@@samuelkooiman3005 Never have, actually. I think part of that stream is a trout stream but it’s a bit far from where I live in the Lansing area for a day-trip. I do fish Prairie Creek near Ionia and Fish Creek near Carson City for trout
Loved this video, you guys look like you had a great day. We fish the Grand often and I'm glad you got a chance to enjoy some sport in our neck of the woods.
Beautiful river run, John. Ethan seems like a nice guy. His fishing style is very compatible to yours, kind of laid back, just picking up what you can. I like that in your usual videos. The tournament videos can get intense. Quite a few smallies, but the story of the day was the pike ! The topwater action was explosive ! This one is just the beginning. More good times to follow. Always be safe ! Randy B.
I love that you finally got up to my neck of the woods. Grand River, Flat River. Pine River, Chippewa River, Muskegon River. All great fishing in Michigan. Lots of creeks and lakes to try also. Plenty of public waters to fish with loads of different species to catch. You'll definitely have a great time fishing up here.
Oh man I know this area so well, I used to fish there all the time when I lived in Michigan. One of my favorite spots. I've caught a 20 inch Smallie, a 36 inch Pike, a 9lb Steelhead and so much more in that river. Also I see you like jerky, if you ever go back, visit Gary's Country Meats in Lowell, they have awesome jerky, snack sticks and smoked sausages, including smoked Andouille sausage that is probably the best ever. Man this was fun watching y'all fish my old stomping grounds.
Now that looks like a river trip the way I experience in IL & WI. Nice to see you got a few pike too. River smallies up north have a never say die attitude in general. You guys were perfect fishing buddies. Blessings brother
Lets see Pike and small mouth, yeah that makes for a pretty good day in my book. I enjoy the banter and the content very much. Keep the videos coming, they are like fuel for my soul. LOL God Bless and GO KATS!!!!!!!
One of the best lures to use in Michigan for catching northern pike is a red and white spoon with a silver back reeling at high speed. My PB was a 39.5" fishing from shore with that combo on 10# test and a 12# steel leader.
For anyone watching... buy some Mule jigs and plastics! They've been saving my butt all year long. Every time the bite dies or I can't figure it out, I tie on a 1/32oz mule jig with a donkeytail jr and we're back in business. I've caught so many fish this year thanks to Ethan. Mule products are the real deal!
That was a great shot at the end there John I would take that fishing day any day. Pike and smallies two great fish, fun to catch. Nice video beautiful location closer to my neck of the woods.
Cool video. Pretty Smallies and pretty northern Pike. They really colorful fish. God bless you both and your families. And travel safely John......🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊🙂😀
I was looking forward to your videos of this trip. I watched Ethans video on this first spot and I was patiently waiting on your upload lol. Glad to see you got your pike that was an awesome blowup. Reminded me of the Matt from NDYakAngler. 👊👍
We’ve got plenty of big rivers to fish here in Michigan, such as the Rouge River, the Thorneapple River and the Flat River. All great places to get good sized smallies depending on the location of the rivers you’re fishing.
I live next to the Grand River lots of nice fishing 🎣🎣🎣🎣 in it glad you got to experience it what part was you on near Grand rapids? The looking glass and the Red cedar River is good fishing to they both connect to the Grand River
You definitely are the "Small Mouth King"! I live close to Tulsa OK and I don't know if I've ever caught a small mouth? Awesome video. Those Pikes are an interesting fish!
When things get tough, go to the Hellgramite. . I'd love to catch some Pike but I'm never in the right location. Thanks John.. Enjoy the heck out of your vids. Stay Safe.
This is like when you go to see your favorite band and one of your other favorite musicians joins in for a set! Awesome to see two of my favorite UA-camrs hanging out and catching some fish together. THANK YOU for making the drive.
I grew up fishing that area. If you really want to catch fish buy yourself a glass minnow trap and fish with minnows. 5 dozen minnows might be enough to get you up to the high banks two miles upstream from the launch.
Fantastic video brother...Ole Cameraman Ron lost a fish grabber by not putting the lanyard around his wrist. Big Old pike would yank that thing outta you hand. LOL
Maaaaan, John welcome to te only place to be in the summer . The Grand River is great but you ain’t seen nothing yet . I hope you get a chance to get up north .East Grand Traverse Bay is some of the best fishing in the world . Salmon ,trout, bass,Cisco, whitefish . All the inland lakes are active , perch, pike, bass, walleye. You’ll be looking for a summer place to live . Welcome .
I personally don’t think downtown is all the great to fish, only because of the immense rock and concrete snags. The amount of times I’ve had to take line off my hooks compared to fish is uncountable. Maybe if you’re float fishing for steelhead it might be okay, but anything else is nothing more than burning a hole in your pocket from lures and hooks lost
@@DarkSoulThieves I’ve caught a shit ton of nice smallies pike and eyes downtown brother I always just jig don’t lose to much tackle and I don’t mean specifically right at the dam
Glad you made your destination. Want to try a crazy reservoir on your way home in Barnesville Ohio. You can put your kayak in at the damn. that's one of the few places to get a boat in. no gas motors. EDIT: It's actually between Barnesville and Woodsfield Ohio. It's called slope Creek Reservoir if you want to google map it. It's very deep and pretty damn large for a reservoir. No telling what you catch in there. It's been there since before I can remember. there is some fracking going on the area so they are drawing water out for fracking but they are absolutely not permitted to dump in there. It's drinking water for that entire area. I hooked something I never got to see in that lake one day. Drug our 14 foot heavy john boat all over trying to land it with two 200 lb adult men in it. I had 20 lb test on. It broke me off after about a half hour. I got swirls on top a few times but never got a good look at what the hell it was but it was huge. May have been a big catfish but there are all kinds of fish in there. Lots of perch also. Then on the same road state route 800 is Monroe lake and a creek that is right up your alley that come from the overflow of that lake. Called sunfish creek. that creek is small and it is so loaded with fish it is unreal. most of the accessible area is on property though so you have to ask to walk through property to get to it. Miles up that creek I would go up and fish and at noon on a sunny day you can see channel cat just sunning them selves in shallow water that are perfect eating size. that creek is loaded and rarely fished once you get up in there from the mouth of the Ohio river. In the Cameron Ohio area it's incredible. the entire creek is incredible for a small creek.
Two of the nicer guys on UA-cam fishing. Always a pleasure to watch their videos. No screaming, yelling or drama. Just fishing.
Who is screaming and yelling lol?
I consider the Grand River my home water and fish it and it’s tributaries regularly. I am glad you had the chance to enjoy it!

The river looks awesome to fish! Lots of different looks to work and nothing beats the topwater bites
You need to fish Muskegon lake or Muskegon river from Croton dam for some serious Michigan fishing. The big smallmouth are in Lake Michigan right now.
