How any ONE MAN (even with his many assistants over the years) has been THAT PROLIFIC over his still on-going career is mind boggling! SALUTE Gean Winfield! That photo album cannot do his work justice.... SALUTE!
As of April 16, 2022: Winfield, now at age 94, still runs and operates a shop located on a large plot of land in Mojave, California, and tours the world chopping cars and laying down his signature fadeaway paint jobs.
So glad this showed up in my feed. Absolute legend of legends, that scrap book alone could have its own UA-cam channel. It’s funny how everyone talks about Barris but Gene was light years ahead of him.
My son adores his work. Rescued a model of a corvair with a Gene Winfield customization kit, built it.kept it.named his daughter corvair, probably his biggest fan.he paints cars and loves to "flake candy pearl" everything because of that guy.
That Strip Star car is gotta be the most unusual- looking muscle car I have ever seen and I can't believe it's designed by him. Also i can't believe it's still in working order. He should have a copy in a museum. People would be like " How the hell can it operate? " 🤣 That is beautiful. Reminds me of the other guy that did the 60s Batmobile. I bet the 60s were weird when people built these cars and I love weird.
The Strip Star was being offered in a raffle at an amusement park here in Detroit in 1967. I mentioned this detail to Gene at the Detroit Autorama a few years ago when he had it on display there after it had been restored. He had me write down the details for him.
This man is AMAZING !!! His enthusiasm and extreme skill keeps him going... I lived in the Rosamond area back between 2008-2010, and remember seeing his shop off of the Sierra Highway, on my way to work, when I was working at Edwards AFB... His cars are just Incredible !!! Really beautiful !!! I used to have a '64 Dodge Polara just like the one he has here... I Loved that car, and it broke my heart when it was auctioned-off in a storage - clearance... What a legend he is !!! I want to be in his physical condition and have his sharpness when I get to my 90's... What an inspiration he is !!!
Gene is a legend, Dennis inspired me to restore a 67 Camaro, his show was always there to motivate me with the thing I needed most, Inspiration. Thanks Dennis 🇨🇦👍
Man, what a really great video this was. Gene is a true artist. He's been involved in so many great tv/movie projects. His work is amazing. The Police Spinner from Blade Runner is iconic now. Wondering what he built in the movie Trancers ? I know the protagonist drove a red 1959 Chevrolet Corvette C1 in that film. Did he build the Street Hawk bike too? He mentioned it in the vid. Found info online that states the bike used in the Pilot episode of Street Hawk was built by the same team that built the cars in Blade Runner and The Last Starfighter, so it sounds like the original bike was maybe done by Gene?
Old friend of mine, Buddy Bates, who passed away in 1985 had a saying that "Life Begins At 130" which he started because he finally broke through the 1/4 mile130 mph barrier with his flathead powered dragster in the early 50's. He also knew and raced with Gene Winfield several times.
When I was about 14-15 years, many many many years ago, my sister and her husband with 3 kids lived in Modesto CA. Husband was going to school to become a school teacher and the college was across the road from Gene Winfield's shop, at least one of them. He told me he could take me to the shop to see some of his cars. The day we went, Gene wasn't there so I didn't get to meet him. But 57 years later, I still remember the experience.
I can still remember being God smacked when I saw the "Supercar" on Bewitched as a kid watching reruns in the seventies. It's one of those touchtone moments where you can trace back your love of all things cars. Speed Racers Mach 5, the Batmobile, the Munster's hot rods, the Supercar, even the Monkees Mobile. They don't make em like that anymore. I wish someone would make a 1/18 diecast model of this car, I'd buy it.
What a special episode I’ve been watching you guys make great content most of my life it’s always a joy watching you guys share history ! I cherish my childhood sundays
Lou you keep knocking them out of the park.. what s great piece of history documented for us, that's a lot of cars related by a genius awesome.. thanks
Wow!!!!!! That is a great video! An in depth interview with the customizing Lengend !!!! What a blast to see the man and his cars!!! Thank you for this episode!!!
The Reactor was featured as the "Jupiter 8" in the Star Trek show "Memory Alpha" as well as the Catwoman's "Kitty Car" in the Batman show "The Jokes On Catwoman."
Barris got all the attention as more of a self promoter than an actual customizer. But I wasn't aware of just how prolific Gene's career was. WOW. I learned a shitload more about him in this directors cut than the original episode.
Barris got more attention then everyone else because of one reason above all others, And its not because he was a self promoter, or because he knew someone, nor was it from taking on jobs no one else will, its all come down to, Location, Location, Location, the locationi of his shop was key, i know because i passed it and the place that built all the vehicles for Dune every day from 7th grade to 11th grade, plus any other time i decide to move around the city of L.A., Barris' shop was one gas station away from the corner of Lankershim Blvd and Riverside Dr in North Hollywood, CA, my probation officers office and one of L.A. counties probation dept was located right on the corner, diagonally across from the where Barris' shop is at, there an AmPm gas station on the corner
Wow! Was surprised that he did "The Wraith" Dodge M4S Turbo Interceptor car! I still have pictures of that car on my phone. I wished Dodge would have made that a production car! Love my performance 4cyl cars!
From the UNCLE car to the Galileo and Jupiter 12 ( IIRC from Star Trek Bread and Circuses) to the Spinner and the Star Car thank you Gene for your part in making my nerdy childhood and young adulthood just that little bit more awesome.
Gene is great he has put out so many great cars over the years I got to meet him in Chicago in 2013 at a local car show I had my Mustang in it and he signed the hood for me it was great to meet him.
This should be a lesson to everyone. Gene keeps busy. At 95 he always has projects that keep him interested and active. George burns did the same thing with his comedy. he was famously booked into the Palladium in London on his 100th birthday and I think he booked that appearance when he was maybe 90 years old.
12:06 No one has in history has created a more beautiful car than this Corvette. 24:38 A central windshield wiper would be a good idea too. 34:08 I know the windshield prevents us from having a conversation mom but the reason the driver's side window is open is because i have to use hand signals.😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂🤣😅😆

