I’ve made this cheesecake 4 times in the last month and a half, including for my mother in law for Mother’s Day. It has been a huge hit every time and turned out perfectly each time! I had never made a cheesecake before making another of your cheesecake recipes, a regular one, for St. Patrick’s Day this year, and then this chocolate one. Everybody loved both!! Thank you so much for giving me the courage and confidence to try to finally make them from scratch. As one of my husband’s two all-time favorite desserts, he’s very grateful to you as well! 🎉❤
My first time making a cheesecake, and I followed your recipe! It came out PERFECT! I was a little worried before baking, since my cheese batter had become very soft and almost runny. I read online it could be due to over mixing. Even though it stressed me a little, I just went along with it. After baking it stayed in the fridge overnight and it was firm and nice! My family was shocked to find out, that I made that beautiful cake from scratch. And it was delicious - So I salute you John. I told my mom that I would make another dessert from your channel for her birthday, you are simply THAT good. Thank you!
Made this cheesecake with my 5 year old granddaughter. We watched the video a couple days ago and she asked me to make it. What's a grandfather to do? We made it for New Year's. It turned out just incredible. I even bought a piping kit. Piping was a first for both of us, but it turned out not too bad. The cheesecake is RICH and awesome. It turned out great!!! The recipe will be going in the file for future use, but not too often unless I want to weight 400 pounds.
Definitely enjoyed this recipe with my hubby. I definitely recommend doing a baking bath to prevent cracking also running a knife immediately after you remove it for the oven so while chilling it doesn’t pull from the sides and crack 👍🏾👍🏾
Baked this and brought it to work for the staff. They loved it! Thank you for making it possible for me to improve moral at work during these difficult times.

Hey y'all I just made this cheesecake, and let me tell you: it is soooo amazing. I'm definitely more of an average baker, so mine looks a lot sloppier than his 😅 but oh my gosh it looks exactly like the picture! Considering I've never made cheesecake/cake before, it was surprisingly easy to make and really forgiving in terms of presentation. I haven't officially had a whole piece of it yet (made it for someone's bday and having it tonight) but some of the batter got stuck on the sides of the spring form pan (which I probably should have greased) and I tasted it and it tastes 1 million times better than store bought cheesecake. I piped "Happy Birthday" on top in white chocolate and I literally cannot believe that I made something so pretty! This recipe works and is amazing!!
@@noortk6342 before I put the ganache and whipped cream on I let it cool for a bit right after taking it out of the oven and then chilled it in the fridge for a couple hours (don't know exactly how many hours, just until it would not melt the ganache and whipped cream)

Just made this cake today. The fun part happens tomorrow after it sits in the fridge overnight. This is the first cheesecake I have ever made and was surprised that it did not crack. So far so good. Thanks for such an awesome and easy to follow recipe!
This is the exact same recipe I got out of a taste of home magazine in the '90s that I've been making for the last 30 years. It's everyone's favorite. I make it every thanksgiving and every Christmas. I adapted it for keto when I was doing keto and I also adapted an instant pot version.

Incredible! I wish I could share a picture of my cheesecake! Thank you, John, for making this amazing dessert look so easy that I was willing to give it a try!
The very first time I ever bakes, more than 6 years ago, I baked a nutella cheesecake and got SO many positive comments on it that since then i've been glued to the kitchen and baking non stop! Yours looks extra decadent and delicious :)
Cheesecake is one of my favorite things to both make and eat. Dark chocolate is my absolute favorite. John, this cheesecake is beautiful and I’m positive tastes incredible.
I am non-chocolate person (I heard those gasps! 😂). That being said, the people that I love make up for my lack of chocolate enthusiasm by their very own chocolate adoration. This chocolate cheese cake is now on the top of the list for Holiday Desserts (or anytime the family convenes for a gathering). Thank you, John (that is sincere, not sarcastic)! Cheers!

