It is a privilege to see learn from your videos. I have adopted this setup and am overjoyed with the ease of use. Thanks, Stewart.
Very well thought- out and configurable, nice foundation for future additions!
Wow, that's brilliant. I love how you're creating a foreground, background with soft diffused light. 🔥🔥
I love it :)
Nice setup Stewart; sold, I'm buying this. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I’ve just got hold of the new updated platypod as well :)
Good to see you using this rig, I bought one at the photography video show and have only just started using it. You mentioned the screws get stuck, I had this problem, I can offer a tip which seems to work for me at least: I sprayed a small amount of GT 85 on to a rag and carefully wiped the threads, don’t over do it though, literally just coat the threads lightly with the rag or even use a small art brush, try to keep it off of the screw grip, only put it on the threads or it’ll get on everything you touch, wash hand after to be safe! Anyway, it works, finger tightening, and they thread in and out by hand, no pliers! I do struggle with the super clamp rotating grip tips though, guess i’ll master them. Good to see you using the rig, motivates me to use it more! I do wish i’d bought their tripod head like you did though. Another informative video, brilliant, thanks.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a go.
This is an amazing idea for a macro setup. The Platypod Elbow would be another interesting addition
I’ll be taking a look at the elbows at the photography show 😀
Thank you great work
That looks brilliant mate 👌
Thank you 😊
Loves it mate
Thanks
Great setup !
It is a good setup!
I am going to buy this set up. This will go with my Loawa 90mmm f2.8 Macro L-Mount and my Godox MF12-K2 - Macro Flash Kit plus one extra Godox MF12. Thanks to you!!😊
Nice 👍🏻
Brilliant!
Thank you my friend.
Very nice setup! My current setup consists of a box of cereal with a background taped to it, a flower stem in the hole of an empty salt shaker. Very ghetto but gets the job done when the insect cooperates. :)
I used to use an old vodka bottle, so long as it does the job lol
Now thats a great platform for macro work
It very good 😊
Great video!
Thanks!
nice find in those clamps bud 👍
It was a surprise to me when looking around on Amazon.
Try using threadlock on the gooseneck end, this shou!d stop the connectors unscrewing when removing them from the clamp
Unfortunately, I need to take them of for different configurations. What’s needed is a better grip.
Hi, thanks for your inspiring work. Where could I find zhose gosseneck arms?
get some graphite for the screws to help them ease in and out:)
Very nice!
Thanks
Lovely
Thank you.
What about putting an o ring on the goose necks ?
I only found you yesterday, you present very well. Today I got out my Canon 100mm Prime following up on you using one. I find it really difficult to get proper focus when hand held snapping a flower. I guess I need to try a tripod, I've never used one. Enthusiastic amateur thanking you.
Thank you 😊
its easy to make a platypod just order the right size taps for the 1/4 3/8 camera size threads
Hi Stewart,
Loved the video, can you tell me where to buy the short goosenecks you use
Thanks
Mike
You can get them from the Platypod website, link in the description.
brilliant :)
Thanks mate
Wow, very cool setup, now to find my credit card 💳
Hi would the Platypod Ultra with the R5 & Rf 100 macro work or is it to small cant seem to find the one you have please
Hi, great vid Stewart...............do you have a link for the goose neck thingys ?
They are from platypod.
The clamps don’t seem to be available anymore on Amazon. Any one have another source?
Hi I like this set up do you have to use goose neck arms from Platypod or can you use third party arms please
You can use third party arms if you want to.
Great ideas I been using a lazy Susan 😮
I’ve not used mine for quite some time.
Again a great video! Got a question...it looks like you laminated the background-card. Can you confirm this? This does not get negative effects on the image? Maybe this encreases lifetime of the card?
Yes I did. I used a matt laminate so the background card can survive being in wet grass and the card won't reflect the light from the flash.
@@StewartWoodArt Great idea - i do have all the stuff to laminate here in the house. i might go for it too. I grabbed your atumn/winter collection 2 days ago and i would like to protect them. No negative effects to the images ? Big thx in advance for your reply :)
Hi Stewart I have found the plate and the super clamps but I haven't found the goose neck arms, could you advise me where I can find them ?
You can get them from the platypod website.
I do like that set-up, but the price for that Platypod is a bit salty. Good tip on the clamps.
Thank you.
Have you looked at the Platypod Ultra?
Just looked at one, I may get it. It’s smaller and lighter 😀
Like others here, I think this is a brilliant setup. And it won’t break the bank to achieve.\🥇
I love it!
Since I've been using Focus Shift for Mushrooms, my Platypod has been shelved. This could give it a new purpose.
Give it a go, it's not suited for all situations but when you find yourself in that situation it's great.
So you gently capture the insect, put it into your scene, take your photos and put it back? Am I understanding that correctly? They stick around long enough for you to take your photos?
some do, some don't lol
I see. I hadn't really thought of that. Lol. My very limited insect macro career has been spent looking for bugs in opportune settings.
are they the platypod flexible arms ?
Yes.
How heavy are they as I ordered one similar but it's far too heavy, heavy gauge metal
.... Tell me how that would be useful when capturing wild shrooms low on the ground without moving it or even anything . on Wild flowers without disturbing or damaging it...
I can't see how your setup would even work in the wild . when most targets don't stay idle long enough .
I simply can't see being useful .. in natural settings . I only see that for being used for staged static captures .
What i capture isn't static
It does work, you can use the platypod as a tripod for low angle shots for mushrooms. If you don’t want to disturb the subject you can place the platypod near the subject and use the clamps to hold the stem (preventing movement from the wind) and add a texture in the background.
Most of my subjects are not static and alive, you just need to practice more.
@@StewartWoodArt How does using clamps not damage or disturb the natural lay of the target tiny wild flowers or even spook when capturing insects butterflies without touching them at all .
...
I don’t think you watched the video, I already said that the clamps have rubber pads that prevent damage to the stem.
@@StewartWoodArt I did watch the video . You should do a follow up video of you using out in fields , etc .. as this never showed enough to fully convince me
Will do my friend.
is it on aliexpress?
You may find some parts but not all of it.
Platypods have been cloned. They are very simple products.
I’ll stick to the original.