Absolute legend
I knew the name, but never had any idea he created so many famous cars.
Now we know why Chip Foose got into the craft.
Very cool show. 👍
He is a legend and he's recently been on motor trend on full custom garage.
This is probably what keeps him going and going. Good for him!
That is just awesome. God bless him. This makes me so happy
Gene is such an amazing car craftsman.
I used to live near there. I stopped by his shop one day looking for someone that used to work for him. He gave me the grand tour.
Not only do you show us American history but you bring the people in this case Mr Winfield that made American automotive History! Thank you
I got to meet Gene Winfield last year at a car show at Atomic Motors in Las Vegas. Really nice guy and sharp as a tack at 94.
The Jade Idol was my all time favorite Winfield vehicle.
Thank you for having Mr. Gene Winfield, he's a treasure for us car guys.
And girls
So glad this showed up in my feed. Absolute legend of legends, that scrap book alone could have its own UA-cam channel. It’s funny how everyone talks about Barris but Gene was light years ahead of him.
This man is more nimble at 94 than most people in their 60's! Truly blessed 🙏.
My son adores his work.
Rescued a model of a corvair with a Gene Winfield customization kit, built it.kept it.named his daughter corvair, probably his biggest fan.he paints cars and loves to "flake candy pearl" everything because of that guy.
Cool cars and wonderful workmanship. Wraith cool! And all the great
customizing.
Gene Winfield what a legend and one of the nicest guys Its been my pleasure to meet in the Custom Car scene.

That was George Barris, huh... I thought it WAS built by Gene for a sec, had to think about that one
Gene is in the best shape for a man his age! What a cool guy. Legend.
Maybe that 94 is a typo. He looks like someone in his 50’s. Wish I looked like that.🙁
This was shot back in 2006. Gene will soon turn 95!
@@MyClassicCarTV wow
@@MyClassicCarTV I remember meeting Zora Duntov just before he passed away.
The Strip Star was being offered in a raffle at an amusement park here in Detroit in 1967. I mentioned this detail to Gene at the Detroit Autorama a few years ago when he had it on display there after it had been restored. He had me write down the details for him.
This was the best video I have seen in a long time! What a guy what an artist!!
Winfield's picture book is like drinking from a Fire Hose .... too much to take in !!! WOW!!
Such a great tour of custom cars.
Learned a lot about gene from this video. Only one word for this living legend...WOW!! Thank you dennis!
that strip star is a better concept then hotwheels could ever design.. what a great art.

