Rest In Peace, Bill. 😢 My heartfelt condolences to your family and friends. I stumbled upon your good video, looking for help with my outlet that has no power. After watching the video, I have read the comments of your passing. Now my mood has entirely changed.
I feel so bad to learn that he died after watching the video. But it was so well done that I’m thinking he is still helping so many people after his death. I am going to try now and see if I can figure out what’s going on with my patio covered power outlet that is not producing any power. Thanks Bill.
Very well done and a help. Thanks And knowing he has passed away, I'm thankful that in our day we have things like video to remember folks. And thankful for good people like him who used their talents to help others.
Just read people's messages regarding Bill's passing and it is very sad to find this out that he is no longer with us! God bless you Bill and my sincere condolences to his loving family! My prayers will always be with him and his family!

Thank you Bill for all you contributed during your time on this earth. I've watched your videos hundreds of times over the years as I've tackled these projects. Condolences to the family.
Oh man, you stopped the video right when you were getting ready to explain about the wiring being bad! That's exactly what I was waiting to hear you talk about! You really do a good job explaining this stuff to some of us novice's out here! What's up man? My name is Mike and I live in St. Charles, Missouri, I live with my room mate in a doublewide mobile home that was manufactured back in 1993 when all they used were those stab in the back receptacle's, every one of them are the stab in type! About 2 month's ago we had a bit of a cool spell and my room mate plugged in her space heater and all the socket's in her room all the way to the living room stopped working, along with the ceiling fan, the porchlight outside of the main entrance and 5 more receptacle's in the living room! I figured the space heater probably couldn't handle the load, so I went to the breaker box to reset the circuit breaker, when I opened the door on the panel box all of the circuit breaker's were in the on position! I found the one that controls her bedroom and I manually turned it off then on again to try & reset it but nothing happened! I just decided to pull the breaker in question and ran up to my home depot to buy a new one, it is a double 15 amp and each switch can be turned off & on independant of each other. I installed the new one and, "wah lah", everything worked again and I was the hero !!! 3 night's later she went to bed and decided to read a book so she went to turn on a little led lamp beside her bed and all of the light's and receptacle's went out again, a little led lamp overloaded the brand new breaker I just replaced 3 day's earlier !!! I watched all the diy video's on "You Tube" and I heard nothing good about these back stab receptacle's and I intend to replace all of them soon just to save myself more headache's in the future! I seem to think that one of these receptacle's has probably got a short where the wire was stabbed in at and replacing the receptacle should solve the problem, the only thing is I don't know which one it is so I'm just gonna start replacing them all ! I watched your video and you seem very wise when it comes to this stuff and I would respect your advice with this issue! Would it be too much trouble to get your opinion on this please, I would greatly appreciate it my friend! What would you do in this situation ??? Thanks a million bro! ✌

Good video, Good sound, a good stable camera! You also took your time explaining several possible problems, and how to resolve those problems. All it good!!
I know am a bit too late. Just came across this video ,wasn't planning on watching electrical but decide to check it out, boy i tell you never thought you can bang on the wall for troubleshooting, you just school me. Thank you sir!
I love your videos. Because of your videos I have to depend less and less on my electrician. Which means more money back in my pocket. Also you help me get over the fear of electricity. Your videos are very instructional very informative very professional looking and easy to comprehend. Thank you again
One of my outlets in my house didn't work today I guess my PS5 must have short-circuited so I watched his video and I got it back up but I didn't know he died now I feel bad. Wtf 😔
One step that I feel should be added at the beginning: Test whether the circuit that your “dead” outlet is on has a GFCI outlet that has popped and, if so, reset the GFCI and re-check if the “dead” outlet has power.
October 24th will be 3 years since Bill's passing. Eternal Rest Grant Unto Bill, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace!
