  • This is a video to compare the HTC Vive Pro 2 with the Pimax 8K X. Two expensive VR headsets for those that demand the very best from their virtual reality gear.
I've unboxed and reviewed both these headsets, so be sure to watch those videos:
Pimax Vision 8K X VR unboxing and review • The very best VR heads...
HTC Vive Pro 2 unboxing and review • HTC Vive Pro 2 unboxin...
The HTC Vive Pro 2 - an upgraded version of the HTC Vive Pro that boasts a new display with "best-in-class" visuals and some seriously impressive specs.

Specs of the HTC Vive Pro 2 include:
Fast switch LCD IPS panel, 2448 x 2448 pixels per eye (4896 x 2448 total)
120Hz refresh rate, 'true' 120-degree field of view
Dual-stack lens setup with RGB Subpixel design
    57 to 70.5mm IPD adjustment
G-sensor, gyroscope, proximity, IPD sensor, SteamVR Tracking V2.0
Eye relief with lens distance adjustment
    Adjustable Hi-Res certified headphones
    Integrated dual microphones

Highlights of the Vive Pro 2 include:
Comfort - this is one of the most comfortable VR headsets I've tried. Nicely balanced with superb padding
Visuals - the Vive Pro 2 has the best display with a wide field of view and fantastic graphics if you have a machine powerful enough to run it
Sound - the hi-res certified headphones offer great sound and block out surrounding noise with ease. They're also loud and offer great positional audio
Passthrough - the software now allows you to use passthrough via the cameras, so you can see the room around you with ease without taking the headset off.
    Lowlights:
Straight line lenses - these are frustrating because you can see the lenses more easily which ruins the experience a bit in my mind
Nose guard - the rubber protection here sometimes blocks the lenses so you can't see as well.
The minimum required specs to run the Vive Pro 2 headset are:
Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 (equivalent or better) / Memory: 8GB RAM (or more)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 or AMD Radeon RX480 (equivalent or better)
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 or Windows 10
Video out: DisplayPort 1.2 (or newer)
USB ports: 1x USB 3.0 (or newer)
The recommended specifications for the Vive Pro 2's full 5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate are:
Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 (equivalent or better) / Memory: 8GB RAM (or more)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 (equivalent or better)
Video out: DisplayPort 1.4 (or newer)
USB ports: 1x USB 3.0 (or newer)
    OS: Microsoft Windows 10
The Pimax Vision 8K X, an absolute beast of a VR headset and most probably the best VR headset available. It's also the most power hungry, as you'll need a super machine in order to make the most of the dual 4K screens.
The thing that impressed me most is the size of the lenses, which are utterly massive. The thing I hated was how much of a faff it was to get working perfectly.
See deals on the Pimax 8K:
    Amazon US - amzn.to/3BtcGWn

    Amazon DE - amzn.to/3kNOZ4t
    Amazon FR - amzn.to/3mOpnqF
    Amazon IT - amzn.to/3yBrBf2
The Pimax Vision 8K X has some serious specs that include:
    Customized low persistence liquid(CLPL) screen
Dual screens sporting 4K resolution each (3840x2160 twice!)
    15ms(typical) MTP latency
60 Hz, 75 Hz (Native), 90 Hz (Native) or 114 Hz (Upscaled) refresh rate
Upto 200 degree feld of view
Interpupillary Distance (IPD) adjustment from 60 to 70mm
    9-axis accelerometer sensors
    SteamVR tracking
Dual 3.5mm headphone jack, 1x USB Type-C, microphone, speakers
    Dimensions 11 x 4.3 x 5.4 inches / 280.1 x 108.2 x 135.9mm
    Weight 2.2 pounds (997.9g)
    Minimum recommended specs:
    GPU
    NVIDIA®RTX 2060 or above(Upscale mode)
    NVIDIA®RTX 2080 or above(Native mode)
    CPU lntel I5-9400 or above
    RAM 8GB or more
    Output USB2.0/3.0, DP1.2
Its worth noting that the headset is available to buy on its own or with Vive controllers and Valve base stations. It will also work with other Vive/Valve devices including hand and eye tracking modules and Valve Index Controllers.
I thought this was the best VR headset I've tried in terms of resolution and graphical performance, but also the most frustrating headset to use for a number of reasons. It's a great device, if you have patience and technical know how, but not if you're new to VR.

