In The Ways Of The Ancients, She Found A Hope For The Future.
A small Maori village faces a crisis when the heir to the leadership of the Ngati Konohi dies at birth and is survived only by his twin sister, Pai (Academy Award® nominee* Keisha Castle-Hughes). Although disregarded by her grandfather and shunned by the people of her village, twelve-year-old Pai remains certain of her calling and trains herself in the ways and customs of her people. With remarkable grace and courage, Pai summons the strength to both challenge and embrace a thousand years of tradition in order to fulfill her destiny.

"No child left behind."
She’s so awesome, she’s also in the movie Boy
one of my favorite all time movies
as someone in hawai’i, our hawaiian studies teacher showed us this very movie. and i absolutely loved it. mahalo to everyone who has made this movie possible, it’s magnificent.
Crazy to think the actress who played Paikia didn’t know how to swim before production of the film.
*Paikea’s
She was really courageous to have said yes when there were so many diving and swimming scenes in this movie
really? you think the people doing the auditions would ask that instead of assuming
Best movie and a must see in middle school with homework right after. It’s so worth it!
This is such an amazing movie I can’t even describe how great it is with one UA-cam comment
this movie is so beautiful
I just got the book from the library and really enjoyed it. This part of the book when she dived down she was helped by dolphins to find the necklace.
NopRob4Rob me too
NopRob4Rob better!
Aha?! Dolphins are whales of sorts. So its telling they recognize and help the Whale Rider to be...
I'm reading the book in Māori. There's a spiritual connection with the language that isn't the same in English.
@@Tehui1974 cool. One day I'll get round to learning more Te Reo and it would be awesome to read such a book. I really enjoyed a book by Witi Ihimaera. I was interested in it since my wife is Māori and I am Pakeha, thinking about our kids www.goodreads.com/book/show/632248.Growing_Up_Maori
Everyone’s acting in this movie was stellar. I felt like I was watching a documentary! I felt the anguish and pain in every scene. I thank you for this, and for connecting us to our beginnings-- the oceans.
One my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies. ♥️♥️♥️
One of my favorite scenes ever!
I love this movie
Love this movie
Best movie ever
I’ll get it! No hesitation. 😅
The best part was when Rawiri showed his Mom the lobster she found. “She got this as well.” 🐋
Wonderful film,
well not really. I finally got the thing on blu ray from Australia and then shout came out with it. so First time on blu ray in the USA. can't say who has the better video quality.
Ive seen whale riders the never comes back up then the guy dives in the she comes back up calm
what deeper meaning does this have
lawfence spaghetti The girl’s grandfather is the village? chief, and he threw the necklace into the water for the boys, who were candidates for his successor, to retrieve. Obviously they couldn’t retrieve it and that’s one reason why he is depressed in this part of the movie. Pai is a girl so she’s not allowed to participate in the training even though she is of age, and it’s significant because she found it.
Also, the necklace, made from a whale’s tooth, is passed on from one chief to the next.
😢
bruh the camera quality on this is like -3.
