    I recently switch to synthetic oil. It cost me a lot of money for a simple oil change. I am really NOT manual. This clip made it very clear for me how to do it myself. I loved it!. Thank you

    Great video. Looks like it covers all the minor but VERY IMPORTANT details. Too many DIY videos skip a lot of minor issues that can cause major frustration or even equipment damage and personal injury.

    This is an awesome video. Thank you. Our Nissan Altima got flooded in Houston, so we had to get a new used car. We got a Kia Sorento and are very, very impressed. I wanted a Nissan Murano, but the Sorento is cheaper and equivalent (IMHO). So, thanks for showing me how to change the oil for the first time. I'll do it tomorrow. You made me believe that I can do it !!!

    Bought a 2015 Kia Sorento used. I went to change the oil filter and it was stuck on really good. I was scared to break it and checked a Kia forum. People were actually cutting the things off, hahaha. I grabbed my trusty 24 inch breaker bar and she came off no problem. So,yey,if that happens to you don't cut it off;buy a breaker bar and use the correct socket just like the by chap in the video, even if you have to buy or rent it. It'll save you a world of trouble.

      I'm not sure what kind plastic like material it's made out of but it's pretty tough. I certainly would have liked a metal lid and canister instead, but the plastic works and is lighter (and less costly). Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

    This was a very helpful video that I come back to watch before each oil change, but two important things: 1) He mentions using a torque of 25.8 ft-lbs for the oil filter cover cap, but this is *wrong.* The service manually states it should be torqued to >> 8.7 ~ 11.6 lbf-ft

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  2 роки тому +1

      I verified the torque values were correct for the 3.3L V6 and they are. The value you are quoting is for a spin on metal filter for a 4 cylinder. I put the oil in until the dipstick shows at the full line. I may have not had a full jug or full bottles no idea but I don't go by the amount I trust the dipstick. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

    Good video Richard, only thing to add is I would start the engine before putting the engine cover back on to check for leaks at the filter cap.
    Even though you used a torque wrench, there could still be a crack or o-ring not sealed properly for several reasons.

    Nice video, clear and concise. I like the the oil filter canister that drains into the pan instead of your face, how clever is that!

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  7 років тому +2

      Thank you very much. Yes, I agree the top mounted canister filter makes for a much cleaner oil change procedure. Plus you get to see the state of the oil filter. On the metal encased filter you can't really see how dirty it is. All the best.

    Great video! Definitely saved me some future frustration; it'd have taken me forever to find the oil filter.
    Question: Any idea of the size socket needed for the lug nuts?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  7 років тому +2

      Thank you very much. You can use a 21mm socket (I use a deep 1/2 impact socket) on the lug nuts or you if you have an imperial 13/16 " that will work too. BTW the torque value on the nuts is 65~79 lb·ft (9~11 kg·m) I use 79 lb-ft. All the best.

    Are you freaking kidding me! The filter is at the top??? I assumed (there was my problem!) That it was under the car like my Ford Expo. And so I thought I might get it done else where since I am still paying it. But damn! I will do it myself tomorrow!!! Thank you. Also I have changed my oil on the Ford, and Army vehicles.... Just FYI 😉

      +Dennis King I had changed it a week before as a flush. I bought the vehicle used and you never know what they were running and how much dirt had accumulated so I filled it new and ran for a week and this was the final fill. Thanks.

    • @trunxgp1224
      @trunxgp1224 8 років тому

      +Richard Lloyd makes much more sense. I went and looked at some of your other videos and questioned your ATF flush at 5k also. I could understand changing after you first got it but after another 5k, why?
      You would be better off taking oil and ATF samples when you first got the car and changed the fluids. This way you know exactly what was goin on with the car and whether another change a week later was warranted, or in the case of the ATF draining every 5k

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  8 років тому +1

      +Dennis King I buy my vehicles used and I like to get the fluids back to day one as soon as possible after I get them. I now change the transmission fluid every 5000 miles until it looks near new then dial it back to every 15,000 or as needed. Basically I am cleaning the transmission using the fluid. This works really nicely and is far more effective than the short interval I was doing before. But you live and you learn. I did this on my KIA Sorento and I figure the next drain and fill will bring the fluid to almost new. Yes I am OCD about fluids. Dirt removal and clean fluids are key to long engine life as far as I am concerned they are well worth the investment. Thanks again.

    3.
    Remove the oil filter with the SST(09263-2E000, the oil filter wrench).
    (1)
    Remove the oil filter.
    (2)
    Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.
    (3)
    Check the part number of the new oil filter is as same as old one.
    (4)
    Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.
    (5)
    Lightly screw the oil filter into place, and tighten it until the gasket contacts the seat.
    (6)
    Tighten it with the torque below.
    Tightening torque :
    11.8 ~ 15.7 N.m (1.2 ~ 1.6 kgf.m, 8.7 ~ 11.6 lb-ft)
    not to dispute but I found this info for the filter cap,www.ksmanual.com/engine_oil_oil_and_filter_replacement-292.html

    I was told by my Kia dealer that if I didn't have an 'electronic receipt' for my oil changes, it would void the warrantee?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  7 років тому +2

      I find that a doubtful statement. BTW how do they define an "electronic receipt"? Every paper receipt I have was printed by an electronic printer. I also photograph the receipt with my "electronic camera" next to the odometer the day of the service too for proof. Call KIA corporate if you are really concerned about it but I was always told just keep the receipts. Thanks.

      +bmwnasher Good eye. LOL. Yes that is an "el cheapo" wrench I bought years ago when I was in a pinch and needed a ratchet to do a job. I have been trying to ruin it ever since but it refuses to die. Looking forward to replacing it with a composite ratchet in the near future. www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-inch-heavy-duty-composite-ratchet-66314.html BTW I recently bought a 18 Volt 1/4 in. Cordless Variable Speed Hex Impact Driver www.harborfreight.com/18-volt-14-in-cordless-variable-speed-hex-impact-driver-62421.html and believe it or not with a 1/2 inch adapter it will take the lug nuts off my wheels that are torqued to 78 ft-lbs. I was absolutely amazed when I tried it as I thought it would never do it. It made quick work of it. It so impressed me that I believe I will make a video on how well it worked. Thanks again.
