If you’re in a room like the one in the video without windows or super bright light sources in the back the nano display is not just pointless, it’s counter productive. The standard display gives a clearer colors and a sharper image.
@user-rh3ht3nv1c After 6 months of usage I would still take the standard display over the nano one all day long. So much richer contrast and colors, and no problem with reflections at all as long as you don't have a bright window in your back.
He has lights everywhere and, just like the sun, create glare. I got this but chose to nano because the contrast is more accurate for video and photos editing and even viewing in general.
Hi. On a deal, I’m getting a nano textured Apple Studio Display for $300 less than the one with standard glass. I don’t have any light in front of the monitor, so reflections aren’t a concern . I don’t mind paying the extra for the standard glass, if that’s the better option. What would you recommend?
@@JHawksince you have lights in front of the display, it absolutely makes sense. But in my case, I don’t have a single light in front of the display that would cause reflections. So would I benefit from the nano texture in my setup? And I’m a bit concerned about the reduction in sharpness and contrast with the nano texture that many people talk about. Do you feel that’s not significant?
I used to think games forking out big bucks for 144 or 240hz was stupid. After using M1Max macbook pro for a few weeks, I take it all back. As I get older, my eyes get worse and the retina screen is much better on my eyes. Now when I look at regular windows laptops, it just looks like crap and hurts my eyes. I could wear glasses, but I hate wearing glasses.
i have the same experience. i have a maxed macbook pro and whenever I use any other screen or monitor, the resolution just looks ugly and I can’t use them 😅
Hi, thanks for your review ! One sole additional question: what are your thoughts regarding the height adjustability stand? You don’t have it, but do you believe your display would have been better with it… or not ? Thanks !!
how does it handle glare? I currently use the Apple Thunderbolt Display, love the monitor but I always need to close the window blinds all day to avoid reflective glare.
@@JHawk Have you used the Thunderbolt display before? It looks super attractive to me, but the studio display seems more practical with the non-reflective nano glass. Some are saying the regular glass doesn't have much glare either on it, but I imagine the up price is worth it if no glare and windows open, etc is a game changer for you. Do you use mac studio or mac mini? THANKS
I had the Apple Thunderbolt Display since about 2011-2012 and it just went out on me. I m sure I could have fixed it and had it last another couple of years but it’s time That thing lasted about 11 years. Incredible and as you said the thing STILL looks better in terms of display sharpness and aesthetics than the alternatives
You're not the only one, but remember that this isn't for gamers; people who buy it want accurate colors. Also, he's right-it's an Apple product, so if something goes wrong, you have a place to go, which is very important.
@@valentinomc I have a MB pro and I currently use two ASUS which cost me half the price… I do prefer apple products but 60hz for that price cannot be justified by any means
We just got one for editorial work, the 120hz is not a concern when you are doing books 🙂 PS: btw we did a lot of testing of the nano texture screen; it is terrible for work that involves fonts, but it is great for photo editing. PS2: Updating to add that I wouldn't recommend either for video editing, it doesn't do HDR60.
Yeah, as a software developer, I've been concerned about the extra fuzziness I've seen from photos of the nano vs standard glass. The glare isn't as bad for me as the soft/faded filter that text gets with any kind of matte distortion.
Would be interested in anything more you have to say about how this display serves your needs for editorial work better than others. I’m considering getting one. My work is also based heavily in text documents.
@@hogleripley so far, still love it. It has very good coverage of DCI-P3 but average Adobe RGB (in monitors under $2,000 it is always one of those that is good but never both), this is preferable for any kind of photographic work, unless for some reason you specialize in making photo books of green parrots in the jungle. For video it doesn't do HDR60 so I wouldn't buy it for that kind of work.
@@hogleripley the DCI-P3 thing means that it gets better yellows and reds, which is good if you (like me) like to set the background colour of your InDesign files to match the colour of the paper that will be used in production.
@@JHawk Agreed. Perhaps other than something such as FaceTime, I can’t think of any reason to. I mean, who watches anything on a monitor tilted 90 degrees besides a radiologist?
Personally I hate genius bar, repair stupid expensive esp if something fails that is not common or doesnt become a big deal until years later, youre paying out the wazoo. @@JHawk For record, writing from the normal display. Tons of reflection on screen this time of day, but doesnt hamper productivity since its pretty bright. Still curious to try nano glass.

Very nice video, brother. Regarding the monitor, if someone has busses video photography, it is an excellent investment that will pay you back if you are not in that business, just stay away.

Why shoot anything on a camera not with a wide angle?
