Pretty cool. I was on a mountain bike near the bluebird lodge/cabins in about 1990. Two bulls up ahead, on the road, herd behind. I went off road, through a creek, up a hill, found another herd. Back down to the road. Just stood there and thanks to a beneficent power, along came a truck towing a hay wagon with visitors. I rode on one side of the wagon while the bulls were on the other side. That was beer worthy. Really cool and great memories.
Until white settlers and the US army chose to attack and destroy any bison they could in mass to sabotage the indigenous people. They slaughtered them in the tens of thousands and left them to rot in the plains. We would have millions still just like deer. Look it up bison were killed in mass to stop the indigenous food source so the natives couldn’t continue thriving

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of that with you it made me feel like I was right there so glad he kept you safe and gave you a bird's-eye view Blessings 🙏🏼to you and thank you for sharing this magnificent herd of bison🐂👍🏼💘
This happened to me some years ago. Coming back from breakfast in Hot Springs, came around the corner, and a whole herd was just crossing in front of me. I was on my KZ 750 with a Kerker exhaust, which is a bit loud...so I shut it down & just sat there. They came by without a problem. Magnificent animals. I love that part of the country.
Wow is right! It looks like you had the bike engine turned off and that you both stayed calm, no fast movements. Maybe that's why they avoided you and were safe. Think I would have needed a pit stop afterwards. The best part is, if people don't believe you, you have the video to prove it. Also you may want to name your bike the "Enterprise", as the shield had to be up.
It is funny but I grew up watching Star Trek but the first thing I think of when I hear "Enterprise" is a Naval ship specifically an aircraft carrier. My father helped build the USS Enterprise CVAN-65 and saw in launch before I was born but he said that the US Navy will always have a ship named the Enterprise. The name "Enterprise" predates that particular vessel of course, so historically speaking, it was a great name for the writers to choose for the space craft. It would be a cool name for a motorcycle. It is unbelievable. They came so close.
No luck whatsoever, and I’m sure they realize that.😉 The Lord absolutely protected them during that incredible experience! “But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.” (Psalm 3:3)
It appeared to be mostly mothers with their calves, Although, I wasn’t there to see it in person ….I did see a lot of calves. That was wise to stay on the bike and not antagonize them.

My wife and I were on the Harley in Yellowstone at 5:00am in the morning riding over to another lodge to get breakfast and it was foggy and still dark. All of a sudden we came up on a herd of buffalo in the road and all around us. We just sat there for a while engine idling and the only thing to do was start walking the bike slowly with the buffalo and then they all started to move with us and go past us and then they all started to run and turned and ran into a field. It was a an experience that raised the hair on your arms.
Wow, it is amazing how well behaved the buffaloes were! Now think of 150-200 yeaes back, when Natives and settlers had to cross herds that counted by the millions!
Yes until the colonial settlers committed mass slaughtering to attempt to sabotage the native Americans way of living, horrific stuff if you dig into the history of buffalo in the US, it’s not by accident they disappeared and it’s not by just “normal hunting” etc. Settlers essentially committed an attempted animal species genocide and were 90% successful. They knew it was the way to destroy the native food source and way of life and so they slaughtered them in mass and left them to rot in the plains
They are vegetarians unlike lions for example. So, you should not expect them to necessarily attack because they are aggressive, having said that-yes, they are natural beasts and very powerful.
Go look at the video of red van impaled at Yellowstone! Went through the door and made a reverse dent on the inside near the locking mechanism! Just like anything else... they will defend themselves and family if feeling threatened.
With that many calves in the herd, you can expect anything. Moms often get over protective of their young, and can imagine threats towards their young. Bulls also can be protective of their "ladies". This couple did the best thing possible by remaining still and calm and quiet. Also do not stare at them, as they can take that as a challenge.
I am so glad you got to see this and were not harmed. We don't have great memories from Custer State Park as that is where we crashed in a hot air balloon. After we crashed, a huge bison came in to check out the balloon. That was about as terrifying as the crash! Thankfully, we were rescued 2 hours later but a grandfather and grandson who ran a helicopter sight seeing business. We are so thankful that our injuries were not fatal.
Good public service video...I am glad you respected the buffalo and the creator who makes all things possible, because in an instant it could have changed terribly..but your prayers saved you and allowed you the opportunity to do good and give sound advice.
Awesome video of these huge buffalo but intense for you knowing you are on motorcycle viewing these huge animals. Glad your ok and i loved the video.sweatin !😳 😥
Thank You! I know we were Not trying to see more “Buffalo” /Bison after seeing so many inside Custer State Park & realizing how much danger we were in being on a motorcycle. Thank you for your kind comment - PS I definitely believe it was an Answer to Prayer! 🦬🙏🏍️
Yeah, this is why I drive a car through the park (well, that and the fact that I don't have a bike). Amazing footage, but I totally sympathize with "I'm scared." I don't see how you could be anything else with a 1000 lb animal running right at you! I'm no expert, but you did what I would have done in your shoes and it all worked out fine, so Good Job! I think it also helps that the herd at Custer State Park deal with vehicles pretty much all the time, so as long as you don't surprise them, they'll treat you like part of the landscape. Last winter we drove through, on to Wind Cave National Park and at the border between the two, we had a couple of buffalo come up and lick the road salt off our car. Phenomenal!
"i prayed to see buffalo" god is amazing to us all . always giving more then you could have asked for. lord we thank you for answering this ladies request by putting her in the middle of a large heard and keping them safe. she will have stories and a video of your gracious kindness bonevolence and warmth forever amen.
Glad you are ok. Also cool you had that experience one many will never have. This is the result of proper wildlife management. Roads taken over by bison. Thank God for buffalo bill calling for the protection of the last 500. Came really close to extinction.
Had this happen to me 2(?) years ago. Shut down & sat very quietly until they passed by. The next day, some woman thought it would be good idea to take pictures of a baby. Got between momma & the calf. Momma flipped her in the air, tearing her pants off, & put her in the hospital. I think the video is on here someplace.
I was in Yellowstone Park on a snowmobile about 30 odd years ago...another female friend was also touring with me and we had a guide on their snowmobile...we went right by the Bison but my snowmobile went off the road into the ditch right by them. I had been told they were not dangerous but I sure felt insecure, my friend stopped her vehicle and helped me drag mine out of the ditch and off we went....this was b4 I ever heard about any of them mauling people....I guess we were both in a bit of danger and I thank God I had such a generous companion who helped me despite the risk to herself!
I was holding my breath the whole video.. oh my goodness. The sound of their hooves were amazing. So glad you were calm. What a moment. You literally were in a life and death situation there. They are so unpredictable. 🙏
wow that’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that you’s have received and so be thankful that the buffalo allowed you to be that close to them as it’s always an honor when animal allows any human being to be that close to them in their own habitat!! ❤️❤️💯❤️❤️
Awesome video, my wife and I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota 23 miles from Custer. We have come across a lot of Bison on our bikes but not that many. Are scariest event happened in Yellowstone a sow and her three cubs were coming straight at us down the middle of the road in a full blown traffic jam. With nowhere to go we did the same thing, turned our engines off, prayed and remained calm as we could. When she got within two vehicles away she went off to the shoulder of the road and up the hill into the trees. I was definitely scared at what could have happened.
The Buffalo are a people of their word unlike the us government. keeping the peace treaty is just something they strive for. And everyone knows the buffalo is a motorcycle fanatic especially the Indian brand. Respect.
Honestly, as someone that has studied animal behaviors for years... You did everything almost perfectly. GOOD FREAKING JOB. "don't look at them" is spot on. Maybe be a little less noisy, This video made my day. Thank you

