At first the model was kind off shy, but after a while she got relaxed and you Julia captured it so well!!!! My favourites were the images shot on the beach!
Nice video, its great to see another photographer using the 50mm for portraits. I love seeing the way you direct your model to get the look you are after.
Really awesome, no flashes, reflectors etc.. just talent. love the results.. am a beginner will be buying a sigma 35mm f/1.4, but it will be on a aps-c body hope it goes well
Hey Julia, i really like the way you are directing your model. I will learn so much from you. Thank you for doing these videos. I really liked the rusults from this shooting too. You are amazing.
I love this models body type. Perfection in my opinion. Great shots as well. I have a shoot today and its at a park in direct sun. This video helped me out a lot.
Hi Julia, I have the 50mm 1.2 lens, and I can’t wait to use it. Thank you for such a great informative video, filmed at my local beach. So blessed to live here.
This video helped raise my motivation to get back into photography. I felt so limited with just a 50mm lense but this video shows me how blind I was. Great video. Thank you!
Wow!! Beautiful pics... and model!! She looks like a thicker Megan Fox!! But I looovee your videos Julia, you are super intuitive and thorough! Well explained in every video and I love that damn cat!! 😂😂🤗
I also use a GOLD or a SILVER Or a WHITE reflectors for outdoor photography and if is dark taking pictures outdoors I would use my canon EXT 600 flashes
if you are doing a photo shoot like this, is it just for your and model's portfolio? if so, do you - as a photographer - pay to make-up artist and model? are you doing sometimes TFP photo shoots?
Usually the model will pay the photographer to get updated or specific photos they might need for their book! The only time I can think of a photographer paying a model is if you want to specifically take photos of someone who is already working full time and doesn't need "updated" photos for their book as they already get new photos to share with the jobs they do :)
I'm amateur photographer and I'm pretty poor myself for paying any models so i just work with girls that arent models but like posing and are pretty. They get cool photos and i get a good model. Ofc if someone wants book photos they pay me.
Hi, That was a wonderful photo shoot! Thanks for uploading the video. I am just starting with photography and I have two basic questions: 1. Do you use back button for for focussing or not? 2. Which metering you use for portraits ( Evaluative,Centre or Spot) Thanks 😊 Aiman
Thank you Julia, this popped up in my YT and it is a great video. I have a question for you. When you sort in really bright sunlight, do you ever use a polariser or a variable ND filter? Thank you. 🎉🎉🎉
Great video Julia. Quick question, on a shoot like this how many photos do you end up with and how many final images do you choose. Do you give the model the option to choose the one that they like or do you just give her the ones you think is your best work regardless of wether the models like the photo or not? xx
Thank you! I usually get some feedback on the day when showing the photos to my team on what they liked and what they want for their portfolio then I just select a mixture of photos :) I usually edit about 20 photos from a shoot which to other photographers is a lot haha but I find that's enough for me to select a good variety of photos from what we shot on the day!
Hi Julia, thanks so much for this channel, I hace been learning a lot with your videos. I have a question for you: What video camera, lens and luts did you use to make this video?, do you sell the luts? please let me know, again I love your channel!!!!!!!
Beautiful photoshoot with a beautiful model. The sunlight is so bright on the beach, you almost needed an ND filter. I noticed you mostly shoot at f/2.
Thanks for this video, Julia, and emphasizing the message that one can still get great photos from a seemingly bland location. And you’re very smart to shoot at f2 with this lens. The 50 1.2 imho is very soft wide open, at least at wider apertures.
