Please do make more harmony lessons. You have been a great resource for me since all music related classes had been canceled for the semester at my college and my professor/vocal coach moved away.
Here's a system I developed that I'm working on now. How To Become a Natural Harmonizer (bare bones description) 1) Practice making up and singing new melodies to various chord progressions while playing these progressions. 2) Learn to sing diatonic number patterns in a major key. (I have 65 patterns that I sing) 3) Learn to play a major scale up and down on the piano while singing a note a diatonic 3rd above each note. 4) Learn to play major scale patterns like, 1,2,3,1 2,3,4,2 etc. while singing a note a diatonic 3rd above each note. 5) Play the game “Drop The Finger”. Orient yourself to the key of C and then close your eyes and drop your finger on any random white key while singing a note a diatonic 3rd above . You will have a slight delay between playing and singing. 6) Noodle around on the white keys making up melodies while singing a note a diatonic 3rd above each note. Again, there will be a slight delay between playing and singing of some notes. 7) Do steps 3-6 with a diatonic 3rd below, a diatonic 6th above and a diatonic 6th below.
This is great for me. I am an instrumentalist , but started music singing in school and church choirs when I was 8. I think a few minutes of singing easy and step by step more difficult harmonies would really be useful to me. Thank you!
Thank you. I really wanted to know to do harmony as a male singer. I really am frustrated not knowing how to😭. I end up singing in melody just lower one.
Do you even realize how powerful this is!? Like it just helped me make sense of everything I've been thought and corrected about on singing parts! I translated it all to tonic solfas in my head. I like that you especially focused on just one thing at thing length and depth. I discovered that I built quick muscle memory also as a new doh is struck I adjust quickly to it's third. You made my day. Thank you.
You are an amazing vocal coach! I benefit from this video as well as many others that you have produced. Like others, I would like for you to create more videos where we can practice harmony. Keep up the excellent work! I appreciate you and the work you do. Peace.
I Accidently hit the thumbs down...no, no,no, this is one of or mayb ethe, best instruction to harmnony there is. Singing sem-pro for ever, not very good at harmony. But, I think you have helped me. Thanks.
hello sir , hope you're doing great, i wanted to ask you that the melody and harmony will be in different keys all the time but with same relation to notes? as you said they change according to the chords in a song, please elaborate on that as well, thank you sire.
Thank you very much for this divine work you're doing to help us, and me in particular, master our divine instruments. Words can't express my gratitude for how your exercises have helped me appreciate my instrument; bless your darling heart! Please, could you create another exercise for three-part harmony-Tonic, 3rd, and 5th; and four-part one? In addition, I can vocalize A5 to D6, which is the apogee of my voice. This range sounds like a whistle and is not connected to my G5 to G4. Could you please create an exercise that will help me master my voice in this range? Thanks a billion!
Do you show harmony exercises for all intervals? What about minor vocal harmony intervals, is that used at all? I want to know, how many different ways of harmonizing is used at all and do you teach them all on here?
I have a dumb question. When referring to 3rd, is that the 3rd not from the melody? I'm a visual learner so the visuals up to about 4.5 minutes in the video seem to make sense, but I feel like I need to know more to understand. Chords are dominate in most instrument players so how does a vocalist (when in a harmonizing role) know how to hit the right note despite practice? So sorry for my ignorance. I'm not ashamed to put it out there because if I am ignorant because I don't know how to read music or don't play any instruments, I'm sure there are more like me. Excellent video! #newsub
It appears to be a mistake? If someone sings do-re-mi, and I sing mi-fa-sol, the interval between do and re is a full tone, whereas the interval between mi and fa is a semitone. So, I wouldn't be singing an actual third when singing fa against re. Please explain?
Please do make more harmony lessons. You have been a great resource for me since all music related classes had been canceled for the semester at my college and my professor/vocal coach moved away.
Harmony with chord changes sounds like an exciting undertaking. I can't hardly wait for you to advance us. (smiles)
This is the hands down the best and most functional harmony training I’ve found on UA-cam
Thank you!
For me singing the lower part is more difficult. I need to work on that.
