I sent them email some time ago that i want to order eye tracking ASAP and of course no answer. Now i checked it out and its out of stock already... i cannot count how many times i wrote but recieved no answer from pimax. Please do something about it. This stuff is quite expensive for us to be treated this way... BTW i own Pimax 5k+9 and iam more then happy with it.
I just got a Pimax 8KX this week. I am coming from using the HTC Vive on a OC I7-Q4770k with an OC 1080ti. I managed to get IL2 and DCS both working fine with the Pimax 8KX on this system using the upscale mode, with the full FOV. I am going to retire in a few months and am now building a system with a 5950x and RTX 3090. I can not wait to get this up and running with the Pimax, and to crank up the settings. I've been following you since around the time you started, and enjoyed your reviews of different games.
Martin, I have to admit I am very intrigued by this product. So if I'd order the 8KX DMAS version with both the eye- and hand tracking modules, what would you roughly assume to be the lead time? I already have an Index and a Quest, so I am not in a hurry, but I am very torn between the 8KX and the G2, leaning towards the 8KX since the wider FOV should be a massive advantage in my main application of flight simming. Also, foveated rendering benchmarks for DCS when? :D

Beginner 4K VR at @ $1.3K and requiring a $2K desktop to run it =) A big oversight is not adding any upholstery to the foam, for the price I would expect some nice leather or silicone.

We are working on a workaround solution for that when it comes to the 8KX. The other Pimax headsets supports that out-of-the-box as they have dual USB ports. Thanks mate! :)
Amazing Hedset. It would be nice, if there would be a vendor within Europe. I guess the fact that you had to import this device by yourself, with all the tax related issues, hinders many people from buying. Or at least we need some kind of guiding for making this purchase from china, it's not that easy...
There will be resellers in EU, but not initially until we fulfil all backers and orders. Komplett.no is an example reseller in Norway and Webhallen in Sweden, they already have it listed but not in stock.

The reason I haven't pulled trigger is 75hz 4k mode. Can you let them improve to 90hz. Reduce FOV to normal and you have enough bandwidth. I'm sorry 75hz is no go and play on 1440p defeat the purpose of this
I sold my 5K+ 6 months ago software was utter garbage and had hard time getting it to work and connect even after trouble shooting. These videos got me hyped for those releases. Has this changed yet especially with the 8K X or is there still headache trying to get everything to be connected on the software?
I am considering this when it comes out .. But i'm vary of the distortions that are mentioned. It seems some dont notice it or isn't bothered with it at all, but some are. Its an expensive piece of equipment and a massive upgrade from my Vive . I would've liked to have the opetunity to test if before buying to see if the distortions bother me, but there are no place i know of where it can be tested.
If youre by Nyc , B&H used to let you try VR headsets when they were open. A lot of us just bought in sight and seen and all had our wow moments though ... not sure if you’ll be disappointed

So I just received the 8K X today, and already I see that I am missing the thicker face foam mentioned in this video. Plus, I STILL have not received the x2 base stations or the x2 controllers which were part of the "full package" version of the kit on Kickstarter. Without the stations or controllers this headset is pretty much useless. And yes... I have put in yet another trouble ticket to see if they forgot to send the other equipment... and no, I don't have a VR kit from another manufacturer to test this with.
A very interesting headset! However, the distorsion and the binocular overlap aren't that great, it seems, and the Reverb G2 has better color, so I will probably go with the latter.

It's simple man, you need high-end graphic cards. Even with the dynamic foveated rendering you need at least a 2060 super otherwise you will not have fun. Actually a 2080 Ti is recommended
Just Wondering how fast now the 8KX will be shipped (and to australia) ,how it performs with the 3000 nvidia cards. also not far off, the ryzen 5000 series. prob worth the wait now until all 3000 series are released and available. Have a Vive cosmos atm with 3770k and 1060 gtx .Reverb G2 also works in flight sim 2020. Now my once in 8 year upgrade and need to choose carefully. Also the extra pimax models make it more confusing and will take a few reveiws to consider. Also aiming for a good movie VR experience

Those who have a questions about delivery date on preorders of the 8kx it will be around to 10-12 weeks for shipping if you ordered in July. Which means it will be between oct 15- oct 29. So if you are going to order it, I would do it now so you can get it by mid November. :D

Prior to ordering ENSURE that there are commercial flights to and from your country to the country of order. I'm still waiting for a replacement cable , its been 3 months and might be longer because there are no commercial flights to China/Asia from my country.
I am an 8KX preorder, but my IPD is 60. I previously owned a 5KXR. I really enjoyed the wide FOV, but my IPD seemed to give me troubles with pain at the bridge of my nose, and difficulties with getting the image clear in both eyes, with one lens being blurrier than the other at the inner edges (I did notice outer edge distortions, but they did not bother me). SweViver, is there any solution for low IPD users such as myself? Will the 8KX be suitable for my needs?
For now its only blue thats available. The blue is actually really nice looking ! We may have other colors later on, but not initially as it would require too much resources at this point.