Extremely fascinating. Also yes don't touch the leads. I touched one of the prongs on my laptop charger while plugging it in and my arm tingled in a scary way. I've been careful ever since.
lemme tell you something !😂i go to school for electricity && i learned more from you in this 10 min video first video then i do w my instructor for 4 hours every thursday
I enjoy videos like this that give an opportunity to learn from a professional. That being said, I believe the term "electrocute" isn't being used properly here. There is a risk of getting "shocked," but electrocution is a term that means to be killed by electricity. If there's a risk of dying, I'd say we shouldn't be trying to use a UA-cam video for DIY advice.
It's part of the jargon like HIGH- VOLTAGE! when it's the amperage that kills, you much more so than the "voltage". A taser for example might be 50,000 volts but less than a milliamp.
Bill , My two bedrooms are on the same breaker no problems up to now . I came home from a weekend away and didnt have power in those rooms . I narrowed it down to a light switch , replaced it . Now I only have 110 on all the plug ins and no lights . you ever heard of this ?
I have to watch all his videos because I bought a house in South Carolina and I don't know a whole lot about electrical but I do know that the framing addition was done wrong. Whoever ran all the ducting for the HVAC under the house did it wrong. The plumbing I'm going to have to tear out and redo. And whoever put the metal roof made a mess and now I've got dry rot. I don't have the money to hire an electrician I'm a disabled vet on a small income but I got to make sure this place is safe....
A great tutorial. One outlet on the wall outside of my house is powerless. So hopefully it is just a bad outlet. I am always scared of electricity, so I haven't opened it up and test with a voltage tester.
Eyetoobur if it’s outside of you’re house, the GFCI might be tripped. All that means is the button on the front of the outlet (like the ones in your kitchen or bathroom near the sink or shower) might need to be pushed to reset it. Hope this helps!
Great video just one troubleshooting tip to add, I hope it helps. When you do a voltage test with your meter you want to also check voltage between ground and neutral, if it's anything but 0 volts you have an issue as well
A plug tester. Praise the Lord and thank you I'm a new subscriber I can buy a plug tester instead of an electrician oh, at least for now you gave me hope.
Well, while I'm sorry to hear of his passing, I had to point out a few issues I'm seeing just 5 mins in. 1) He left the red probe in as he moved the black probe from neutral to ground... that's a big "no-no" where that makes the black probe HOT! 2) Touching the metal probes while testing won't "electrocute" you on an AC circuit but, will on a DC one. What he should've said was ELECTRIFIED; you only get "electro-CUTED" when you DIE from being electrified too long. The point is moot to him now but to all those who look to this video for instruction NEED TO KNOW 🫵
Your video is excellent thank you. My question is if I am remodeling my bathroom and I am putting in a new niche but there is a wire right in the middle of it. How do I add more wire to go around the niche? Thank you
Hi Bill, i have one circuit breaker that all the outlets have power but not enough to turn on a radio. There is also one wall light that does have light but very dim light. Suggestions where to statt first? Thank you
This man he suppose to be a teacher ,some of them they are just explaining themselves how they know it but not for Teaching others but this man he explained to someone to understand it..👌
Good job, a word of warning to amateurs though, whenever dealing with high volts it's always safer to use one hand when you are probing your outlets, so if something happens then electricity won't flow through your chest stopping your heart
Has the second video in the series been released? I have an outlet with no power to the screws and a switch with no current (tested with a no touch sensor).
Thanks for posting, I have a question, what is the probability of dying from getting shocked by 120v with 15 or 20 amps behind it. I ask because you said we will get "electrocuted" many times in this posting. There is a big difference between shocked and electrocute. Just asking for clarification. Thanks.
I have a open a reversed neutral in the kitchen. I change all the outlets, even change a light switch. I even changed my circuit breakers. I even checked the junction box that joins in the kitchen. And I still couldn't find the open neutral in the kitchen. Could it be behind a wall? Could it be that it's touching the 🔥 hot somewhere? Can it be a nail hitting it? What could it be? What can cause this?
take out the outlet and check voltage between the neutral and hot terminals. If you still get 70 Volts, your voltmeter could be bad. Check your voltmeter on a good outlet for 120V.