Very easy to make 😍 I made it for my niece's birthday 🎂🍰 and boy did she get chocolate cheesecake. I thought the 9" size might of been too small for what I wanted to do. But I was able to decorate with all my special decor pieces and had room to add her name. My favorite cheesecake is the regular cheesecake with fresh fruit 🍓🍒. I have to say this cheesecake recipe was on point, so flavorful 🤗. This is going in my recipe box.. ✍🏽Thank you for sharing. I truly appreciate you👐🏾

this is his best recipe yet!!!! The chocolate, ganage and everything taste so delicate and rich OMG, try it. You wont regrete it. I will by a book from John, when he gets one.
I started baking during quarantine and I decided to make this today. I had a lot of extra whipped cream, and the middle of the cake looked a little plain, so I added a swirl heart and it looks amazing!!
It's Christmas Eve 2023 and my chocolate cheesecake, I should say yours that I have made is in the oven. On the 30 minutes at 300 degrees part. The batter was delicious. Yes, I know, raw eggs but I've been eating the batter and such since I was a small boy. I'm 60 now and this is my first attempt at a cheesecake, of any type. I'm so excited. I will let you know if it is a triumph or not. Merry Christmas to you all and a special one to John Kannell and his entire family.
You should get a glass breaking sound effect for every time you slide a bowl across the counter out of view of the camera 😂 and just have no reaction and keep on going lol.
Thank you John! I made your amazing Chocolate Cheesecake today as mini versions. It was enough to make six 4 1/2 inch mini ones. My husband could not get enough!
I just made one last night and got really stressed over it because it was my first time making a baked cheesecake. I thought baked means the setting time is faster and I was wrong. So I attempted to remove it from the springform pan with only 15mins of chilling and it collapsed and my instinct said to put it back in the oven. Then I read somewhere at the bottom of the instructions not to panic because it will set once chilled. I was saved! Hahaha. The cake is so rich and super good! Thank you!
Oh my God, this cake is ridiculously delicious. Saw the recipe last weekend and made it yesterday, decorated it today and just had a piece. Holy crap, it's so good and was pretty easy to make. Thanks!
I was DYING with your, “mature audience” music and reaction to the whipped cream! You make life better!! 😂😂💕💕 I am making this tomorrow, just in time for my WW weigh-in on Saturday! 👍🏼🤪
Hi John. I love your channel. You have a great personality. I wanted to give you a tip that I've discovered over my years. If you cool the cheesecake in the oven, once it finishes baking; prop open the oven door and let it cool, this helps to keep the cake from cracking. Thank you for your video's.
I made this a week ago and it was a hit!!!!! First time making cheese cake! I did make my cream frosting a coffee flavor. My sister dislikes cheesecake but she lovedddd this one! Also very easy to follow, only hard part is waiting for the cake to chill.
if you are going to make this make it a day or 2 ahead. i made one and served it the same day. it wasn’t as good as when we ate it the next day. this is sooooooooo goood ❤
Tried my take on this yesterday. Skipped the whipped cream, added a little less sugar to the cream cheese but made a white chocolate ganache top. Love it, but it is very rich 😋
I am binge watching almost every recipe I haven’t viewed or make yet and loving it. I may make it a thing that I have to bake every cake of yours at least once in my lifetime
Preppy Kitchen .....I make LOTS of Cheesecake and have YET for one of my cakes to crack; not one of them! I believe “Dishin with Di” has found the answer to this problem. If you haven’t already; check out her video for cheesecake. She manages the “temperature” in a very specific way. I’ve followed her technique every time I make a cheesecake and like I said; I have NEVER experienced cracking, like never! Check it out! Love ya John!
I just love it I made it last week for my husband birthday it was just great but I used home made creamchees because it's was so expensive and I am just a new home baker so thank you for sharing
Throw back to when I was making My Neighbor Totoro cheesecake for my friend's birthday and didn't know I needed an electric mixer😂 thank god my neighbor had one
Omg, thank you, John. I did it!!! It's delicious. Tip, I did my cheese cakes mini, so I just eat a small piece, instead of a big slice. The frosting is amazing, I never tried wit heavy cream. The best!!!
