This is a awesome video, looking good and very vibrant, keep it up bud. And thank you for the information.
Excellent video Steve. Wish I would have seen it a year ago. Hence why ive been gone. Battling green hair algae. I ended up starting all over again with a brand new tank. Your pup has grown so big too. Thank man
hey Wil great to see you! that hair algae is bad news. if this didn't work i would have started all over. nothing else worked. this took care of everything in a week. it breaks down the cell walls of the GHA.
Nice video,
Your tank looks great.
Thanks for sharing! Hadn't heard of this. I still don't have my tank repaired and built but love soaking up some knowledge.

Thank you thank you so much for this information now I have to order my bottle so I can fix my tanks 😁
Best video ! Direct ! And to the point thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Nice thanks👍
Hey Steve. Great info man! I had a really bad algae issue in my 35 gallon. Last week I transfered all my rock and filter media to a 50 gallon with new sand. . I scrubbed the rock best I could while keeping the rock wet. I have one small patch of algae on a rock. My question is can I hit it with the peroxide even though I just transfered? Do you think it will hurt anything or should I let the tank settle for a couple weeks before I do it. Thanks for the great info
you're doing everything right. I didn't scrub the rock and the algae all went away.
I gotta try this
Thanks for the help
Happy to help
Hi from the uk!
I'm hoping to nip out and buy a bottle today, I've listened to your dosing times and amounts I will be doing the same obviously adjusting dosage to my size tank. Did you (if running one) switch your protein skimmer off? I'm assuming yes if so how long please? Thanks for doing the video should sort lots of my problems out. Many thanks.
yes, turn off the skimmer
Great video. Should have my hydrogen peroxide Monday. Can't wait to try this. Dosed Nopox, didn't work. Tried fluconazole, Didn't work. Tried 3 days of darkness, didn't work....I hope this does the job on the GHA. Do you still dose 1 time a week to keep the Green hair in check?
nothing worked for me at all until the peroxide. i no longer dose it. after a week it was all gone. dose with all pumps off. i dosed directly on the problem areas and turned pumps on 5 minutes later. daily for a week.
Thank you a bunch!!
You bet!
Hi there. Trying this out right now. Read through some of the comments and saw that you had initially dosed for about 1.5 weeks daily. Did you do any water changes in between? If not when did you do the water change? Thanks. 🤞
Hi, I just did the weekly water change of 10% as I always have. Nothing special.
Wonder how dino would do against 12% solution?
Thanks for sharing, dosing 1ml for 10galloon? Only 1 times per week? I have sps and lps coral, its not effected?
yes, I did it every other day for a week. my corals closed a bit but were all fine.
Hey will this work on brown algae? Great video thanks
haven't tried but i heard it does
"...looked like my live rock was wearing wigs..." 😂 I just can't...lolol.
it's true....it was bad!
Thanks for your video, how much i have to put in 75 gallons ?do I need to turn off Skimmer, thanks a lot
yes I turned mine off for a few days.
Great Info! Trying the hydrogen peroxide today. Many thanks!
it's the only thing that worked and I tried everything and I mean everything
Hi Steve I just installed an algae scrubber to combat this problem..its working but taking too long if I use hydrogen proxite will this kill the algae scrubber growth?
What I meant to say is it ok to use while my scrubber is running and working or will the hydrogen also kill the good work of the scrubber growth?
you can try it. i have never had an algae scrubber but i'm assuming it would hinder some of that growth yes. hydrogen peroxide breaks down the cell walls of green algae.
the hydrogen peroxide I have is 29% so what do you recommend for 150 gal ?
I would cut it in half so if i'm doing 1ml per 10 gallons with 12%, you would do 1ml with a syringe in the water for every 20 gallons. if you go over by a ml or 2 it's ok. so you would do 8mls. my tank was so bad the green hair algae was long. i turned off all power heads and pumps and dosed direct to the hair algae. after 10 minutes i turned the pumps back on. after 2 weeks i never had hair algae again. the corals didn't like it too much but they were fine after a week.
Hi have you any type of Coral in your tank Steve
He answered this in the video...yes he does
I have a question . Did you remove any bio media or machanical filtration in case it kills the good bacteria ?
the sand and rock are my bio filters and I didn't remove them
@@ROTTERtube Thanks Mate 👍🏽
How much should I add for a 55 gallon tank with a freedom 100 sump?
hi, just follow what i said in the video. it doesn't have to be perfect. turn off all pumps when you dose. when you're done leave them off a few minutes then turn on again
I have one clown fish if he died I would be upset. So I really appreciate your video . I do have questions
Will it hurt inverts?thanks in advance!
no, they may close up a bit. mine did for a week. no harm to them.
how long does it take before you started to see results ?
