 i wish i had a drill like that.
Cool stuff, nothing like blowing saw dust all over the place where a vacuum makes more sense.
You did great man if only companies still made arcades for newer games that would be amazing. But they couldn't do it so you did it yourself big props to you man you definitely deserve the glory
Honestly, a Bar with 20-30 of these running modern AND retro arcade games would be an absolute HIT in my opinion.
@@TyDieMusicOLED screens 😍
@@DOWNTOWNMAK Bad idea for OLED screens to be used as arcade cabinet displays with all those static images like HUD elements. Bad burn in and image retention as well as degradation of the organic substrate.
If you've seen a fair share of old arcades, there's a lot of burn in with those old CRTs as well.
There are quite a few companies out there that still make arcades. I live in the Tampa Bay Area, and a new arcade building company started recently. It seems arcades are having a bit of a come back. Our local arcade (Replay Amusement Museum in Tarpon Springs) is very popular and almost always packed. Ours is $14 for a day pass. $8 for kids under 12.
Arcades aren't as dynamic than during the 1990s, especially with how powerful videogame consoles are along with their online capabilities.
To me, arcades main appeal are the racing, gift, test your strength & dancing games, something that aren't easily replicated at home. Kudos, for the OP making a MK1 cabinet though.
Ed boom gotta hire this youtuber to bring back nostalgia. Wanna see how is gonna be like on the arcade places.
Beautiful cabinet. It makes me wish they still made official cabinets for these newer games like this and Street Fighter 6. I feel like barcades have been getting more popular in the last couple years too so it needs to happen!
If they have Street Fighter 5 cabinets, I wouldn't be surprise if they made a SF 6 Cabinet. As for Mortal Kombat, this would be fire to see it at Round 1 Arcades.
Awesome cab! I wouldn’t of used the same image of Liu though. I would’ve switched it up and used multiple characters all over the cabinet, and I would add a move list around the top and bottom of the screens bezel like the old skool cab’s use to have back in the day 😎👍✨
I’m so grateful to have found your channel. I’m speechless, such an amazing job. I started to cry a bit. My granddad would take me to play the OG MK at an ice cream shop. This build brought back so many great memories. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Cheers!
Pocket hole screws only suck if they're visible in the end result to this woodworker. I thought the reveal of the vesa mount was cool, i was actually relieved to see pocket screws... so easy and effective.
Love seeing Mike building again! What a great build!
Wow, what a fantastic project.
Thank you!
Made me flash back to when i was a kid when mk1 came out in arcades i literally remember staying there all day on one quarter. Who remembers when u had to put a quarter on the edge of the screen to get next?
I do, I also played the first game for hours on end at my local bowling alley.
I know I do, between Street Fighter,Mortal Kombat and Tekken arcade games I dropped many a Token at the Aladdin's Castle arcade where I'm from in NC as a kid. Great memories, arcades were the shit back then as a kid in late 80's and teenager in the 90's. Good times indeed!
The Pico Fighting Boards work 100% with the XBsX. You can make your own with a 5 dollar Pico or get a Brooks Style board for 25.
Xbox Rocks 💪😎 CRAPstation 5 SUX ! 🤮
Never seen your videos before, cool that you work with Mike and David
Thanks for watching.
Just like the past few mortal Kombat games, your still making mortal Kombat arcade machines RESPECT😎😎😎😎
we need a new renaissance of widescreen arcades like this with modern multiplayer games.
this shouldn't be a secluded one off thing it should be everywhere like in the 80s
Plenty in Florida
It is a shame the arcade era largely died off in most places and I can't see a resurgence but I can see VR style arcades popping up more as the technology gets better
Love how you keep calling them sprites =) hehe it's kind of endearing. This build was DOPE to watch, well done everyone!
Mortal Kombat was big when I was at my first year of University of Michigan, also Street Fighter II. The machines were already crowded just as they were back in 1990-91 at the North Campus commons where everyone went to get lunch and hang out in the lounge, arcade area. I can’t imagine what kind of absolute and complete chaos a cabinet as awesome as this one would have created. There would have been REAL physical combat just to get a place in line to play it,
It’s just amazing
It’s always a pleasure to watch smart people doing things they love well.
The only thing I can point my finger at is the L1, L2 and R1, R2 buttons.
Since it is the XBOX version, it should have been LB, LT and RB, RT buttons.
Other then that, this thing is beautiful and so well made.
Very impressive.
Yeah not sure about the use of the xbox for this, or the TV, would of rather built a PC in it and used a smaller monitor instead of a TV, but still cool
@@flavourfulz8147 That TV is higher specs than most monitors. The lines between "TV" and "monitor" are quite blurry these days.
facts that tv actually does 120fps at 4k so @@TheGeekPub
@@RealSkyeBlue Samsung CU7000 series TV is 60hz $300 USD tv. this is about as cheap as you can go, all the hardware inside it is bottom of the barrel, the concept is cool, the cabinet itself is cool, the hardware is not, alot money spent on cabinet itself with cheap hardware, not how i would go about it, i would gone with OLED screen that was 120 or 144hz and a PC setup that was repairable something like RTX 3060 Ti or 3070 should be able do 4k 60fps in Mortal Kombat.
@@RealSkyeBluealso the game itself is locked to 60 FPS, but there is still benefits going for OLED 120hz screen, faster response times and better image clarity as well as better contracts and colors and ability to have VRR and that TV doesn't support that.
Incredible build! Love Mortal Kombat in general, but this one is special. Awesome video as well. The pacing and editing were great, and I always appreciate seeing the game in its final place on the floor!
Oh man, a miss the Arcades!! Mk1 Machine is pure art! Guys, congratulations! You´re the MK artists =) So glad for watching this video!
sincerely, sir, there are no values like yours anymore. you are a master
This is incredible! I remember the original MK being wheeled into my favourite arcade when it first launched. We played that game every single day!