My Wall Outlet doesn't have an outlet connected to the Breaker. It's only a Breaker for each room in house. I have a telephone, which is connected to a wall outlet, and it doesn't give a dial tone. Phone battery has life. I want to ask you, I exchanged a different modem for a One Line modem. I had to replace Cable boxes because of this modem. Now, my Kitchen telephone has no dial tone at all because I replaced the router modem. Did I lose my telephone Jack in Wall due to this exchange? Thank You!
Changing out the outlets in a house testing with a plug tester and all is good and green until the third room and now the whole house tests bad ground. I replaced everything the way it was in the previous outlets. HOW DID I MESS THIS UP???
Hi Bill, love your video, but I hve a problem with my socket outlet. I bought a socket tester n when I plug in my socket tester to socket tester with off position all the light are on, any idea what's wrong with it.
I have an outlet on two sides at the front yard and at the backyard for car plugin, but both are not working. I have pushed the test button present at the breaker in the main panel but it does not work for any side. Is there any possibility that both side outlets are faulty? I am considering it very rare, but not sure that both outlets become faulty at the same time. Should I check both outlets or possibly there is a fault in the breaker (which has a white test small thing on it) in the main panel?
Hi Bill, You started to mention about the main breaker but you didn't finish explain it. When you don't know which breaker for a specific outlet, should you turn off just that main breaker or all the breakers including the main please?
Bill passed away in 2016. I'm no electrician. I always turn the main breaker off even though my box is marked very well by the builder. Get yourself a basic tool that checks for voltage before you touch any wires. I use a no touch tool that's about $12.00. Always check the tool on a live wire to make sure the tool itself is working. Never assume the power is cut off and your tool is working. Good luck.
I don't recommend turning off the main breaker unless absolutely necessary. Use a tester, radio, light, etc. to determine which breaker is the one you want. Then verify with a multimeter that the power is off for both receptacles on a duplex receptacle. If you do turn off the main breaker, turn off all circuit breakers first and turn them back on last.
I need tbe next video 😅😂😭 I have taught myself so much today and fixed/repaired/replaced so many things in my home... But the kitchen light has been completely uninstalled, live wires have been tested, breakers have been flipped ans tested ans still no power coming through. I was really hoping to be able to skip getting an electrician as I'm broke and HAVE to learn these skillsets. Thank you so much. Hopefully I can find your other video here in a sec and its something as simple as a fuse issue at the breaker box that I missed or something i havent tried yet or didnt do correctly. ( Also, maybe my balllast ISN'T out afterall. Either way, im upgrading to a new LED fixture when this all said and done lol)
This may be an unrelated question, but I'll ask anyway. I've got 4 controllers and they all won't charge. I've used two different chargers in both of my outlets and they didn't work. I also used a camera, it showed a light but it wouldn't bring in audio like it should. Question is, has my two chargers outlets burned out?
Very helpful but how can I troubleshoot which breaker is bad if I don't know which one powers those outlets? I have a few outlets that dont work and im assuming its the breaker unless theres a bad wire feeding them.
Great video...mine says hot grd rev but when I turn off the breaker it has a sound but to turn on you don't hear the click sound..what are your idea change the breaker ..any help will do. Be blessed
I have a problem with a circuit in the house. The breaker is tripped, and will not click into place. Switched the breaker with another, and same result. My guess is: there's a short somewhere in the line, or possibly a bad appliance, I guess. How do I find it? My plan was to check every receptacle and light fixture, checking for burnt spots in all the wire connections, etc. Is there an easier and/or faster way to troubleshoot?
Bill good video. I never new what the tampered outlet look like. Have you ever had, "clicking" on a wall outlet that has a two light switches and a tamper resistant plug? Any ideas as to what it could be? The tamper resistant plug is a GFI. Thanks Jim
One other thing to consider when there isn't any power that the outlet might be a switched outlet by the electrician having broke the side making it a split outlet and a switch near the door to control the lamp or other device plugged into that half of the outlet.
