Zygrene I have a 92 si hatch Civic with the D16. Not fast but I still can hit 190 kmh easily in er, and she’s just shy of 400 000 kms,a couple more weeks and it’ll roll over, super reliable too, that’s why I use it to do pipeline work in Alberta and British Columbia in the winter, always starts even at -40 c with no block heater or anything 🚗❄️. Don’t need no jacked up expensive truck when I have this.
Hello Bye He driving other people's car is not unique. Just ask people to let you drive their cars and film it , and boom there you go more smoking tire style vehicles
Who knows, lack of regulation back then, probably some sort of loophole that made crash testing not required for the CRX, or something along those lines.
Awesome car. My first car was a 1985 base CRX. Bought it in1989, was my daily driver until 2006. It finally just rusted out on me. Found a very clean 1990 CRX Si on eBay in 2009, no rust, no modifications, I will keep it forever. Love these cars.
Had an 89 CRX dx model, it was white also. Had the D15B2 in it with a 5 speed. I always dreamt about the B16 swaps but never did it. That car lasted 386,000 miles and i beat the hell out of it all the time. I miss it. I also owned a 88 Civic Hatch, 300,000+ miles too. Current daily is 88 MR2 with 134k miles. Learn to wrench kids. Have had the MR2 for over nine years. Most reliable car I ever owned. Second were my two Honda's, third were my two Subaru 4x4 wagons and lastly my 84 Datsun 180. Buy an old fun car, (maybe not as old as these are beginning to get rare. Leave the 80 and 90 for me, okay. Thanks!) break it, fix it and break it again. Learn, drive and have fun!
This. I bought my 94 Integra GSR in 2001 with 88K miles on it, and it now has 361K miles on it. I've done everything on that car the past 16+ years. Still on the original engine and gearbox.
Reading this gives me hope for my poor Subaru wagon. She hasn't been too well taken care of, but runs just fine at 276k miles. Needs new clutch and suspension, but runs fine. I just wish I had the money to really work on her.
Love the CRX! We wanted a coupe for our next build, couldn't find a clean non rusted out CRX in the area but found a clean Del Sol. Just ordered a K24 that'll be going in and eventually boosted!
Once I started doing autocross and dipping my foot into the track world I've gained ton of love for little lightweight Hondas. Used to be a Honda hater (as a performance car at least) and now I might be starting a chump car team with some friends using an RSX.
I've always wanted one of those, but it just never happened. Lovely looking thing, and the owner clearly has done great work setting it up. You can easily see how much better behaved it is, compared to the one parked right next to it. I hope those two guys had a chat about suspension :) ..and man i'm gonna miss this series. i get why it has to die, but it's always fun to see what the car of the day is :)
Had a CRX HF , wish I would never let it go. Get you to the mountain up the mountain and back to the beach on one tank taking the tightest line and nailing every apex. Straight up go kart for the road.
I have the hatch version of this car (EF Civic), in mint condition. Putting in a turbo engine this winter, which should be good for about 180hp. If 150 is as much fun as Matt says it is, 180 should be a RIDONCULOUS amount of fun. Can't wait!
I almost bought a heavily modified Si way back in the day with all the 90’s graphics. Had extensive suspension work and engine work done. Not sure which motor it had. And it’s steering was like a go kart (not sure what’s up with this one). I always said that it was the quickest car I’ve ever driven. No where close to the fastest. It was just so responsive, toss-able, and provided so much driver feedback. Super fun.
One takes have been part of my almost daily routine for so long. Just updating the sub box waiting for it. Going to be strange to lose it, but hopefully you make something exciting for yourself and us Matt ;)
This is basically the one car that got me into Hondas,my buddy had a 91 crx si and he would seriously beat on the car and it wouldn’t die, when he was building golf courses,he would jump the car over the greens, fly as fast as he could in reverse while getting air, pull Rockford’s at over 100 kmh on the highway, it was just crazy what we would do to it and it never broke down. I started buying Hondas after that,I have a 92 si hatch,a near mint 01 Prelude 5 speed, with leather and a 05 Acura TL Still see crxs and lots of eg hatches here on Vancouver island, gonna find another project to buy. 🚗
Damn Matt Im gonna miss these one takes. I know you are moving on to better things but I'm gonna miss these. Love your podcasts but hopefully you'll knock off a few one takes every now and then. Best wishes
Nice CRX, I have to get mine on here, fun really starts with 200whp in a CRX. The sound of a honda without vtec popping is just not right, its like I'm stuck holding my breath waiting for something thats not coming!!
In many ways cars like this and the similar vintage Civics and Integras put Honda on the map as a performance brand. They're like eager puppies you can play hard with and they keep coming back begging for more. Their wasn't much that could make you smile as much, keep up on a twisty road or autocross course, or put up with as much abuse, for the price back then. While the current Civic Si and Type R perform fairly well they look like Honda hired the lead Prius designer who became a drug addict and otherwise seem designed by a misguided committee. Honda has never equaled their superiority from 2+ decades ago. It's fun to be reminded of how fundamentally great their cars once were.
