I had an SL55 from the noughties, probably the best car I've ever had. This update looks fantastic, I bet it has a fantastic price tag!

The original SL55 was a great car. I think if you had to drive the new one and compare it to the old model, you might not be so enthusiastic. Steering feel is not as good as it is electric and the throttle response is slow on these modern turbo cars. It can be several seconds after you put your foot down before anything happens. Often the exhaust noise is piped into the car or synthesised through the cars audio system. I think the worst thing that could have happened to the SL was to get AMG to design it. The SL was always a great GT car with a great ride, not a taught car more a kin to track driving. MB really missed their customer base for this car. Probably why very few have been sold and why there are supposedly good "deals" on buying one.

The sound is definitely not the same as the previous generation SL’s.
I really want to get my hands on one to drive and then I can confirm what you have said. Hopefully in the near future I can do a video giving my drive experience.

Beautiful car but I am disappointed the SL will no longer have a hard top. I am on my third SL (currently have the SL 400 2017 model) and just love how the car looks with the roof up. Soft tops never look good even when brand new.

The new SL, I was abit sad that the metal roof has gone but I think due to packaging reasons they had to get rid of the metal roof.

Agree with that. I have an SL too but that screen would be the deal breaker for me. I'll be keeping my current SL. Something to bear in mind that these cars as they get older will be incredibly difficult to repair and fix due to the complexity of the tech. It appears great now but in 7 to 10 years time it could be uneconomical to fix or repair.

This car is absolutely outstanding! The looks are stunning and performance, exhilarating and the interior brilliant. Is there anything better than that hand-built bi-turbo, 4 litre V8...I don't think so. I would love to take my girl on a drive in this, my favourite car. I can dream...

Lovely lovely car. But I’m old school. And wish it had the hard top included. Small gripe but my opinion. That for me would make this the perfect AMG SL55.

@maxkazzira4234 not even a small gripe it’s actually a big deal. My mom got the last model SL 550 with the hard tip and it’s way better then this knock off amg gt. The soft top is basically designed to parish from rain and weather so your back in the dealership 4 years from now buying another one.

Temos o mesmo problema no Reino Unido, mas esses carros são um bom lugar para sentar no trânsito. Também é bom tirá-lo da cidade e dirigi-lo pelas estradas rurais, que normalmente são muito mais tranquilas.

Beautiful Car indeed my concern is why the car manufactures always stick to soft top only rather than carbon foldable tops ? I would prefer the carbon foldable top due to its durability especially in South Africa we have high temperature from the hot sun the Soft top which comes in black will attract more heat due to the black colour imagine if your A/C isn't working and your soft-top is closed just saying.

Soft top is the lightest choice in regards to foldable roofs.
You can choose different colours for the soft top in the UK.
I cannot see any reason why the AC would become faulty so I wouldn’t worry about it aslong as the car was serviced correctly.
The other reason to use a soft top is for packaging reasons. A soft top allows more more interior and boot/trunk space.

Look it’s an impressive car performance wise bit it’s just an OK design and one of the best features especially here in SWFL was the hardtop convertible think losing that will hurt sales

Yeah allot of people miss the metal hardtop convertible but for packaging reasons they had to remove it. It is a shame.
Time will tell if Mercedes have done the right thing.
Doubt it'll hurt sales. Didn't seem to bother anyone that the older gt roadsters had soft tops. Why exclusively for this car? This car is basically a 2023 GTR roadster if you know anything about those cars.
@@DrSaahbthe soft top came about because amg took control over the creation of this car. And like the gtr roadster, they opted for a soft top in order to save weight. It's why this car hits 60 in 3 seconds. It's faster than the old GTRs too, but not by much.

i really dont like all these huge flat screens everywhere, i miss the good ol days with the nice and ornate guages and buttons that added great detail and design to the dashboard and overal interior
I do love a well designed traditional gauges but the digital screens in this car are really easy to use and you can change what you see so everyday it can feel like a different car depending on your mood.
Fair criticism. I too like my buttons.
The worst about these huge screens everywhere is that they will all break or malfunction somehow as the car gets older.
Wether it's a Mercedes or a Hyundai, eventually the screens will break and then not only do you have a ruined dashboard without any design and detail but on top of that you also got 2 broken flat screens that are rediculously expensive to repair.
I do agree. I think also most manufacturers know that most of the cars will not be kept for the full length of the customers life, so they have made the cars easier to recycle.
In terms of repairs, hopefully we have plenty of aftermarket options to allow us to enjoy these great cars and hopefully salvage parts from other Mercedes models including the screen.

