    Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Film Courage What kind of b.s. is this? What word did you bleep out? Was it "nigger"? He just talked about that in one of your videos about the thought police in the book 1984. If he had taken God's name in vain you would have been okay with that right? Sanitize it down so none of us can think for ourselves and form our own opininion. Carefully edit it and script so you put words in his mouth . How bogus is this video?

Id say he would of ripped that AD apart. Iconic character actor! Im Irish and my father once explained to me that he was friends with many black workers in England during the 80s. One day while on lunch my father was walking into a pub and his black colleague pulled him by the arm and said with his tongue in cheek "Paddy I am better than you" then pointed to a dog on the street and said "hes better than both of us" then pointed to the sign on the pub door my father had not noticed that said "No Dogs, No Blacks and no Irish". They both laughed and were friends ever since. He taught me what he learned to respect all people of all races. Some have more power than others and they are terrified of having it taken from them. So they project their fear through racism.

  • @bushkarogfa

Amazing Story! I grew up with racism all around me and I left home and joined the Army, meeting all kinds of people along the way. I too come to realize that we can choose to open our mind or not. Either way we choose the path. I'd be honored to meet him one day. I've met Julia Roberts, Gary Williams and Gunny in person, they felt magickal to me. Others I met not so much. Meeting these three people are forever marked in my heart. He feels like he has that kind of energy too. Thanks for this! Especially since all the horrible stuff said about Hollywood. There has to be some truly good people there too.

I was raised to love everyone. For some reason I can't control the feeling of people making me feel like my skin color defines me yet I do the same thing and yet I say it depends on the individual but my anger for one always triggers hate for all this is something I will work on and it has caused me to miss out on what could have been great friendships bill you opened my eyes a bit more your so calm and well spoken I've stored a lot of what you have spoke of and ill try and underatand the person alone rather then ones race thanks bill

Barbara k Spanish is a European nationality. Hispaniola was conquered and colonized by the Spaniards. Mexicans are either mixed with African descent or more European descent. Some are a mixture of Mongolian with the other two genetic traces combined. Mexican or any Latin nation isn't quantified to a "race". Just wanted to chime in on that statement.

Open your heart and mind and close your eyes. Racism will be here until the end of time but with our eyes we can miss out on great relationships. Being black and from the deep south I had to learn that at an early age. Luckily I had a solid foundation surrounding me to plant seeds of love and not hate in me. Sad world we live in but continue to work on yourself.

African American people generally hate in retaliation. Hate is not organic with us as a whole. We just despise being treated in such a manner that it seems like we have no other alternative but to return what is given towards us.Otherwise, we would just choose to live in peace and harmony....It really isn't that hard for us to do.But the constant barrage of epitaphs and negativity spewed at us on a daily and continuous basis makes it much more difficult. But,if tomorrow, Caucasian people ceased to exemplify hate towards us.We would be just fine and move forward with love and peace in our hearts. (Hate) is such a waste of all of our precious time. Don't ya think?

Wow. Really heavy stuff. Irony, is lately I've had my first grade teacher on my mind and how her belief in me and life in general, really made a profound difference in my life. So often people just don't grasp the extent and long lasting impact, be it positive or negative, they can have on a person's life. Now that I have adult perspective, I get down now and then cause I never got to thank her and let her know the positive impact she had on my life.

The first time I saw Bill Duke and especially in car wash it was something about this man that went Way beyond his acting because I kept looking at him through the film this looks like a man and the younger man at the time it was like I knew that this man was of knowledge and some wisdom and then looking for more at the same time he look very serious in his rules it's just something about him that's very serious and does not play around and I can see why I said this he's got knowledge about him this brother I'm not surprised to know that he has risen so high and directing and other things because of what I saw in him and his younger life and I don't even know them and I don't even know why I'm explaining it this way what he does seem to have a lot of knowledge is very gifted and I've seen it and few other actors / directorsbut has a black actor I'm sure he's going through a lot I can only imagine especially making it without any other influence if you know what I mean

I had a professor in my undergrad that I swore was racist. I lost my mom in my third year, and this professor was the only one that called from my institution to see how I was doing and encouraged me to finish. I am now in my first year of grad school. So yes. Mr. Duke is right. More people want you to succeed than not.

It’s a touching story but it also shows how clear and certain and passionate Mr Dukes thoughts were and how the co-manifest with others to help him progress. Meaning the two people who helped him break past some ligit tight spots.
He was willing to walk away from school to money up n come back in stronger... he was flexible but hard core “on it”.
