IHI IS38 turbocharger facts

This video shows an interesting fact about the IS38 9VA04 turbocharger from IHI. The clearance between the Abradable seal in the compressor housing and the compressor wheel blades make contact when new and uninstalled. Once the turbocharger rotates for the first time, the seal will wear against the compressor wheel which makes slight contact by a measurement measured in microns. This is something intended by the manufacturing plant in Japan. Hope you learned something.
