Gonna be 80 yrs. old on his next birthday and he's banging gears in a supercharged Studebaker. That's frigging awesome!
The guy can definitely still drive
Now this is fun to watch. Factory stock class is affordable and this is the kind of racing fans want to see more of.
I got to race my 70 Chevelle in the FAST class at Lebanon valley a few years ago. It was a blast and a privilege. I was asked to run the car that day by the club. Damn those cars were quick. It was a hot day I only did a couple of passes. But I’ll never forget the experience. Thank you
I was humbled quickly my first time and now got the bug bad. Worse addictions to have that’s how I see it.
These cars are so friggin cool! Love this racing class. Such a great idea.
Those are some FINE looking Chevys.
Too bad there isn't more coverage of this class
Is that 9 second 71 Mustang still the fastest car in F.A.S.T. ???
@@daleostrom3613 We know it is, everybody else seems to have forgotten.
Love watching you guys run at the valley
That's totally awesome I like what you guys got going on. Keep it up
Wow! I love the guy with the STUDABAKER! An his hauler! Both are sick! I hope hes able to do his thing at a 100!
Now this IS drag racing!!!
Great video. Thanks.
Old school forever🤟 tanks for video👍 yeh ✊😉
awesome thank u guys please keep it up
This is awesome. Mopar 4 life.
R.I.P. COPO Pete. He was something else in that white COPO Camaro. Bet he and Tom Shaw are up there bench racing.
MRI great track 2 miles from my house. I heard the bikes running this morning.
Cool I love it 👍🏼
Came for the racing , left because of the constant chit chat .
Gotta love that Studebaker guy.
I LOVE it 🥰
I became very interest in this type of racing several years ago, specifically because it requires the use of STOCK size wheels and tires. No 30" GHETTO PIMPMOBILE REEHUUMS allowed.
Hard on!
kudos to the old man with the Lark
Thank you, and that's Don Harbit, and he is no "old man".
My Uncle showed me a Lincoln Continental that ran a class of racing like this or this class of racing that car was very impressive
Fun as hell
Could you imagine the et of the mopars would run if the dohc hemi was released and twin Paxtons on top of that and if Chrysler release a six speed back then…… could be and idea for one of these guys
This is one of the most elegant rule systems I've heard of. But wouldn't the bigger oem tires of 1970 and up dominate?
Torino Cobra 429 scj, top of my list
Actually, the fastest car that I have heard of in F.A.S.T. is a 1971 429 SCJ Mustang. A few years back it was the first car in the 9s. It ran 9.8 something.
@@daleostrom3613 they are lighter car for sure, i love the FORD muscle period but i love Torino style
@@toddlecher4097: I have a 1970 429 SCJ Torino Cobra waiting on a restoration. One of my favorites also.
Factory sock cool, but I think you should be able to use any factory grind cam, unported heads and any factory intake/exhaust manifold as well as the mandrel exhaust. I have two cars that run ok with the cam it came with but my 94 Z28 M6 would eat them up. So I did cam, head swap to more compression but pump gas headers re jet the carb and timing curve for cheap. My exhaust is straight off the headers no bends to thrush (like old flowmadters) mufflers. My 71 formula went from 14.6@96 to 13.5@104 and not sure on the 73 TA but it’s way stronger and stock it may have been faster than the formula by .2-.3 what I am getting at is the cam/exhaust did more than the heads. I am sure the formula would go 13.6 on the stock heads. But confined to what I had I am confident I could get to 13.9 in the formula and a maybe a little better in the TA but with the same cam being in both my 400 and 455 the 455 is a bit of a pig. Have to shift at 4K whereas the 400 will still happily get to 4800. Anyway time for another beer 🍺 🤣 have fun, love it!!!
wo that guy al,most 80, talking continuously with almost no pauses, didnt sound winded or anything. got a feelin hes gonna be doing it quite some time
michigan is car crazy
Factory cars are the best.