matt you could do a one take car showdown get people who have been on one takes to bring them mad tuner cars down for a track day,it would be a great send off for an awesome series, pit the times against new sports cars just to show how good some of these lads are,get some of the morning dump crowd as spectators haha would be good man
peteyification He driving other people's car is not unique. Just ask people to let you drive their car and film it , and boom there you go more smoking tire style vehicles. He's not the only knowledgeable person about cars.
These cars are fun I own a 2002 RSX 5peed base model. With full bolt ons and a K20z1 head and cam swap with Hondata V4, fuel pump, injectors, type s oil pump plus stg 3 clutch, prolite 10.5lbs flywheel. Has type s front brakes conversion with 17/235 wheels. Put down 215whp and 168fptq. It surprises alot of 350z, wrx
I know, It was a bitch to find a clean CRX here in South Africa but i found one, Stock red had a B16A in (which they sold them here in South Africa as at that time). Swapped it with a k24 block and k20 vtec head but now i need Hondata for the tune.
He driving other people's car is not unique. Just ask people to let you drive their car and film it , and boom there you go more smoking tire style vehicles
zoom zoom ND it is not so simple, first You have to have a lots of friends with interesting cars and good roads without police. Try to do it - You have my sub.
I'm really gunna miss these, dude. I looked forward to One Takes every morning. Could you like...do One Takes on very special cars you've yet to drive? Do it like once a week, maybe on Fridays. That'd be a lot better than just getting rid of them altogether.
Its a strange conversion to my mind, because the B16a makes the same power and of course pretty much drops in as it was an option with the car. Of course its completely up to the owner, its definitely more unique than a B16 would be.
Hi comp B20s are the best swap you can get without breaking the bank and still make considerable power being non vtec. You’ll get off the line quicker than a b18, b16 or a gsr because of the low end torque you get with this motor. Very ahh how should I say “beating tolerable” motor get you a nice 4-2-1 header, exhaust system, and a chipped p28 nice fun daily.
Sergio Aguirre yea he must be smokin cuz a stock ls fully gutted crx beat me at englishtown over the summer. You put some vtec in that shell your flying
as always great vid, massive fan, how about from now on at the start of one takes you take 2 min with the owner to do a tech walk round of the cars ? that would be great, cheers
Almost had a 90 si for 4k in 97. I was working two jobs and my parents refused to co sign. Ended up with a geo storm GSI . It smoked Civics all day. I regret never getting that CRX though.
Had an 89 dx with less than 100k back in 2001. Ran the car till 2009 with nothing but a clutch install and wish I had never sold it. Got over 30 mpg where 5 bucks gas went all week long.
There is a cable running to that transmission so that means it's still a cable trans and from what I know Type R transmissions were hydraulic not cable.
Always loved these cars. They're not fast (especially with stock D16) but super fun in corners and provide an analog driving experience!
Zygrene love your channel. Good to see my local roads getting thrashed on by Badass cars
There were fast models out there, especially JDM versions but also US and Euro.
Zygrene the analog part
yep
Zygrene I have a 92 si hatch Civic with the D16. Those keys are at least 3 pounds of unnecessary ballast....
Duct Tape yes hahahaha
Could start that thing with a nail file
1manclannoob 😂🤣😭
A true automotive enthusiast's car. These Civics are getting harder to find by the day. Great review!
WheelPrice you should have bought one before they became harder to obtain
Best fun affordable car mx5ND he didn’t say he wanted one. Weird comment
Please DO NOT STOP ONE TAKES.....they give meaning to my life :(
Hello Bye He driving other people's car is not unique. Just ask people to let you drive their cars and film it , and boom there you go more smoking tire style vehicles
*RIP testicular powder jokes.*
You were the real MVP of this series.
Thanks for driving Matt! Glad you liked it. Im stoked watching ur reaction !
Eryk Kurzawa cool car dude
Louis Bastow Thanks Louis!
Nice little Rex looks like a blast to drive, was that 150whp or bhp?
149.6 whp to be exact haha
itr gearbox is 4.4 or 4.7,not 4.3 or did you change the final drive?
God I miss my HF. Drove from philly to Boston and almost back on one tank of gas. Great little car that cost me almost nothing to run for 100k
Same here... it would never pass safety standards now
The CRX was never even officially crash tested in the US.
Despite how ran down the HF was before modifying, it was an amazing car. I do regret modding it, and not restoring it at times..
Patrick94GSR How was it sold?
Who knows, lack of regulation back then, probably some sort of loophole that made crash testing not required for the CRX, or something along those lines.

