Learn How to paint realistic birds with oil paints with Suzanne Barrett Justis This video is perfect for beginner painters as well as advanced painters. Watch or paint along as we tackle the Carolina wren
.
We will start out with a light pencil sketch on an acrylic paint primed wood panel and then block the bird in with oil paints. After the bird is blocked in, I will begin to layer in the details with finer brush work.
This was painted in an alla prima, direct method of painting and was done in a little over an hour
Most of the brushes I am using are Rosemary and Co Brushes. Here it the link to the their website www.rosemaryandco.com?u=5711a7
as well as links to the actual brushes I was using
The Domed Eclipse Filbert I was using can be found on this link....it's a wonderful little brush, great for both application and blending.

the pure red sable in the 81 series was used for blending . I wanted to give you the link to this brush in case you are interested in getting one for yourself

I also used several of the Eclipse long Filberts of various sizes, you can find them here

and Ivory long filberts, my " work horse brush" I love them.

Sm_ macart 😊 thank you so much
Beautiful. Just like your amazing spirit. Thank you for sharing.🧡
wow...Alicia, thank you so much. I hope you found it helpful
Yes, i just started painting in november. And i usually use oils in landscapes because of bob ross. But i am intimidated by oils for anything else. I found your page about 3 wks ago, and i watched your videos all day. 1) because your paintings are AMAZING 2) your personality is very inviting, your tone is relaxing and reassuring. I am a suby for life. 🤩🧡
Oh wow...Alicia. Thank you. Seriously, that means so much. I’m glad to know you are painting and that my videos are helping you. If you have any questions I can help you with. Let me know.
@@aliciaselby596 ...oh, btw...your comment just absolutely made my day.....keep on painting!!!

Such wonderful details❣️beautiful work Suzanne❤️
Thanks Nina. I love the challenge of quick work. As a matter of fact, I’m painting another bird study today. 💕
Beautiful work.. i love how it pops off the canvas..
thanks Lori....this was painted on a wooden panel that was primed with acrylic paint...it is a smoother surface than canvas and lends for more detail right up front...that helps with the "pop" factor. ha ha ha....Have a great weekend friend.
👏👏❤️👍
thanks Saddam...so very much. I appreciate your support
Lovely, Thank you very much. Do you only teach oil paintings?
Star Mazaheri my first medium was water color. Than I went to acrylic and now I work in oil. It’s my preferred medium. In my studio, i only teach in oils but on youtube I may okay with some other mediums including sculpture.
Hey!! Awesome work! I am curious of your brush choices (filbert?? Any company choice?
Hi Preston and thanks for watching. Filberts and pointed rounds are my favorite type and Rosemary and Co are my brand of choice. I often leave links to my brushes in my description of the videos. Thanks for being here and I hope to see you again.
