Knux characterization is close to my personal...the good pretrial😂 I hated how he was one noted for so long, I can relate to his nativity and it bothered me that it was looked at as stupidly anyway He was my favorite until Sticks came along 😅
I don't know how much people are talking about this fact, but I do appreciate how the movies are kinda their own thing using storybites from the games. Not just rehashing the same story from those games.
I felt a bit off when Knuckles’ personality was simplified in the Meta Era. One minute he’s the lone wolf fierce guardian of the Master Emerald and then he became a stereotypical high school jock
If I'm not mistaken, in Sonic Runners there is a cutscene that shows Knuckles explaining where he hides the Master Emerald when he isn't there. Well, a explanation in a mobile game but still a explanation.
One solution to the Master Emerald problem would be Knuckles taking the Master Emerald with him on Sonic's adventures since he's able to shrink it in Adventure 2,which hasn't been brought up again for some reason.
You bring up a point in the recent Sonic movie, where he "has his moments of being dumb." I believe one of the reasons why this movie Knuckles was better received isn't because he was stupid, but he was _ignorant_. A very distinct difference. meta-era Knuckles was just a dumbass, while in the Sonic movie he's very clearly a calculated and thorough thinking individual, it's just that he has no idea what the hell is going on due to him dealing with stuff he's never encountered before - being the "jungle-living tribal guy," much like the Amish.
Growing up with his first 3 games (and not playing much past Heroes for the reasons you mentioned in the video), Knuckles always stood out to me as a character, not just in Sonic but in any series, for his integrity. No matter what else was going on, his main commitment was to his people and his duty. He had a big lonely heart and as he made friends of course he wanted to help, but he was disciplined enough to stick to his guns. No matter what version of him they put in future games or franchises, peak Knux to me will always be the Adventure games version 🤜
Huge shoutout to the IDW comics for portraying him, and pretty much everyone excellently! Bummer you didnt mention it. (In particular, i love his short story with Blaze, where they discuss their guardian duties, same as the one where Amy visits Angel Island to return an Echidna relic and spends the day exploring with him.)
i think the reason they made knuckles so "simple" during the 2010's was to make shadow the cool badass rival instead. since shadow is like one of the more popular characters.
That’s bullshit. Shadow was introduced a whole decade earlier back in 2001. Also, Shadow along with Knuckles and the rest of the cast were simplified in personality and reduced to background roles. What are you talking about?
I don't know if it makes sense, but I feel that since the Master Emerald was massive in the games, keeping Knuckles on Angel Island keeps him in solitude majorly on that. Knuckles being on his own is interesting to see, while at the same time having him get closer to the crew. Arguably, since the Master Emerald is considerably smaller in size and proportion in the movies, one could say it's easier to have Knuckles both protect the Master Emerald while interacting with others. Plus, the movies can do their own stuff whether it's based on the games, shows, other media, or not. (Unintentionally, from the way I see it, their movie iterations kinda feels like the could be similar to their OVA iterations from how the three are to some degree) Also, I like the Boom iterations being separate from the main iterations but allowed to be their own thing.
Man Not a single thing i disagree with Knuckles is the SHIT Honestly, I don't mind him being a Starfire type character in the movies Being like "I am having...THE FUN" That's endearing to me So as long as he has trailer moments, I'm into him being a tough dunce that means well
I know the pain man.. hes was my Main Favorite and i could relate to him, ever since i played Sonic The Hedgehog 3 as a kid and Still to this day man.. 💥🤘👊😌👊🤘💥 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
Shame Shade was decanonized otherwise she could live with Knuckles as the secondary emerald Guardian, not necessarily romantic possibly maybe siblings or comrades as a fellow Echidna abd a clearly responsible person she would do that especially given the respect she clearly shows to Knickles.
Well, I don't know what to say about this perception of friendship that you had in Adventure, the song where it comes from calls Knuckles a porcupine, keeping a flower from deterioration, or that rap represents him being almost a caveman... But I always felt that Knuckles was not only the guardian of the emerald, but of the Island as well. After all, he knows quite a few traps of the place. I felt that Adventure 2 was a desperate measure. If he managed to rescue Eggman's emerald, he would have to prevent Rouge from taking it. He was simply impulsive. It wasn't until he faced his fears (the ghosts) that he was able to reach the climax, where he faced his greatest fear, women (it sounds funny, but it appears on his character sheet).
