My first experience in a Split Window Bus

- The split window Type 2's are really the only ones I get very excited about. I get really hung up on the body style changes to cars that make them less appealing.
With Type 2's, they replaced that beautiful V shaped nose with a rectangle, and they really lost something at that point.
Getting to drive this bus was more meaningful than I think Gary even realized.
Love that you captured my dad's voice and his story. This is special.

I drove my '67 bus for over twenty years. When I sold it my daughter cried - so I found and restored a '58 bus. Subscribed to your channel 👍

Glad gary got it's driving I've got to get my bus done wait on a 944 front caliper then should be ready for show season gary one of the most honest and great bros I've met since I moved here from Socal 4yrs ago I definitely love our vdub community here in the ozarks😊

Cool bus! I think the color is "Turkis"? I just picked up one just like it, but its got a smaller rear window (maybe its a '61 or '62?, gotta look at the title). He was asking a hundred bucks for it, so hard to turn it up. Put an air filter on that bus, dude, save the motor! ✌️ 🚌

Thanks for sharing, it took 6.5 years to get our 61 kombi back on the road. Still a bunch of little things to do. We logged 2k plus miles so far

This was a great story to hear as I'm a Springfieldian! Its nice to Know that this beauty came from Steve at ROY ROGERS (our old VW parts place ). I'm sad he is gone now. I hope to see this beauty while cruising around in my 71 bay 7 passenger deluxe bus. or my 66 sea blue beetle! Thanks for the story!

what color is the 71 bus ? NIagara Blue ? Sierra Yellow ? Chianti Red ? Montana Red ?
Sierra yellow OG it’s gotta lotta primer on her in spots now but not RUST! Bumps an bruises yes yes but not rust😄

@@fromthebeginningofvankind28 thats the way to buy them. My NIagara Blue had the original paint, Santa Cruz to Portland to Chicago - Gary IN to my house...June of 71 and it's a joy to work on. The lady who sold it to me, had grandkids and they make little FEET in the faded paint from their skin oils or suntan lotion ?? I did not know about sierra yellow, but that's a neat color. I want a blue one since 1986.

Great video! Awesome bus! Are you able to provide more information on the rubber wheel used to remove the stickers? Thinking that may be a good tool to help remove the old glue from my firewall tar board I removed.

If you Google "rubber eraser wheel" several choices will come up. You can also likely find them at your local auto supply store. As you can see they chuck up in a drill. I can't speak to using them to remove old glue, but they work great on old decals and stuff like that.

Exvessive VW shifter slop usually caused by a worn shifter rod bushing.
That’s a good point. My memory is fuzzy, but I think I may have asked about that. I’ll point it out to him!
