Building the stud wall - Something a little bit different this week!
I need to get this wall done so that I can create some storage to allow me to remove the coaching sidings in preparation for the lower level fiddle yard.
You will see I had a few little mishaps along the way but managed to keep everything secret from the wife (unless she watches this!!). I think it’s turned out not too bad…
My only concern is whether I can get the ladders back out of the stairwell door now that there is a solid wall - I’m pretty sure I levered them in over the opening - we’ll soon see!!
Thanks, as alwaysfor watching, Andy

Nicely done, love the shelving, you can fill that up with locomotives,no problem
Thank you, it’ll be nice to get some locos out of their boxes! 👍
What a great improvement! Well worth the effort and misery of painting! Chris
Cheers Chris 👍
Well done. A really good improvement to your train room.
Regards… Steve 👍
Cheers Steve 👍
A really great job Andy. You can never have too much storage. Coincidence that you had a power cut at the same time you were wiring on the sockets 😱 All the best Brian
Thanks Brian. Nothing to do with me guv, honest!! Cheers, Andy
That's a great improvement. 👍
Cheers 👍
What a great job you did. Nice one. Hope you better half dose watch the video. She seems the carpet accident.
Thanks very much 👍
Looks a great space and really jealous of the units and the work area you have. Stairwells… always a lot higher and more awkward than you think!
Thanks. I was tempted at first to have a bigger base board but pleased I went for the units instead 👍
Scim the worktop with a router and then put a worktop end cap on ( alloy ) ,, that wall looks very impressive ...👍👍
Thank you. Yeah, I’ve been looking at those end plates. 👍
I’m not a smoke alarm expert, but I think you should consider a smoke alarm in the stairwell and a second one in the main area.
Great job, and a fantastic layout. Keep up the good work.
Bill.
Good point. Thanks Bill. 👍
Always good to do something different, makes going back to the layout more enjoyable. Still very green for your space
Stay well, and thx for sharing
Thanks Brian! Take care, Andy 👍
Hello, Looks like a super improvement to the layout room. That scaffolding looked a bit rickety to me, glad it worked out and no one hurt lol.
Thank you 👍
Great job, must be really rewarding to see the plan come together. Reminded me that a year ago I was still building stud walls in a garage before the railway construction could begin.
Thanks. Yeah, pretty pleased with it. I’m enjoying your channel. Great that you had chance to talk to Charlie Bishop 👍
O my Andy, love the ladder work im so proud, thats something we used to do back in the day😂😂😂
Haha. Thanks Nick! 😄
Looks brilliant well done. Just one idea if you haven’t sorted the worktop already - you can buy metal worktop ends which also have a bit of a lip on the top of them - that might just hide the damage without you needing to cut the worktop down further. Cheers Ian.
Thank Ian. I’ve been looking at those today! Can pick one up for about £8. Would probably give that edge more protection 👍
Nice and cosy with that wall in place. I like your cabinet, but if it was painted white, it would allow a better view of the locomotives. I see you still have all your fingers, no worries there then. All the best
Ha, thanks. Painting it white is a great idea. Pine probably looked good 20 years ago! 👍
@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt No criticism but a white background will help. Primer first
Totally agree, and so does the other half! 👍
Hope you have some fire extinguishers installed in there.
Great point. Definitely need one 👍
That looks brilliant. It’s amazing what you can achieve if you have the right tools for the job.
I was wondering - can you give me a quote for a loft conversion? 😜 LOL.
Thanks. Ha, that’s definitely beyond my capabilities!! 😂
That new wall looks great. A small section of pegboard in a matching color could help with storing of small hand tools in a ready and accountable manner. Again, its looking great though the stair side of the wall might need a little more lighting.
Thanks. Yeah, I’m think a light at the top of the stairs. Pegboard a great idea 👍
Very good...have you included Internet RJ45 cable... A spot of Copydex will hide the carpet tear...I've a family of carpet fitters, including myself, but I preferred life as a Sparky. A tip with your painting...emulsion is easy just don't try and spread the paint out too much and work in a squared area.
Wood cut damage...place a piece of timber underneath and fill the gap with PVA.
Thanks very much for the advice. I’ll try that 👍
Beer fridge in that wasted space.👍
Now you’re talking! 👍
Looks blinding 👍🏻
Thanks! 👍
Why do you want a door? if you don't have one the smoke alarm can go back where it was. When you trim the work top with a circular saw put masking tape where the cut is going to be as this will stop it chipping the edge or turn the work top up side down to cut it.
Hi. Thanks for the worktop tip. I just think a door will keep the cold from the stairwell out 👍
Cabinet looks great and that was a pretty good job, did you really insulate it? An internal wall?
Thanks. Yep, I did! 👍
@@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt looks great 👍 does it make a difference with drafts now from the entrance ?
@_RandomPea I’m hoping when I get the door on it will. You can still feel the cold from the stairwell at the minute 👍