If you like mint buy the mint ones. So hard to eat just one. I think those would make a great tasting base. I have 2 pkgs in my cupboard as I type this, lol
I made this last night. I haven't tasted it yet but I made a few modifications. First I took the centers out of the chocolate cookies (i used gluten-free ones). I don't know why I thought I was supposed to do that, but I did. I lightly sprayed the pan to ensure no sticking. I also omitted the flour. I read that it makes the cake more dense and rich, flour makes it more cake-like. I also cooked it in a water bath in the oven - my cake DID NOT CRACK. Not one bit. I am skipping the whipped cream because, well, I don't like whipped cream. I'm going to make the genache tonight for the topping. I followed all the other directions so I will see if my slightly altered version was worth it (this was a lot of work I thought!)
Don't be hard on yourself, cracked imperfection is only in the eyes of the beholder. This looks amazing! Thank you for another wonderful vid. Favorite pastry chef ever John!! Cheese cake cheers 🥂🥂
I'm going to make this with ruby chocolate. My husband is going to love it. I'm so excited. Trying to decide what liquid to use in place of coffee. Probably just milk.
Very interesting, I have been making cheesecakes for years and you show tricks that I learned only after making all those cheesecakes, but you also did things I've never seen before so that would be interesting to try, I made my first one with ganache just a few days ago so it's ironic you did that, I have never done a whipped cream on top though, I'm not sure that would go over well in my opinion, I like how you baked the crust first, I thought I was the only one who did that, one thing I have learned though is I cook the cheesecake at a lower temperature, that helps prevent burning and splitting on the top, I never go above 275, and usually only bake at 250
Hands down the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten! I’ve made it twice now and everyone LOVED it!!! Thank you so much! You are always my first resource when looking for a recipe.

I was DYING with your, “mature audience” music and reaction to the whipped cream! You make life better!! 😂😂💕💕
I am making this tomorrow, just in time for my WW weigh-in on Saturday! 👍🏼🤪
Hi John. I love your channel. You have a great personality. I wanted to give you a tip that I've discovered over my years. If you cool the cheesecake in the oven, once it finishes baking; prop open the oven door and let it cool, this helps to keep the cake from cracking. Thank you for your video's.
wow this looks absolutely amazing!! I love all of your recipes 😍
I made this a week ago and it was a hit!!!!! First time making cheese cake! I did make my cream frosting a coffee flavor. My sister dislikes cheesecake but she lovedddd this one! Also very easy to follow, only hard part is waiting for the cake to chill.
Omg 😂😂😂 one of your funniest videos yet! And delicious looking. Can’t wait to try it and “dismount” my cheesecake 🙈😂🐴
if you are going to make this make it a day or 2 ahead. i made one and served it the same day. it wasn’t as good as when we ate it the next day. this is sooooooooo goood ❤
Looks divine! Thanks for sharing 😋
P.S. I'm obsessed with your oven range, that forest green color is literally my favorite 😻
My husband I have made maybe 7 PrepU kit hen recipes (desserts and actual food) in the last two months and every single thing has been amazing!!!!!!
This video literally came on time. I was honestly just thinking about making a cheesecake since I noticed I had all the ingredients for one
Tried my take on this yesterday. Skipped the whipped cream, added a little less sugar to the cream cheese but made a white chocolate ganache top. Love it, but it is very rich 😋
Depression: **exists**
John Kanell: *I tHiNk NoT*
Ps: not trying to be disrespectful at all, I understand the impact and seriousness of depression :)
cringe
Isobel McConville yeah I won’t deny that :)
Totally his channel is a ray of sunshine 🌞
champ flowahbomb he’s so awesome!
I am binge watching almost every recipe I haven’t viewed or make yet and loving it. I may make it a thing that I have to bake every cake of yours at least once in my lifetime
Looks so elegant just like youuuuu ❤️❤️❤️
Oh thank you!
