- Welcome to 2024. Here is my Top 20 video of the quickest VW Beetles that I filmed in 2023. As always, remember, these are the just the cars that I have filmed. These ones may have also gone quicker, and there may be other cars that I did not film, so do not get angry !! just add the details to the comments.

283 mph in anything on 4 wheels is impressive, but in a VW Bug that’s a Religious experience!! 😎👍
That is actually KPH, as was filmed in Norway. But still 176mph is crazy fast for a Beetle 💪💪💪
I was thinking, that's got to be kph, not mph. Still, that's moving in any measures.

I so miss mine, back in 1980 i was 17 years old and i had a 72bug i made into a baja w/a 1 pcs fiberglass front end bobbed the rear and rebuilt a 1600 into a 2180 lightened the flyweel and was embarrassing alot of hotrods....she loved to do wheelstands & eat transaxles...best of times.
7.94 sec pass, mind blowing performance. Suddenly my single port 1600 meyers manx now requires some upgrades. 😂

Friend of mine had a 69 bug built the engine put a set of slicks on it out ran v8s all night long.

I think my brother should upgrade to EFI.
His has a 1914cc with 120cam dual twin 40 dell'orto and somehow only managed a 17sec pass 🤔

I think he just needs to make sure it's set up right. That combo should make it into the 14s without a problem. Check that the carbs are opening properly and together, that it's jetted correctly and that the timing is right.
@@neildavies2276 Very true. It's not a bad setup for a beetle, with a nice set of heads on there 😎
@VeeDubRacing yep, depending on the heads it could go much quicker! Remember the original version of Jonny Grigg's No Compromise Beetle? That was an all steel street car with a 1914 and went 12s on a sniff of gas if I remember right. Certainly VW Pro times as I raced against him several times!
Your bruvs 1914cc may just need a trip to the rolling road, my old 2007cc (also with 120cam and twin 40's) ran 13.7s and my current 1300cc with twin 44's is tickling the 14's with a 15.0, Like Neil said...make sure everything is set up properly
I would like to know the cc of engines just approximate cc will be great. Like the bike racers Harleys get big cubs but newer engines are limited to smaller displacement. Very fast cars.

1:45 either is turbo is way too big or he's short shifting the hell out of that thing. You can hear the boost come in and the power really start to pull right before he shifts, then it falls on its face again. That or his clutch was starting to slip really bad
No issues with turbo size, engine is 3200cc. Car had issues and broke on the next run. Has previously been down into the 8's. Still made the list with that run, so put him in 😎😎

Bugs are cool but they are the slowest cars in the racing world. Mazda, Honda, Toyota are all in the 5's and 6's in the 1/4 mile
That is a crazy statement. That is like saying Honda's are cool, but Top Fuel dragsters can run 3's !!! Bugs are competing against other Bugs 🤙

When I was in elementary school and Jr high school about two blocks from my home was a small four shop industrial complex, very small, with single car sized buildings, one was a lapidary and one was a shop that built VW bugs for racing. The shop/team was TayCo.
This was back in the 1970s and they had some fast bugs for that era. A couple of friends of my older sisters had bugs also. One was a typical California Bug style with a dual Carb 2180 cc that was pulling wheelies and the other was a custom show car Baja bug body but with street tires. Big fat rear tires and front runners in front. It also would pull wheelies and it had a very cool 5 tone brown and tans metal flake crazy '70s pinstriping airbrushed paint job. It won a bunch of trophies in car shows in SoCal where we lived in Los Angeles. My dads close friend was a Baja bug builder that raced in the Baja, Mexicali, Parker, Ensenada, Mint, off-road races when they first began those races. Dick Cepek, Parnelli Jones, James Garner, Steve McQueen, were just some of the legends racing. No big sponsors, no helicopters, no teams with rescue vehicles, if you broke down you better have some spare parts and tools and if lucky some poor dirt farmer would lend a hand to get you back on course. We were kids and we'd just camp out in our family campers and tents, ride dirtbikes and wait for the end of the races. This was around 1969 '70 and Randy kept racing into the 1980s. Good times growing up in LA car culture golden age