1 week
How often should i feed my 75gal with 4 small fish
i feed all my guys, entire tank every other day, once every other day.
I just got the 12% one, dosed once and I can already see some of the hair algae turning white! I have a 36 gallon, do I need to dose it everyday or once a week until it's gone?
I dosed mine everyday for a week and it went away permanently
@@ROTTERtube Should I keep doing it? My urchin doesn't seem to like it at all. Yesterday and today when I put some in, it drops anything its carrying and then drops to the sand completely. I'm going to stop for now, and hope that the algae doesn't come back. It did get most of it away though which is amazing, I had so much all covering the rocks, it was terrible! There is something else that doesn't seem to be affected by the peroxide though, some kind of algae. I wish I could send pictures on here, maybe you would know what it is. It looks like its almost plant-like, very fine but not like hair algae. Not sure what it is but its growing too and I put the peroxide directly on it with a syringe and no affect. Is there anyway I can send a picture of it to you?
So am I able to use equate hydrogen peroxide topical solution 3% it doesn’t say food grade
Should be fine. I've always used food grade.
Would this be safe for Anemones? I hear you tell its okay for Coral(s). T-Y
I'm not sure on anemonies
What if i want anonoemes in my tank is this ok to put with them
I wouldn't do it, just in case. I'm not sure to be honest.
did you do this on a daily basis, if not what was your schedule, when it was gone did you do a maint dosage, thanks
yes daily for 1.5 weeks. i turned off all pumps and dosed right on top of the algae. it just melted away. no issues ever again. nothing else worked.
@@ROTTERtube Sorry for a stupid question - 1.5 weeks - you mean 10 days?
So you dosed 12ml every day? For 10 days?
I am not having much success with this technique and need help/advice from you. Is it possible it is not hair algae that I am having the issue with?
could be possible. if it is GHA turn off all pumps and everything and dose right on top of the area. the peroxide will melt the GHA.
@@ROTTERtube I will give it a try and let you know, thank you:)
what about snails tolerating? I am probably down to one Tiger conch
my snails were fine. Corals were a little upset but were fine. Too much will probably affect snails and inverts.
Hi! I tried this last week and it worked, GHA is gone from the rocks. But.. regarding my LFS this dropped my KH value to 5 and my hermit crab and cleaner shrimp died a few days later. Do you know if this is the cause of the peroxide?
Glad it worked...I never had an issue with my inverts. Everyone was fine.
What about my corals will it affect them?
mine closed up a bit for a week and that's the extent of it
What if you have soft coral? Fingerling
I had coral in here and they were fine. Never had your type of coral but I had hammers, star polyps, an anemone, all fine.
Just curious how often you add the hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the algae. Just once, daily till gone, once a week till gone? Thanks
I did it every day for a week then every other day the next week
Hi and did you do the same 3ml for 1p gallons every day fkr the week. So basically for my 200 gallon 50 ml per day for a week?
How many times a week should I use the hydrogen peroxide?
Hi, I did it ever other day for a week....33% peroxide concentration.
Hi Steve. I tried the hydrogen peroxide. In tank 12% as you suggested. No result. Took out some of the live rock and treated it separately. Still no result. Not sure if i am doing anything wrong. The dosing was 3 ml per 10 gallons. When i dosed the rock separately I used 6 ml per gallon. The algae is like short spiky hair sprouting straight up from the live rock. Suggestions welcome.
I used 33% so maybe that’s why. I turned off the pumps so the water was completely still and used a syringe to dose right on top of the algae. Try tripling the dosage since you’re using 12%
@@ROTTERtube Thank you for your response Steve. I took out one of the rocks separately and dosed by increasing 6 times. Your video using 12% had suggested 3 times. The algae is spiky hair like, like short cropped grass on the rocks. Not long or wavy. Cannot eccentric pull away by hand. It’s live rock so don’t know if that matters. Thanks again mate.
Is there any effects on cuc?
nope
Give my first Dosing three days ago is it safe to do another dosing today
yes. actually, I did it daily for one week.
Will it help getting rid of regular algae on glass?
