Great tutorial! I noticed that when my left leg is in the back, I get a pinching in my hip during the internal rotation, and my body won’t square to the front leg. Is this something that can improve over time, or does the shin boxes not address impingements?
Glad you like it. Yes, that is something that can often improve for people. That said, sometimes you have to find another high payoff drill that addresses the punching and then use it right before your shinbox practice. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Taylor, Excellent tutorial! Appreciate the finer points of execution and explaining the entry points. If I may add a comment from my experience doing shin box switches as part of your hip mobility program: I could do the "full version" pretty well from the get-go with my challenge being IR on left leg. As I'd do the work, daily, and and many repetitions, I noticed that a prior, nagging neck issue was getting worse. "Neck" as in C7-T1. low neck high thoracic. What I realized is that I was holding my gaze on a fixed position in front of me and rotating everything below my neck. When I realized this, I then took my gaze and head along with my torso and hips, which eased the pain immediately. It took a few weeks to resolve completely, but I am sure this faulty technique was a big part of the problem. Keep up the good work! You are healing the health of our country one person at a time!
Hey! Glad you like it. The issue you’re talking about is not necessarily a technique flaw. It’s an issue that is specific to your history. Some people would have no issue separating head from body during the movement. Glad you figured out how to modify it for your body.
I so needed to see this. Now I have a real place to start to make this practice work for me and my previous really old injury. I was going through the motions before but have a better understanding of how to start and progress. Thank You Taylor!