Too expensive for my pocket, almost 2000 eur if u have to buy controllers and base stations, pay for shipping and customs, its just nuts... ill have to go with the HP Reverb G2 for the time being...:(...for me the limit is really under 1000 eur, more than that its impossible for me... Pimax should really team up with MS and make it compatible with WMR inside out tracking.
@Telepathic Membrane we really have to consider the games that the pimax buyers will be getting, for sims and a lot of other good games u really dont need the best tracking...inside out is all you need..i have wmr, and have tried a lot of games, never had limitations that would render the game unplayable... for flightsims or carsims, its completely unnecessary, u actually only need to be able to move ur head, and for that wmr works perfectly, having it integrated with this headset for 999 eur, buyable on amazon, i would probably give it a shot. We have to consider a lot of things, when lookin at that 1300 price tag. If support is good, if the software is more polished, if distortion is fairly solved, if the sound drivers are working correctly, if the case doesnt crack... if this was Oculus, i would risk it, but being Pimax, i really wont put so much money on it. They are going for the high end market after big failures at quality assurance, just because of the wide fov, i really dont understand this strategy...neither the fact that there is no stores in europe... if i pay in dollars do i have to pay customs if it comes from China?... if it had a problem can i send it back, where to? China?? really its a mess... and when it arrives to europe amazon stores it will be even more expensive... And after all this u realize thar u need a better gpu, because the res is insane, so u go for a 2080Ti and spend more 1200 dollars...then u realize its still not enough and gonna spend more money on eye tracking to have foveated dyn rendering...u wake up and have less 4000 eur on ur bank account...its nuts.

So the Deluxe MOS has speakers like the Index? That's a shame for any of us simmers that use motion, too much noise! On the website they still look more like headphones, that's what I was hoping for.
Really want to see tests with the dynamic foveated rendering. On Fallout 4 when using fixed foveated rendering the frametime jumps to 50 and makes it unusable and with it off it plays better (so no point)
Just got the 8KX and noticed that the cables are far too short. can you make a suggestion which cable work as an extension? The extension cables I got for the Index are not working...

I don't know if this info also applies to the 8KX eye tracking, but on my StarVR One which has built in eye tracking, there are leds all around the lenses. I can only see them light up when the screens go pitch black during loading. But during gameplay I either don't notice them or they aren't lit up.

Thanks for the video! I'm wondering if this Pimax 8K X be setup without a computer and used as a standalone media player (using the USB cables for power) to play 8k media content streamed via a DLNA server (such as Plex)?
It uses SteamVR tracking, just like Valve Index. It also has built-in 3DOF tracking (like Oculus Go) in case you dont have base stations/lighthouses and only use the headset with flight/racing simulators for example.

Something needs to be done about who runs the pimax official reddit page. They are calling customers liars when we complain about shipping prices being $150! I got banned from the page and so did many others! This is not how a company should be ran, I will no longer be purchasing from pimax.
I'd love to try 8KX, it must be a blast, but at $1,800 + taxes it is way out of my budget. I'm gonna go with more budget friendly HP Reverb G2 if Sebastian's review concludes it's a good headset in hope that high resolution + large FOV comes down in price in a couple of years so us peasants can afford it too :)
I totally understand, 1299 USD is not cheap, but its simply the only consumer-grade alternative for high-end VR with wide FOV and true 4K resolution per eye... Wish you good luck with your decision what headset to buy - either way, enjoy VR mate!

That is true also for the Artisan and Index. Those are the better headsets. Unfortunate that Pimax focus on 8KX and no Artisan availbale.

It's simple man, you need high-end graphic cards. Even with the dynamic foveated rendering you need at least a 2060 super otherwise you will not have fun. Actually a 2080 Ti is recommended

Just Wondering how fast now the 8KX will be shipped (and to australia) ,how it performs with the 3000 nvidia cards. also not far off, the ryzen 5000 series. prob worth the wait now until all 3000 series are released and available. Have a Vive cosmos atm with 3770k and 1060 gtx .Reverb G2 also works in flight sim 2020. Now my once in 8 year upgrade and need to choose carefully. Also the extra pimax models make it more confusing and will take a few reveiws to consider. Also aiming for a good movie VR experience