It looks absolutely amazing I never thought I’d see someone make one of these before
Those Carbinets are freaking dope, only thing I'd ever change is swapping the button labels for (L1,2 R1,2) for LB/LT and RB/RT as they don't match the xbox controller layout and button prompts in game
Fantastic and Briliant Mortal Kombat 1 Arcade Cabinet,,,,,
That is a thing of beauty. Great job. I would love to build a custom arcade cabinet one day.
Truly amazing! You guys also seem like genuinely good people too. Have fun and enjoy all your hard work
as a regular at your arcade, this is the best arcade i’ve ever been to
Awesome! My favorite Fighting franchise. I made my own custom "normal size" MK arcade box.
Absolutely incredible! This was just so awesome to watch. What a dream arcade machine!
Amazing work. Absolutely beautiful cabinets!
Mind blowing guys !! WOW !!
Just imagine how cool would it be if we had that in 80/90s!
I love the way you guys are keeping the mortal kombat arcade legacy alive with these modern cabinets. Makes me feel the MK arcade era didn't end with MK4. Hats off to you guys
Watched from beginning to end and honestly this fully captivated my attention. The craftsmanship, the attention to detail, everything was done thoroughly and I really don’t feel like anything needed to be changed.
Looks absolutely fabulous !
Great job guys !
these cabinets go crazy... amazing work!
Look at the graphics! Very detailed. As for the cabinet.. excellent job! Beautiful!
This was a pure joy to watch. Good job on the build, gentlemen!
A piece of art. Beautiful cabinet.
WOW! Just amazing craftsmanship from you guys building ground up!
As an owner of such an original arcade cabinet myself I think too this is an impressive piece of work, honoring something that was normal in the eighties and nineties. You may as well consider to start doing this for the big audience, you'll be successful.
Que lindeza!!!! Congrats!!
Beautiful! Nostalgic at its finest!! 😢😍🙌🏻
Gorgeous machines. Thanks for sharing.
Phenomenal video man! Love this.
Thank you!
love the quality work, nice to see how a modern arcade is put together. I miss the days where arcades was a big thing and you can just get by with 25 - 50 cents a game. Street Fighter 2 and 3 were my jam during those times. Making an arcade room in my home is a bucket list dream. Consider me subscribed love the video can't wait to see what else you guys work on.
Wow, gorgeous. Excellent work!
Awesome video! I love seeing behind the scenes of how things are built, and this was especially interesting since some aspects were made from scratch.
Looks fantastic. Great job
Thank you!
Very impressive DIY Arcade. Bravo!! You guys seem to like MK since 90s era :)
Why has no one ever built a modern arcade cabinet? Bring back arcades 😢 its been long enough!
Awesome build! ❤
This is wicked awesome, another great build.
Thank you!
Helped sell a few things to this guy for this cabinet. Super excited to see it finished being an MK fan. Love it!
Bringing back arcade memories. Thank you.
Awesome job guys!
Thank you!
Epic build, just finished watching Ed Boon interview on Hot Ones! I absolutely loved MK11, looking forward to seeing how MK1 plays! Enjoyed watching your build!
Looks rad great job!
Looks pretty awesome. Great job on the build.
Marvelous project!!! Congratulations!
Que trabalho maravilhoso 👏👏👏
Looks phenomenal, would love to see some pro players play on that beautiful work of art!
seeing those old screens makes me realize how small they were. The new cabinet screen is the size I remember the old arcade cabinets screens being. I guess when you're a kid everything looks bigger
It’s an amazing cabinet, and I had no idea there was a video of the build. Just popped up on my feed. Amazing!!!
Ficou muito bom parabéns pelo trabalho 😊
What a fantastic work, true craftsmanship indeed!!!!
You have completed the magic feeling of playing Mortal Kombat 1. Just by watching this I realize, as good as the sequels have been, and always delivered, I haven´t played an arcade version since mortal kombat 4.
Awesome cabinets cheers
That's a crazy ass awesome build!!
Very cool. I'd love to see more like this. I enjoyed The Geek Pub's Attack of the Petscii Robots arcade cabinet video.
I love Mk, I love woodwork this is perfection 😂
I love that you also link and plug the button layouts and how to do it yourself. That's super handy. I absolutely love the color scheme you went with. I'd love an arcade system like this for the bar. Man this would be cool.
Super incredible build. But that Burger Time cabinet is gorgeous, too. I'm always a sucker for Burger Time. It's one of my earliest memories of gaming
Precioso, hermoso trabajo amigo
FLAWLESS VICTORY!
Se o Ed Boon ver esse video, concerteza vai contratar esses caras para fazer isso em um evento ou em outra coisa, isso é muito incrível.
Awesome job by everyone involved! I'm enjoying your content.
I didn’t know the guy from tenacious D built arcade Cabs 😂🤣😂🤣
Hahaha
Great video fellas! That cabinet turned out amazing!
Looks great Mike! You guys did a fantastic job!
This was awesome to watch. That chrome trimming really pulled it all together and looks so clean. Great work on that masterpiece!
When you said “the sprites look huge on that” I had a deeply traumatic (and somehow comforting) flashback to my youth. Keep up the great work guys!
Lovely work!
Great job. Love these custom builds. Only thing missing was a trip to Buc-ees 😂
We have an auction this weekend. Gotta go to Buc-ees!
I think it's a great project and the overall finish is great but I don't like the design I think MK1 one deserves a more rounded shape Symbolize it's reset.
Such great workmanship, and attention to detail, it was a pleasure watching this video
What a magnificent work, Loveee the design and the preciseness of wood working, and the buttons oh goodness it feels good to play on those. Love it!.
