I didn't even finish the trailer for this movie. If the trailer can't even manage to convey any themes or tone, you already know you're looking at a mess. And in this case, it seems not even an entertaining B movie mess, but a $120 million vanity project for yet another Hollywood personality, who had too big an ego to bow out gracefully.
You sir did the correct thing by not finishing that trailer. Trust me you wouldn’t want to waste anymore time on this film especially 2 hours like I did🥲 honestly it’s just an egocentric mess
@FellasProductions I saw it in cinema and people walked out. It starts of a bit promising, a sort of surreal black comedy but then it completely loses it's way and becomes unwatchable. At first the audience in the cinema seemed quite engaged and laughing along, and eventually, everyone seemed to tune out. The worst part about the film, is that for the people who like it there isn't much you can say to critique it, as they just respond with 'you don't understand what Ari Aster was trying to accomplish, it's suppose to be surreal' etc, when we actually do understand what Ari Aster was trying to accomplish, and just think the result id unwatchable garbage. It's actually the only movie I ever regret watching to the end. Even if a film is bad I never regret watching to the end, but for this one, I genuinely just want my 3 hours back.
@@Hannah-y2z I feel like a lot of people use that defence of “you just don’t understand it” for bad films these days especially those made by A24 and Ari Aster. I’m not the biggest fan of his as I find his films a bit boring and pretentious but they are very well made. I thought Beau is Afraid looked decent from the trailer but I will probably give it a pass now😂. 3 hours is too precious time to be wasting.
The message and central theme of Megalopolis is essentially him saying that we need to lean into globalism so that the world can be a utopia, and rich elitist artists like him will be who takes us there, so long as their creativity isn't hindered... It could be taken that way OR that artists like him will save the dying film industry so long as they get proper funding and creative control. Either way, the guy is really pretentious, has done awful things, and is pretty sus. Not the guy whose messages should be spread to the masses. But the movie is a Megafloppolis anyway, so..
If that is his message then it’s pretty funny that he’s released an absolute stinker of a film that’s definitely not going to save the film industry. Also, I would not want to see his or the rich elites’ idea of a utopia that would be one truly horrible world (although with what they do and what they’ve away with they kind of already live in it).
... i could go: how about You just keep these Words to Yourself... but its more relevant to ask You... what is Your understanding of the last 5 minutes of the Film?
That AI image of 'Rome' (starting at 1:32) is absolutely freaky - and seems to fit the vibe of the movie perfectly.

I'm not even going to hate watch this film. It's giving Beau Is Afraid.
I’m yet to watch that film is it any good?

@@FellasProductionsI’m glad someone else feels this way. It seems like you’re not allowed to think his movies are mid but they just kinda are

@@FellasProductions It's probably why the production companies never wanted to make it - they didn't want such a bad movie to push THEIR message lol.

Looks good to me
