  • Taken directly from an excellent quality 35mm print, here is "Dreamers' Lullabye", as sung by The Four King Sisters.
The exact date of this short film is unknown, but it is probably from around 1950. The Alvino Rey Orchestra accompany the sisters, with Buddy Cole predominantly featured on celeste and piano.
The film features the four real-life sisters, Yvonne, Luise, Donna and Alyce. Sadly, Yvonne passed away in December, 2009. She was the last remaining original King Sister.
I hope you enjoy seeing this rare clip, in this excellent print.

Sadly, Yvonne died Sunday December 13, 2009 at age 89 in a hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She was married at the time of this video to Buddy Cole and they had a daughter Tracy Cole who became an actress (My Three Sons). Sister Luise was at this time married to Alvino Rey.

The King Sisters first sang this song on film in the 1946 movie "Cuban Pete."

This song, with new lyrics back then became "Autumn Time In Pleasant Grove", and recorded by the King Sisters for Capitol.

    Close your eyes,
    Come fly away with me
I'll take you to places that you've
    Never seen, never been before...
    I know why,
All the things you've been through
And all the things that hurt you
    Are eating you alive...
    Right here,
    With you
    Is where I wanna be
    Is where I oughtta be
    Wipe your tears away
    Coz right now...
    Time is on our side
    Time is on our side
    Come live another day...
Close your eyes and I'll sing you a lullabye
Nothing to fear coz I'm right here by your side...
    Close your eyes,
    Come fly away with me
I'll take you to places that you've never seen
    Never been before..

You are correct about Bill Driggs being their brother. Anoectangium is also right about this song, as well as the King Sisters' work at Capitol being their pinnacle. Of their four albums, "Baby They're Singing Our Song" is my favorite, and one of my favorite records of all time. This film of "Dreamers' Lullaby" is certainly a gem. Thank you for posting it!

@TheSwingShift In wholehearted agreement, Randall. This is a true pearl of jazz harmony--beautifully arranged, recorded, and filmed! Yours, Bryan

Buddy and Yvonne's daughter was Tina Cole. On one of Buddy Cole's last albums "Modern Pipe Organ", there is a song ("Tina") written by Buddy dedicated to her.