Love seeing builds like this. Simple and fun. Doesnt have to be super fast to be fun. Love these little cars!
I love the look of the small rims and high aspect ratio tires.

O shit can't wait to see that
Awesome, that car is going to be a riot!
Follow the channel if you aren't! We'll be documenting the build as well as our H23V hatch.

Rip one takes. 💔
Kris Perez not for a while. I believe he said he has about 40 of them to post yet.
gonna miss watching them on my lunch break
somebody else will take over making them its not rocket science to drive a car in the cannyon
sam same it’s either this or old hot versions
What??? Is he stopping ?

Got a HF with 430k og motor and trans, no rust & this is route I'm going with my build; glad you enjoyed it and keep up the great vids
Had a CRX HF , wish I would never let it go. Get you to the mountain up the mountain and back to the beach on one tank taking the tightest line and nailing every apex. Straight up go kart for the road.
I could watch 20 minutes of this with or without commentary. This car sounds great.
Yeah that video of you and Alex in Canada looking at a CRX was hysterical
Matt, thank you for always sharing these amazing videos with us! I look forward to your videos every week!
As an owner of an ‘89 civic si years ago, I’d love to drive this car. These were cars that were huge fun without burning up the stopwatch
Thanks for The Smoking Tire Matt, it has been a good run!
Always thought this channel would hit 1 million subscribers before the one takes ended..
I have the hatch version of this car (EF Civic), in mint condition. Putting in a turbo engine this winter, which should be good for about 180hp. If 150 is as much fun as Matt says it is, 180 should be a RIDONCULOUS amount of fun. Can't wait!
um not trying to be man or anything but if your only getting 180 from a boosted honda engine then your tuner did something very very wrong
I almost bought a heavily modified Si way back in the day with all the 90’s graphics. Had extensive suspension work and engine work done. Not sure which motor it had. And it’s steering was like a go kart (not sure what’s up with this one).

Just found an 80s civic hatch with omly 30k miles. Leather interior simplistic. Tbh, it is a BEAUTIFUL car!

What were everyone's favorite One Takes? Mine would be the VF Supercharged Huracan when the log pops out or the 830hp 335i with the owner freaking out
Mike Lichosyt that wild Mitsubishi Evo “michael jackson” and that Honda with the motorcycle engine.
The well sorted mr2
that red drag racing civic.
Single turbo gte swapped is300
The Corolla XRS
why not get another host for one takes, it doesent have to end... bet there would be someone wiling to take it up.
Vladitorius are you some kind of dumbass?

