- So again, big thanks to Schulte for working with us and allowing us to to use their disc harrow! I am no "pro harrow" kinda of guy nor do I claim to have much experience in that regard, but I definitely liked the job it was doing today. 🙂

Loving the way this harrow mixes organic matter into the soil. It’s a nice touch for nutrient creation and breaking down straw.
That’s what I call high speed farming , it’s good to do some tilling to let the ground breathe, and mix the soil 🤠
Amazing video Mike !!! I always enjoy seeing large tractors with big implements doing the job.
Organic matter also helps with water retention as well. I think that's one of the reasons why the South Farm has poor yields, that soil has next to no organic mass.
When Mike says organic matter hes talking about crop residue...it lays on the tops and slows drying and soil warming in the spring....
@@dirtdevil70plus the borgault drills can't handle crop residue.
@@7rixee I’m actually surprised we don’t see more single disc opener drills on the prairies.. I would think they would pull easier but maybe that’s offset by higher maintenance costs?.
The south farm has poor yields because it hasn’t rained down there 🤣
@@dirtdevil70 Mike has said in the past that he has too many rocks to operate a disc drill effectively.
That truck sounds amazing with headphones on.
Can only imagine what Mike's neighbours think he is doing now. Good job Mike and crew.
That is pretty impressive. Any farmer would be happy with those results you are going to have incredible nutrient value, and an excellent seed better to work with next spring.
I think I’d buy that
Hi mike your ground looks healthy. The Harrow looks to be doing a good job!
Everything's getting bigger and faster. I'm thinking if your happy it must be a good piece of equipment. Not to mention you didn't rip it in half during the stuck.
That’s a hell of a machine. Does a great job!
I understand the challenges with phone recording; I have seen a few people get a gimbel that would help with phone setup to record. The disk harrow is interesting, and it is also fascinating that you need to break the stubble stands to prevent next year's yields; I watch Cole the Cornstar, and he has been experimenting with doing soil turnover to see how that process affects his yields. By sheer accident, they cleaned up waterways and found that doing that resulted in significantly higher crop yields than doing zero till.
I like that! Your chopping/breaking straw and incorporating some topsoil to allow better decomposition. Darkening the surface slightly to increase melt rate and warming and not going deep. Very interested indeed! A more neutral view compared to a company marketing video. Good info, Thanks Mike!
Yeah it looks like an interesting 'best of both worlds' between no-till and conventional
Great video Mike
I was going to demo one here 2 years ago but they couldn't get it here in time...a few flamn rentals have them for rent..but my local flaman dealer won't get one
Looks to me that you get yourself a pretty damn good vertical tillage tool ! The job looks very very good !
4:50-5:10 is an awesome view!!!
Some fantastic close ups great video thank you
Mike has found a new piece of equipment to buy.
Mike you should see if you could try out a Kelly disc chain on the stubble
Hi Mike, This Disc Harrow form Schulte we have had on our farm now for 5 seasons. Its amazing and the need for the soil is super. We try to follow the combines with it and have done every acre in the fall Except last year and this year where we have a few acres left because snow came easrly. The acres not done last year we finished infront of the air seeder this yeare and the crop performed as well as the fall acres done. We think that any moisture that falls is captured by the lose soil more than just behind a heavy harrow. We don't farm that far from you and our fields are of similar terrain. For the machine having over 50,000 A on it there is not too significant wear We have stones !
Even though I feel as though I understand the science behind no till farming and it’s benefits to soil health and yet to me something like this seems a heck of bridge between no till and full till
We have a summers disk harrow bought mainly for aerating soil out that's excessively wet fir seeding.
Looks great Mike!
It's doing a good job!
Finally you have the Mercedes of combines, buy it straight away and keep the old 740 as a backup, you know the Millenial Farmer drives a newer 780 and an other old 8770 JD as back up and he only runs 2500 acres without double crops. Buy it and be happy 🤩👍🙋♂️
Have you used a Kelly tillage systems. They use a chain system that would probably work better in the hills.
Great vid Mike.
Like that thing.
Disk blades are very similar to what’s on a Salford VT rig. Vertical tillage.
Looks like it’s doing a good job, in the spring can you get a video of the drill going through there
I figured mikes ocd would have kicked in by now and had the tractor washed I know how he likes to keep everything clean
Black rims look kinda cool though 😅
Hey Mike when are you gonna get a 715 quad track would love to see how one pulls your air carts in the spring.
Interesting kit
looks like that is good combo machine. I was surprised you guys harrow up north vs using a vertical till machine to help get better incorporation.
It would have been interesting to see how that worked the ground running a 50% overlap.
That’s some high speed low drag tillage!
Letter rip tater chip!
Nice job
Thanx for the video
Individual torsion discs look to work nicely, but yeah, needs smaller sections or more flex in the frame.
Or, Mike gets flatter ground. (Yeah yeah... I know)
A kelly chain would work wonders on your land
I am interested in trying one for our farm, Mike I’m wondering if you can angle those disks any or apply more or less pressure if needed?
Mike, you should of brought Ernie out. Big red can do the job.😂😂😂
What a harrowing experience
-40 usually break s the compaction
Do you ever have a problem with soil compaction?
What about the mower Mike? Are we going to see it work in the cattails?
So what happens when the disks hit a deadhead rock at 10 MPH ?
Mike, how deep are you running those disk?
Could it go a little bit deeper to toss it more.