I have 2light swich not working I change the swich and same thing I tested with a regular tester and bees hot but the ectricity seems weak, can you suggest me WHAT TO DO PLEASE
Hi , I just changed a plug and replaced it with a new identical one. I put the wires securely in the same places and finished the installation. I went back and turned the breaker on and it trips, along with the main breaker to the whole house. This house (my sister's place) is just over 20 years old, and the old plug socket was working but the bottom plug had a black smoke stain on it ( it still functioned). Could it be the breaker itself? It's a 15 amp Kitchen split, a double breaker.
@@lopee161 Oh, so sorry to hear, may he rest in peace. I have since found and fixed my electrical problem and I didn't remove my question because I thought it may help others with the same issue. My problem was a simple quick fix, I removed the tab on the new outlet plug, which was causing the breaker to jump. Thank you Eli Lopez, Bless you.
I have several lights in a hallway that all went out at same time, outlets in same are out also. breakers do not look to be tripped, rest all of them, lights still out. Is that likely a breaker issue or bad breaker(s)? Not sure which beraker controls those lights, so do I just need to check them all?
Hello I have a question. I have two wires coming out of an electrical box. One of them brings power and the other goes somewhere I don’t know When I put my voltmeter test leads on the hot and neutral of the power wire it reads 119 as expected. When I put the test leads on the hot wire of he power wire and the box itself it reads 67 volts What could be the problem? Does this mean that the difference between my hot wire and the box is not 119v? Does it mean the box is not at ground voltage? Is that because that other wire (amor cable) is leaking 52 volts to the box, so the difference between the box and my hot wire is 67? Am I thinking about this the right way? Thanks
HI I have a big question I have a problem. My electric wires have the black n white wires. Then a copper ground wire that has been extended. Today I noticed it is loose. Can I remove the outlet and still use the AC current on my meter and touch the wires and see if there is any power to either side? I have a kitchen outlet with 2 black and 2 white and 1 copper ground. I've changed out the outlet 3 times and never could figure out why it could be moved and at some times it worked then nothing. Today I put a brand new outlet in the wall n then again I felt the ground wire was loose at the splice of the 2 copper ends. The pinched off end is possibly not grounded..I still need to know if I have hot wire to the area. As I have the wiring that if 1 goes out any going past the one the next lines will not work. 😥 yep I'm at my waist end with this issue and being a female we still get it from both ends. People think we don't know anything about anything. Any help would be of help. Perhaps a video on this subject of I'll make a Help video so others can help me with this issue. Ty soo much.
Hi. Good info. I changed a gfi outlet because it would no longer reset and had no power. replaced it with regular outlet and has slight power but not enough to fully power a led nightlight. I would plug it in and see it want a small dim light. What could it be?? Bad wires or bad breaker?

It's part of the jargon like HIGH- VOLTAGE!
when it's the amperage that kills, you much more so than the "voltage". A taser for example might be 50,000 volts but less than a milliamp.
Bill , My two bedrooms are on the same breaker no problems up to now . I came home from a weekend away and didnt have power in those rooms . I narrowed it down to a light switch , replaced it . Now I only have 110 on all the plug ins and no lights . you ever heard of this ?
Thanks for that short and clear explanation, it was well explained. I am a beginner
Great video. Will be ordering the exact tools you used and doing this myself. Half my outlets don’t work in my apt, time to fix them. Cheers
Great demonstration and explanation! Thank you so much. Keep em coming
Great video just one troubleshooting tip to add, I hope it helps. When you do a voltage test with your meter you want to also check voltage between ground and neutral, if it's anything but 0 volts you have an issue as well
Can you explain what might have caused that, I have outlet issue, 130v bn natural and ground, hot and ground?
Well I have a daunting task of learning what I can do n when to call; a professional! ?Best way is watching these videos.
Thanks for ur teaching video! Very helpful
pretty good vid. easy to follow and hits all the basics. unintended humor is good also.
Diagnosis nicely explained. Keep up the good work
A plug tester. Praise the Lord and thank you I'm a new subscriber I can buy a plug tester instead of an electrician oh, at least for now you gave me hope.