Dennis: as usual, great episode. Have had the pleasure of interviewing Gene on numerous occasions. Incredible talent and all around cool guy, grin.
Fantastic stuff, what a visionary and artist. I hope I’m half as energetic as Gene when I reach 50, never mind over 90.
What a humble gifted man. Greg from Australia
Gene is a legend, Dennis inspired me to restore a 67 Camaro, his show was always there to motivate me with the thing I needed most, Inspiration. Thanks Dennis 🇨🇦👍
The world needs more of this and less bs games

Gene was the master of making transmissions mate to different engines. Why? He never gave up, or too proud to ask for help.

Great video, with the ending being a total hilarious win!!!!
Spriest 94 year old I ever laid eyes on. Good memory, too. All them gas fumes over the years. 😁
What a treat bro!!
It can be said that he is at the height of G.Barris Or even more...Thrilling! Greetings and admiration from Argentina.
George Barris gets alot of credit for Gene's work because people don't know any better
BEST EPISODE TO DATE!!!! GREAT JOB DENNIS AND CREW 👍

That was great. I had no idea. He was as is amazing. Thank you for sharing

Hey, I just watched the old, 60s Star Trek episode with The Reactor in it. Love Winfield's work. Absolute legend.
Gene ,YOUR SIMPLY A GENIUS!
Your name should be INSPIRATION!
God Bless You Gene!
He is a guy I would love to go learn from. Such an awesome dude from what I have seen and heard.
That was a really great episode.
Gene Winfield- thank you for sharing your work. I'm really glad I watched this. Very cool.
What a humble gentleman 💯
34:34 “today’s gas prices” oh boy this was in 2006. I would kill for 2006 gas prices in 2022.
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Reactor was featured as the "Jupiter 8" in the Star Trek show "Memory Alpha" as well as the Catwoman's "Kitty Car" in the Batman show "The Jokes On Catwoman."
Great video. Loved the ending.
This man loves power operated everything! doors roofs hoods gas caps you name it, it power opens!
Strip Star was in the 1990 film Solar Crisis, a film backed by Ted Turner co. Good stuff!!!
Barris got all the attention as more of a self promoter than an actual customizer.
But I wasn't aware of just how prolific Gene's career was. WOW.
I learned a shitload more about him in this directors cut than the original episode.
That’s the great thing about UA-cam vs TV, there are no time constraints. Yay!!

Good old Gene !
Couple of years ago, returning from Death Valley, drove down Seirra Hwy and happened to pass his shop. Turned around and took several pictures.
So very cool. To think he's still around and doing this since before I was born. Wild man, just wild.
Wow he is the best preserved 94 yo I have ever seen (not just the dyed hair)
Wow! Was surprised that he did "The Wraith" Dodge M4S Turbo Interceptor car! I still have pictures of that car on my phone. I wished Dodge would have made that a production car! Love my performance 4cyl cars!

Great stuff. Thanks for posting
Amazing how much some people accomplish in their lifetime.
The strip star was Gene's daily driver the week of monster garage. 😂
Gene is an incredible man.
Very impressive.
Dude wtf this man is responsible for my childhood all he had to do was make the Ghostbusters Scooby-Doo and batmobile 😂
Great show! Loved seeing the cars this great imagination came up with. Very fun to see.
Didn't know he built the Last Starfighter car. Awesome !
I remember that any car commercial . Manufacturers Hanover Trust who was later merged with Chase. I worked for both banks.
Thanks for sharing this!
Just WOW!!! ICON
Crazy magic...
Gene is great he has put out so many great cars over the years I got to meet him in Chicago in 2013 at a local car show I had my Mustang in it and he signed the hood for me it was great to meet him.

THE MAN / THE MYTH / THE LEGEND!!!
Aw, how did the Reactor never end up as a model kit?
Amazing talent! Nice Vid. Thank you very much!
One of those little books was where I first saw The Jade Idol. I've still got it somewhere.
Talk about a legend.
Gene looks identical to Jason Newsted.
/w\METAL/w\
wish he stated where all these cars are now
Happy Birthday, keep on building and driving. You are amazing
Thanks! Enjoyed every minute!
Gene will be 95 in June!
And still an incredibly cool cat!
Holy cow very cool!!