This was INCREDIBLE! i brought it to my group and they loved it and could not stop telling me how great it was. 😄
Definitely gonna make this!! This looks so great, as well as your other recipes!! ❤️
Me Too! I have a house full of coffee and chocolate FREAKS!! Maybe some berries??? 🤎💖🤎
I just love it I made it last week for my husband birthday it was just great but I used home made creamchees because it's was so expensive and I am just a new home baker so thank you for sharing
It's ok my friend the cheesecake looks phenomenal!💗🌸🍀
I LOVE THE WAY YOU EXPLAIN EACH STEP SO CLEARLY. YOU ARE MY FAVORITE ..!!!!
He makes me smile I don't know why, maybe it's because he's so cute
I like how you show us the “mistakes/problems/ failures” you face in the kitchen 😊
Throw back to when I was making My Neighbor Totoro cheesecake for my friend's birthday and didn't know I needed an electric mixer😂 thank god my neighbor had one
Do we add the chocolate ganache and the cream after we remove the cake from the oven or after it was cooled ? Thank you so much 💓
This is exactly what I wanted for my first cheesecake!!
John Kanell awakened the baker that was hiding inside me !
I love this channel !
made me love baking
I'm just curious though who eats all those cakes and bread? He makes those amazing desserts almost every day I'm so curious lol
Probably the same-type people who eat all of the things you make on your channel?🧐(Family, friends, neighbors....).
I know one thing for sure...they are very lucky 🙄
Neighbors or family, I guess even the staff that helps him recording the videos.
Probably his husband, kids, and neighbors!
Omg, thank you, John. I did it!!! It's delicious. Tip, I did my cheese cakes mini, so I just eat a small piece, instead of a big slice. The frosting is amazing, I never tried wit heavy cream. The best!!!
"You don't want a soggy bottom"
I don't know but this cracked me up! Lol
I cracked up just like the cheesecake 🤣
My husband asked me to made Chocolate Cheesecake yesterday is was so delicious anytime I bake I looks at his vdos, love his recipes 😋😍
An excuse to buy oreos, sounds good to me! 😂The cheesecake looks amazing!!!
John: * making the cheesecake part * this’ll be your last scrape down of the day
John: * scrapes down the whipped cream *
Me: *why you lyin?!?!?!*
Love your work! Please keep making these videos! My husband and I watch you all the time!
You’re killin me smalls!! 😭💕🍰
Heey is that from The Sandpit?
Omg I literally love him! Preppy kitchen always brightens our day!
Me during the day: 😕
Me, when I got the notification: 🥰💘
Don't be hard on yourself, cracked imperfection is only in the eyes of the beholder. This looks amazing! Thank you for another wonderful vid. Favorite pastry chef ever John!! Cheese cake cheers 🥂🥂
No one will ever be Choco-*LATE* to the party if they know you're serving this!
...sorry, I know they was *cheesy.*
I'm going to make this with ruby chocolate. My husband is going to love it. I'm so excited. Trying to decide what liquid to use in place of coffee. Probably just milk.
When your cheesecake cracked... 🥺 I felt your pain.
Wouldn't have had he put in the water he said was "optional" 🤣
I want to do it right away. for my colleague birthday, tomorrow 👍🏽Thank you 😍
Very interesting, I have been making cheesecakes for years and you show tricks that I learned only after making all those cheesecakes, but you also did things I've never seen before so that would be interesting to try, I made my first one with ganache just a few days ago so it's ironic you did that, I have never done a whipped cream on top though, I'm not sure that would go over well in my opinion, I like how you baked the crust first, I thought I was the only one who did that, one thing I have learned though is I cook the cheesecake at a lower temperature, that helps prevent burning and splitting on the top, I never go above 275, and usually only bake at 250
I agree with you on the temperature! I just made one at 225F and I baked it for about 2.5 hours. No water bath required and no cracks in the end!