Le 427 et un super moteur et il a un sons légendaire avec les pots latéraux faut en mettre partout de c est pot latéraux j en avait mis sur ma chevelle 72
I'd like to see a class very similar to this. do anything to the engine you want, but no electronic aids, like launch control, or ecu. have to run stock suspension, except you can use traction bars. and the tires can be as wide as you want, but they have to be a treaded street tire, and they have to have at least 20 lbs. in them. that way guys with mickey Thompson's don't have a huge advantage. the car itself has to appear factory. roll cage ok, but must have full interior.
My guy actually said worn down tires will hook harder, or just as hard as a slick. DUNCE MODE ENGAGED.
That Studebaker is fucking badass...
Would love to drive there, compete then drive home like in two lane black top, my weapon of choice would be a mopar preferably like a road runner or a boss 429 in something. Well you have to dream👍🏼🇬🇧
I wanna do what Ted harbit does at his age
Man, I sure wish they had a decent track and held this type of event annually in my county. But they don't........unfortunately. I would rather watch this type of drag racing vs any other.
De Lorean did the Trans Am.
You forgot to mention the fastest car in F.A.S.T. 1971 429 SCJ Mustang. Was on the cover of Hemmings motor news. Ran 9.86 at 138 mph. Owned and driven by Lane Carey.
Was it on the cover of HMN or the cover of HMM? It will make my search easier through my back issues of both. Thank you. (I'm stuck in a wheelchair for a while)
@@johnslaughter7110;
It was January 2011
Hemmings Muscle Machines
Terry just might hit 8 seconds next year
So its not really stock? Let me know when you start running them truly stock.
Factory Stock is run very close to how cars were delivered stock.
F.A.S.T. (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) is a faster class that is factory appearing with stock-type tires, but allows for modifications.
I doubt they would take the time to let you know anything let alone change the class for you. There isn’t a class that actually runs them stock. There is a factory stock class, but the cars are still tuned and not actually as they left the factory. It’s fantastic to watch and I love both. Best part is seeing how the muscle cars don’t match the stories that go with them. As a kid I always heard that muscle cars were always a set of tires away from a 10 second pass. Most actually run in the high 13’s to low 14’s in actual stock form (stock timing, carb jetting, tires, exhaust, and stuff). They are beautiful as it gets though.
Because 14s are a blast. If you actually think kids didnt start playing with secondary springs, blocked intakes or welded rearends, you weren't paying ny attention.
Michael King all those car will run 13s easy if not 12s with aggression rear end gear and modern tire technology on stock size tires.
stock tire from those days...jeez they get annihilated hahaha
Why is NPD sponsoring this and they don't carry mopar parts.
In Hemmings Muscle Magazine a few Years ago, they had a 1971 Mustang running in the F.A.S.T class that was running in the 9.70 range or thereabouts. Saw it once, never saw it again. Does anybody know what happened to the car?
Car went 9.84 once, not 9.70. Was crazy illegal and never came back to another race.
yes can you explain why it was crazy illegal, was it because it beat the he I of Dave dudeks.
''yes can you explain why it was crazy illegal, was it because it beat the he I of Dave dudeks.'' ahhhh =( its run like that, i will skip then
@@mikeburks9641
His entire build was illegal.
They found a list of things that were hidden including 100 shot.
I remember the article well
It was ridiculous.
The guy never showed back up because we told not to come back.
That was a PRINTED ARTICLE OUT OF A CAR MAGAZINE
THERE ALSO WAS A STATEMENT APPARENTLY FROM THE ORG.
IT WAS EMBARRASSING AT THE TIME BECAUSE they missed a couple of easy to see illegal build pieces but hell.
Everyone can miss stuff once in awhile.
Its a cool race series
stock cars ok, but stock tyres? About the upgraded enegines; upgrades should be limited to what was awaiable back then, "time-correct upgrades"
They are using reproduction bias-ply tires that are period-correct.
National Parts Depot
Do pre-1967 have to run skinny tires ?
They can run a maximum 6" wide wheel and OE-style reproduction bias-ply tires only. Any car is allowed to upgrade to a maximum size tire of G-70 of the OE wheel diameter.
