I really love this truck. I just hope they go the distance and can ramp up production without sacrificing quality to get their foot in the market. I hope to see them in the UK soon. Electric cars need to start major R&D into weight saving however.
Unfortunately it’s too heavy to come to the uk. Weighing 3100kg means you would be over the legal limit with 5 passengers. It also means with just one person the cargo weight would max out at 320kg, which is utter shite tbh.
They have to prioritize charging speed and charging infrastructure first. Then they can worry about weight saving. Though admittedly I don't know how charging in the UK compares to here in the US. Here in the US it's really bad still. It's getting better, but unless you live in SF or LA, which I live very close to SF, you're not guaranteed to find good charging or reliable charging. On top of that, you're not really able to charge while towing unless you find a station on the side of the street or have tons of space at your house or apartment building. Rollout is used because that's how the two timing beams at a dragstrip work (one foot apart, second beam must be cleared before clocks start). Before people had GPS/accelerometer based timing equipment, the only way to get proper accel measurement was at your local dragstrip. So car magazines kept the roll-out for 1/4 mile figures for consistency, and also applied it to all other standing start acceleration even after they no longer needed the drag strip. So, not marketing....

first time I would chose another brands product over a Tesla. Lucid Air is another candidate for that. Hope they deliver in big delivery numbers and will build more models in the future!
This vehicle is fantastic. I just hope they stick it out and are able to increase production without losing quality in order to get a foothold in the market. I'm hoping to see them in the United Kingdom shortly. However, considerable research and development into weight reduction is required for electric vehicles.
This is actually such a cool pick up! I had this sort if thing in my head when Tesla said they were making a truck. Rivian done a really good job here.
What's cool about the cubby behind the cab, is that many 1930s American luxury cars (such as Packard) had a similar compartment; i was once told that they were used to carry golfing equipment.
As someone who has driven trucks a lot of my life I was super surprised by its towing capacity being 5000kg, super impressive! but think I would have liked to know how much the battery life depreciates once you start towing! as anyone who tows with a truck can attest to, your petrol gage does tend to take a little bit of a hit when your towing something like a caravan, horses, etc. If the battery life was to stay pretty consistent to its normal everyday range when towing then It's definitely something I would consider buying, but I have a feeling it would take a massive hit to the battery life, which is the only reason as to why I would avoid it and stick to a Deisel truck. Other than that really good video and an awesome look into what truck companies may be getting into in the future. amazing job from Rivian building this truck!
Battery range is not battery life, you mixed them up. It all depends how often and how long you have to tow. For a lot of people it will be fine. But going on holiday with it will require quite some planning. Still possible though.
Love this vehicle. Sadly, the Saturday visit to the supermarket will be a nightmare in the UK. Our roads are so bad for this type of machine. Do love it though!