This is the most awesome video ever. I love Buffalo s they are the most majestic animals ever.
I was holding my breath the whole time I’m glad you guys are safe
I treasure hearing you praise the Lord and pray on the video. 😍
You guys were awesome. Thank you Lord, keep us safe. Beautiful.
Was praying with you guys..even though in the past. God is Absolutely Good
I am so glad you got to see this and were not harmed.
James don’t look at them, don’t stare at them!!
Love this
Awesome video of these huge buffalo but intense for you knowing you are on motorcycle viewing these huge animals. Glad your ok and i loved the video.sweatin !😳 😥
WILD sTuff right there! Glad y’all walked away safe
Wow again! I had to watch again.
I wonder what the Buffalo were thinking lol
I imagine they were thinking that is a very large ugly two headed animal, but it appears to be minding its own business so we can leave it alone.
@@Kaththee Lol!
We did Yellowstone on our bike and experienced a similar situation...very unnerving, but thankful the Buffalo were used to traffic...
Thank You! I know we were Not trying to see more “Buffalo” /Bison after seeing so many inside Custer State Park & realizing how much danger we were in being on a motorcycle. Thank you for your kind comment -
PS I definitely believe it was an Answer to
Prayer!
Wow!!!! When I get to finally experience that, I hope my 360 camera captures it all. You two were amazingly blessed.
Were you on Wildlife Loop Road?
That's awesome! I loved the video! The bison being that close had to be awe inspiring.
Great close-up, non-interfering video! Ty! Very interesting to see!
LOL she's praying 🤣😂😂 I'd be at the top of a tree!!!
Oh my gosh that would be scary and yet so cool at the same time.
Wow!! That was So Awesome. Buffalo are very Impressive and Majestic Creatures!! 😍 🦬💞🦬
This happened to us when we were in our car and it was intimidating! On our motorcycle??? I'd have been completely terrified.
This was awesome!!!
I held my breath for the whole video. 🤪
Glad you two weren't hurt!
If you stay calm & don't do anything they will leave you be. I knew this growing up here in South Dakota, you give them respect & their space.
Incredible! Buffalo thanks you for your respect 💕
Thank You Lord is 100% correct!🙏🤯
Park officials always say to stay 25 yards away and not approach the bison.....they forgot to tell the bison not to approach people.😆
:-)
Awesome video, my wife and I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota 23 miles from Custer. We have come across a lot of Bison on our bikes but not that many. Are scariest event happened in Yellowstone a sow and her three cubs were coming straight at us down the middle of the road in a full blown traffic jam. With nowhere to go we did the same thing, turned our engines off, prayed and remained calm as we could. When she got within two vehicles away she went off to the shoulder of the road and up the hill into the trees. I was definitely scared at what could have happened.
You guys played it very cool and calm! Well done! You got a front row seat to a part of Americana!
Thank you
Same thing happened to us in Yellowstone / road was blocked for hrs . One Buffalo cam up to the car & rocked us rather roughly ; that was scary !
That was Amazing to see. So glad you are safe and shared.
What a great video. Beautiful. You did great staying calm.
What an amazing thing thanks for sharing and I agree beautiful amazing experiance
Wow! What an awesome experience! God is good! He sent you bison and no one got hurt! I have to check this park out.
Just amazing!! I’m glad I’m not the only one who prays like that!! 😂😂😂
Yeah
Be careful what you pray for !
Thanks for sharing that Outstanding video.
And yes , I am thankful you were not harmed .
Seems like some of the most Beautiful and exciting things in nature can be dangerous.
But applying a little common sense and selfcontrol we can still enjoy everything nature has to offer 👍
Prayers that you were not hurt. Wow close one
