When the old highway bridge was replaced, it became a nature area for the volunteers who planted lots of flowers, plants in crafty scenes. It's worth while to visit this wonderful bridge-garden where so much love was put into the 0.1 mile stretch overlooking a beautiful pristine river. Free.
Finale - Balancing Parts with Velocity
Переглядів 5709 років тому
Balancing parts in Finale is very useful especially when playing a cappella arrangements. Without proper balancing, it can be annoying to hear those unabashed harmony parts hogging the landscape. (The leads hate it when it's not their show and most of them continue with this attitude if forced to sing harmony.) This tutorial helps the Finale user to balance playback volumes on specific parts in...

As a little kid, I saw Gentlemen's Agreement many times in Traverse City, Mi. They played their retirement show at Interlochen Arts Academy. I was there for that too. My dad had me be an usher. What an honor! I have a cassette tape of the show! The Renegades we're there too. By then, they had gone through 5 Baritones during their career. They called themselves Pieces of Eight. They introduced each member on the stage during a song where each one came on the stage singing their part. They sang an 8 part harmony that was humorous, but marvelously done! My dad was a Barbershopper for 30 years. So I was brought up with watching many great International Champions over the years. The G. A. had done their first show in TC, so it made sense to come back for the last. Interlochen had built a beautiful open air concert hall by that time.

All 4 were spot on. What a tenor. What a baritone. This was a quartet with 4 dominating voices. And they did not need to ham it up with choreography. They concentrated on the chords. A blind man was the main audience.

Larry Lane (Lead in New Attitude and tenor in Midnight Express) had twice earlier directed the Charlotte chorus at Internationals. After New Attitude, he eventually won the district as lead with Zero Hour. Later, (as bass?) he also won the district with Oneders.

Well,Now I am still blown away by these guys and am so grateful for dad's influence. He would have me listen to the Tenor from the Suntones and my God what a sweet voice. And naturally I always loved the Slamkas.Dad actually won the District Championship with Jack in 1981.

George Gibb (the baritone) went on to sing in other big quartets as well as become a popular coach. Scott Brannon was the lead of CK you mentioned. Your comment prompted me to make some corrections to the Barbershop Wiki Project that had Steve Thacker's (bass) name as "Scott". Steve later sang bass with my quartet "Midnight Express".

I joined SPEBSQSA in February 1981. My very first barbershop show was in April that year and Bluegrass Student Union was a guest quartet. I was astonished! About a year later I was in a quartet which was invited to sing at a Detroit area barbershop show, and guess who was the other guest quartet. Yep. Bluegrass Student Union. I tried to play it cool like I belonged there, and they treated us as equals. When I changed parts from tenor to lead, Ken was my role model. He still is in some ways.

I sang with the Davenport, Iowa Chordbusters and The Gentlemen's Agreement was on our Holiday In Harmony show in either 1971 or 72. We were the Central States District Chorus Champions when they won their Quartet Championship ( I think it was in New Orleans). We finished 6th in the Chorus competition. I have one of their albums. Thanks for the compliment for I never have heard that comparison. When I think about, I believe you are right. The only comparison I had heard before was from coach Don Clause who said the Midnight Express quartet reminded him of the old Fordamatics (sp? Please help me Lee Plaskoff or anyone) quartet. I assume I sounded like that lead to Don. Nowdays, can you believe I am a deep second bass?

Had the honor singing with them in Long Beach Ca, when I was a senior in high school 1972. Sang Back in the Old Routine. I will NEVER forget that experience. They were my first Quartet to shape my desire to sing Barbershop. What a great group of men. I went on to win a Gold Medal with the Masters Of Harmony in San Francisco 1990 knowing The Gentleman's Agreement used their kindness and generosity to help and encourage a young man to follow this terrific hobby. Thank You Gentleman's Agreement.

The year: 1979. The place: Minneapolis Convention Center. The event: the SPEBSQSA annual competition. As a high school junior who was new to singing in and experiencing barbershop music, I was invited by my friend (who introduced me to the SPEBSQSA world) to be a "runner" during the event, meaning that he and I would bring the quartets from their dressing room to the "ready" spot in the wings. This gave us plenty of opportunity to chat with the various quartets, and two of them who made a major impact on me with their genuine friendliness were The 139th Street Quartet, and The Bluegrass Student Union. To the BSU guys, if any of you read this: that brief interaction meant more to me than you could know. To hear you share your immense talent and charisma on stage, and then treat a little high school punk with the respect and friendliness that you did, made that entire experience extremely special to me. Gentlemen....THANK YOU!!

+Steve Thacker The "thanks" go to you for supplying these recordings many years ago. Since the quality of the videos could be improved, I will be glad to repost if you can get some "closer to original" copies to me. Cincinnati Kids was a pioneer for interactive stage presence. I know my quartets used CK's performances as blue prints for visual performances, flow of show and performing naturally while hiding technique. I also appreciate that your being bass had a strong influenced in the Kids. Google "Midnight Express" to see what we stole from CK. You'll probably see a lot of the Kids there too.

"I Told Them All About You Dear" is a good example of this. Such amazing control. I have the most fun singing tenor along with their recordings. Fun songs and great arrangements!
