I had the great pleasure to woodshed with them after they performed at our chorus function in Elyria, Ohio. I was 15 singing full voice tenor.

I was 9 in 1971 when they won. Barbershopping ever since I saw them in Appleton, Wisconsin that year. Even have an autographed copy of GENTLEMEN PREFER BARBERSHOP signed by all four.

I was 9 and grew up in Woodbine, Ill about 193 South. Our family missed your concert but went to Chicago to hear the 4 Renegades and the Sundowners for an evening barbershop show. I played the groves off that Renegade record.

All 4 were spot on. What a tenor. What a baritone. This was a quartet with 4 dominating voices. And they did not need to ham it up with choreography. They concentrated on the chords. A blind man was the main audience.

My Brother and I both KC and Wichita barbershopper's took our Mother, KC Chorus Sweet Adelines and her quartet's lead singer to the Liberal KS Show Featuring the MHF's. The HAPS did their Wizard of Oz set that night my Mom's Lead singer laughed her a$$ off with the performance of the Lions TAIL 'Only Had The Nerve" version. After the afterglow, as expected a Midwest tradition, we were invited to an ever glow at the chapter presidents home. Something I was familiar with but Mom's Lead was floored to sit on a living room and witness a personal quartet performance like no one else seldom gets!!!! Wow an evening to remember!!!!

Had the honor singing with them in Long Beach Ca, when I was a senior in high school 1972. Sang Back in the Old Routine. I will NEVER forget that experience. They were my first Quartet to shape my desire to sing Barbershop. What a great group of men. I went on to win a Gold Medal with the Masters Of Harmony in San Francisco 1990 knowing The Gentleman's Agreement used their kindness and generosity to help and encourage a young man to follow this terrific hobby. Thank You Gentleman's Agreement.

As a little kid, I saw Gentlemen's Agreement many times in Traverse City, Mi. They played their retirement show at Interlochen Arts Academy. I was there for that too. My dad had me be an usher. What an honor! I have a cassette tape of the show! The Renegades we're there too. By then, they had gone through 5 Baritones during their career. They called themselves Pieces of Eight. They introduced each member on the stage during a song where each one came on the stage singing their part. They sang an 8 part harmony that was humorous, but marvelously done! My dad was a Barbershopper for 30 years. So I was brought up with watching many great International Champions over the years. The G. A. had done their first show in TC, so it made sense to come back for the last. Interlochen had built a beautiful open air concert hall by that time.

this video can be filed under 'oh my god, how does this have only 1700 views?'. i must have watched this 10 times all the way through since i discovered it. unbelievable chops for a group that had not been playing together for years. so glad they played 'spiritual medley', in general their set list reflects the best from both of their albums. a little sad to not have glenn be part of the festivities. bob is an excellent MC for the group. while far from the most complex, the tag in 'ma shes making eyes at me' will always be one of my favorites. thank you thank you thank you for posting!

Absolute classic! Made the year after I joined BABS here in the UK.
Proving their champion status still after all those years was great to hear.

I much prefer the classic style of barbershop. The over-the-top glissandos, for me is just showing off and not simply singing a beautiful tune. Classical music has gone this way too starting back around 1982.

In 71' I was a young teen, playing guitar, owned albums of Beatles, CCR, Johnny Cash, etc.....BUT I also sang lead in the Jr. High Quartet, and owned the 33.3 LP of the finalists in the 71' championship. I still have the album, but no record player:-( I wish someone would post that album.

And I'm happy to report that, at least as of last summer (and I've heard nothing to the contrary) that Drayton Justice (lead) is alive, kickin' and making music.

Roger, Drayton's singing has been sidelined (hopefully temporarily) by surgery, but he is still alive and kickin'. He hangs with the Big Chicken Chorus (of which I'm a member) in Marietta, GA, and recently served as installing officer at our installation banquet: facebook.com/BigChickenChorus/photos/ms.c.eJxlzMkNgEAQA8GMkM14rvwTQ7wQ3m9J3QQL4GgjBbIvfrKHZBxCE0Wlf3DI7RX~;nwZqrVL6WZMuXD9rXDre6gGHZTHp.bps.a.10160018493330117.1073741851.106638500116/10160018494110117/?type=3&theater

I sang with the Davenport, Iowa Chordbusters and The Gentlemen's Agreement was on our Holiday In Harmony show in either 1971 or 72. We were the Central States District Chorus Champions when they won their Quartet Championship ( I think it was in New Orleans). We finished 6th in the Chorus competition. I have one of their albums. I wonder if I can get them on CD?

It is from a 1984 Charlotte, NC SPEBSQSA show featuring Gentlemen's Agreement, Bluegrass Student Union and Midnight Express, my newly formed quartet and soon to be district champions. A similar show was taped in 1988. I sang lead.
I believe the GA were doing a reprise tour since they were kidding about fitting into their old outfits. Great Q.

+David Lorenz I do not believe this.
Could any quartet sing this song the very way they did on the contest stage?
Although that tool from the Autotowners is not there. His replacement isn't nearly so cute. I think he went with his new enterprise by then.
No wonder Justin became a Suntone about that time.

Where are the comments from the michigan chapters? The bay city mich. Chapter was heavily influenced by the gentlemens agreement.
