What’s the name of the filter?
Anyone here former U.S. Navy? If so, do you remember those green canisters we wore during gas mask drills for fires. You like pulled a tab and the contents inside the canister, do to chemical reaction, created it's own oxygen...that's what I want...but I never see those discussed or being used outside of my short stint in the Navy years ago.
I know similar kind of rebreathers but they're old yet they probably function on similar basis. Interested to learn more so hopefully someone will give us answers.
@@cbrnacademy The Navy had hundreds of 1000's, maybe millions, of these unused oxygen generating canisters...they had so many that we'd activate them during drills, just to go through them and throw them away with plenty use time left. I was younger, didn't take training as seriously as I do now (Or survival) But had I known then what I know now, I'd of kept track of those supply chains. Those oxygen generating canisters worked, and were about the size of a water canteen, and cheap to make. I wonder what they're using now? I'll do some prying...lol
In the Navy, who here was in the Navy long ago? Remember those green canister type of oxygen generating containers we wore during drills. It's like a chemical reaction created oxygen. That's what I want, not sure if they even still make those. I've been out the Navy for a while, do they still use those or did they upgrade? Never mind, don't answer that, probably top secret...lol
Normally Evirstar Defence Products (American reseller) have the anti fog lenses and aren’t often deformed and actually work!
Since the company is not existent anymore, I'm interested what price they were selling these for. Still, a big time shady operation - repacking useless Soviet junk, really nice business model.
@@cbrnacademy yeah, idk if in your country eBay is available but I have found many good places
Does the fm53 microphone work with the c50 ok
We did try it but because we didn't film it due to a mistake, that part isn't included in this video unfortunately. But here's an excerpt from the script: "Using the FM53 mic with C50 resulted in rather good quality voice output, certainly less distorted as was the case with the original C50 microphone. "
Thank u for your reply many thanks we blessed with your videos
Are the black filters it comes with original and have asbestos, cause I’ve seen the green ones that have asbestos but Idk if the black Are original I have another newer gas mask that came with the same ones
If they are green, metal, and have Russian writing, they are the old ones. If not, they are modern.
We bought the black contemporary one separately of course. GP-5 came only with the green metal one.
Would you be kind enough to make a video bout gas masks for modern time prepper? Like present some cheap realiable - worth buying examples.
It's a great idea of course yet there are way too many factors to consider apart from respirators themselves. Like the country you live in and hence availability so we would have to limit the topic to specific regions. And of course I would have to get certain masks myself for testing like M40 or the Israeli Black diamond and many others. We'll put this topic on our list and we'll see what we can do about it.
@@cbrnacademy Because we're neighbors (I live in Poland) I'll let myself suggest our region of Europe for such video. 😅
Hello! Love your videos, and I have a question about filters. I have a 2 filters. (AVEC NBC-3/SL M and OF-07 M). I know what the letters in the ABEK system mean, but both of these filters have protection from something labelled 'SX'. What exactly does SX mean in this system?
Hi there, the SX label means "substance as specified by the manufacturer" so there should be a disclosure what substance the filter provides additional protection from. In case of my filters marked with SX, they provide added protection against phosgene gas. Again, the exact information needs to be disclosed by the manufacturer either on the filter label or in some kind of user manual. For more information and downloadable table with all the letters explanation, check out our tutorial on gas mask filters.
@@cbrnacademy Thanks for the info!
Considering the Soviet Union made 100million plus, one for just about every man and woman in the country, it is a rather basic but functional design. It is still being issued to training units in Russia. Oh and about the asbestos issue, yeah, filters have 3-13% asbestos in the paper lower level, yeah there's a bit of a danger but if you have to use one of these, asbestos is your least worry. You can get more modern filter which I recommend if you need to use this often. These aren't the best of modern but they are cheap and will get the job done if ever needed.
Can you make a vid cleaning the simplex black diamond civilian gas mask
these instructions are universal, just clean your gas mask the same way I did in the video.
GSR/FRR VPU breaks very easily, I have two, and both of them are broken within one month time, which does not happen on the C50 VPU.
Since you mentioned this under a different video before, I asked a few people that used the VPU at their work and no one had a similar experience. I own the VPU for more than a year now and I use it regularly - no malfunction yet.
With what i have access to in the US market what would you suggest for a good quality gas mask?
Generally speaking, you can't go wrong with Avon C50. It was one of the first respirators we reviewed and we still consider it unmatched for many reasons. Watch the review to find out more.
@@cbrnacademy i appreciate the response I will definitely look into it
Let us know in the comment section what lines you would like to hear me saying through a VPU of your choice in our next release!
Luke i am your father 😂.
It's not a coincidence that it's the most watched short video of ours, especially on TikTok
Bro its filter is actually safe. You can use it and it doesn't have expiration date
Was safe*, after a while the asbestos degrades therefore you inhale asbestos, plus the filter is practical useless since the activated carbon isnt activated anymore.
@@linearswitchguy95931, the asbestos is a compound. Therefore it will only release if damaged, and the amount of asbestos is less then what most people breathe in their lifetime (some late ones don’t even have asbestos, 2. Yes, most have been deactivated, however, there are still some late made ones that can still be effective
When?
this weekend, it's set
Any link on were I can get these from many thanks
Any idea where I can get a voice unit for a GSR/FRR?
I once saw a GP-5 for 6.95€ for sale in Varusteleka. too bad they're army surplus so i never know when they are in stock
Just received this mask and stupidly I didn't realize that the entire thing being made of rubber meant it would stick to my hair easily. Putting this damn thing on felt like it was ripping my hair and scalp off
This is a great point I should have had included in the review, but sometimes I forget other people have hair unlike me. Bald people have it easier when it comes to donning but some folk with sensitive skin can develop rash rather quickly while wearing the GP-5, sometimes after just a few minutes.