Hi Julia. I really enjoy your content, so thank you for taking the time to post these videos. Is there a reason why you don't shoot wide open on the 50mm f1.2 ?
Lenses are not at their sharpest when they are wide open. Usually theyre sharpest 2 to 3 stops from their widest. So a f1.2 is sharpest between f2-f4 and an f2 is sharpest between f2.8-f5.6
Thank you! I normally like to shoot at 1.2, but for this shoot I wanted extra crisp photos haha so I decided to shoot at 2 :) I thought the slight extra sharpness would really suite the lighting and location we were working with.
Would you mind doing more photoshoot video with clients (senior portraits, engagements, bts wedding ext.)? I find it interesting how photographers communicate with non-models that are also complete strangers ☺️
Love your work! You manage the highlights so we'll. Are you always shooting to preserve the highlights and bringing shadows up in post? If so, how do you keep the shadows looking so clean after lifting them? About how many stops under are you shooting. I like when you show before and after edits, also. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! Yep I usually shoot to preserve the highlights as much as possible without compromising the shadows too much. At first I used the histogram to make sure I'm not crushing anything, after a few years of using the same camera though I can tell by eye if I'm pushing something too far haha
My favorites were the images around the tree. Beautiful model! Do your models just know to change poses after every shutter sound? How would you instruct someone that's not a model to do that (as in how do they know how much or little to move?)?
Thank you! Usually models will already know to move around every time I press the shutter, but if they don't I just ask them to :) The same goes for if they're moving too little or too much, it just comes down to communication and letting them know what you're after!
Love all of your videos, I have learned so much! I'm just wondering how you get everything in sharp focus shooting at such a low aperture and being so close to the subject? I've been struggling with that, hoping i'm missing something simple. :)
Well done Julia. Love your work and thanks for the videos. You’ve made me go back to doing shoots with a single lens. It’s a challenge and it forces me to think through the process. Usually the results are magical. You’re the best Julia. When are you coming to San Francisco area?
Thank you! And yes, I love how putting limitations on yourself can sometimes cause you to be more creative :D I'm going to San Francisco next month actually! I want to try and plan a photog meet up!
Julia Trotti that’s awesome. I’d love to be involved in that meet up if there is an open invitation. I’m about an hour and a half from San Francisco, so if the opportunity is there, I’m in 😊👍🏼
Another great video, my favourite was the harsh one resting on her hand. I’ve noticed before make up artist taking photographs the same time you are. Is this for their portfolio or is it to see what the make up looks like? I hope it’s not this weekend you’re going to Scotland, we’ve just come back and it’s a little bit breezy.
Hey Julia loving the videos learning a lot. Any chance you could mention the time of day you do these shoots. As sometime during a golden hour shoot I still feel like I’m getting the time of day wrong :) xx
Thanks! I shot this around 3 - 4pm (as in shoot starts at 3 and finished around 4) in the summer, so there were still a few hours to go before the sun set!
Thanks Julia..so for the most part, when shooting models that may be moving, dancing etc your shutter speed would need to be high through out the shoot correct?
seacow2001 just get a 1.8 it’s not all about the lenses. It’s also the photographers skill level and creativity. I shoot with a Canon T6 and 50 1.8 and take great shots 🤷🏾♂️
BlackEntrepreneur24 Totally agree. I’m doing an analogue 365 project and I’m only allowed to use the 50mm f1.8 on an EOS 2000nf using TMax 400. My second favourite lens after my Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is my Jupiter 50mm f2. Cameras and lenses are tools, like a painter's brushes are. The idea is to know you lenses and what they will do.