Fantastic car part from one major problem in the UK. That soft top. Very easy to slash via jealous idiots. I know. I've had 2 cars slashed. (not at the same time). A folding hardtop would be better

TVR Chimera is such a wicked car, did you modify it with the lights or kept it original? I was looking at the values of them the other day and they have steadily gone up. I remember at one point you could pick one up for a decent one for £18,000!

Never buy a 1st year model, there is always problems… No car maker is perfect, and this fact seems to escape the knowledge of so many.
I am not sure about the values. Here in the UK so far it hasn’t lost that much value (yet).
I actually liked the look of the car from the photos and videos for this car but usually I find it hard to like a new car because some of the photos and videos that new models are shown by manufacturers are not the most photogenic lol.
Also I think most brand new technology cars or phones, the first batch off the production line can have minor issues but are always covered under the warranty. If you do not want the headache then definitely wait a maximum of 12 months 👍

Some negative comments could be that. Also some people genuinely do not like the styling (which is perfectly fine).
Other factors could be that they also need a bigger car to store stuff or take taller passengers etc.

The SL63AMG would be a better comparison with a 911 Turbo. I definitely want to do a video on both cars in the near future 🙏

I am so disappointed in Mercedes direction into everything AMG. I was hoping the new SL would mark a return to a lighter, simpler SL - bending toward refined and discreet luxury instead of boy racer.

UK customers can buy the SL55 4MATIC+ Touring Plus which comes with white/silver alloy wheels and less black finishes with more chrome bits. The luxury will also be there which includes massage seats 👌

With an equally price tag. And to top it off there is no state in the US where it is legal to drive this car at anywhere near it capacity. Just another example of a toy for the rich .
Totally understand. Cars like these need to be put onto a track to enjoy the full performance. But it will also feel special when you are stuck in traffic.

For the love of video, UA-camrs need learn the art of filmmaking. They all need to stop with the constant closeups! Frame the entire car much more often and at a distance. Seeing a bumper up close is not necessary and the end result is significantly less worthy than seeing the entire rear (or any side) of the car.
When people see a car in person, they don’t put their eyes right up next to the car. They step back far enough away to be able to take it all in. The video shooting should reflect that.

The soft top and red interior seems outdated and the front bumper looks like plastic and cheap. Looks more like a muscle car to me. And, 4 seats? I don't want 4 people in my car. I'll stick with my 2013 SLK 350 AMG. Would love to have a SL55 but not this one.

Nice car, but the elephant in the room, literally, is that god awful screen. Why couldn't Mercedes integrate it in to the dash as they were always known for great dashboards. This just looks like in was just plonked there, like in a Tesla? It also looks like it slightly inhibits getting to the engine start/stop button. I would have been the ideal customer for this car as I own an SL, which I might add, I will be keeping. Come on Mercedes you can do better than this...

I do agree that the technology is more likely to fail when compared to older cars with less technology.
@@DrSaahb Yes, I have seen the new SL in person, both in showrooms and cars on the street, plus I had a good look over one at Mercedes world a couple of weeks back. I have no problem with the main dashboard screen in front of the driver, but the large iPad type screen plonked on the centre console is just dreadful. It just looks like an afterthought. Just look at the R231 dashboard which is almost identical to the one in the SLS where the screen is very well integrated. That is almost the perfect dashboard with no switches buried in 2 to 3 layers of menus like the cars of today...
The saying old is gold does represent the SL. Hopefully this new generation will be reliable. You may fall to like the screen in the future. It is easy to use but I find the best way to get the full experience is to actually ask the car to do something such as “Hey Mercedes increase temperature to 22 degrees”. Or “switch on heated seats”.
I do agree buttons are easier but it seems less and less buttons will be happening more and more in the future.
@@DrSaahb That is true about using voice control but I think governments will have to enforce regulation on all manufacturers in the future to prevent modern cars ending up in landfill or parked up on some airfield in less than 10 years, due to them not being economical to repair. They can't even be used for spares as each electronic part has its own unique identity code so can't be used as a spare part on another vehicle. Silicon chip manufacturers only produce chips for a very limited time before another one is designed and produced. This means that anything with a computer inside, and a modern car has up to 40 computers inside, stands the chance of the part not being produced in enough numbers to enable the car manufacturer to have enough spares for the life of the car model. Yet another nailing the coffin of these complex modern cars. With the world emphasis on saving the planet, the current way cars are made is completely anti this, and this also includes electric cars. Some of the above is due to the reliance on Asian chip making companies...
Your point is definitely true. I think there is a law where manufacturers do have to be able to make their cars accessible so third party companies can do work on the cars. I am sure there will be a market for aftermarket companies to do repairs because there are many enthusiasts that will want to keep these great cars on the road. Also allot of the technology is shared with other Mercedes models so there will be the option to salvage parts from other models too.
