Bravo! Finally somebody with a dodge ram van made a video I can actually use and learn from. Kudo's to you man. I know how hard it is to get those stem things through the hole especially with no hair around it to feel your way around. Great video.
Thank you for this video! I was able to replace the switch quickly. If anyone is reading my comment I'd like to add some other information here that may be useful. My van is a 1998. If you are having an issue with your vents changing and air flow, before you put the panel back in, check the vacuum tube harness coming off the vent selector. It is about 9-10 inches long and can come unseated easily from where it connects to the main vacuum line loom. I believe mine was never connected properly from Dodge which lead to a host of problems that I could not solve until I replaced the switch, never figuring there would be a termination in the middle of the loom itself. Since reseating that connector not only do my vents work better, but, the engine runs better. Thanks again!
Thanks for the instructions. I need to replace the entire control unit as all controls are shot. I always pictured having to crawl under the dash. Now I think I can do it.
Suggest if you repair anything on a vehicle the first step should be to disconnect the negative terminal on your battery because if you touch metal to certain components you can cause permanent damage. Better safe than sorry. He got lucky this time.
Very helpful -- on my 2002 Dodge 1500 Cargo Van the middle speed setting for the blower hasn't worked for a few years, now I know why: has to be the switch. I had not a clue as to how to get at it until I saw this video -- Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have no heat going to the back of my van. It's a stream of cold air. The passenger side also has cold air when the heat is on. Would you know if this is an actuator issue ?
My issue was the blower only working on high, so yours could be the same or it could also be the blower motor relay under the hood. As for the lights, I haven't yet had to replace mine, but I'm pretty sure most auto parts stores stock those bulbs.
thank you bro i have a 2002 hyndai elentra i have to replace the blower switch to. it has went out before. I bet its the same problem you had with gunk and wearing down points. Just to give you an understanding of how much a repair shop would charge for this...793 dollars. I had them replace it when i was in a car accident. Stupid costs for such a simple repair huh! autozone rules btw
I had the same issue with my vehicle. I thought it was the blower motor and resistor, and to fix the problem: 1. Unplug the cable connected to the blower motor and the resistor. 2. Spray some electrical contact cleaner in the plugs shack it out. What I had found that in time the connectors get so corroded with dust they lose the connectivity or intermittent connection. Hope this Helps…
Sounds like something to do with the blend doors. Could be the little motor behind the glove compartment, or one of the plastic doors inside could have broken off.
#3 position only one that dont work on mine - odd thing tho - a/c will come on if in any of these: max, face cool, face and floor, (next 2 no) feet and defrost and defrost. I would point out they only do this if high humidity. Is that an automatic thing? Also weird heat come and goes...less and less and direction controller works but fan seems weak (still sounds full power tho) and inner flap thing used to make noise when switching directions now does not so I think my fresh air/heat mixer flap is stuck. I know theres good heat hiding in there because you can get it to come on but only for 10 seconds...maybe gunk in there and/or vaccuum loss.
OK ...switch was bad on this one ...but before you tear your dash apart check the blower motor resistor pack! They are a known problem on Dadge products. That comes out with 2 1/4" bolts. Older models it's on the firewall pasanger side ...newer ones under duck work passanger side foot well.
Wow great video. Thank you for sharing , I have a 99 van, I'm not getting #3 position, to work, and it has no power, so I'm assuming it's the switch great job!
BTW, the Blower Motor Resistor is IN the engine! On the A/C cover next to the Tranny fluid Dip stick... Haynes Manual has it wrong for the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 van!
I just bought a 2001 dodge dakota with some issues with the climate controls,, the knob that changes the climate to hot to cold is received... I'm thinking that the previous owner reversed some connectors maybe ?
I bought this switch from a parts store and replaced it and nothing changed so I walked right back in and returned it... Do you have a more detailed video or pictures of where the resistor is located in a 2000 1500 5.2 van?
em0rox I no longer drive this van, but the resistor is located on the left side (looking from under the hood) on the blower motor box. I caught a small clip of it @ 0:09 Once you remove the two small bolts you just pull the connector off of it. It has a coil or two in it, so you can easily see if one is broken. If not, the motor could be the issue. I'd check for broken wires near the motor, as cats and other small animals like to gnaw on them.
I have a 2001 Dodge 1500 conversion van and it has rear a/c however the blower for mine up front only works on 1,2,3, not 4. Can I follow your steps and it would fix mine? You said your video is not equipped for vans with rear air.. but mine does have the rear air but its the front air that wont blow on 4....and also do you have to charge the rear a/c if its not blowing cold in the back? I've already charged front but does it have a place to charge it in the back? thanks melissa
I have a 2003 Ram van and my blower control works on 1,2 & 4 position but nothing on #3. Is this the same issue you had? Also the lights don't work in mine, they are tiny little bulbs with 2 prongs on them, under the front face plate. Any ideas on replacing them? I also have rear A/C and heat but it's a separate control over by the lighter. thanks.
I also have an issue with direction control 2003 Dakota switch on far right, did you get your taken care of if so please let me know how it went, is it possible to purchase at auto parts store, thanks
Hello,I have the 98 dodge van wth the same setup as your old dodge, my problem is the fan works on low, med, high but only blows air out of the defroster would that be the same switch that would control that, Thanks Al
Unfortunately after replacing the resistor block, melted connector going to it and the switch on my '01 B1500 , I still have only one speed which is high. What else could it be?
I just called auto parts stores and the dealer. You cannot buy the switches individually. The only one you can buy is the one you replaced. You have to buy the whole climate control head if the others are bad.
I Want to change gear oil. differential for Dodge Dakota 97 4x4 5.2 Magum SLT. I saw a video Last night, can.t seem to find that video. Will somebody out there help me?

Thanks for posting this vid. The very first thing I did after purchasing my van was disconnecting the wire to that annoying buzzer lol.
Thanks for the instructions. I need to replace the entire control unit as all controls are shot. I always pictured having to crawl under the dash. Now I think I can do it.
Thanks! I used your video to help change out the secondary fan switch on my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Wagon, V8. Essentially the same steps. Very helpful.

Thanks. I just picked up a conversion van.
Great vid. Gave a nice audio detail procedure about the whole process.

Did the front AC stop working out of nowhere ?
Sounds like something to do with the blend doors. Could be the little motor behind the glove compartment, or one of the plastic doors inside could have broken off.
Oh man! my car is not a dodge but i get the idea now. Thankyou so much for posting this
Thanks so much, very helpful!

Thanks for the information
How did you test to see if you needed a new Switch or whether you might have needed the resistor on the blower box.
That’s what i needed to know! Thanx
Well done video

replacing that part will probably not solve your problem. you need to replace the blower fan resister.
very helpful! Thank you. My van has the same problem.

Hell yea thanks for the upload
I got a 93 dodge ram van with 318 V8. I need to change out heater core.i been searching for video but no one has any videos.
It's tough to make anything out because you're trying to hold the camera and do the job why don't you just have somebody hold the camera for you. 😎

Awesome
So how can you tell if it’s that part or the blower motor is out

Is the first position on the fan switch Off?As my AC runs all the time

Great video!
My front AC stopped working :/ back passenger still works weird
Thank you Great Job
I just called auto parts stores and the dealer. You cannot buy the switches individually. The only one you can buy is the one you replaced. You have to buy the whole climate control head if the others are bad.
I have not found where I can buy the vent selector switch by itself. If anyone knows where I can please let me know.
At a junkyard..I bought the whole assembly for $25