Just starting a Julia Trotti video binge. I'm learning so much.
Same
She packs a ton of educational content in these vids. Posing, lighting, camera tech, photo theory. One of the beat at actually teaching.
I love how you show that you don’t need fancy locations and backgrounds to get great photos!
Pretty models needed thought

Nice video, its great to see another photographer using the 50mm for portraits. I love seeing the way you direct your model to get the look you are after.
Thank you so much 😄I need to start using the 50mm more often!
Really awesome, no flashes, reflectors etc.. just talent. love the results..

Really great video and BTS shots where perfect for getting the photographer model relation
Thank you!
Hey Julia, i really like the way you are directing your model. I will learn so much from you. Thank you for doing these videos. I really liked the rusults from this shooting too. You are amazing.

Lovely shots! Especially like the ones with the long tree limbs. Reminded me of The Bridge to Terabithia.
Divineshot 314 random but yes! Haha

The color grading of your videos😍
Best model Yet..... Great shoot
I love this models body type. Perfection in my opinion. Great shots as well. I have a shoot today and its at a park in direct sun. This video helped me out a lot.
Thanks for making this video! I enjoyed watching your photoshoot behind the scenes! :)
A good way to start learning... Thank you julia for the good video
So with an extremely beautiful model and lens, it doesn’t matter what background you have
The Model looks absolutely beautiful 😍
I would kill to work with Such models 😩...metaphorically
Everyone walks round the tree, Julia head butts the tree 😁 nice video and gorgeous model.
Hahahah
Hi Julia, I have the 50mm 1.2 lens, and I can’t wait to use it. Thank you for such a great informative video, filmed at my local beach. So blessed to live here.
The CU at 10.18 is my fave probably, but it's nice to see beach photos taken so well too.
Thanks Julia. Love that u show your setttings. and the shots. Great stuff. Love the white outfit on yr beautiful model.
Thank you!
Julia you are beautiful than every model you shoot on your shoot ☺️☺️😍🥰🥰
i love all of your videos so so much!
Realllly enjoying the BTS vids Julia! Definitely learning a lot from them. You captured some great shots with harsh sunlight
Thank you so much!
This video helped raise my motivation to get back into photography. I felt so limited with just a 50mm lense but this video shows me how blind I was. Great video. Thank you!
Beautiful model and an awesome shoot as always. Thanks for sharing Julia.
Thank you :)
Thanks for making videos! Your content is super helpful!

Awesome video Julia😀✌. My favorite photos were the one on by the trees. I really love close up shots. You did beautifully as always.
Thank you so much :)
@@juliatrotti You're welcome☺.

Hey love your work. Great to see someone use F2 ... Great idea
Nice pix with your nifty 50, and the attractive model helped! :) I have a 50mm 1.8 on a Nikon D750 and it's a GREAT all-around lens!
if you are doing a photo shoot like this, is it just for your and model's portfolio? if so, do you - as a photographer - pay to make-up artist and model? are you doing sometimes TFP photo shoots?
when I've done photoshoots with models for our portfolios I either work tfp or they pay me
Usually the model will pay the photographer to get updated or specific photos they might need for their book! The only time I can think of a photographer paying a model is if you want to specifically take photos of someone who is already working full time and doesn't need "updated" photos for their book as they already get new photos to share with the jobs they do :)

I only own canon equipment so I go back and watch the oldies lol you really use the 50mm well
And for outdoors photo shoots I always use a white or gold reflector or my canon flashes
Ur videos are always such a pleasure to watch..
veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy nicee shoot loved the beach photos

Aw thank you 💛
Have to say, She was a really good model 🙌👏

Can u suggest me which filters should i buy for my canon 1500d kit lens and 50mm 1.8 lens
Im waiting😃
Thanks for this video, Julia, and emphasizing the message that one can still get great photos from a seemingly bland location. And you’re very smart to shoot at f2 with this lens. The 50 1.2 imho is very soft wide open, at least at wider apertures.
Not very soft, it is enough sharp to shoot wide open and gives very beautiful picture
So good ,beautiful picture julia 🤗I love this video
Thank you! I actually normally use this lens at 1.2, but for this shoot I wanted my photos to be extra crisp haha
What is exposure metering you use? because many times in order to expose the face one loses out background detail (in case of harsh sunlight)
Adorable!
Another amazing video Julia…and Dan ;-) ! I'm just curious, but why do you like to shoot at f2?
Joseph Pancho its because the canon 50mm f1.2 is really soft at 1.2 and at f2 its fine. I have the canon 50mm f1.2 so I know how it is.
Thank you! I normally like to shoot at 1.2, but for this shoot I wanted extra crisp photos haha so I decided to shoot at 2 :) I thought the slight extra sharpness would really suite the lighting and location we were working with.
Wow!

Michelle Cahal I wonder the exact same thing

😍😍📸📸✌ amazing photos
Thanks Julia..so for the most part, when shooting models that may be moving, dancing etc your shutter speed would need to be high through out the shoot correct?
Yeah, I find that usually anything over 1/320 or 1/400 is enough to capture movement without any motion blur!
I got one of these canon 50 MM EF1.2 lenses
Man, that 50mm f1.2 is still amazing despite no upgrade since release. If only I can afford it :( :( :(