Bill. I love the new channel! Its gonna help me a lot! In can't wait to watch more of your videos! Thank you! Keep up the good work!
+james norton Awesome, thanks for the support! Any special requests?
Reading schematics would be very helpful!
I changed my receptacle but still have no power coming out of the wires. Also cpuld not find the video showing how to troubleshoot the issue.
Jazz did you replace with a gfci outlet or regular 110 outlet?
I’m so sorry Andy. Seems like a great guy and very informative and thoughtful person.
The point is moot to him now but to all those who look to this video for instruction NEED TO KNOW 🫵
great video! keep them coming. am looking forward to watch more of your videos since I am an electrician apprentice.
very str8 forward and right to the point. loved the video; thank you Bill.
Your video is excellent thank you. My question is if I am remodeling my bathroom and I am putting in a new niche but there is a wire right in the middle of it. How do I add more wire to go around the niche? Thank you
Would like a link to the 2nd part of the outlet troubleshooting - repairing wall wires. Thank you.
Hi Bill, i have one circuit breaker that all the outlets have power but not enough to turn on a radio.
There is also one wall light that does have light but very dim light.
Suggestions where to statt first?
Thank you
Thank You for All of The Information You Shared. You Are Awesome
This man he suppose to be a teacher ,some of them they are just explaining themselves how they know it but not for Teaching others but this man he explained to someone to understand it..👌
Where’s the video to test breaker and wiring
Good job, a word of warning to amateurs though, whenever dealing with high volts it's always safer to use one hand when you are probing your outlets, so if something happens then electricity won't flow through your chest stopping your heart
Thanks I never would have thought of that. Your comment could have saved my life right there.
Thanks.
All of your videos are excellent
dang bill very very well explained diagnostic's thank you so much for sharing and your service to the united states!!!!!!
What can cause this?
did you ever solve this issue? if so what did you do? i have same problem :-(
What if my voltmeter indicates 70V in a 120v outlet? Do I need a new outlet in that case?
take out the outlet and check voltage between the neutral and hot terminals. If you still get 70 Volts, your voltmeter could be bad. Check your voltmeter on a good outlet for 120V.
Excellent very basic lesson. Iwould hire you to check a few things in my house's electric if you lived near.
Really great video. Explained well and easy to understand. Thank you Sir.
Very good Bill. Good explanation.
Hi Bill,
You started to mention about the main breaker but you didn't finish explain it.
I just subscribed to your channel after this helpful video, saved me time and money, good looking out 👌
Great video...mine says hot grd rev but when I turn off the breaker it has a sound but to turn on you don't hear the click sound..what are your idea change the breaker ..any help will do. Be blessed
Breaker do make a sound when turned OFF, but not when turned ON. The sound is mechanical, not electrical.
awesome, informative, well done video. THANK YOU you're doing God's work!
Hi ,
I just changed a plug and replaced it with a new identical one.
Bill passed away 3yrs ago .
Very helpful. Easy to follow. Thank you.
I have several lights in a hallway that all went out at same time, outlets in same are out also. breakers do not look to be tripped, rest all of them, lights still out. Is that likely a breaker issue or bad breaker(s)? Not sure which beraker controls those lights, so do I just need to check them all?
Hello
I have a question. I have two wires coming out of an electrical box. One of them brings power and the other goes somewhere I don’t know
When I put my voltmeter test leads on the hot and neutral of the power wire it reads 119 as expected. When I put the test leads on the hot wire of he power wire and the box itself it reads 67 volts
What could be the problem? Does this mean that the difference between my hot wire and the box is not 119v? Does it mean the box is not at ground voltage? Is that because that other wire (amor cable) is leaking 52 volts to the box, so the difference between the box and my hot wire is 67? Am I thinking about this the right way?
Thanks
Thanks I learn some awesome thing... but one thing, how do u know if it's bad if u don't have the tools to test?
HI I have a big question
I have a problem.
