Lovely! You can tell that you (the artist) has petted cats because she is aware of how the chin hairs are small and a bit stiffer than other fur/hair on cats. I love how you can both portray a very realistic painting but keep the painterly quality of brush strokes. Beautiful work Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much. Yes. I have had cats as a kid and am around them quite a bit. I’m glad you were able to pop in and watch and hope you consider subscribing to my channel.
I love to see how you build the layers of paint, the darker behind the back and the light hairs on the top. I would love to learn how to paint a cats face. I find drawing cats hard. lol
Hi Jeri! Yes, I generally lay down the darker color and build up to the lighter ones. I would love to have you join me in cartsville Ga at the Booth Art Museum for the two day workshop on painting pet portraits. You would learn a lot and have a ball
Hi Alastair, how have you been? I’m so glad to see you…you have been away for a bit. Thanks for watching ! Yes. I love the eyes best …always my favorite part of painting animals.
You say you used oil paint at top of head. Is this an oil painting or acrylic with just oil at top of head? Love your work. I just started doing pet portraits and now realize that more layers is what I need to remember.
Hi Elizabeth, I actually put green oil paint over the dry acrylic paint . It’s easier to keep soft edges that way. Layers is key to creating volume. ! You will get the hang of it. Thanks for watching and I hope you subscribe! Happy painting
I will definately try your flipping clue. I have trouble making my sides match because of the stroke being the opposite on the left side (I'm right handed too). My one side is always better. Will try this. Thanks.
Yes! Flipping your substrate is very helpful in allowing your hand to move in the manner that is best for you. Just remember to also flip your photo reference if you are using one as it can get confusing if you don’t. Happy painting and thanks again for your comments.
Hi , did you use any medium in the paint How does the paint flow so easily My wet on wet ends up with muddy colours .. and i cant get definition in my layers . Any help appreciated ❤ Great painting btw stunning

Beautiful job!
Question about sketching with vine charcoal, doesn’t it smudge into the paint?
Thanks Alice. Yes. It will smudge or blend into the paint, but I find the effect nice.
Never thought of that, I bet it is. Great bonus tip!
@@ascricco987 bingo!!!
Beautiful job! Did you change your signature?
For my smaller pieces, I often sign them this way.