By the way, the tractor in the disk cleaned up
Those discs will go into the ground up to around 2 inches in condition you see in the video.
it would be interesting to see what it does in corn
Here in Argentina no-till is the rule. You hear all the "specialists" talking about not disturbing the soil, avoid tillage to avoid erosion, etc. This train of thought has dominated our system for over 20 years now. But watching on YT the videos of USA, you guys do exactly the opposite! So I would like to understand from your side why tillage is so frequent and if the cost of fuel and the need for tillage tools does not affect your bottom line. Thanks!
I often wonder that too. On the surface it seems yields with tillage are higher in the US but Im not sure. I read recently that the freeze thaw cycle helps break up compaction in Canadian soil.
I am a non farmer looking to start a hobby farm and do no till. What practices do you use in Argentina that are beneficial?
@@jb-vz4wb no till, service crops are starting to be a thing now. But i'm not trying to say that this is wrong, US has a large farming operation and it works! Just pointing different practices
Morning
that tractor is hauling ass
Looks to me like the discs need to be doing more.
That was my thought exactly, the amount of harrowing looks a bit patchy to me.
Have you tested the väderstadt x cut?
Carrier XT?
Is that the answer? It doesn’t look like the little disc are penetrating much. Degelman pro till and salford seems to have caught on here last few years for high speed tillage.
U should probably lift that unit up all together when doing those peak hills.... Top soil tends to blow away easier on peaks
Don't have to worry about thst up there
What about a Salford mike? Harrow looks pretty good
Mike magnifique tracteur et le dechomer et bien équipés et bien intéressante 😮😅😊😂
English
when are u gonna try the LSW tires ??
How does it work on the combine clogs😅??
That Harrow was moving. What is the recommended operating speeds for that unit? I don’t see much like that in Southeast Michigan. Thanks for the Videos, Mike.
Schulte recommends 10-12 mph on this unit. Seems to be the best speed to help chop, throw and incorporate.
How fast was he going
How come you decided to discharrow instead of protill
where are the birds that ty[pically flock after one of these disk harrows?
You should think about getting a Salford 5200 demo.
Couldn't pro till be set to do same effect very slightly in the ground
How fast is he able to run?
Oi 🇧🇷🚜🤠
To bad you can't put in drainage tile. Would be a awesome field
Get a Salford 5200
Mike needs a GoPro to put on implements. Close up ride alongs lol
I am guessing we won’t be seeing you hang off the end of this piece of equipment since if that did happen video most likely not allowed to be posted by Schulte 😂🤣
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Oh I can hear all the rocks… can’t imagine how fast you wear blades out
We have seen up to an inch of wear on the blades with 40,000 acres, in more rocks than this in northern MB. I've been very impressed with the wear as well as minimal chipping on these discs.
@@jaredpoulsen9839 around my area we can wear out a disk in 1k/disk ft but we have sandier soil
Mike can't you somehow block all those stupid scammers
Oh I try! But I can only report or remove them individually... 🫣😆
@@mikemitchell2554 well thanks for your effort I try to report all of em to but gosh their annoying
He’s flying faster than 10 MPH?
Schulte would have been crazy not to ok this--real interesting video, looks like a nice piece of equipment. Enjoyed this one.
The issue is it’s a prototype unit…if it was a production model I’m sure they wouldn’t have hesitated.
Doesn't look like that does very much. Seems like a tandem disc would do a better job incorporating the stubble and soil.
PUT QUADS ON THAT THING..........😂😂
But Mike, that's considered a " natural gas " smell.
They’ve had a disc harrow out for a little while now what’s different about this one that’s it’s a prototype
Schulte has added shanks with rubber torsions now over the spring shanks from the previous model.
wish they made that in a 6-8ft width for a small tractor with 40+ hp
This to me is aching to brushing a dog’s hair. A deeper and heavier cut would seem to be more productive, no?
I do like that thing but they are pricey!
Googled it, wow you're right
can you not operate directly across drilling direction Mike...could be even more effective?
And way way more bumpy, tough on the gear too. I would angle the discs a bit more if possible, too much straw still standing up.
Mike is rignt is does create nutions for following crop, but straw also take up N to gett transformed into mew nutions.
@@Stigsens1 I agree I think he would have been better off using a offset disc or even a chisel plow or a digger of some kind they would incorporate the straw better and break up any hard pan or compaction he might have from the big equipment going across the fields
You can’t harrow with the rows because then the straw doesn’t get spread out evenly across the entire field
Watching this was a harrowing experience 😂😂😂👨🌾👨🌾🚜🚜
Looks like it would be awesome in bean stubble. The neighbors would hate you if you used it on cornstalks
to many bearings for that little of tillage try a kelly diamond harrow with heavy chains or a diamond disk if that's all your needing to do
Do you have any Salford dealers in the area...consider an I-2200 vertical tillage rig. They make them up to 50ft.. guys here on Ontario use them to chop/incorporate wheat, soy, corn stubble.. would be just the ticket for what you are trying to do.
You need a shirt mic, So we can hear you all the time.
need to get a rock rake and picker on the lentil ground. bet with a rock crusher you be able to pave your yard with a couple inches of stone
Put your protill at half inch
Mikey! Why the heck aren't you riding that cultivator?
Or did you just not film it, cos that's the Mike I know & love, keep on keeping on.
That covering country fast
👋😊
If i look at your stuff compared to here in Germany you literally got no straw. There are some videos with Fendt 1050s with Krone balers which show how much straw we have
What's the use of that harrow? Barely do anything...
they copied those waffle discs from vaddy. meant for ultra shallow cultivation.
you really need to make a longer video 20 minutes of a harrow not near enough
Disappointed that Mike isnt climbing on the harrows frame while driving 😅😂
Was watching Larsons farm tillage an thier trying out a new toy ..possible a lot more aggresive
That´s one ineffective disc harrow.