Can you use eye tracking and hand tracking at the same time?
Those who have a questions about delivery date on preorders of the 8kx it will be around to 10-12 weeks for shipping if you ordered in July. Which means it will be between oct 15- oct 29. So if you are going to order it, I would do it now so you can get it by mid November. :D

Why not a single Type-C USB port instead of 2 "generic" USB ports? As I see their attachments are using Type-C connector.
quick question about the deluxe audio strap: are the earphones detachable? I'm trying to decide between standard MAS versus deluxe MAS, and I'm worried about being able to use my own external headphones if I should happen to find the built-in ones lacking

Prior to ordering ENSURE that there are commercial flights to and from your country to the country of order. I'm still waiting for a replacement cable , its been 3 months and might be longer because there are no commercial flights to China/Asia from my country.

I am an 8KX preorder, but my IPD is 60. I previously owned a 5KXR. I really enjoyed the wide FOV, but my IPD seemed to give me troubles with pain at the bridge of my nose, and difficulties with getting the image clear in both eyes, with one lens being blurrier than the other at the inner edges (I did notice outer edge distortions, but they did not bother me).
SweViver, is there any solution for low IPD users such as myself? Will the 8KX be suitable for my needs?

For now its only blue thats available. The blue is actually really nice looking ! We may have other colors later on, but not initially as it would require too much resources at this point.
They come with a white or black protective skin though

Too expensive for my pocket, almost 2000 eur if u have to buy controllers and base stations, pay for shipping and customs, its just nuts... ill have to go with the HP Reverb G2 for the time being...:(...for me the limit is really under 1000 eur, more than that its impossible for me... Pimax should really team up with MS and make it compatible with WMR inside out tracking.
@Telepathic Membrane we really have to consider the games that the pimax buyers will be getting, for sims and a lot of other good games u really dont need the best tracking...inside out is all you need..i have wmr, and have tried a lot of games, never had limitations that would render the game unplayable... for flightsims or carsims, its completely unnecessary, u actually only need to be able to move ur head, and for that wmr works perfectly, having it integrated with this headset for 999 eur, buyable on amazon, i would probably give it a shot.
We have to consider a lot of things, when lookin at that 1300 price tag. If support is good, if the software is more polished, if distortion is fairly solved, if the sound drivers are working correctly, if the case doesnt crack... if this was Oculus, i would risk it, but being Pimax, i really wont put so much money on it. They are going for the high end market after big failures at quality assurance, just because of the wide fov, i really dont understand this strategy...neither the fact that there is no stores in europe... if i pay in dollars do i have to pay customs if it comes from China?... if it had a problem can i send it back, where to? China?? really its a mess... and when it arrives to europe amazon stores it will be even more expensive...
And after all this u realize thar u need a better gpu, because the res is insane, so u go for a 2080Ti and spend more 1200 dollars...then u realize its still not enough and gonna spend more money on eye tracking to have foveated dyn rendering...u wake up and have less 4000 eur on ur bank account...its nuts.

You should just change the name of your channel to SwePi since thats really the only headsets you ever talk about.
Really want to see tests with the dynamic foveated rendering. On Fallout 4 when using fixed foveated rendering the frametime jumps to 50 and makes it unusable and with it off it plays better (so no point)
Just got the 8KX and noticed that the cables are far too short.
can you make a suggestion which cable work as an extension? The extension cables I got for the Index are not working...

I wonder does the eye tracking LEDs disturb the vision when eye tracking is ON ? Do you see the LEDs with your eyes ?
I don't know if this info also applies to the 8KX eye tracking, but on my StarVR One which has built in eye tracking, there are leds all around the lenses. I can only see them light up when the screens go pitch black during loading. But during gameplay I either don't notice them or they aren't lit up.

pimax 8kx does not come with 2 face foams. It has only smaller one!

It uses SteamVR tracking, just like Valve Index. It also has built-in 3DOF tracking (like Oculus Go) in case you dont have base stations/lighthouses and only use the headset with flight/racing simulators for example.

Something needs to be done about who runs the pimax official reddit page. They are calling customers liars when we complain about shipping prices being $150! I got banned from the page and so did many others!
This is not how a company should be ran, I will no longer be purchasing from pimax.
I'd love to try 8KX, it must be a blast, but at $1,800 + taxes it is way out of my budget. I'm gonna go with more budget friendly HP Reverb G2 if Sebastian's review concludes it's a good headset in hope that high resolution + large FOV comes down in price in a couple of years so us peasants can afford it too :)
I totally understand, 1299 USD is not cheap, but its simply the only consumer-grade alternative for high-end VR with wide FOV and true 4K resolution per eye... Wish you good luck with your decision what headset to buy - either way, enjoy VR mate!
