i dont think this is an extension of the 8 year power train warranty, its an extension of their 3 year warranty for the rest of their car.
Extended warranties are a rip off for all items not just cars. Even in the slight chance you need it they always try to weasel out of paying. I’ve been deciding extended warranties since 1988 and have saved over $100,000 US. The one time I bought a home warranty they refused to pay when my AC compressor went out. Never again. Remember this saying. “Don’t pay in advance, give luck a chance”.
This is incorrect, some models dating back to mid 2019 qualify. I know for a fact because mine, a 2019, has the ability for me to purchase it.
The warrantee extends the 50,000 mile basic warrantee not the powertrain warrantee.
Warranty extends the 50,000 one not the battery 120/8 year
Depends the model, air suspension could be a ton. I think it’s worth the piece of mind especially on higher end models with more fancy stuff to break
@@stevenjones916 Honestly, if it covers labour alone it might be worth it.
I drive my Model 3 25,000 miles in about 6-7 months for my business. Not worth it for me. Keep up the great work Viking!
Not as much as you but I do think for us 25000 mile a year people it's a waste.
Buying my first Tesla 3 used 2022, still got 2 years to use Tesla warranty, but with so many items like the main screen and heat pump, the aftermarket warranty may just save some money.
The new heat pump is over £3000, perhaps people know different and used them.
It’s a risk business but most things are these days with cars.
In New Zealand there is the consumer guarantees act and no matter what a seller says, its covered by the act.
Same in Australia tesla can say all they want its still 5 years standard by consumer law.
I have had three friends who have had the same suspension issue. Something on the passenger side starts to squeak and then goes bad. The one who had it repaired out of warranty was fairly expensive. That is the kind of thing that would tempt me to get this extension.
In the US, Tesla's basic warranty is 4-year/50,000-mile. The extended service agreement adds 2 years and 25,000 miles of limited coverage. It can only be purchased within the basic warranty period.
Not available in Australia
I get what your saying, but there are still things that can mess up. On my older Model S, I was just charged $7000 for DC/DC converter. Ouch.
Considering the price and claimed profits and reliability, Tesla should have a longer warranty now without paying extra.
This is incorrect. Please correct the video. This is an extension of the 50k mile warranty, and doesn’t include the battery and powertrain because that is covered by the separate 120k warranty. The downside is the service visit co-pay, but for many this may be worth it. Will it definitely save you money? No, but it’s a warranty extension. The idea is it is hedging the cost against possible more expensive surprise costs later. To each their own. But if you have a model y and you haven’t had to replace the hvac yet, I’d buy it. Too many of those fail and this pays for itself.
The chances of anything going wrong that is covered by the warranty are quite small otherwise they wouldn’t offer it in the first place. Best just to take a chance of nothing going wrong and if it does it probably won’t cost more than the warranty cost and if it does the warranty probably wouldn’t cover it anyway
sounds like anotherFSD farce
I have a 2020 model 3 LR and the warranty is available to me.
Sam, you've seen the Ora lightning cat, the MG pickup and the XPeng G6 and P7i?
He probably will have bad things to say about any car which competes with Tesla. He wants Nio and Xpeng to fail so he applauds himself for selling their stock
What about the Radar R6?
It's not meant to extend the battery and powertrain warranty. For my Model 3, it increases the full warranty from 50k to 75k miles. The battery and motors are still at 120k.
The only reason I would consider buying an extended warranty from Tesla for my Model Y is due to the car's heat pump. If it fails after warranty expires, it can cost $3,600 US (see John VanDeVoort's YT channel about his recent out of warranty heatpump/supermanifold replacement).
I think the information here is wrong. The warranty is for the cars which haven't reached the end of their 50K/4yr warranty for the non-drivetrain components. That said, I probably wouldn't buy it but it extends the warranty for the rest of the car other than the drivetrain. The drivetrain already has an 8 year/120K warranty in the US.
Other automakers DO already sell extended warranties at purchase or later through dealerships or other third party sellers. No other automaker can do it as efficiently as Tesla can through its app.