California Bay area Afternoon coke lines
I have always been a huge fan of the CRX myself. Nice build.
Damn Matt Im gonna miss these one takes. I know you are moving on to better things but I'm gonna miss these. Love your podcasts but hopefully you'll knock off a few one takes every now and then. Best wishes
When is the last one take coming? I want to smoke a fat one while watching at 10am LOL
Right 😂😂
As a non-US resident, is this real? Is weed real, do people actually smoke it? And does it make things more enjoyable?
lmao, it's real alright
sergh8605 smoke a fat one then take an even fatter shit.
smoke some fat doinks
honest question. If you are going to swap an engine in, why the B20b?
Tim price
Price and availability. A lot of the oddball swaps you come across are done that way purely because those are the parts they had lying around.
And he can always upgrade by putting a gsr/b16 head and make a b20v which would have a good amount more power in the 200+ range and nice torque.
Best bang for you buck swap.. You’ll be able to drag b16s
You’ll keep up with a gsr tho I’ve ran my b20 ek coupe with a gsr and we were side by side whole way done the strip
My first car was a 1984 CRX. Looking forward to this video.
The Honda Civic of all Honda Civics
Nice CRX, I have to get mine on here, fun really starts with 200whp in a CRX. The sound of a honda without vtec popping is just not right, its like I'm stuck holding my breath waiting for something thats not coming!!

Buddy of mine had a C-Rex in highschool, we used to pick it up and move it around the lot (and sometimes down the street!) 😂😂😂 Always loved these cars
I think you meant 1988 in the description. Cool video. The EF has been a mainstay in many autocross classes and enthusiasts.
Crx is the car the makes other cars with twice the hp it’s bitch
Can't go wrong with b20 setups..plus it's nice he has that ITR tranny it comes stock lsd... And bad ass gear ratio!. Cool setup
Matt. It will be sad to see you go. I look forward to the next 40 videos
matt you could do a one take car showdown get people who have been on one takes to bring them mad tuner cars down for a track day,it would be a great send off for an awesome series, pit the times against new sports cars just to show how good some of these lads are,get some of the morning dump crowd as spectators haha would be good man
1:12 I love these simple interiors. Very clean.
Makes me miss my CRX, 90 si with a b16. God that was 14 years ago...and...now I feel old...
Smoking tire guy: revs motor*
UA-cam Subtitles : [Music]
made my night
I'm going to miss these... I hope another UA-camr copies this format once Matt is done. If he'd be cool with that.
a lot already have, but you can't compare matt's knowledge with any of them, he has driven so many cars he knows what a well sorted car feels like
UrKo True, but I've heard Jason Cammisa is free right now.
Check out zygrene on YT. Not much personality but good honest reviews and awesome cars.
peteyification He driving other people's car is not unique. Just ask people to let you drive their car and film it , and boom there you go more smoking tire style vehicles. He's not the only knowledgeable person about cars.

