This worked for a 2003 4.7L Ram 1500 - the two wires for the blower motor were as pictured in this video and I connected them to the replacement relay as shown. I did not have the heavy gauge blue wire for the trigger though, I used an orange wire CAV 14 and my blower is working in the start/run positions and no longer is using the ignition switch relay. Thanks for the video, much appreciated~
Best you tube video on this common problem; straight to the point no beating around the bush; those lengthy you tube videos that led you to no where dry me nuts.
Thank you! My blower motor hasn't worked in like 2 years. The ignition switch is causing my truck to not start, drain the battery and my blower motor is not working. Replacing the ignition switch just fixed it till the next morning and then my truck was dead again. replacing the ignition switch fixed my truck not starting but not my blower motor. I am sure my ignition switch just died again because of the overload from the blower motor and it drained my battery. I was wondering how to fix it by putting in a relay but no one had a video about putting a relay in. Thank you for putting this video up. It's a very common problem but no one really talks about it to much, mine just went out a few day's ago. I am hoping this will fix my problem of my truck not starting, draining the battery and blower motor. I am 100% sure this will fix it. I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9L Sport with 220,000 miles. I am gong to go fix my truck now and hope everything goes well. Thank you again!
Bro, I have the 2002 5.9 (non-diesel) and I the EXACT same issues, especially the startup and take the keys. I burned the same way you explained. For 2 freaking months my baby has been down or at half capacity. I will be rewiring the truck today the way you did it. Damn you answered so much in just a few minutes. I'm glad I ran into your video and will give you an update after the work is done. Thank you ! Thank you thank you
Fuuuuudge!!! Thank You! You know many FFF'n videos I've been through? To learn squat. Replaced every part, could've used them anyway, with nothing. Pissed wondering where next. Well you NAILED IT! I so appreciate it!
Thanks! This gives me more direction of where to look for a solution to my similar problems. Going to look at it and see if it could be the same issue. No start (hot wired a push button) No blower motor No speedometer No power windows …all failed at the same time
Thank you so much! I've been pulling what little hair I have out with this one. Even with a new fan resistor, I was getting a bit over 8v at the motor, not enough to make it spin. It's winter and the wife's truck can't be without heat. Lo and behold, I move the tilt on the steering column and now the fan is working again. Looks like it's time for the relay fix!
Check the condition of the connector to the blower as well. (Under the dash passenger side ) I later found my connector was melted and was causing a lot of resistance which i think contributed to my switch messing up
Getting ready to fix my 2004 Ram the same way had no issues until about a week ago blower motor stopped working the truck has 295,000 miles and I am surprised it lasted this long
Thanks for replying so fast; I do appreciate the info and will watch my profanity in the future. Love my old Dodge Cummins; just get really frustrated at how dodge designed the rest of truck; it’s hard not to vent when it’s 110 degrees and your ac blower motor decides it’s a good time to quite.
Brilliant fix. I noticed that the pinout on your dad's 3500 has 3, 10-gauge wires. The 2005 Ram 1500 I am trying to fix has the 2 big wires. Mine are Red and Blue at the top as opposed to the Brown and Green in the video. I'll bet the color changes has to do with Daimler/Chrysler days, the Germans use the Brown color for hot. So Red for me is battery and Blue is blower, I would assume those are also the services you cut and spliced. Your 3rd 10-gauge confuses me because it would mean you have 2 10-guage wires to and from your blower motor. In the absence of another big wire, I am thinking that the white in-line 3-way splice for me, should be the wire color that comes from the other side of the blower motor and resistor. Would that be correct?
The white wire, in my case, is a trigger wire. It is used to switch on the relay, which in turn closes the circuit between the top 2 big wires. You can choose any wire that is a key-on powered wire.
How long will this repair last? Are we talking about for ever a couple of months does this repair cause issues to the big beefy blue wire that we are tied into for the trigger?
my 96 2500 has the same problem-only its the blower, abs module and the power windows. Terminal 5 off the ignition switch. New relay going in tomorrow.
What exactly kind of relay switch am I supposed to look for? I need to go to the autos parts store and get one but is there different types of so what do I buy?
I am having the same problem with my 2001, replaced everything, still can't get blower to work through the switch, had to run a ghetto rig with aux switch one speed to the fan
I have the same issue, except sometimes the blower motor will run if the knob is turn to a setting with the truck shut off completely. Came out to a dead battery. Same problem?
Yeah, I’m having the same problem with mine. The blower motor stops and the windows won’t go up and down. If I tilt the steering wheel up and down or tap it, the blower motor starts and the windows will work. I’m going to try this method.
Hello, just happened to me, smell electric burnt odor and my blower stopped working. I going to check now for the issue as you described it, do you happen to have a part number for that relay?
I used this on a 04 ram 1500 that kept having blower motor problems and burning ignition switches. Fixed the issue but now the radio and wipers aren't working 🤷
Double check the plug on the ignition switch if it's seated all the way, and wires in the plug are good. Also, double-check connections on the connections to the clockspring. When you say the wipers arent working, do they constantly stay on?
Thanks for video. I have an 04 the wire colors are different and my relay says yellow is normally closed. I wired it up no blower. It would work before and go out frequently. Any ideas?
I have a 2004 dodge duly I was driving home and some smoke started coming out from behind the steering column. All of a sudden my ac blower fan stopped working. Could this be my same issue? And if so, do you have a part number from Amazon where I can order the relay?. Thanks in advance!. Great video!..👍
This could be it. Check the condition of the connectors to the fan in the passenger side footwell. I have later found that the connector to the fan goes bad and causes a lot of resistance in the ignition switch, its a cascading failure. As for a amazon part number I would just search for relay with pigtail, and buy one that is similar looking to mine
I have a 2004 and have replaced the switch multiple times. The last few times right before I lose blower motor I get a check engine light with codes P2608 P0542 P2609. I have made it to where the wires connect straight to switch. Do you feel this will fix my problem and if so is there a certain relay needed. Any help will be appreciated
@ukrainianbear05 do you think this will help my problem? I keep having to replace switches. I originally drilled out connector and had wire go straight to ignition switch. I Don't go to switch and bypass is do you think this will fight my problem?
Should be same they are the same cab, just a facelifted front end. Check the wires under the passenger side going to your fan if their not messed up and if the symptoms are the same open it up and take a look
The symptoms are the same I've changed the blower the resistor and still intermittent and only on high when it decides to work...I know the ignition switches are different for 2003 to 2008...but thought they should be similar I'll look for burnt wires..thank you for the reply.
@@TehArtfulDodger that was the exactly same issue, unfortunately at the time of fixing it there were not relays at the auto parts so I just replaced the ignition switch, the relay would be for another time soon, thanks for the video it save me money and time!!
@@TehArtfulDodger originally the problem was that it wouldn’t start with the ignition switch. Replaced the switch. Still no start. Replaced the neutral safety switch. Still no start. I have one fuck problem here Fuse as melted inside the fuse box my mistake now have installed new fuse box fan do not work i can feel some heat from the vent but blower do not blow air 😢 I have already change the resistor and blower motor before the fuse melted in there 🎉 i have test the blower motor wire up to the battery 🔋 and it work so i guess is the control fan switch possibly 😅 You tell me what is your guess on that one Maybe your sight can help 👋

Hey can you tell how you did yours with the wires being different colors and size I have a 04 as well.
For the two wires for the blower motor did you have to cut them from the pigtail in order to attach them to the relay?

Ignition switch most likely