He answered this in the video...yes it helps rid the glass of algae
yes
Hi will this hurt euphylia corals ?
no
Do I remove my carbon when dosing?
yes
So I tried it with my water change and woke up this morning and my fireshrimp was dead and my anemone looks like he’s on his way out. Is this common?
How much did you add? All my guys were fine.
Hi Steve, is the dose of HYDROGEN PEROXIDE daily per 1 week? thank you
I did it every day. I did find that what remains in the water column...a very little....really does help to kill it. turn off your protein skimmer while you do this for the week.
@@ROTTERtube thanks for your reply
does this damage marco/cheato algae in my refugium?
I used once and it didn't affect my cheto, but the culerpa went sexual and i had to throw it all away..
Roxanne Martin nope. I think I typed it does not hurt it.....I hope I didn’t forget to type it. I’ll have to rewatch.
Steve ever try uv sterilizer?
no
I’m rubbish a maths, I have the 12% and you said to triple the dose. How much should I dose if I have 90 gallons please?
just use the same as I did to start out with, in the 12% version since your tank is smaller and you are using 12%...weaker.
Doesn’t hurt your corals? Where are they? I don’t see any corals
they're in there. my coral closed up a little for a week then opened up no problem.
hello. will it hurt a candy cane coral?
never had one of those
It actually works took 4 days for my coral to recover but my cleaner shrimp died 😔
Funny thing is I came to this video to learn how to grow it to feed some parrotfish😂
Will anemones be safe?
I had no issue with mine. It closed up a bit, like all the other coral, but it was fine after half a day. use at your own risk.
Will it kill copepods?
it didn’t kill mine
Will it kill the fish ?
no
I've been thru 2 quarts in nearly 2 months and I still have GHA like crazy... Not working for me
that's very very strange! what % are you using? did you turn off all pumps and dose right on top of the GHA? It should be melting away...fizzing away before your eyes!
@@ROTTERtube I bought the stuff after seeing your 1st video from your Amazon link. the 12%.. same stuff... no I did not turn off my pumps.. perhaps this is the problem! should I be turning off my skimmer also? Thanks man! Glad to see you getting back on top with your spirit again bro! Its grate to see people make it thru tough times and come out brighter than before! Been rootin for rotter over here!
thanks dude! yes, turn off all pumps for 10-15 minutes and once done dosing on top of the algae itself, leave them off for about 10 minutes so the algae fizzles away. yes, turn off protein skimmer as well. i had mine off for a week. good luck dude.
Does it have to be 12%
at least. i used 30% when it was for sale but amazon limits to 12% only now
So much debate on h202 dosing in the DT
Worked perfect for me and it never came back.
Will the hydrogen peroxide kill off the good bacteria
no
@@ROTTERtube thankyou
Will 3% work?
It should, since 33% worked, but you may have to add more. I never used 3% but I would imagine if you turned off all pumps and flow and put it right over the algae it would work.
Do you still believe in this product? Will it hurt corals over time ?
yes, it's the only thing that worked for me. after a week you shouldn't need to use it anymore....I never have and it stayed gone.
Will it kill anemone?
i didn't have anemone at the time but my brother did and it didn't kill it. coral will close up for a bit. all mine did. they were fine
Thanks man for the info
It works on algae that's for Sure. Keep in mind, certain corals don't like this solution. In my experience softies were most effected. Most corals close for days in the process. However after recovery, they look better than ever. I'm assuming their getting a facelift during the treatment (debridement).
when you say soft corals do you mean like mushroom corals and zoas??
After having a reef tank for 12 years, this may work and it might not.
Algae is a problem for anyone trying to maintain an aquarium. You’ll have to find what works best for your tank. Plain and simple
true. this worked for after I tried EVERYTHING. the algae never came back.
@@ROTTERtube I’m sure after you figured out to get rid of it, you’ve taken preventive steps after you got rid of it to keep from coming back. That’s the one thing a lot of reefers don’t do
Or buy the lawnmower blenny
had one.....he did nothing
i did that nothing happened but it kill 90% of my fish
you added too much or it was another issue
@@ROTTERtube I measured it exactly and all of my fish die and the only thing that survived was my crabs and sea urchins
For anyone watching, this should not be done with inverts. My shrimp died after just 1 dose. Maybe just fish and corals are ok but not shrimp!😢😢
my shrimp were fine. you used too much. Just a little bit. like a cap full for 125 gallons.
@@ROTTERtube every how often?