I'm the original owner and my
88 CRX still looks and runs great with over 400,000 on it.
Matt, do not stop doing these One Take videos. That is all.
Love my old Honda cars!!! So want a CRX, currently have a 1992 Honda Civic DX sedan.
This is a very smart build. Only revs to 5k makes sense for the track, gently tuned to be safe.
But no one has mentioned the transmission type r 🙄
Best upgrade combo for track setup.
I really am going to miss watching these. But hey...onto bigger and better things!
"Feels quick, feels really quick!"
*tightens harnesses*
Enjoy it while it lasts. We won't get these for much longer :(
I know, It was a bitch to find a clean CRX here in South Africa but i found one, Stock red had a B16A in (which they sold them here in South Africa as at that time). Swapped it with a k24 block and k20 vtec head but now i need Hondata for the tune.
Why?
He driving other people's car is not unique. Just ask people to let you drive their car and film it , and boom there you go more smoking tire style vehicles
zoom zoom ND it is not so simple, first You have to have a lots of friends with interesting cars and good roads without police. Try to do it - You have my sub.
Viewing Most popular sports cars in South Africa are 325i and Kadett Gsi Superboss, right?
1,900 lbs? He could take it down to 1,700 if he removed the stickers
I'm really gunna miss these, dude. I looked forward to One Takes every morning. Could you like...do One Takes on very special cars you've yet to drive? Do it like once a week, maybe on Fridays. That'd be a lot better than just getting rid of them altogether.
Dang, I'm missing my '88 right now. One of these with between 250-300whp would be a beast, and it's quite easy/inexpensive to build them to that.
Its a strange conversion to my mind, because the B16a makes the same power and of course pretty much drops in as it was an option with the car.
Of course its completely up to the owner, its definitely more unique than a B16 would be.
The b16 is far smaller and cost way more and he probably has a vtec head on there by now making far more power than a b16.
JDM Ju5 not b20a* tho
nonickname100 correction hi comp b20s
After having this Motor, I feel vtec B-series a little overrated :)
Sergio Aguirre yea he must be smokin cuz a stock ls fully gutted crx beat me at englishtown over the summer. You put some vtec in that shell your flying
I was joking but thanks for taking for taking it seriously !
I'm on a hunt for one of this beautiful cars, I have a b18c ready for the swap.
Heck yea! I love my CRX!
2nd Ever at this point in time Mattie Boy ;) thanks for the perspective of a GearHead. Cheer's from East-Van B.C., Canada
Best use of 149hp ever!
Wow really going out with a bang!!
as always great vid, massive fan, how about from now on at the start of one takes you take 2 min with the owner to do a tech walk round of the cars ? that would be great, cheers
Double wishbones and rod shifter for the win. If he swapped for the Si steering rack it would be even better.
It still look very well!
Jumping on the interstate my HF got 60+mpg before I swapped it. Badass little cars
Guy i knew had one in the late 90's / early 00's was great fun.
One of the last few. God send oh mighty one take..
Aren't ATR K's a ballache to actually get any heat in?
Love the exhaust note!
At 0:10 he said its his first ever CRX but what about this??
ua-cam.com/video/OBwGrWbXMls/v-deo.html
Angel Gonzalez he probably forgot about it since they are such boring cars, tbh.
Angel Gonzalez he's done so many of these, it's easy to forget. But, good job finding that vid.
Haha that was only a couple weeks ago.
EXPOSED
Caleb Atwood Your a boring car
Almost had a 90 si for 4k in 97. I was working two jobs and my parents refused to co sign. Ended up with a geo storm GSI . It smoked Civics all day. I regret never getting that CRX though.
When we going to a see a proper B20 swap with a vtec head?
Had an 89 dx with less than 100k back in 2001. Ran the car till 2009 with nothing but a clutch install and wish I had never sold it. Got over 30 mpg where 5 bucks gas went all week long.
Type-R cable transmission??...maybe he meant SiR.
I have always loved these.
2:32 Slightly too fart cannon-y for my tastes. Otherwise a great build.
Probably used a cheap exhaust. Sound doesnt matter on the track.
ive wanted a crx for so long ive literally had every other form of ef but that rt4wd wago sedan a hatch but never been able to get a rex
Is the video sped up? It looks insanely fast, much faster than any Porsche, etc video on your channel.
Finally a one take what happend to one wakes lol those were sick
i doubt it had a turbo engine originally.... never heard about that and i cannot find any info about turbo. It was D15B2..
Ideal for autocross. I miss my '91 Si even all these years later. Perfect car for a financially poor enthusiast.
does this have a b16b head on the block?
YES another Honda before this series goes RIP, does anyone know what the steering wheel is called?
Momo Monte Carlo.
u gotta do one takes of the vintage cars collection ur planning! ;)
You need to do best motoring replica battle with youtubers!
Great video!
I had to hold my morning deuce SO LONG!
I own a 91 CRX HF. 95 jdm b18c/ITR cams swap with b17 cable gear box. 1st & 5th shorter than a ITR trans....love to send it!
B20 is all torque baby! 💪
There is a cable running to that transmission so that means it's still a cable trans and from what I know Type R transmissions were hydraulic not cable.
It was converted.
Eryk Kurzawa Converted how?
You should come drive our 91 Civic Hatch or our 91 CRX gravel rally cars. More power, better brakes, full cage, and crazy fun.
what seat model is the passenger seat???
That settles it, a crx is my next car!