As long as they don't start calling people for extended warranties on their Teslas 🤣
Don’t think you read the ESA service agreement before making this video. It’s after your factory warranty of 50k miles or 4 years expire . Not after the 8 year powertrain warranty.
Extended warranties are scam for the most part. I rarely fall for them but did get one on a microwave once during a moment if weakness. The microwave failed 3 days after the end of the normal 3 year warranty so I lucked out with that one. Haven’t purchased or needed one since.
I asked the question about extended warranty at Parramatta shop and I was told that is not offered. The person said battery and motor are most important and covered for eight years so no need. Typical Tesla, if they don't offer it is not important. I believe we can claim reasonable life product warranty in Australia beyond what is offered, no?
What happens after those two years is that it?
You called it an "Extended Warranty" several times and in fact, it's in your UA-cam title. Once you said an "Extended Service Contract" it is neither it is an "Extended Service Agreement" That may sound trite but there are a lot of things that are not covered under the ESA that were covered under the original warranty. The battery and drive unit have a separate warranty to satisfy CARB (California Air Resources Board) for 120K or 8 years so to extend that to 75K is a reduction. If you are like my wife with her Model Y she puts a lot of miles on the car, 20K as of 6/23. She took delivery in late 2022 so she could have 40K by early 2023 and I'll probably pony up the 2K before the 50K odometer rolls over. One computer issue will pay for it. Tesla doesn't offer the ESA on my Model S Plaid but even if I did I have so few miles on it I would be very unlikely to ever use it and I doubt it would add resale.
I have a 2020 model Y and it is available for me to purchase.
My 2019 also qualifies
Tesla are in the business of making money. Musk would not provide extended warranties if he calculated he would lose on the deal. Also, the fineprint would need to be read thoroughly. You missed a service with us, no coverage. Didn't change those tyres when we said, no coverage. Charged to 100% too many times, no coverage.
Bummer mine is 2018
Currently its not available in 🇨🇦

The power train and battery have a longer warranty anyway, so logically this extension does not cover those items.
Frankly, I never buy extended warranties, and prefer to take the small risks involved. Guess what? I've never had anything fail within a hypothetical extended warranty period. I've saved many thousands of pounds over the decades.
If it will fail, it's usually either very early (it's called 'infant mortality') or towards the end of product life (old age); the so-called 'bathtub curve'.
No sensible company offers extended warranties unless they can be sure that those warranties will only be used on rare occasions. They do the maths first.
I never get extended warranty, not a good consumer deal.
Always no. If they lost money on a warranty they wouldn't offer it at that price
The battery and drive unit isn't covered so don't do it.
oops sorry you said this in the vid
This completely control relinquished by Tesla purchasers, ceding complete control for the life of the car will ultimately lead to desertion of the brand. Right of repair!
They definitely need it with Tesla being one of the least reliable vehicles on the road.
You should not be buying a Tesla until they reduce the price to $25,000 otherwise you're rubbing yourself
This is a cash grab. Shame on Tesla.
warranty is 4 years 50 miles ,your referring to battery and drive train both that this does not include, very poorly researched video
Sounds like Tesla isn't confident the battery will last past 150k
Don't be a mug
This guy has. No clue. Read
Seeing the offer:
- Tesla quality is terrible as cover is poor
- huge profit generator in USA where warranties are weak anyway versus fe Europe.
- looks like an ice car wattanty but much less moving parts, so a true rip-off. Shame on you
Tesla should be leading in normal new car warranty. It does not show they really believe they produce top quality.
Top price should mean top quality backed up with a top warranty and to service.
Producing at great efficiency but a resulting disastrous repairability is the most likely root cause, now all on the expenses of end customers and then say affordability is what we strive for. It smells dirty and this warranty introduction makes it worse. Blind folded naive thinking making fools out of US-consumers.
Correct according to most recent China study Tesla's have really poor quality conmpared to Chinese rivals as per carnewschina
Tesla have very poor quality according to most recent study as per carnewschina. Nio Hongqi have much better as per study
MG4 here has a top notch quality. Seems Tesla still suffering from quality issues
First Tesla should fix the cars delivered without radar, without parking sensors (which was fraud and blackmailing customers) and without USB ports, once this is done we can discuss stuff like this.