National Parts Depot Looks like you should reconsider this a bit; strighten up the rules for enegine-upgrades by allowing only "time-correct" parts (awayable back then) but on the other hand allow all cars to compete on equal tires. That would make sense..
We sponsor the series but do not write the rules. The rules were created by the racers that run the series, and they are probably open to suggestions from participants.
I'm running American Racing torque thrusts on pirellis - does this disqualify me?
F.A.S.T. normally requires original style tires (bias ply).
I own a 1968 B029 Super Stock Barracuda. Those that car qualify for your events? I want to get it back on the back on the track and have some fun with it. I am tired of it just sitting in my garage. It has not been raced since the early nineteen eighties. It's either that or buying a Ford Cobra Jet. I just want to have fun. I don't want to be out there trying to break any national records. These cars need to be driven and not sitting in museums and garages collecting dust.
You sir qualify as badass with that car, do not, I repeat DO NOT GET A F'JORD. C'MON MAN.
Thought I was gonna see some racing?
There is racing, discussion of the series, how it works, etc.
Exactly! BLA Bla Bla Bla. Show some freaken races!
They have a stock class and a cheaters class.
It's not cheating if it's allowed in the rules, now is it ?
12:13 Roadkill theme!
Un road runners ca vos combien please sir thancs 🙏😑🤲🇫🇷👉👤
so basically as long as the car has original equipement and u can get away with cheating IE: modifying the heads but they look stock.. then its stock? NO!!... watch on youtube "Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags 2014" that's STOCK!!!!!!
There are two different classes: Factory Appearing Stock Tire (F.A.S.T.) and Factory Stock.
F.A.S.T. allows internal modifications per the rules, so it's not "cheating" to modify the heads internally. The car must appear stock and run a stock tire.
However, the "factory appearing" on the engine translates here on the rules: Engine block must appear to be a correct* original block and must be of the same engine family and exterior size (Dealer installed engines and dealer performed modifications are not allowed). Cylinder Heads and Intake Manifold MUST be correct* OEM casting, have correct* original casting numbers and be of correct* original material.
Rules can be found here: www.fastraces.org/members/fastraces/fastraces.nsf/822dcaaaa26c6da985256dd80023623d/641ea0eecc86e4048525728f00424bf5!OpenDocument
Factory Stock follows very similar rules to Pure Stock. Factory Stock DOES NOT ALLOW engine modifications; rules are here for Factory Stock: www.fastraces.org/members/fastraces/fastraces.nsf/822dcaaaa26c6da985256dd80023623d/eb016e341bee33a58525728f00424bf6!OpenDocument
Pure Stock rules are here: www.psmcdr.com/2.html
@wolvieguy You tell me genius, The one guy said he was making 800 hp. The rules are pretty liberal for this class where a good engine builder and tuner can pick up way more hp than a completely stock car. But why am I trying to explain it to you, the most radical thing you have ever done to a car was adding windshield washer fluid to it.
Not a single race shown
It's an overview of the racing event, with plenty of clips of actual racing.
Your pitch was ok but I thaught I was going to see some racing 🙄
No music needed.
Mopars will always instill fear into the competition ,then and now
tube dude the dodge demo agrees with you.
Fear maybe. But Chevies won most!
This was disappointing; I thought I was going to see cars racing.
To bad this video is more commentary instead of actual drag racing. Change the title you producers and quit deceiving the viewers.
Chevy power dominated most classes at the strip and the street. Just accept it.
due diligence..........cringe
FAST is a bullshit class, cuz you can run a hidden NOS system
+tunnelportterror Tech inspection is very strict for this class, and we haven't heard of anyone running / being caught with a hidden nitrous system.
even if you did get past the tech inspection, you still have to hook it up on stock tires. I don't like the turbo, or nitrous cars though. that's all we see anymore in drag racing. either they've got turbo's that sound like a toilet flushing. or they cram enough nitrous in to choke a whale. almost nobody ever builds a real engine anymore
yak yak yak! no racing👎🤮