Hi. I wanna ask if its ok to wear it without the filter.
Hi there! No problem whatsoever, given the inside of the facepiece is clean of course.
For some reason, this is one of the most watched videos on our channel. Now I’m not sure how many of you will be surprised when I say it wasn’t a review at all, just an April Fools' Day joke. We made however a serious review of the GP-5 gas mask as well: ua-cam.com/video/_9gIATljFa4/v-deo.html
“No, I am your father” Mandela effect be like
Part of polish version of the GP-5 gas mask (MUA) has voice diafragm. And no: you must not use such old gas masks, even with a new, well-fitted filter. The reason is the lack of certainty that the rubber non-return valves of the gas mask are functional. In this mask, they are made of thin rubber, which after years of disuse and lack of maintenance may not have the original elasticity and will not provide the mask with a proper seal. Now all such old masks (not only GP-5, but also, for example, M-65) should not be used if they are (too) old and have been stored incorrectly, because in combat conditions this can be dangerous.
I wonder if you can wear glasses with this, it dose cover your ears, ergo the arms of your glasses. As for the asbestos filter, if its the only filter around and if you are at the point where you need this thing, I doubt you will be too picky, or will live long enough to car about asbestos exposure ( I'd be the least of your worrys!).
You can't wear traditional glasses and this gas mask. However, there were special plastic inserts that allowed you to use corrective lenses. Regarding asbestos filters, I agree with your statement.
I checked the original manual and there was no mention of any sort of optical inserts so if you need glasses just to see a thing, bad luck. Your have a point about the filter in case of having nothing else available but again in my videos I can't leave a room for such scenario as people would automatically think it's OK to use it so I rather say don't use it at all. As I said, it's not about asbestos only, it's mainly about the fact these filters are useless at this point. Better than nothing? Sure. Should you use it? No, but in the end it's up to you to decide for yourself. You're on your own. 😎
Is the m10m still in production? I heard somewhere that they still make them. My family is in the army surplus business and I’m always surprised to see our suppliers restock on hundreds of these masks at a time.
Nope, they are long time discontinued. M-10Ms were made by Gumárny Zubří - the company which currently makes OM-90, CM-6M and OM-2020 respirators. The reason why you can get them in such quantities is simply because there are still many in existence, especially in Central Europe. They cost next to nothing, mainly because they are borderline useless.
@@cbrnacademythank you for answering my questions. I like to use an m10m because it’s cheap and I go shooting with it to make it more challenging
Is the OM-90 compatible with the radio attachments from Mira safety?
No idea. I don't consider MIRA's third-party gadgets relevant but if someone sends us stuff for testing and reviewing, we wouldn't say no.
Are you able to clear the gas mask? What I mean is in Bootcamp you are taught to put your mask on and then cover the exhaust with your hand and blow air out to get rid of the contaminated air inside the mask. Based on the looks of its design it looks like you are unable to clear the mask like many Soviet gas masks.
A very good point, so let me explain! When you watch our tutorial on how to use a gas mask, or any gas mask review of ours, I always tell people to exhale sharply after donning, which is a way of clearing. The reason is that many gas masks don't have the exhalation chamber located the way Avon masks do, so in many cases it's not as easy to cover it effectively. That's why I'm always doing clearing the way I do to show people a more universal method. It's not something I made up, it's a regular clearing procedure in many armies that use other than Avon respirators.
@@cbrnacademy thank you
How did you get one of those? I saw that in order to get the mask from the official store you had to be a cop or have some sort of military background?
You can get the FM50/C50 and FM54 respirators in the US without any issue from Avon's e-shop. No clue when it comes to FM53 however. Didn't I mention I got if from one of our supporters in the video?
How come we never got the vpu comparison video?
We are still going to release it, however now we wait for additional devices to test along the three we currently have.
Will this prevent the rubber from getting that sticky texture?
No. That's more of a proper storage thing and in case of many respirators you can't do anything about it as some composites were not built to last. What kind of respirator you have in mind? In case of Avon C50 and FM12, the rubber is very durable and never becomes sticky, at least in case of mine.
@@cbrnacademy thank you for the info. I have an Avon M50. I store it in its bag, inside a pelican case, inside a climate controlled room. 2 months ago I cleaned it. I pulled it out again recently and notice a light sticky texture to some areas. Is it possible that’s a result of the mask not being fully dry when I stored it? I was able to wipe the sticky texture off.
Can you make an review on the MP5 Polish Gasmask, it would be great to see a video review on ur Channel
Just say you hate me and want to see me suffer, haha. The MP5 makes OM-90 look like a solid respirator in comparison. But it's a reasonable enough request so we might do it once that plastic abomination crosses me again.
The MP-5 gas mask is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. It is stiff as a cat's tail, uncomfortable, difficult to fit. After an hour of wearing it, a ditch appears on the forehead that does not disappear for the next 48 hours and you have to explain to everyone that it is not from hitting a table. In addition, after a short time the glass of this mask becomes cloudy and yellow. The MP-5 is a licensed version of the French ARFA mask. I really do not know why such a terrible product was purchased. In Poland, the MP-5 mask is now being replaced with the MP-6 mask, which is light, ergonomic, has low breathing resistance, is comfortable and can be easily adjusted to the head.
where should you get filters?
I think another good filter option is the random Chinese filters you find on amazon but only because they more then likely don't have asbestos
I mean if you ever have to use a gasmask I doubt you will be too picky to care if it contains asbestos. Besides it's doubtfull you will live long enough to care about the risks of asbestos exposure
Random chinese filters.... have you heard what you have said?
唐丰/普达 filters are quite trustworthy, two of the biggest brands in China.