I'm the owner of a Vive Pro 1 (and I before I had the first Vive), which I use almost every day, at least one hour a day. It has now several thousands hours of use and I came where to see what will be my next VR headset, because I know that the Vive Pro won't last forever. The thing I must fear is to pass from OLED screens to LCD screens.

Worth noting, lighthouse tracking is also inside out tracking. It's just markered insideout tracking (opposed to markerless inside out tracking). Pimax, index, vive etc all tracking from the headset. The headset looks outwards for the base stations. Only the Rift CV1 is outside in tracking.

@Watching UA-cam Daily nah too much sde for 2021 and the fov is tiny, might as well get one of those arapara 5k headsets that also have tiny fov but at least no sde at all due to micro oled,i wouldnt even consider that cause idgaf about blacks,to me after sde fov is second.

@Watching UA-cam Daily well i dont notice washed out blacks and the colors pop alot with my settings,on pro the sde looks like a mosquito nest and the fov like looking trough toilet paper rolls lol tried it long time ago when i had a rift s and didnt like it let alone now when i have an 8kx,those downsides are way more noticeable than the color black, oled will also never ever be as sharp or bright as lcd, mini led is the future.

The most advanced, and yet, still unfinished, HMD available.
Have had my new PiMax 8KX for about a month now and during that time it has worked for about a week.
The list of problems just gets longer and longer.
Can not work with steam - Steam just crashes as soon as it sees the Pimax. Tech support says reload steam, reload Pitool, Reload SteamVR. Try this setting and try that setting. But it still does not work.
It is even difficult to turn on! Sometime it conects straight away and other times not at all. Sometimes you get a green light (all good), sometime a purple light (reprojection is on) and sometime an orange light (no idea). There is no way to control this behaviour.
The Pimax was not designed to be used with steam. In fact I would say that the product is not complete and still being tested. And you can be a beta tester for only $2000.
A serious waste of time and money and I would be happy to get rid of mine for 75% of what it cost me.
Sad to say that it is just not ready for the average VR ready computer competent consumer.

The Pimax 8kx just cost too much, is it compatible with all Steam vr games and Oculus games?, I heard getting Pimax vr headsets getting to work properly with Steam vr and Oculus games is a real hassle, how good is the fov on it compared to other vr headsets, is it a weird looking fov where everything is stretched out or is decent enough for most games? its just cost too much money and too much of a risk, and how good could this headset be for most vr games and not just sim racing vr games, the price is just way too high for me

why ever opt for the Vive wands? they are the worst controllers, and the worst product to ever exist.
2 of the 2.0 controllers cost the nearly same as 4 knuckle controllers in my country.
2 of the 1.0 controllers cost more than 2 knuckle controllers.
    at $490 for 2 x 1.0s, and $750 for 2x 2.0s I think I'd rather wait the 2-3 weeks shipping time for the $400 knuckle controller sets.

The Vive Pro 2 looks like a higher quality vr headset, the 8KX looks cheap and flimsy, don't trust Pimax anyways, there quality control has been questioned in the past with their vr headsets, Karl Gosling on UA-cam said himself he didn't care for the quality of the 8KX

    • @claybomb1064

I’ve heard the opposite. Lots of reviewers prefer the pimax. The quality and customer service is way better now. If you have a small ipd and a weird shaped head like Karl the pimax won’t work for you.

Pimax were dodgy 2016-2019 but over the last year or 2 they really have become the best PCVR headset manufacturer out there. I wouldn't pay full price for an 8kx but the 5ks is well worth it.