Although, I feel that frontiers did wrong, we all know that Sega needs to remove Knuckles from being a character limited to a stone to continue occupying it. So Ian grabbed onto the only thing he had at hand, the Adventure songs, to say that Sonic was envious. For me it's relatively fine, I don't know if I would have confessed it as is, but I accept it. What I do not accept is that Sonic tells him "live a little" and Knuckles does not respond with "I can't, I have a duty to fulfill".. But, even with all this, there is still an alternative for Knuckles to be "free." ", this is thanks to Superstars, where the emerald gives hints to Knux to help Sonic. If they created a story in which the emerald thanks the last guardian by giving him freedom from his duty and Knuckles agrees, but out of habit he returns from time to time to see if everything is in order, you keep a Knuckles who can be serious and with a sense of responsibility that makes his new freedom uncomfortable
Knuckles' role in heroes could've easily been fixed if they just simply explained that he got mugged by "Eggman" aka M. Sonic for the Master emerald, so M. Sonic can use the Master Emerald to turn into the Overlord. And it gives a better motivation for Team Sonic to go after him rather than that tacky ass "heres a letter, says eggman is gonna rule the world n shit" and Sonic just takes the bait like that.
The Knuckles show was not about Knuckles tho. He got 0 character development, we did not get to know more of his past, or the history of his tribe. This was a Wade show, and huge missed opportunity. They at least could have introduced Rogue.
I think one thing that didn't help was the attempt to reboot Sonic. The 06 was a mess and the following title was more or less a tidy up. It's lucky they got back on track when they did Generations but then they had to mess up again with that mobile game that instead became the abomination known as Sonic 4. I can only thank Christian Whitehead and Headcannon for making Sonic Mania for Sega. That was the platformer we needed after 23 years.
I hate Sonic Boom! I hate Sonic Boom! I hate Sonic Boom! And I’ll never forgive that bastard for linking it to the main series, by mentioning Sticks at the end of Frontiers. He could have shown Marine the Raccoon some love, but noooo, he had to go and name drop the most annoying character with the weakest design, from that abomination of a sub-series.
I hate Sonic Boom too, with every fibre of my being. They massacred Knuckles. They took everything that made him interesting, and flanderized him. Gone was the self reliant. dutiful, responsible, but pretty naive/guillable lone guardian, the last of his kind. It was replaced with that meathead who had no other chracter trait beside being stupid.
What is your favorite thing about Knuckles? How did you feel about him in the 2010s games, or rather, the "meta era"? Let me know!!
where is sonic vs amanda aventurer pt 2, i wanna see sonic exe solo her.
I guess knux was ok from 2010 - 2021, but he has really improved since, and you know, I’m proud of him!
meta era knuckles was the absolute worst.
Knux characterization is close to my personal...the good pretrial😂
I hated how he was one noted for so long, I can relate to his nativity and it bothered me that it was looked at as stupidly anyway He was my favorite until Sticks came along 😅
Hope one day you’re gonna reach 3K subs, keep up the good work for amazing sonic contents like this one 👍🏻

Great video, Mikey!!
Thank you so much, Emi!!

Problem is that it is the energy that keeps Angel Island floating so taking it with him would make the Island vulnerable.
what i love about knuckles is that he is while he is gulible its stated that he is smart and clever. He is not stupid

I agree

Knuckles just longs for adventure! I agree that we need more lore to explain his neglect for the Master Emerald though...
Huge shoutout to the IDW comics for portraying him, and pretty much everyone excellently! Bummer you didnt mention it.

Knuckles has been my favorite since Sonic 3
Sonic R is an example of how at the time the franchise was in a true dark age, a formula game being forced to be a sonic game

@@Abner-gu3ve just because shadow was introduced a decade before doesnt mean anything. also please calm the fuck down lil bro
I thank the 2020’s for reviving Knuckles character again

4:26 the true dark era of sonic, because all the projects were being canceled and what came out was the little they managed to do
Man

Eh, even if she wasn't decanonized she would be stuck in spin-off limbo along with Babylon Rogues, Marine the Racoon, Mighty, Ray and Team Hooligan