After this review, I am sure Rivian will now add the Pillar handle to assist getting in at the Passanger side. Matt, was I suppose the only one to point out the obvious.
I literally watched two seconds of this video and am already loving it. Matt smashing it as always 😂
seems like an incredible vehicle that will be hugely successful, however the touchscreen nonsense bothers me greatly
I really do not like having to use a display for the simplest changes, much rather have physical buttons.
Never wanted a car like this one so bad 🙄 Love it
I remember seeing this in action on the TV series Long Way Up which is well worth watching.
Watching the stuff animal attack you is the most laughter I had since I've seen yanny on, this truck is awesome, great content 👍🏾
I'm not a really big fan of EVs, but I have to admit: This is my favorit. An awesome car!
Damn...I love these new, EV startups.
Tesla, Rivian, Lucid.
They are REALLY shaking up the auto business.
Mat hit the ground pretty hard with that dog 😂
Wow... wow... WOW.... I've seen this car around in pictures, but wow. This is absolutely amazing... All those extra's and features, absolutely amazing. I haven't been this impressed by a car in a long long time. WOW.
Unfortunately, it doesn't have a glove box, so it's a no for me.
Ewan & Charlie had Rivian trucks as back up in South America. Good to see them in mainstream production. Cool truck!!
One other thing we've might realized, the "proving ground" looks very much similar to what Mr. (James) May drove on when racing a Range Rover against TerraMax Autonomous Truck
Completely outclasses the Cybertruck imo ~ for one thing it isn’t absolutely hideous 😂
Front looks like a piggy
@@gypsyemperor7535 yeah just like yourself i am afraid
@@ghq8982 lmao
Nobody will buy the cyber truck, it's hideous. Whereas the Rivian at least looks useable.
@@sweetfreedomGB the front looked like Nissan Pickup.
great job carwow you finnaly put up a pop up banner after so long of matt just point into the air with nothing in return
I am very happy and love to see more pop up banner
again great job
I love your offroad, 5 annoying and interesting things, and drag race videos the most! Hope one day you'll cover a Subaru Forester or Outback!
Really looking forward to seeing videos of the SUV version! Won’t have that gear tunnel… but I am expecting a pretty huge trunk.
I’m a huge Tesla fan, and I can see they took a LOT of inspiration from Tesla with this. I really like though that there are some awesome original ideas. Looks like a really nice truck. I actually saw one on the road a week ago
Besides it being an EV, I’m curious what about the R1T is inspired from a Tesla.
@@MarTin-ku4lx The 2170 based Skateboard architecture. Weirdly specific copy. Which Rivian does not want to talk about.
@@Neojhun The screens and dashboard layout, how some of the software looks, not having dealerships, planning to introduce their own charging network and car insurance...
Matt you are hilarious, particularly in this one. Great video and informative , I want your job. Rivian needs to bring it over here ASAP. Love this truck. I want one.
This is probably the only American car made in the past 5 decades that I'd consider buying. Looks amazing!
I work at Rivian brings me a lot of joy to see things like this
That dog biting part was amazing 😂😂😂
Been waiting a long time for this one! Think this could be a huge seller 👌
That German Shepard bit had me rolling from the first growl. WASTED - Love a good GTA reference too, so well played.
first time I would chose another brands product over a Tesla. Lucid Air is another candidate for that. Hope they deliver in big delivery numbers and will build more models in the future!
Rivian building 7 a week.
And u would be making a huge mistake
Jeff bezos is no elon musk....
I personally don't trust these brands, Tesla and etc are all tech companies, the quality of the car is normally questionable
That Lucid looks good
Some time ago people would go nuts when Hummer announced the prices for their new truck. Not a surprise anymore with all these new BEV trucks.
This vehicle is fantastic. I just hope they stick it out and are able to increase production without losing quality in order to get a foothold in the market. I'm hoping to see them in the United Kingdom shortly. However, considerable research and development into weight reduction is required for electric vehicles.
Doug does the in-depth, Matt does the 0-60. Best combo!
DRUG Demuro uses Cocaine .
Towing a trailer with a mid-sized car on it, 100 miles between charges from Chicago to Los Angeles. Sticking to diesel for now as well.
@@supportone9928 sadly, sounds nearly useless as an actual tow rig.
@@kc510 Yeah TFL just tested it and the battery was dropping like a rock.
Battery range is not battery life, you mixed them up.
It all depends how often and how long you have to tow. For a lot of people it will be fine. But going on holiday with it will require quite some planning. Still possible though.
This is a nice damn truck ❤️
09:01 was the best part of the video.
This is the lifestyle pickup the UK wants. Purpose built for overlanding with amazing and unique features. Id buy one
RIVIAN cant be sold in UK or EU, its ILLEGAL .

Love this vehicle. Sadly, the Saturday visit to the supermarket will be a nightmare in the UK. Our roads are so bad for this type of machine. Do love it though!
"Our roads are so bad." Period.
@@SlonopotamIII Why would the roads be so bad in the UK? Don't understand. You mean they are rutted and rough? This Rivian is an off-road vehicle and can handle it, I would suppose?
@@troutguyCO Our roads are relatively small and narrow.
Light color interior looks amazingly nice and luxurious!😎
Very modern looks, we need to see this on some proper off-roading next, nice job Matt
WOW, i'm really impressed by this truck, normally i'm not a big fan of electric vehicles but this one really convinced me. I hope they will sell these in Europe too in the future.
There are rumours of a UK factory so I would say that it’s likely to some extent that they will sell them here and possibly even manufacture in Europe.
@@Horizon301. Yes I think those are only fanboy rumours tho, but Rivan have not committed to it, and there will not be any RHD made in existing factory so I expect it will be 2025 before RHD appears
@@reubenmitchell5269 Boris Johnson has written to the CEO and is lobbying for the investment along with Bezos so it’s a pretty logical rumour, whether or not it goes ahead is another story though. It would be a 1 billion investment so it’s a big decision, incentives are being offered such as quick planning etc
