Ex cabinetmaker here... In my (admittedly limited) experience with sharpening things, sorting out pencils is less about spending cash on premium-quality implements and more about spending time fettling the blade in the sharpener itself.
Coloured pencils are usually made from quite soft, 'hairy' wood, and it needs an exceedingly sharp blade to cut it cleanly. The coloured waxy core will also crumble unless the blade is perfectly sharp.
Most sharpeners are woefully blunt and will mangle even top quality pencils. Before spending a lot of cash on artist-grade writing sticks, it may be worth having a really close look at the blade in the sharpener.
A couple of minutes honing with a fine oilstone and polishing on a leather strop should yield vastly improved results, giving the wood that tight, shiny, burnished finish that only many hours with a photo-editor could otherwise achieve. 🙂

@@StewartWoodArt I had an idea and I am 70% satisfied with the result. I placed pencils on a white canvas in a vertical position and I took a B/W picture from above, but I have problem with the perceptive I think. Some of the pencils look crooked.
