Is the breakthrough here that all of the notes of the C Major scale work when you play them over a diatonic C Major chord progression? Or is it that if you play a C Major scale in different position around the neck, you are playing a mode of C Major? Is there a particular feeling you get from playing D Dorian or G Mixolydian over this progression that feels different to you? If yes, when do you decide that feeling is appropriate?
